    I can't wait to get some hours behind this DRO! I really see it upping my hidden tang knife making game. Once again, major thanks to Little Machine Shop ** for essentially sponsoring the channel with this equipment. Cheers

      Hey, I'm about to do this with my mill, exact everything. Now that you've had this on for awhile are there any tips or anything you would do differently aside from the things you mentioned in this video?

    Oh, that's pretty fancy for a mini mill. I JB welded some cheap ebay DRO's to mine as a joke, but the joke is that they're still on there and they're actually kinda useful.

    This video, and your previous comparison video, are causing me a problem! Now I have to decide whether to spend my savings on a 3990 with this fine gizmo, or an induction forge. Can't do both, so you've made me think, darn you!

  • @yertelt5570

    Great video!! LMS changed the dimension on the Z-axis from 110mm to 75mm for the 3990. They paid attention to that at least, not sure if they added extra washers.

    Might I suggest for the x axis install a stop bolt to column to prevent over travel and damage to reader...if dont want the trouble use a exhaust clamp having to screwed ends facing the slide adding nuts to act as stops

    FYI you shouldn't tin wires that are going into screw terminals, the solder will slowly deform over time and cause a loose connection that can cut out or overheat. Yes, I'm aware that the instructions from little machine shop tell you to tin them, but unfortunately that's simply a bad practice in this case. Best practice is to either use crimp-on wire end ferrules or just plain wire. Pre-tinned wire where the strands are individually tinned and not clumped together by solder can be used as well if corrosion is a concern.

  • @barretharms655

    I quite agree with you and x-axis Dro should not be in the back you should be in the front as the reader can only stop you from doing what you need to do. And always measure from the top of your call nothing about him of your call as if you are not capable of using your Gro well having you were supposed to the table that's really not a problem because it will usually be in a vice. However for each and every individual there is a different personally I would simply rather have another inch and a half of redoubt bar. I also noticed there was no replacing the chip guard. I wonder why? Littlemachineshop may be cheaper than Grizzly but at least Grizzly won't make you ask all these questions. Grizzly maybe a remanufactured but if you don't use Grizzly you're doing it yourself.

    Have a little machine shop vertical mill #4962 with their DRO setup as you have in the Video, I have all hooked up as per shown, I get connection on Blue Tooth, have red blinking lights on the units themselves, but when moving table, no readout. Any help

    • @RedBeardOps
      @RedBeardOps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rick, first and foremost, I'd suggest sending littlemachineshop an email so they can help you trouble shoot. I'm not 100% sure what's going on with your set up. I will say that I had to go and manually select the DRO on my tablets bluetooth section. This took me a while to figure out at the time.

    lol....and here is the video....good deal. When I did mine a year ago, the blueprints were actually incorrect dimensionally in a few areas, called out incorrect parts in others and had poor mounting points. I also had to mill the Y axis mounting bar as their original design crashed into the column. I did a write up and sent it to LMS because I ended up having to get standoffs and do some modifications to their original specs. But, once it was done....I was super pleased.
