another useful tutorial! you'd shown the ken burns copy/reverse trick for horizontal vid sometime ago, and just yesterday i had occasion to use it. (though i had to dig back into the tutorial to refresh my memory on HOW...) thanks again.
Your video solved the problem I ran into on a recent shoot. Started shooting in landscape and finished shooting in portrait orientation. When it came time to edit I realized my mistake. Thank you!!!!
One of the best how to vids I've seen on TH-cam - spot on, helpful and concise - Thank you! I learned new tricks that will streamline my work. Liked and subbed 🙏
Thank you so much! I've been eyeballing those transitions to try to get them as close as possible. I had no idea something like this was possible! Thank you again - I really appreciate all the things I've learned from you!
oh my GOSH!!!!! This is a HUGE timesaver. The convoluted way I had been converting my long form videos to Shorts was a nightmare. This is literally revolutionary. Why iMovie has not retitled "App Preview" to "Longform to Shorts" is beyond me. With the push to create Shorts in social media these days, Apple is desperately behind in this area. Btw, I have been using iMovie since 2000 but have learned so many useful tips, timesavers and tweaks from your channel. Thank you SO much for this tutorial!
this is so cool, it allows editing art with I movie. i love that. thank you so much for your all your gifts. I was struggling with this for years, not even thinking that there is an easy possible solution.
Dude you are amazing!!! Never knew that iMovie had awesome tools that if you do some work arounds can greatly benefit your videos!!! Keep them coming!!!
Wow. Never in a million years would I have been able to figure out how to use iMovie's (horrible) interface to do either: 1) switching to vertical; or 2) cropping while tracking a moving target. Thanks!
I can't get a dummy clip for vertical set up. How do you do it... I can do it horizontally. Also, putting a Vertical video before vertical does not make my horizontal clips vertical. I am perplexed. I totally want to do shorts, but I am having issues... I am using a Mac Computer. Help? FYI - I love your videos.

It's so weird that iMovie has to work like this: "App Previews" after a decade, instead of calling it vertical. Tricking the timeline to do vertical with a dummy video. Splitting and reframing... I'm happy it's available but not in the way I have to get to it.
Bottom line. Vertical videos are just stupid. Which is why I don’t watch “shorts”. Shorts are for people with extremely limited concentration and focus anyway. Note to social media platforms…people see in landscape more than vertical anyway. You know, we have more horizontal peripheral vision than vertical peripheral vision. Just stop with this stupid fad. 🤦🏼♂️
You are such a good teacher! Clear language, well prepared materials, great pacing for us beginners - so good! Thanks so much for this video.
Thank you for the kind words.
that movement tracking was very nicely done
I agree 100% @hazmatite.🌸

@@MacVideoMagic I will and check back thanks!
@@MacVideoMagic This was great - exactly what I needed!
How can we export 4k shorts
Is there another way to do this without the dummy clip? Keynote will not keep my dummy clip at 1080 X 1920. It keeps auto-adjusting it.
Can you please explain, how can i do this hack on ipad?
My horizontal clip does not get put into the vertical aspect ratio. Even if I had a dummy clip beforehand. Help?
What if you've never made a vertical video ever, then what are you supposed to do to make your first one in imovie, bro?
You can make one out of a landscape video, or shoot one on your phone.
You = good
You = too kind
No, not just good - excellent!

Agreed. Many reasons why viewers are pushing me to do DaVinci Resolve Free tutorials.
