The old A08 was a better map driving backwards. Forwards was boring but backwards actually seemed pretty fun, simple but ending with the higher speed grass

some of those maps look like they are from the original version of trackmania united, before the "forever" update... in the original trackmania united weren't the platforms with blue barriers (I still have the DVD with the game :D)

Find someone to make like a $5 low effort recreation of all of the main campaign maps from memory - just the track itself, not the scenery - in under like 20 minutes per map, not allowed to reference the real maps in any way. See what comes out, and if it's jank, you go and hire a good scenery person to make the scenery for the maps look like the maps they were based on. Then, without telling people what's going on with the maps, bring in like 50 actually good players to play through that version in a sort of race, everyone gets like 10 tries at the map to set the best time they can, all at once. Only thing they know going in is they're going to be getting 10 runs on each map, set the best time they can before moving on to the next one, and that everyone will have no idea what maps they'll be playing until they see the maps. A01 would be a bit sus, then going straight into A02 would be like "wait a minute..." before it devolves into a "oh wow it's just the basic maps but scuffed AF, what're C10 and D13 gonna be like?"
Comparing the two A09 tracks, the beta version is better for not having the freewheel, but the release version has a better finish (with the bugslide).

Look more like place holders than intended to be final maps. Or is that overestimating Nadeo in those times? I think TrackMania would be nowhere without the map editor and user generated content.
This was my thought too. They feel more comparable to "concept art" than something intended to get put into the game and that they made them super quickly just to see if the idea was any good before they put in the time to fine tune and decorate it.
I think it's closer to vastly underestimating the amount of planning that goes into game dev. These are definitely just concept placeholders someone slapped together to have a general layout of the campaign and for some maps they might have some ideas they want to see in the actual versions.
Full a huge multi-lap map, I would try to set up my second lap to start and end at the same speed, location, pitch and yaw then copy paste to complete a full race that should verify because the game's physics are deterministic and being at the exact same location with all other factors equal should result in the same deterministic outcome. After I submit that and get it authenticated, I'd try to "solve" two more laps so that the second lap improves its time and the third lap sets up a repeatable lap for verification. Once I have something that works, submit that new one. Rinse, repeat, until every lap is improving its time.
Cheat Engine Speed Hack that people were using is hot key togglable. So Ryolu probably didn't play the entire 7 minutes in slomo, but only the important parts

The betas were not public as far as I remember, but quite a few prominent community members were invited. At that point it was confidential but of course after the game released no one cares any more. I guess someone just dug through their archive. I also should still have these maps in my old archives somewhere, I was in the alphas and betas and helped to translate TMF.
I guess it might be related to the recent find of old beta physics in the game files. Also the gathering of archives of all the different beta versions in the TMU community. People have generally gone back to them and explored them a bit more. If anyone wants the ManiaPlanet beta stuff, I have it!
11:20 you cannot blame them they were alpha/beta maps and they decided not to release them in the fullgame blaming them for something they didn't intend to be played is like grading a presentation you make on your first draft and not your final or similar things

The white flag tracks feel to me like Nadeo was still using more of a TMN design rhetoric that the finished tracks grew out of.
