  • There has a been a ton of opposition with remote workers coming back to the office now that more and more companies are requiring their once remote workers to now be in the office at least a couple times a week. But in some cases, it is being used as leverage agains employees to ensure remote workers are first to be fired before employees who come into the office.

      If you think your hair got crazy in the wind, you should see mine. I don’t wear hats, so when I’m in the wind, my smooth straight hair looks like an eagle’s nest. And my wife’s uncle is an embarrassment in the wind. He brushes his hair from all around his head and neck to push it to hide his huge bald spot, and uses a gallon of hairspray to keep it there, when the wind blows, his hair lifts up like the hood in a 1949 tractor. Every hair he can find, he brushes it to that bald spot… and I wouldn’t be surprised if any of it, is brushed up from his armpits.

      Hello Michael, thank you for all the good information. I have owned a 2 bedroom 2 bath, 5th floor condo on the ocean in Ormond Beach for over 10 years as a vacation home. Florida insurance has gotten so bad that I’m thinking about self insuring. What do you think. My job is stable and the condo is paid off. The condo association insures the outside of the building and the property, so I’m really just insuring my furniture, appliances and the interior walls. I have hurricane windows, doors and shutters. I have owned homes for 30 years and have never made a insurance claim.

    I am WFH. In my field, it's fairly standard. We had WFH to a lesser extent prior to the illness as well. Everyone in my department is WFH. We have not been asked to return, and in fact, we have been hiring more remote workers located nowhere near an office with no intent to have them ever come into an office. Speaking of older people having to work now. I was recently at a grocery store in Northern VA (close to DC) and a man in his late 60s or so was checking out a lady with two kids. She didn’t speak a word of English but paid for her groceries in food stamps. About $200. Thé man just looked st me and said, “can you believe this? She refused to give 5c for the bag of her own money, and i am here working to pay for my groceries at my age.” I later saw the same lady, with kids getting drum roll… into a Mercedes SUV! I felt sorry for the man right away seeing that people have just figured out how to use the system for their advantage. I am sure it’s always existed but it’s unprecedented now. And the anger and bitterness of the older generation having to work late in life to buy groceries is completely justified.

    • @computron5824

      Companies have been outsourcing what they could for a very long time. It works for some things, but not everything. We all know what happened to American manufacturing, but it doesn't mean that the US can't produce goods locally either. In fact, it's downright beneficial to produce certain things in the US if you don't want to be dependent on places like China.

      Management needs people to manage or they know the company will not need them; which is the truth and the real reason why management wants people back in the office. In most cases management is dead weight and a waste of money since the workers know what they have to do and don't need management to tell them what to do.
      Only in the hard to find skills will remote work be a possibility

    I have a story to tell you and anyone who reads this. In Phoenix Arizona there is a Public Park where several hundreds of people have set up tents because they became "homeless" in the past two years. Tv News went to interview some people in the park, one man said, he had an apartment and was paying his bills every month. Landlord after a year raised his rent for the following year, it was too high for his wages so he had to leave. The man figured what he was making per hour at his current job? was not worth the cost of renting anymore. He was only living to pay the rent and utilities and was broke from week to month every month and lost "hope". I work from home and sales have dramatically dropped since July 2022. I believe things will get worse over the coming months. By the way, love the beach walk and your hair blowing. 😊

With my home recently paid off, my fixed expenses are only about $1200 a month. I have enough in savings I could retire and maintain my current lifestyle and it's no 3 million and I'm not 65.

    • @user-xe3si8vh6c
      @user-xe3si8vh6c ปีที่แล้ว

      @@allaboutroofing2 3 million dollars would generate $100k a year income roughly and last for a lifespan past retirement of roughly 30 years. The formula accounts for inflation, so assuming you retire in 20 years the cost of living would be much higher. But you’re on the right track if you’re expenses are that low and you’re home is paid off, great job!

    • @allaboutroofing2
      @allaboutroofing2 ปีที่แล้ว

      IRA, 401k, equity on the home can all significantly lower the amount required to retire. If I hit 70 and run out of money, I could reverse mortgage my home and get a million or so to live on till I die. Also you can bet your ass I'll be getting every penny from social security and Medicare for all the money I've paid in. My point is, retirement doesn't cost as much as when you are building wealth and have all the expenses like car payments and mortgages that are typically paidoff at retirement age. The biggest mistake people are making is retiring without own a home and being subject to rent increses and on going full expenses. If you have no debt, I inflation doesn't effect you very much.

    There will never be a shortage of remote IT and knowledge jobs. I have worked remotely since year 2001 as a consultant/contractor. My hometown does not support tech companies, so I looked at companies elsewhere with remote opportunities. I haven’t looked back. Many companies simply do not have the space or resources for contractors working on projects with a defined start and end date. Contracting/consulting is a perfectly valid way to earn a living. Few jobs are “lifer” jobs these days. Learn to create your own opportunities and to move quickly when business ebbs and flows. Michael, please stop treating remote workers like ugly red-headed step-children who drive up real estate prices. We deserve to live where we want to live and raise our families, just as you do. Agreed. I worked for several years as a contractor/consultant and I would go back to it again if needed. I left for a major company in 2014 due to one, major missing component: benefits. It has been worth it for me (so far) to work as a full time permanent employee due to amazing, inexpensive healthcare/dental/vision, FMLA and STD/LTD coverage, free life insurance, six or more weeks of paid time off, holidays paid, and the retirement 401k/stock/HSA match which is worth tens of thousands per year. Working for a company with benefits will allow me to retire much sooner than I could working as a contractor. However, I may go back to occasional contract/consulting when I retire or when I want to go to a part-time basis. Both types of employment have their pros and cons.

Or worse, lose their job and can't make a mortgage payment. Also CNBC had an article a few days ago where over 60% of the surge in house prices was caused by remote workers moving. Maybe remoters can rent their houses and don't sell. Love to see rent prices fall since I am a renter by choice, till I buy a house. i think people who dont have a remote job dont realize that these jobs literallly dont need an office. I work in data analytics and i quit working for the state of nevada last year because they wanted everyone to start coming back in. The office was dark stuffy, the heater was always stuck on during summer, and i developed back problems because of how bad the office chairs were. even in the office co-workers hardly EVER interacted with each other. and management claimed the same bs that it was to promote "interactive work culture." I think i was less productive because i was constantly taking 15 minute breaks to walk laps around the parking lot just to get out of that dark stuffy office. I now work 100% remote for Anthem and LOVE it. I hardly ever take breaks and find im way happier and more productive. I think companies are only calling their employees back because they dont know how else to promote productivity other than breathing down peoples necks. At least that was the case with the state of Nevada. During my exit interview they said theyre having a really hard time keeping their employees, i think this will be the case with most companies who force people to come back. I will NEVER commute to a dark stuffy office again.

China, Russia and other countries are already planning on coming up with something and if it happens we are going to be hurting really bad here in the U.S.
    The fed needs to stop playing games and just raises the rates as high as they need to at once.

      The US dollar going up is the very reason it will remain the world reserve currency. The world will not trade their exports in exchange for any currency China and Russia comes up with.

    Michael- other than TH-cam income how do you plan to go forward since RE is in a downturn?

      Hey Jeff, mainly I am focused on TH-cam right now and since real estate prices are so high here in Miami I can just do a couple deals a year and that is just fine with me. Even in a slow market making a couple sales a year is doable.

    Well if they get fired that would be the demise of Floridian real estate.
