    While I fully understand your rationale for some of the changes you mention, I just want to say that this channel has been a respite for me as a Fujifilm owner, PRECISELY because you DON'T try to cover every other camera brand. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see another reviewer's raving video on a certain Fujifilm product, only to come to find out they've "changed" and "covered" every other brand known to man in the last year or two. Frankly, I believe you shoot Fuji personally based on your videos, not Fuji sometimes, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica, Panasonic, and Lord knows what other times. In other words, there's a modicum of integrity here that's lost on other channels trying to be all things to all people all the time.
    I agree about the "shorts" completely -- I've found them immensely distracting, and even worse - within the photog community many are just clips from regular video. Unfortunately, such is the age we live in now.
    I'll continue to subscribe here as long as you continue to cover Fuji as you have, and wish you the best in your diversifications.

    Was a Nikon faithful until I bought the XE1 when it first came out. Been a Fujifilm fan ever since (went from XE1 to XT20 to XH1, to XPro3, finally XT4 and XT5). Been following Pal2Tech for years. But wanted to spend my last years (am 77 yo) with Nikon so got rid of XT5 plus lenses and bought Nikon Zf a month ago. First impressions: very heavy (not good for senior photog like me), very complicated, not as easy as Fuji to operate in "retro" mode, AND autofocus is not really much better (if that!) than XT5 despite what TH-camrs claim about Fuji and Nikon (too much confirmation bias). But I want to thank you for all the help you gave me through my Fujifilm years and I hope you carry on regardless of what TH-cam analytics tell you. I was a teacher for more than 40 years and the student feedback and evaluations did not always reflect the positives that my audiences appreciated. More power to you. I will continue to watch (and LIKE) your videos from time to time. You have never wasted my time.

      @ardan64 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks for the info. I had an xt30ii and recently bought an XT5 so that lens could be shared. Was tempted to buy Nikon zf but seeing the screen tilt mechanism I liked XT5 better. Being 60+ I think I made a wise decision.

      I switched from Fujifilm because of their bad autofocus, but also because I sprained my wrist pretty badly just picking up my X-H2S/XF150-600 rig the wrong way (I'm a few years younger than you). I got an Olympus OM1 Mark II and it does so many things right, and things I wouldn't have thought possible (like a built in live graduated ND filter and star autofocus) and the lenses are so much better (in general), lighter, and cheaper.

    That's CRAZY how much your ad revenue has decreased in the past 2 years. I can imagine it's super frustrating given that your time and effort over that same time has likely INCREASED! Talk about diminishing returns. What you shared is a familiar story told by other creators. Seems like everyone is doing their best to get viewers off of the YT platform and into their course/website/patreon/etc. where the creator has WAY more control. I think it's a FANTASTIC idea for you to start branching out into different brands. You have been living in a Fuji bubble for so long, you are going to be SHOCKED by how good some of these other cameras are from Canon/Nikon/Sony/Leica/etc. Excited for the new stuff!

    Thanks for the update. The value for me from this channel is that you have practical tips for photography and camera operation. I own a Fuji camera and while I love the pictures, I’m not someone loyal to a brand. I would definitely also watch videos about interesting subjects, composition, events, travel or pay for courses tackling specific areas of photography. Other areas to consider are processing images and working with specific setups, like shooting the northern lights or shooting a family member’s professional portrait.

    Personally, I'm so happy about this! I have so many requests... As someone who learned to use my Fujifilm from scratch through this channel (THANK YOU - now I get to pursue my own TH-cam channel!), I'd love to keep learning from you and expanding my knowledge base. Here are some early requests... 1) More "video" focused content (how to plan aesthetic/cinematic shots, best camera settings for different types of footage, etc.). 2) Gimbal usage (how to optimally use a gimbal, and how to get better at handling, how to make it play nice with cameras, etc.) Thank you! Wishing you all the best as you move forward.

    @SummersSnaps วันที่ผ่านมา

    Some points you might find helpful;
    1) Understanding how and when people consume YT content can be helpful in delivering content. I tend to watch 1-2 YT videos over breakfast, if your livestream is some other time I won't watch it, if it is 1hr long and available after the fact.. I will unlikely watch it. There is a fine balance between content and video duration (I think you know this). Perhaps you can post process live streams into shorter versions, but understand that not many of us really care that much about hearing 2 photographers chit chat, they have to be EXTREMELY important figures for us to really tune into that content. Sorry but its true..
    2) For Fujifilm, I think you've always done well when exploring a very specific setting of the camera and bringing about clarity of that setting in under 10mins. Make sure that content is tagged properly and do it with other brands and I think you're onto a winner. You and John Peltier are fantastic for this kind of content.
    3) 400+ videos that mainly surround Fujifilm is a ridiculous and impressive feat, but it sounds like the well is getting dry and not sustainable long term (surprise surprse). I think what people would LIKE to see would be other brand comparison videos, so not just content based around certain tech settings in Canikony, but how do they COMPARE with Fujifilm. Unbias content will certainly bring in your viewers, how comfortable you are with putting Fuji down in certain areas where it lags behind the competition is of course going to be your major hurdle (likely). Fanbois exist, you may lose subscribers here, but if you are able to provide enough good content for Canikony users like you have for Fujifilm I think your membership will surely grow.
    4) Sponsors, zero problem. Just make sure you add a section in the timeline so we know where the sponsored message is coming up so we can jump over it if we choose, most of us do and I know I get annoyed having to guess when the plug is done.
    5) Not every video has to be a masterpiece. YT does reward frequency videos, get personal, share with us something you want to buy or check out in 1-3mins, do polls, ask us what we'd like to see, find small filler content type videos, it all helps.
    178k subs is super, you're doing really well, for a niche corner (Fujfilm specific only content) you've probably done the best you can. Your decisions for the future I think are sound and good.

    I guess you have to decide if you are a fuji camera educator or if you are looking to be a click counter, viewer counter. It is not my intention just by watching videos on TH-cam to make it so anyone can make a living doing this. I come for info I an interested in, but don't watch every view any person makes. Again I come for the info and not making you a living. And I have never bough anything a sponsor clutters in a YT video.

    Hi - all of this totally makes sense and I know your decisions will bring you what you need. However, you should know that what's interesting is that the YT algorithm also could be skewing your metrics in a way that's not so much obvious to you. I am always fed your videos when you release a new one but I have absolutely not seen any live streams because I was never aware of them. Why is that? And what other nuances might we be missing. Just a thought. Good luck!!

    Live Streams are bad for the algorithm. I know many who still do them, but then delete them from TH-cam so it won't affect the algorithm. I personally don't because I don't care, but if you do, still do them, but delete right after.

    Thanks for being frank and honest with us!
    I've always loved and appreciated for videos and really helped me fall in the path of fujifilm with how you have the unique ability others don't to bring such an advanced interphase down to earth.
    Since I've grown on mu own path I'd love to share a few personal reasons I've grown to love my fuji even more;
    I've later discovered by chance that fuji has a hidden flex with more modest IR cut filters than other brands opening up the opportunities for more serious astrophotography or infrared photography producing really solid results without any modifications!
    I've grown to really love the form of my XT5, it's like a companion now and is always with me, especially with either the 33 or 90 prime it's just perfect and still despite enough!
    It's a nice conversation starter! People of non photography backgrounds love picking it up, having a feel and have even engaged a few into the joy of photography!
    Colours never get old!
    And thanks to your videos over the years, I now have the knowledge understanding and skills to produce really pleasing photos that tell a story and nicely document a story!
    Thanks again

    Hi Chris, Thank you for the insights. I agree with you regarding the shorts-they're just distracting. I also understand that, in the end, you have to be able to make money. If this requires changing the channel, so be it. I also agree with the live-stream feedback. The last one sucked big time and I could not watch more than 30 min. You really need a 3rd person mixing and working on the settings. You need to be able to fully concentrate on the topic. I also think that your live stream is not to the point. Too long winding talking and less focus on specific topics. Moving on, talking about other brands makes your channel less interesting for me. I am a Fuji user and am not interested in other brands. I also want to caution you branching out to too many other social networks, you might lose focus and spread yourself too thin. In the end, you need to ask yourself how you can add value to a Fuji user like me. And if you don't know that ask us. Its that easy. If you create content and find out afterwards that the audience did not like it - is a waste of time. I am interested to see how your channel will evolve. Change is not easy, but sometimes necessary. I have one more comment. You mention that you love to teach. Having watched your channel for years, you are a great teacher. However, a teacher is only credible if he/she demonstrates deep knowledge of a specific topic. I like to give an example. If I want to learn from a teacher how to take good Milky Way photos, I need to understand the process with setting etc, but most importantly, I need to see evidence (e.g. photos) from the teacher. Otherwise, the teacher is not credible. I think you understand what I mean. Good luck.

    Great video. Your honesty with all of us and your proposed changes to your format makes sense. (and hopefully also makes more "cents" for you) I agree with your appraisal of the "shorts" in You Tube. There are more and more of them making You Tube more cumbersome.I respect your candidness and honesty in addressing the challenges out there.

    Hey Chris,
    I don't know if you'll read this, but I just wanted to share some thoughts here. I swapped from Sony to Fuji around 2021, and did alot of research before doing so. I watched a ton of your videos, and have continued watching them with new releases, etc. If I am being completely honest, I was never a "fan" and did not subscribe. You were excellent at communication and getting your point across, but it was always just a touch too goofy and eccentric for me. This isn't a criticism of you, it just meant your content wasn't for me. However, I kept coming back and watching more as time went on.
    However, this video made me a fan, and I have subscribed. This is one of the best "we need to talk videos" I've ever seen. Your unbiased, honest and humble approach to your channel, your content and your direction tied with clear self reflection is awesome to see. I know we'd always just love to make and create exactly what we want, but when it's our livelihoods on the line, absolutely do what you have to do. I think from your past disclosures, it shows your integrity. I'll be here supporting you.

    The most popular videos being about the most popular devices from the most popular technology company in the world doesn't surprise me and I don't think it should inform your channel's content.
    The livestream piece makes sense. To anyone not watching a livestream while it's live, it's just a very long and unfocused video. That churn is not specific to your channel. That's incredibly common. Livestreams aren't new to TH-cam anymore, but it still isn't typically what people open up the app to watch.
    You know best. And as long as you keep producing great Fuji/photography-related content, I'll be watching.

    I am certainly not a fan of the vertical, shortform videos that now litter TH-cam: Your channel has been and will remain as one of my major 'go-to's' for all things Fujifilm photography related, and I thank you for your commitment to delivering your honest and valued assessments and thoughts on Fujifilm gear. I would not like to see other brands discussed - there are plenty of other channels out there for Nikon, Canon, and so on. You have a degree of honesty and integrity that is an increasingly rare find on TH-cam, so keep up the good work, and you'll keep me subscribing!

    Hi Chris! These are some pretty big changes- I'd have some more conversations with your core watchers and make sure the changes are slowly implemented and tracked. The analytics are very insightful but if your core watchers feel abandoned it could do some damage to this channel. You would also be subject to the intense competition in the tech space whereas now you essentially have no competition because you are 1 of 1 on here. Regardless, I think all these changes are reasonable if implemented well and it's really great that you are communicating this to see what the real world reaction would be. Also, I just want to thank you for how spectacular your very existence is to the camera world; specifically for FujiFilm users. It's criminal that they're not throwing money at you because you exceed anything that they're marketing/customer support is capable of single handledly and you do it with such professionalism and warmth.

    Hi Chris, I appreciate the frankness of your words, your considerations are fair and the decision understandable.
    I agree about the live stream: they are often too long and we have less and less free time (even I watch YT while having breakfast).
    For what my opinion is worth:
    - It's ok stick to 10-15 minute maxvideos, perhaps splitting complex topics into multiple “episodes” (so you can hook attention for next videos).
    - nowaday you are known to be Fujifilm experts: if you expand your scope, you could become one of many channels that talk about photos/videos. Hold on to this expertise of yours because it's what differentiates you.
    - I suggest you a possible topic for a new series of videos: the history of Fujifilm gear
    Ok, I've been long enough, sorry
    Thanks for all you did by now and for what you are going to do next.
    Silvio

    Just wish were involved in other manufactures including might i add Sony.
    thanks for all the help over the years that you have given....Good luck for the future.

    Thank you for all the hard work. Your channel was responsible for my ownership of the GFX100S, and, when used for the more deliberate photography it excels at, the camera delivers stunning results. I also bought a family member an XH-2 so he could also unlock ‘nostalgic negative’ instant Stephen Shore mode! IDK if Fuji has an ambassador program, but if they do, you should be on the short list.
    I also shoot film, mostly medium format, in a range of vintage cameras including the classic GW690 Texas Leica. I love the way color negative film tames 2PM high desert sunlight. Nostalgic Negative got my full attention when they announced it. In the 90s Fuji made a database of the transfer functions for all the popular film stocks of the day as part of their Frontier minilab work. They leverage this database for their film emulations. This is a niche no one else fills. Kodak might be the only other company with this much in depth film response data. I have other digitals to use when speed and 100% autofocus tracking is needed, but the Fuji with its unique color rendering and 4x5 aspect ratio has earned a permanent spot in my pile of gear. Thanks again for all the hard work over the years!

    Well reasoned, good choices for the long term success of the channel. BTW, I don’t care for, or watch Live Streams. They’re generally too long, take too long to get to the point, there’s always shout outs to people watching from around the world. Good for them, but I don’t care who else is watching. It only creates a longer video with more distraction. Vertical short videos, never watch them either, they just get in the way of browsing content. Again, good calls moving forward. Best wishes and good luck.

You must find the balance between Fuji content and audience, in order to survive. I follow you due to your quality content an your communicator charisma. Very disappointed to hear about these changes. As an enthusiast. your channel is my go to channel. Your guidance to me as a fuji shooter has been indispensable to me. Most of your Fuji videos have general information to non Fuji shooters. Had I not had your channel I would have dropped my Fuji camera a long time ago. Perhaps you can get Fuji to help with the economic side of things as you are no doubt making the money. I'd prefer you keep all your content free, as I find most paid content not worth it. Your approach, your humor, and self-deprecating style has always been a hit with me. With the bumblings it makes you real and I feel more connected. The channel is easy to find and it is easy to find the right videos for me. I refer back to them constantly. Please no changes for me.

    If it helps, my feedback: The livestreams did not interest me. The Fuji stuff is invaluable and I have learned so much from you. I get that you need to increase revenue and so happy that you are doing more tech. videos (but am aware that you are competing with many other great people who do that.) Finally, just want to say that I often just enjoy watching the story you tell and the way you do it in your videos. You are one of my favourite TH-camrs.
