Johnny saying “your alright Larusso” was already built up when Johnny doubted his teacher. On top of that we know he didn’t want to fight dirty and even when he did, he still lost. That can definitely gain someone’s respect, so I wouldn’t necessarily say him respecting Daniel is out of character. Also karate kid 2 answers some of your questions towards the end

This movie always brings me back to my AA sponsor and the tough time I had getting sober. My sponsor was a very spiritual man and would say things such as Mr. Miyagi said to Daniel about the Bonsai tree. When Daniel asks him if his vision of trimming the Banzai tree is the right one, Mr. Miyagi responds saying "If come from inside you, always right one." It gets me every time. It's the life lessons in this movie that have always made it very special to me.

Nariyoshi was fighting for the USA in the war, while his wife and baby died to poor health in a Japanese-American internment camp.
Devastating little piece of character in the middle of a relatively much more light hearted movie.

So glad that you were able to get this one re-uploaded. Even though I was able to catch it the first time before it was taken down, I'm giving this a re-watch. 😊
RIP always to Pat Morita(Mr. Miyagi)!!!
I grew up with this movie in the 80s. And I still love it to this day. And it's got one of the best movie soundtracks.
Fun Fact: Ralph Macchio(Daniel) got to keep the yellow car from this movie. And he still has it.
The remaining two movies in the trilogy(The Karate Kid Parts 2 and 3) are definitely worth watching. And the Netflix follow-up series "Cobra Kai" is also a must-watch after Part 3.
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

Here are three tidbits: Pat Morita (RIP) didn't know Karate; he was a comedian on "Saturday Night Live", before becoming "Mr. Miyagi". Ralph Macchio (Daniel) received the yellow car after shooting had ended as a gift from the production. and the referee from the championship was both everybody's Karate teacher and bonus - He was Bruce Lee's (RIP) student.

First time watching your channel. It's clear you understand Japanese so I appreciate that. Like when Mr. Miyagi said "yooshi" and "kono ko wa". The scene about Miyagi's family, I think the common explanation is that his family was in internment camp so when there were complications during labor, then there was no doctor around to attend to them. Regarding the ending, I think many folks aren't used to the way this movie ended... pretty similar to how the early Rocky movies end. But I think it's fine. I think the abrupt ending way is fine as you're done telling the story and there's really no need to drag out the movie for the sake of closure or after story.

The Karate Kid franchise is definltely worth watching if you are going to see the series 'Cobra Kai' cause if you do not, you will miss alot of references used from the Karate Kid movies in the series.
Many noticed the abrupt endng to the movie of the Karate Kid but editing had the idea of what was to be the ending of Karate Kid to be placed in the beginning of Karate Kid 2 instead. Nia, you'd noticed Mr. Miyagi's background in this movie; you will enjoy the sequel as the movie focuses more on Mr. Miyagi's origin.

I actually took karate (shudokan) when I was young. We lived on a farm in the Midwest so it's kind of surprising they even had classes like that in that area. My brother was already in it, & he encouraged me to take it. I think he was worried because he was close to graduating high school and I was a pretty small kid. I was only in it for the year before he went to college, but I made it to a yellow belt.
Anyways, I was only ever in one fight, and I actually used what I'd learned. I was visiting my cousins and they had a bully who was going to beat up one of my cousins. Naturally my cousin told him he'd better not try it because I knew karate (thanks for dragging me into it). The bully had about 6" on me, but he was stocky & I was a rail back then. The bully went to punch me, I moved to the side and threw a roundhouse kick (the only one I was really good at) that caught him in the face & he ended up running off.
A couple years later I had to switch schools & ended up going to my cousin's school. The first day there, I saw the bully who it turned out was in my class. His first words were "Well if it isn't the karate kid". He never messed with me since that fight & we ended up being pretty good friends.

Small trees are bonsai, not banzai. Long O. Pronunciation matters. For example, if you were in Japan and you ordered sake using the same pronunciation that most Americans do (sa-key), you would be referring to a destination, not the drink. Most Japanese syllables are made up of a consonant and a vowel. The vowels are pronounced like this:
    a - ah
    i - ee
    u - oo
    e - eh
    o - oh

I know with shows like Maleficent we're supposed to have sympathy for villains and all of that, but this "who's the real villain?" BS is getting ridiculous. Daniel does nothing to those guys. Ali broke up with Dingleberry and as a guy who has been dumped, it hurts. But I don't have a right to be abusive to her or to the guy she decided to be with. It took me forever to get over her, but I didn't stalk, harass, threaten or assault her new guy. That's unacceptable. I watched Cobra Kai and didn't have any sympathy for Johnny. His family was rich. The fact that he ended up a drunk loser was either unrealistic because his parents would have bailed him out and he seemed to have respect for Daniel by the end of the movie or it was his own stupid fault. I watched the first few episodes of Cobra Kai and Daniel's smart-assery after all those years (and after beating Johnny at the tournament) made no sense thematically. I like flawed characters, but having 2 guys in their 50s act like kids, rekindling a fight and presumably resolved as children didn't make me want to care about either of them and did a disservice to both characters. Here, it makes sense. Johnny is a spoiled rich kid under the influence of an abusive karate instructor. Daniel is the new kid in town and he's going through a lot, so his behaviour is also understandable. Johnny is the villain, but he's also just a kid here. I know the wax on, wax off stuff is cliched now, but back then, it was a really inventive way to tell a story and build character. I could nit pick and say that a Japanese American guy who fought in World War II and lived in California from that time until 1984 would probably have less broken English because he would have spoken it almost every day, but it was the 80s and every movie back then had some kind of racial, ethnic or some other weird stereotype that doesn't age well in 2024. Pat Morita is likeable enough that I think you can look past it.

As someone that’s a little bit of purist for the original karate kid movie, I do have my own issues with cobra Kai, however Johnny becoming broke is not one of them. It is completely possible for someone to come from a rich family and screw up their life and go broke. It definitely has happened and on top of that the show makes it clear that johnnys stepdad doesn’t really care for Johnny all that much, so I would say that’s a decent enough explanation as to why he didn’t bail him out. As for Johnny and Daniel acting like children, the whole point of the show is for both of their characters to grow up and put their differences aside to work together. In fact, adults acting like children happens all the time, I’ve even heard stories of people not getting over things that happened in the past.

Considering how much he wanted and how hard Mr. Morita worked to get this part, Plus that he (spoiler) came back for a sequel tells me he didn’t have a huge problem with stereotypes, etc.
And this is a martial arts film.
An elderly Asian man who teaches both fighting and philosophy isn’t a stereotype.
It’s an Archetype (actually several, functionally: mentor, ally, and trickster)borrowed with ❤️ from Asian martial arts films.
And he knocks it out of the park.
Fun fact: his accent was based upon the accent of Mr. Morita’s uncle.

You really should watch Karate Kid part 2. Its one of the few cases where the sequel is as good as the original (or better). After that you can skip the rest, even though obsessive fanboys and fangirls will always tell you to watch everything no matter what the series is.

Larusso shouldn't have gotten involved. If you look at it from a different perspective Larusso is the villain.

The Karate Kid Part 3 wasn't worth watching until the Cobra Kai TV show made it so. Fortunately for you, Cobra Kai has not made The Next Karate Kid essential viewing.

@@NiaMakiReacts Oh yeah! No spoilers, of course. But the TV show, which started off as a fan service for one season on youtube, has turned into an actual Universe not unlike the Marvel comic book movies, if you can believe it.

Shame you were introduced to this franchise from the remake. No disrespect to Jayden Smith and Jackie Chan but I just didn't buy the relationship between the main characters that's there between Daniel and Miyagi.

That's totally the problem with millennials & zoomers!!! You need to learn respect & when an older accomplished, experienced man or master of his craft is offering to teach you honor, self respect & self discipline, you should just shut up & listen & not question everything!!! You'll know if & when you need to!!!
