This looks like so much fun and so much bragging rights, it's badass and takes balls. I'm going to look to see how to get to this level. Any advice?

      Trust me I wouldn't live the Army to operate Cranes or going into law Inforcement or anything else you have a good position and the Navi/Army is the best place to be and you can realy make the difference. A Crane operator job is ok but after 6 months you would be rethinking if that was a good decision, long hours, low pay, climbing and up and down wen you want toilets, people will talk to you on a diffrent language all day just UP, Down, Left, Right etc is not that great but is a job and some people love it like myself, but if you ask me if living the Army to go and operate Cranes is a god idea I would say NO! You can always visit your local tower crane training centre, normaly this places offer like a free introduction were they will explain about the cranes and work, you would climb the tower crane and have a look around even maybe operate one for a short moment with the trainer to see if you happy with it then book the training etc. But my suggestion and probably the same suggestion as most people that have left the Army would be don't do it! In 6/12 months you will regret it like most do!

      Hi, the training as far as I know is one week for tower cranes luffer/saddle, or 2 weeks for Luffer/Saddle tower cranes, Pedestrian/ remote control cranes and Slinger and Signaller, but there maybe places were it takes longer like a CITB College or something like. After completing the training and if all is passed one will recive a certificate of completion and a CPCS Red Card "Trained Operator" then the operator has 2 years to complete an NVQ for each categories costing a few thousands of Brithis Pounds more (Exesive Prices! The phone numbers say it all 0300 and the like) then one can change the Red card to Blue Card "Competent Operator" then this is renewed every 5 years with the required CPCS criteria like the operator log book etc! the Red card is valid for 2 years with a 1 year extension acepted if needed, but the Red card is not renewable after the expiring time runes out! The paiments are relevant to the need, i have seen Red cards getting paid more then blue cards like in August wen everyone is in holidays to be honest, but the jobs was for 2/3 weekd only like a holliday cover! it depends on the need for an operator and how many are about! Geting back to the training, under CPCS criteria Red card trained operators are getting work experience and should not work alone in a construction site what happens a lot in many sites! The CPCS criteria is for a Red card to work alongside a blue card operator like in a team and get work experience on the job for up to 2 years and obtain the relevant NVQ and change the card to blue and from then on is considered a Competent Operator/ proffessional crane operator sort of speaking, one to get good takes a long time experience takes many years on the job and hard work and the ability to learn and search for related content and keeping up to date with legislations and regulations. One will need to keep training to upgrade himself like a CPCS training in Lift Aupervisor and Appointed Person, other training like Rigger, Master Rigger, trafic marshal, first aider, Nebuchadnezzar or iosg in health and safety etc learning Road laws and ground presure per axle and plant and equipment structural strength and safety mode factors etc, that sort of information keeping learning and improving

    • @RicardoTheCraneOperator
      @RicardoTheCraneOperator  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The controls work like on a delay I do that for power not the speed! For speed I would keep it like 4 gears then go down to 2 so the hook block would stay at the same radius the increase the gears gradually but notice that I would get to 4/top gear for power to move all the superstructure, like 1/2 gear just to move then 4 gear to get it going the back down to 2 to keep it smooth no in/out on the block but increasing gears for speed. At the end I would just decrease the speed going down gears or let it slew to a stop to giving it more power or any gear like. Most crawler and mobile cranes use of throttle for power I believe the joystick also don't have mechanical gears instead this are digital the more you go the fastest it moves?

    • @BigGuyAl007
      @BigGuyAl007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same Michael, progressive gears. Crawlers and mobiles are the same as a tower crane. Throttle doesn't make you slew faster. Just the wire will go faster on the throttle!

      Hi angel andi, I live in the UK and we use a different qualification then NCCCO... NCCCO is used in the USA, what you need to do is to contact a tower crane training center using google and ask what you will need to do the training, there maybe a health and safety qualification prior to the training or a work at high training etc simple training most like 1 day training but needed, you will also need a crane fit to work medical in some places. this is what i have found: www.morrow.com/product/nccco-tower-crane-operator/
      Description
      The Morrow Equipment Company Training Center is a permanent test site for Tower Crane NCCCO written and practical exams. Our training will help candidates to prepare for these examinations. Subject areas of study included but are not limited to:

      5 Days
      Computer Based Test (CBT) exam: $250
      Practical exam: $70
      The Candidate Handbook (PDF) is available for download at the NCCCO website. The handbook includes application forms and a list of important examination study materials.
      Exclusive classes of 4 or more students are available upon request. For additional information and possible dates, please contact the Training Center at 503-585-5721 Ext. 0110 or email training@morrow.com
      I have no affiliation with this training center or any other training center, i hope this information helps you. There is many other places to train with different prices and locations etc do an online search "NCCCO tower crane training"! Best Regards Ricardo

      Hi Kapokid, I'm CPCS qualified living in London, UK. But is the same as NCCCO in the USA it is just that every country has they're own qualifications. The Tower Crane training Theory and Practice are simple to achieve, similar to a car/motorcycle driving license, but instead of road safety is more like lifting Operations safety and laws regarding lifting Operations, also how the Tower Cranes are set up/erected etc and what to look for every day. Cars connect to the road using tyres, cranes connect to the ground using ground bearing pressures and that sort of thing you will learn this sort of things in theory, you will also learn lots of crane safety material! The practice you will be inspecting the crane safely and as per regulations/daily and weekly checks, also learning the controls and how the load behave/swings etc, you will learn abouth advert weather conditions and the impact on the load and crane movement like rain can make loads heavier, hight winds on light load or long surfaces can make them spin out of control etc. The training is not that difficult I can say is similar to a car license, tractor or any other machine operations license, you will be training to operate the crane not to erect and dismantle crane or build cranes, is a simple 1/2 weeks training then many years to master the skills and obtain experience. Best Regards Ricardo

    • @RicardoTheCraneOperator
      @RicardoTheCraneOperator  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, This crane seems not to like the slow speed gear and starts to make snake movement on the jib so picking it slowly then go into gear seems to help there is no snake movement. I helps only on slow speeds like starting to move or slowing down or wen close to the building after geting up to speed one can get into gear steady but the load will move like waves going and stopping then going and stopping again but if one controls the slower movement and matches it one can get and steady speed all the way trought! Tower cranes work diffrent then mobile cranes those are more precise and can use the trotle to get soeed or force etc tower cranes use like mechanical gears, one click into first gear or second or third, there 8s no middle therm! Some new cranes are now coming in with a sensor like as fast one move as fast it goes but there 8s always the need to get use to the crane and I have notice it operates in a very similar way but no back notching wen one can reverse the control to brake the crane to a stop. Hey,
      Most Tower Cranes do that, it has to do with metal diflection, reason way I'm flicking it to build up speed instead of just shoking it with gear 1 or 3 etc, also there is a heavy load attached to the tower crane and one needs to be smooth with the load and there is also metal diflection/reaction to the weight of the load and gravity forces as it swings around and hoisting up/down.
      Potain cranes are good Cranes, there is many other good Cranes not just Potain but Potain Cranes are OK.

    • @RicardoTheCraneOperator
      @RicardoTheCraneOperator  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it looks scary at first but that will go way, the tower crane is simple a crane in a top of a tower the biggest or the more you can lift the bigger the tower this is to do with ground pressure and superstructure/structural strength. the tower cranes move a little similar to a tree wen the wind blows it moves as this machines are manufactured using special mix metal and the metal is flexible, wen you pick up a load you will notice deflection wen the crane arm/jib is bending with the weight this can also increase your radius a little like 10cmm up to 50cm+- depending on the crane and superstructure strength, so you need to get use to it, every machine reacts different some have more slew engine power or less or hoist power, the breaks are stronger or no? but is not hard to operate a crane but to operate a crane safely and fast it takes some time to ad-quire experience and know the in and out of situations and the work environment but put the white belt on and grow thru the ranking and maybe in a few years you will be a black belt ;) what i suggest is for you to contact and go into your local/closest training center and to go up a crane and have a feeling of it to see if is something you would like and enjoy doing? most places will offer you a one day crash course free were the trainer will explain more about lifting operations and laws, safety and safe system of work procedures and paperwork before work start, then you go up the crane with the trainer and enjoy the view! have a look around crane components they will explain what you need to check before/during/after work like safety pins, rope cable, concrete stat etc commune sense stuff you will even probably seat on the cabin and have a go on the crane to check it is what you expect like moving around trolley or jib in and out etc going up and down with a hook block. keep calm and relaxed everything will be ok is like going for a car driving lesson and the people there are there to train you and they have plenty experience to do exactly that, everything will be ok! Question do tower cranes lean backwards when no weight on the hook?
    Also do cranes have degrees of lean?

    • @RicardoTheCraneOperator
      @RicardoTheCraneOperator  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, good and hard question! Tower cranes lean back with the counter balance weight that can be 35Te more or less! this is used to balance the load in the other side on the jib similar to trying to balance a pen in your finger tip, there needs to be the right balance, cranes work in a similar way. Wen lifting a load one notices the cranes deflection this happens on the jib and tower but most on the jib. Crane manufacturers have done all the research about lean angles as diffrent cranes have difrent structures and structural strength and the lean angles will be diffrent. This is not something a operator learn doing is training we only learn that the will be deflection with the loads and how to conter react load swing related to deflection but manufacturers do have lean angle chants at difrent configuration. Ie; a tower crane with 7x 6m mast sections hight with a 35m jib length will lean less then if it is installed with a diffrent set up like with a 13x 6m mast sections and a 70m jib the same crane can be set up with diffrent configurations this influences the leaning angles. But judging all the cranes the same is wrong as all cranes are diffrent, can be a small lifter tower crane with low SWL capacity with a 1.2m x 1.2m crane mast and all small structure probably lifting max 3Te up to 15m radius or a large and strong tower crane with a mast a lot larger and a lot stronger structure pro able able to lift 24Te up to 25m radius, then even if the strongest crane is smaller maybe there will be less movement due to structural strength as it is biger/stronger crane. I hope this information helps? Is not something I have study but small fragmentations of information I have and experience. Best Regards Ricardo

      @@sandinobaez1706 hi 👋 No you don't need to be part of the union in United Kingdom, but maybe in some other country's you do! As fare as I know in UK to get jobs you register online on work website like Jobcenter, Indeed, CV Library and the like also there is many jobs going on online for Tower Crane Operators and other cranes/plant, most jobs this days are publicised online.
      Qualifications needed; You will be looking at the Health and Safety foundation training using the CSCS book puchaded from WHSmith or other book shop before any training or job, this is called CSCS and is done on a touch screen testing center is like a theory based training answering questions regarding construction health and safety and environment also highlights some relislations and regulations all done 9n a computer ticking boxes and watching videos and identifying hazards etc. After your CSCS you need to contact a Plant/Tower Crane Training Center to train and obtain a Red CPCS card.
      RED CPCS card is Trained operator to learn on the job with more experienced people with a blue card.
      After a NVQ is achieved for the desired categories you can upgrade to a Blue CPCS card, this us Conpetent Operator.
      NVQ - National Vocational Qualification this is a inwork Diploma achieved gathering evidence from your jobs and experience level on the job.
      This is not a detailed or exhaustive list but I hope it gives you some lights on how it works.

    Hello, Ricardo. I am 15 years old and found crane operation to be something I would greatly desire to do in the future! Do you have any recommendations on what type of courses/schooling I should take? I know that high school doesn't apply much to this sort of stuff, but can you maybe recommend some things I should focus on for now or in the following years? Should I take an NVQ course in college or something? Thanks :)

      @RicardoTheCraneOperator  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Alex, At 15 you have many challenges ahead of you and many other opportunity's some i would like to recommend the new generation is to study and self improve, study and qualifications for a Crane Operator are more or less like a driving license normally a tower crane training takes around one or two weeks depending on your skills and how many cranes you are doing the license for like: Tower Cranes training on Saddle cranes, Luffers cranes, Pedestrian cranes or Slinger-Signaller and that, in UK we use the CPCS license this qualification is based on a red card trained operator and blue card obtained with a NVQ after training wile working. As for study's and qualifications the CPCS will be all you to start and the SCSC basic touch screen construction Health and Safety test, but if this is something you like and you are looking to work with heavy machinery and plant and you still in school you can start do a Mechanic training course and then Enginering and this will bring you more opportunity's then just operate a tower crane and can do many other things. All the best

      Just asking as there is different heavy lifting jobs around like crane operator on tower or mobiles, or crawlers cranes, spider cranes etc etc or rigger/slinger signaller, Appointed Person or Lift Supervisor and maybe also site supervisor like two in one etc etc... But in any of this trades wages can go from £14 up to £20 based on 10 hours a day but some jobs are based on 9 hours a day as there is no need for daily checks and paperwork etc, but it depends on what you do on that construction site the job role also qualifications. some jobs pay more but again maybe its night time work or a busy fast job with shift work probably away from home etc i never seen but i know there is some busy jobs around every country has big things being build . the living cost are very high too, here payments are done weekly and also most things are paid weekly rent, tax and all other expenses that can easily take all your wages or close to it depending on how you live like

    • @RicardoTheCraneOperator

      I forgot to mention that the qualifications for work in this industry in the UK are only UK based qualification in here no accepts any other qualification, this qualification can cost you as much as a university diploma/master degree etc but not valid for ever and most training will be work based you do the training and expend a small fortune and then you will have a red card that will need to be converted to blue from trained operator to competent operator. also a lot harder to get work on the red cards etc

      Hi, people can ask things to contractors but I would be surprised if you even get a reply back, it is not easy to go up a tower crane there I many bureaucracies even for site crane operators to get up the crane, a site crane op wen arriving on site needs to have contact the contractor appointed person or report to the reception then go trpught an application form and insurance/company form, site inductions, familiarization, appointment letter etc etc all this before one can go up the crane and operate the crane.
      What you can do is to ask your local training centre if you can have a look at the crane and if some one can show you around the crane to see if your ok with the hights and that the tower crane training will be a right decision for you. Most training centers offer this like a couple of hours as an introduction to tower cranes sort of things for people wishing to do the training but are not sure if that's the right thing to do or if the person will be OK with the hights and the crane operations like load swings etc.

      Hi, every country seems to have their own way to do it I belive in the united States there is a Union link to the training some how 🤔 most country's in Europe including the UK have a simple system there is the cobstruction health and safety training and test this is a book and a test done at the testing center on a computer, then the crane training center to get your Red Trained Operator CPCS card. After one needs to work for upto 2 years and on that time one needs to book an NVQ, this takes easy 3/6 months... my last one toke over 16 months as the first NVQ company went bust, then wen the NVQ Diploma is achieved one can apply for the Blue Competent Operator CPCS card. But the best call is emailing your crane training center and ask what's needed they will gide you to local laws and all the process fir you to obtain your national crane operator qualification. Hi it is fairly comfortable, not all Cranes have heater and air conditioning but normaly the construction company provides portable heaters and fans or the crane hire company, most cranes this days have heaters but not all have Air Conditioning, on recent years in new cranes there is more cranes with this things as time progress the crane cabin confort and material inprove and i notice there is more and more cranes coming out with air conditioning as standard from factory not as an extra, crane cabins are not like the interior of a Rolls Royce yet but fairly good conditions similar to like a Ford transit.
      Climbing up/down times It depends, some places have like a relift crane operator to cover brakes but come construction sites don't have it, you can always climb down to go to toylet etc in case you need to, just let the management know what your doing and stop the crane as per manufacturer specifications or the site planing etc.

In many industries there is two persons banking the crane a slinger and a signaller but in construction there is one person at each end of the lifting doing the two jobs. On oil rigs and that there will be two persons at each end of the lifting one directing the crane with hand signals and radio comunications acting as a Signaller and other person controlling the load using the ropes/tagline and holding it doing the Slinger job role. Hi, it depends on your budget as a mobile crane operator you will need all the lorry licences and training and experience then do the mobile crane licences you need to have the two licences Lorry driver/Mobile crane op, this is also more challenging as you will need to drive around from site to site and deal with ground bearing presures so you don't overturn or sink the roads or round utility boxes also the lifts are nornaly more complex and a large variety of lift one day maybe you will be lifting a tower crane into place the next maybe instaling glass on a building facade or removing a car that fell down into a river or something crazy like that. As a tower crane operator you will be looking a the tiwer crane licences and the normal construction safety trainings and that but most lifts will be repetitive concret or steel etc nornsly will be always the sane from start to finish, you will need to travel around to work but if you live in a large bussy city there should be plenty work 💪 around. • @RicardoTheCraneOperator

      Hi, Thanks for the question. Money wise it rely depends on demand, some country's a mobile crane operator is paid more then a tower crane Op but some other country's is the o posit way. In order to become a crane operator it depends on the country again some country's the study's are 6 months at a formation camp similar to a college for diverse professional training but longer then a professional training center and other country's the training is like 1 week at a professional training center specialized in those types of cranes only, you probably will need to do other training to support the job role like a rigger training, health and safety, crane rescue, critical crane operator medical etc. i believe is easier for a tower crane to become full qualified, as a mobile crane op needs extra qualification to drive the crane from site to site, like a lorry license and maybe a heavy haulage training like CPC training? • @RicardoTheCraneOperator
      @RicardoTheCraneOperator  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBrostorm I believe to get to 85K a year you will need to work fare from home in a barge or a similar environment "OFFSHORE/ INSULATED AREAS" were you can go home for the weekend/week every two weeks or so but again i'm in UK and the prices can change in
      UK you wont do 85K a year not even if you work 24H a day as rates go from 14 to 20 a hours on 10 hours a day not including weekend and overtime and TAX/NIS deductions at around 20/30% +- as a normal mobile crane operator living and working in the same city you will probably do half of that including overtime and weekend work/night shifts etc in the USA, unless you have been trained and work on a large machine like a 800 Tones crane or something bigger and have lots of experience and work long hours there is no chance for 85K a year, unless you have a job working every day including weekend overtime and 2/3 hours overtime a day something urgent to build working 24 hours maybe working night shift etc. i believe to become a mobile crane operator the first thing is the driving license for the lorry's and heavy vehicles so you can learn were heavy vehicles can drive, how strong the roads are and what weight you can have per tire or vehicle axle, underground hazards and ground bearing pressures stated by the manufacturer etc. Then go into a mobile crane training center, normally professional mobile crane training is a 5 days course depending on the crane and complexity. The first jobs or 1/2 years will be hard as you will be learning how people behave wen the crane arrives on site what they expect from you, how to operate the crane safely/ no excessive swings, what crane banksman riggers are good or not, how to fallow the lift plan's and all the work related tasks but nothing too extreme just a new job in a new environment/activity. • @RicardoTheCraneOperator
      @RicardoTheCraneOperator  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matt U, I can advice yes... Fallow the training standards/criteria you have been trained to. Do all you Tower Crane checks before and after use as specified on your training, fallow the Lift Plan/Safe System of Work and is Wind Speeds for every item. Take your time wen operating the crane go slow at first with a speed your comfortable with, speed comes with time even the most experienced crane operators will start slow and get up to speed with time and wen they know the machine better also use common sense if it doesn't look right it's probably not. I wich you all the best and Remember Safety First "Better Safe than Sorry".
      I know the new drivers have to go through a few jobs until they find a place that accepts them as there will be swings etc, it always takes some time to get the hang of it and then the improvement will be fast but geting jack from the first jobs us commun normally they will say sone one is coming from the company or any other excuse like. You need to be strong at the start as in any job the start is always the hardest part! Expect long hours of work and weekends as wen asked if you can do the weekend, what they actualy meaning/saying is you will do it as there is no other crane operator to operate your crane that knows the job the radius and slew angles and hights etc if you tyr driver you suppose to do it as you know the machine and the ins and outs around the job.
      All the best and ask any questions if needed I will be happy to help!

To be experience like me i would say 5+ years if you get to study well and be interested in learning and working proactive and as a team player, I have taken longer then 5 years as i'm not native and there was some barriers on my learning skills but i did done a few training and i hope to do more in the future, but if you study a lot and work short times in different jobs you can be there in 5 years this includes slinger-signaller, tower crane operator, crane lift supervisor etc. building of jobs churches to schools to colleges to city centers, to building of mix use residential and commercial and river side sites, stadiums, complete council estates, expensive building and houses (luxury), installation and building of cladding and moving heavy loads in the building interior and lifting using other lifting equipment then cranes etc. After finishing training is never easy to get a job as no experience and the control of the machine and safety will not be the best so the first 1/2 years will be hard until you get to control the crane well and find out what works or not etc. All the best Ricardo

I know in UK is "CPCS" in France and Switzerland is "CACERS" in the USA and Canada I'm not sure but can be NCCO or LEEA? The best beat is to ask around contact a few training centers look for work online and ask what sort of qualifications are needed for the job so you can make sense what you will need. It depends on experience and were you live in the USA and Canada, Australia crane operators are paid more then in UK. UK wages are all about the same 18/20 depending on the job a location and operators experience, some jobs pay more but there is also plenty expences regarding the job this is traveling, accommodation, foods, trainings, critical medical, drogs and alcohol test, PPE etc others, there is plenty expences and tax to pay!
