There is so much money you have to spend not only to buy a home, but to take care of it. Most people don't consider insurance, property taxes etc. Michael, is buying a home worth it?
I hate going to the store. It's like that old tale about putting the frog in the pot of cold water and, when you put it on the burner, it won't jump out because the increase is so gradual. I'm literally paying twice as much for many items than I was paying a couple of years ago. TWICE!
My dad drilled "if you cant pay for it in cash today, you cant afford it" and "if you have a loan on it, it isnt yours" into me growing up. Looking around, i always felt poor, but now, its starting to feel like hes saved my life.
Wow Sounds exactly like my dad too, I kept this principle on myself too.. at 3rd world country. I felt so poor, when I compares it to the livestyle around my peers. But then again, the lines part from saving.. mine literally above 90% of majority, and Debt free!!! While those who love wasting money for mundane stuff, that can be reduced by making it at home? They ended up having less saving than I do.. they "imagine 1G of saving on their bank account.." wow, that kind of statement really opened my eye. I saved me plenty of nonsense price markup.. $8 coffee? Bitch please!

We just applied for a home equity loan. We have $350,000 In equity. After 1 hour on the phone I asked what the fees were. They a wanted $3500.00 just to barrow $50,000.00. Dollars of my money. I almost fell down. I'm not the smartest guy but there's no way I'm giving someone $3500.00 to barrow my own money. We have a nice home. We are leaving it the way it is. Unbelievable!!!! I guess some people think that's normal. Not us.
Same. I'm now trying to just stay inside and move as little as possible, turn off all lights, unplug everything, turn off air/heat, and eat canned tuna 3 nights a week. I could work more but why? It would all just go taxes (esp. for OT or hitting a higher bracket) and then be given to illegals who never paid a dime. What's the point?

To be candid...I believe even with 3 rate cuts...so many persons individual finances have been wrecked...so even with the rate cuts there is so much stress on everyone's finances...for instance who wants to buy a home at top level prices...still high interest rates...insurance rates spiraling....also with month over month inflation taking/continues to take a toll....I believe that we are in for a long slog of a gradual downturn....prices to slowly recede while unemployment ticks up. In the UK Heinz Tomato Ketchup was up to £5 a bottle. I stopped buying it, so must have many others. Now everywhere has it at half the price. Manufacturers offer I guess!
Don't stop eating quality products by using toxic products like Canola oil. The products are not hyper inflated. The value of the dollar went down because we paid people to stay home so they didn't catch sniffles.

Its not as much as financial greed but the W.E.F wants to control the world. The richest of the rich decided that they should control everything, manage populations, distribute what foods and medicines they feel appropriate. People get angry believing that this is just something that is happening but Klaus Schwab and his Billionaires at the W.E.F. control many of the worlds political leaders. Biden is a willing follower or they have all the dirt on Biden and he does their bidding to keep his entire family out of prison. The W.E.F can buy and fire any American Mayor, DA, Legislator that they want, Democrats are generally on board but the RINO republicans fall in line. Its time to look at the puppet master lurking behind the curtains who are pulling all of the strings. All it takes are greedy power hungry politicians and the W.E.F.s work is made so much easier. Add in the general ignorance to what is happening along with the willful avoidance where people don't want to see it when its right in front of them in plain sight and you have a situation where the W.E.F. can operate with impunity. Once you realize just how insidious the W.E.F. is to have robbed a planet full of people of their ability to voice their opinions and influence their counties future by voting. If their leadership are WEF puppets then elections are moot and free will is lost.

I’m here in Sarasota, Florida on holiday from the UK. I have been blown away by how expensive food is here. A typical grocery shop here is about double what I’d pay in UK. This is because inflation has dissolved the value of the dollar. Inflation has been created by your government overspending and borrowing money to pay for it.
Yes, inflation is a worldwide phenomenon. The US economy is not great but not as bad. US prices cannot be compared to UK prices because even the salary is not the same. In many places in the US, the minimum wage is about 30-40k while more professional jobs is about 50-150k, and other specialized careers like doctors are making 100-500+k per year. I've heard the salary is much lower in the UK with some examples & therefore the prices are lower, what is salary like over there in your opinion?
BulletProofBrain , corporations control our economy not the government. The inflation is from corporations price gouging the people. Stay in the UK and don't presume to know who's causing inflation in the US.

I live in Santa Barbara and see the house thing everywhere, the prices from 2020-2024 DOUBLED, it’s insane and I don’t understand who are buying these inflated homes.
Such a crackup. They bought the house a couple years ago and now want to flip it for 3 million. They live in an alternate universe where aliens from space come down to buy the place with diamonds.
Yea delusional ! The basic homes are not worth that value! People are destroying the family home market. So short sighted can't see past the greed that is going to make it impossible for there own kids to purchase a home in the future. That's OK though at least there will be a rental option available to them from some Chinese investor 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm 72 and started working, summers, when I was 16....always worked hard. I made some mistakes, wasn't a great money manager and never invested but I always had a fairly nice house. When I see these prices I am just baffled. Even in today's world how many people have got 2 million bucks for a house? I mean, who makes that kind of money? Obviously, there's a minority of people who - somehow - do make enough money to spend this for a house but it still has to be a small percentage of people. Again (I've said it before): Beginning with Reagan we started moving more and more to a shareholder economy and the 10 or 20 percent of people who are actively in the stock market are, soon, gonna own everything. The fulcrum upon which functional capitalism turns is competition and we're wiping out competition in a every way. This whole country has become an out-of-control pyramid scheme.
Not really. The stock market is treacherous, people are always trying to get you to spend more. Change that to people that have big money in the stock market.
Sounds like you're on the wrong side of inflation. The people. In the stock market and investors that have a financial education have simply learned a trick and that is that the government is not going to stop printing money so don't save what governments can print and start saving assets like Homes, stocks and Bitcoin. Remember that what works for the rich will also work for you, even if it's just starting out on a smaller scale. and remember, poverty does not require a plan, but building wealth does. So what's your plan?
They are using most of your property taxes to pay lifetime pensions to retired workers. Cops firefighters Teachers municipal workers judges politicians and so on. They want us to pay for their lifetime free ride. That's what they never tell you. We are broke as a nation because of the pension funds
Tough shit, we need the higher rates. Savers in the US have been screwed out of $trillions in interest due to the .02% interest rates the banks have been paying for 20 years. Time for savers to be rewarded and overleveraged people can eat it. Cheap money is not good for anyone but speculators
Exactly! Interest rates are still too low! To stop inflation, you have to force a recession. It's the only way. Fed Chair Volker knew it. Powell is an idiot. All this talk about a "soft landing" is just wasting time and screwing the middle class and upper middle class with ever higher prices!
If you remember the recession in the 1970’s, you know what to do. Control the grocery. One night a week treat yourself. Cash is king! So is bartering. Swap your skills for what you need. Container gardens, bulk foods, even canning is hugely economical and frankly fun. You’ll appreciate your work in the coldest days of winter. Group purchase is side of beef or other options. Buy close to home, share or gather neighbors list at bulk stores and save gas, fees etc. don’t be afraid to swap stories of savings and other shortcuts with friends. Neighborhood gatherings, church picnics etc are great places to meet people who are in the same boat.
The reason the Fed won't let any banks and CRE fail is because of WHO would lose money. As long as inflation is killing you and me that's fine, but rich connected people losing money is unconscionable.
Inflation is why stocks will continue rising. Who can afford stocks? The rich. Inflation is also why property values continue to rise. THERE WILL BE NO CRASH unless Putin invades or environmental disaster like earthquake or volcano happens. Police state will always be on standby. Poor may eventually revolt.

I saw **countless** homes that desperately needed a new roof or siding repair-and had clearly needed the repairs for quite some time. Vehicles were trusted and in disrepair. Roads and highways for hundreds and hundreds of miles, through numerous States, were in shambles. It was very clear from the zoomed-out perspective that the country is in a state of decay. Trudeau is a favorite son, many European leaders bend the knee, even China and India report back to the W.E.F.

All by design too; it’s been planned for decades.
Most people buying $2M homes aren't financing the whole thing. They've built up equity from previous homes and put that toward the new home.
Dude, then you should invest in the stock market and stop complaining.

Tough shit, we need the higher rates. Savers in the US have been screwed out of $trillions in interest due to the .02% interest rates the banks have been paying for 20 years. Time for savers to be rewarded and overleveraged people can eat it. Cheap money is not good for anyone but speculators
Exactly!!!

Exactly! Interest rates are still too low! To stop inflation, you have to force a recession. It's the only way. Fed Chair Volker knew it. Powell is an idiot. All this talk about a "soft landing" is just wasting time and screwing the middle class and upper middle class with ever higher prices!
I agree 100%
Part of my ridge cap ripped off and i just replaced it myself. One year later and multiple gusts of wind still holding strong. It's pretty simple.
Once they force a digital currency, hoarding cash will do you no good!
