    I agree with #StandUrGroundNFight
    Bose soundlink mini = Indoor use. Hotel rooms, bathrooms, living rooms, condominiums, bedrooms etc... Perfect choice. I have this speaker and it struggles outdoors especially when you try to compensate it with higher volume.
    UE Boom = Outdoor use. Pool area, beaches, garden, parking lots, streets etc... Perfect choice. I've tried this indoor and the boxy sound is quite apparent due to its design of higher mid and high freqs.
    So if you're unable to get both, decide which environment will you use the speaker more.

    I bought the UE boom, and some of my friends have the Bose SL mini. They both sound great but Bose has a better bass. Still, I chose UE boom because I don't feel like I can bring Bose to the beach or to a garden party or to any outdoor activity, it just doesn't look and feel like that. It looks great but it feels like it's for indoor use, like at home, or at a nice office. But the thing is, I don't need a bluetooth speaker at home, the main reason for me to buy this is to use it outdoors, especially at the places that I mentioned above like sandy beaches, or when camping in a forest, or at a garden barbecue party etc. It handles those conditions great.

    Auditioned both in a noisy crowded city store. I started playing a track listened and just walked away as far as I could till the music was no longer audible for each unit.
    I only got about 5 meters from the Bose before I could no longer hear it, however with the UE Boom, I had to walk out the store across the way into another and I could still hear it (one). Up close the both sound great and I'll give the Bose +points for a slightly richer fuller sound but if your going to use this outdoors or in your home while the guy across the street is mowing his lawn (or any other background noise), get the UE.... I bought two of them and when positioned in the right position ( I found corners best) and paired via the app they sound amazing.
    I turned them up at home wandered up the street, I could hear them from two houses away. I also purchased the Blaupunkt Monaco and it's loud and clear, has more bass than both the UE and Bose but it's just a little too large to carry around and is in a different class.

    I would say both of these portables are strides ahead of the competition, but I personally prefer the Bose. Although it doesn't hit as high a range as the UE Boom it has a fuller range. I own both, and I have decided to re-gift the UE. Just my opinion if it helps anyone.

    I was listening to this at my sister's house the other day. She had it playing in the kitchen and I was in their movie room, (2nd floor, other end of their house) and could still clearly hear the Bose Soundlink Mini. I was really impressed by the clarity and qulity I could still hear from so far away.

      The UE Boom has great sound with a battery life that can last over 15 hours. About 7 hours at full volume. I have two and take them everywhere, from work (mainly outdoors) to biking . If your looking for a speaker to sit on a desk get the bose everything else get the boom.

      Mae Braswell great . The bose are ok if you don't need/want it loud. At lower volumes they are top notch get it over half way and the sound tends to distort. Plus it can't be twinned and you can't have a long time away from an outlet. Other then that the bose would of been my pick.

    My wife bought me the UE Boom after going to Best Buy and listening to the young people that work there. We as older folks don't have the sound talents. I did hook it up for Christmas and it was really awesome out on the pool patio area. I kind of like the shape as it stands anywhere and sounds everywhere. I think it seems it would have much more portability used outside the house. I LIKE IT. I liked the video post too. Great job.

    I went with UE Boom. Depending on the size of the space you are using it in, you can use the mobile app to do some simple EQ. I got it for $180 CDN on sale. Now, I am a music guy so I wanted good sound on the road...so I actually bought two. I love the feature to be able to pair them through Bluetooth in the app and you can run them stereo. The sound is amazing as I travel and am in hotel rooms and they easily fit into the front pocket of my travel bag. I listened to the Bose and though it does sound amazing, it was missing some of the higher frequencies that really make the UE Boom shimmer.

    I've gone through about 7 different portable speakers (Thanks yo PC Worlds instant replacement) I've had the UE Boom, Soundlink colour and now have the Soundlink Mini. In my opinion, they're two totally different speakers and are both amazing. The UE's good if you just want volume, but at high volume (which it does with ease) it just doesn't sound great, i was forever trying to get more bass out of it, portable amps (which meant I had to use the aux cable), separate EQ and the UE's EQ. It just doesn't produce a full sound. However, i was stunned with the amount of bass the bose produces, it's truly astonishing, it may not be as loud, but the sound is so much more pleasing and although it doesn't go as loud as the UE, i was never seeking for more volume. The bose is also surprisingly strong, (maybe not as strong as the UE) but it's had quite a few falls, off my desk, off my outside wall, fell out of my bag and actually it still looks new and is fully functional. In my opinion, go with the Bose, it's got more than enough volume to fill an average size living room and it fills it with great sound, and in my opinion, it looks more premium and stay looking premium, unlike the UE that picks up scuffs too easily!

    hmm. I enjoy Bose's more "intense" sound. Very nice warm feelings/good bass. But Logitech offers clear sound. In this case, I would choose Bose since it seems to offer a more permanent satisfaction of sound. But both seem great from this awesome review!

    If you want good sound, get the BOSE soundlink mini. I purchased the UE boom, tried it out and returned it back for a BOSE. The UE boom sounds muffled. Yes, the Bose has a shorter battery, but I'd rather have a shorter time with good sound rather than listening to poor sound longer. The UE boom might have an app and other stuff but if a speaker cannot produce good quality sound, then I think its failed its purpose. The UE boom sounds ok until you hear the BOSE. (In case you are wondering.....I bought the UE boom just because the demo UE booms at the store were not working, I heard the Bose and wanted to give the UE boom a try)

    UE Boom sounds "muffled" compared to Bose Soundlink mini. Basically because underneath the speaker grills in UE Boom there is a layer of material there to insulate the speakers from dirt of water wich greatly supresses sound. You really have to hear them in person, sound quality through videos greatly depresiates clarity . Another thing to remember is you sacrifice sound for "splash resistance" with UE Boom which is no where near wate resistant. Just letting you guys know because I did the test and Bose takes it in sound.

      They know their speaker and that's about it.
      I'm pretty sure that you could fix the higher frequencies with settings, if it had any. It sounds a lot more roomy and I like that a lot. It is why I use my old pc speakers and a subwoofer in my garden. It allows for a much better stereo effect.
      They should really hire someone under the age of 60 to investigate what people would like to buy. I would pay double for the bose if it didn't look like a 1980's alarm clock, was at least water resistant and had an app and a decent equalizer, digital limiter and maximiser, digitally tweakable to my liking of course.
      On top of that I would design it with detachable wireless left and right speakers and a woofer with a dock. I would even go so far as to put in a center speaker in the dock and a quick button to toggle a setting that slightly boosts the ~4kHz range and lower the rest, to enhance speech without having to tweak the equaliser or remember what profile I used before that, just so it's easy to switch from music to a news item and back and have optimal sound for both with just a toggle button.

    • @Philphy
      @Philphy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not their market though unfortunately, they would risk alienating their current customers and undermining their utilitarian/professional image, the closest you can get with bose is a more "modern" sleek looking model like with Sony's products. Bose is and always will be whites, silvers and greys because that is what we come to expect from a majority of their products.

  • @laurikvo

    I bought the UE Boom a few months ago and I've not been disappointed. The battery lasts amazingly long (I used it on houseparty for like 6-7 hours of straight listening with 30-80% volume and after that time it got 70-80% charge left). Also firmware update came some time ago to boost up bass and it really helped. Tweaking EQ also helps a bit to bring more bass. I also needed speaker that had to be rugged so I can carry it with me wherever I go.
    If you want the best sound and bass (and maybe that replaceable battery) choose Bose, otherwise I would not hesitate to buy UE Boom.

    I prefer the Bose. It's very easy to use and a lot more powerful than it looks, even with what was shown in this video. The only thing I don't like about it is that it didn't come with a Auxiliary cord and a carrying case. It's a very delicate device, and it costs almost $30 extra for a color skin that only protects it from "scratches or abrasions", and almost $50 for a travel bag. A lot of the comments that I have seen on this video has really missed a very important factor in the UE Boom. Gamamori says that the UE Boom claims to provide up to 15 hours of talk time, but at the HIGHEST volume, it only lasts up to THREE TO FOUR HOURS. That's AROUND the same amount of time that the Soundlink Mini gets, and it only lasts up to 7 hours. I have the Soundlink Mini, and the longest that it has gone on the highest volume is 3.5 hours. I wish it had some of the features of the UE Boom, such as the app, being able to know exactly how much battery is left, etc., but the Bose is very powerful, and I won't have to worry about having to replace it just because the battery is irreplaceable. THAT'S RIGHT, the UE Boom's battery is not replaceable. This means that you'll have to buy a whole new set of speakers if something happened to that battery. That's a deal breaker for me, so I'm sticking to the Bose.

  • @juskuz111
    @juskuz111 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    WHAT ABOUT THE UE BOOM'S BATTERY???
    I found out that the UE Booms battery is not replaceable and that the company has no real plan of action for replacing the battery once it burns out. So after 2 to 3 years the battery is going to die out and i'll be left with a really expensive brick??? Thats bullshit !!! I dont want to keep buying a new Boom every two years because of the battery! If im going to pay $200 for a luxury speaker (and i did....starting to regret it) i want it to last!!

    basically the UE Boom gives out 360 degree sound
    waterproof and shockproof
    compatible and modern as well as easy to use
    charge lasts up to 15 -17 hours
    not too heavy so is mobile and outdoor loving
    The Bose is none of the above but is great for listening and chilling at home or cafe or music directing only towards you with a spliff maybe as it sounds so damn good.
    both cater for two different occasions
    why not buy both
    one for spliffing and the other for active outdoors (jobs a gooden !)

    I was gearing more towards the UE Boom, but I will be getting the Bose instead. I'm primarily getting one as a desktop speaker. Taking it for travel is only secondary. UE Boom's charging port is at the bottom. Meaning I have to lay it down when it's plugged in to a wall, and that is not its ideal position when turned on. While the Bose can be plugged in as is.

    This test clarifies my choice. I got the UE Boom about a month ago and it's great. The Bose sounds somewhat flat (muffled might be a better word, because I heard a lack of clarity). Depending on the position, you get a reasonably enjoyable amount of bass from the boom (also depending on the song). Love it. Good review.

    I must say that this was a great video. I heard both speakers in BestBuy and the UE Boom sounds great, clearer and louder due to the highs but there is NO lows. The features alone would have me buy it. However, I went with the Bose mini. Great all around sound and good bass for its size. The bass is so good that the housing couldn't even handle it as it jumped off the ledge of my upstairs loaf and fell all the way down the stairs of my house.

    i had the opportunity to test both, i purchased my sound link mini almost a year ago and my buddy got the UE as a gift recently, they both good speakers, i have to admit that the ue boom is def louder but not "clearer", mids are also more pronounced on the ue however i think it lacks the bass and crisp highs as the bose, the ue also does a better job playing out in the open, while bose recommends to place the speaker close to a wall for optimum bass response, i can honestly say you can't go wrong with either just choose whatever fits your needs, i personally value sound quality over "loudness" so i'm keeping the sound link mini for it's bulletproof design and sound quality

    I thought the battery life would get better on the UE boom but I was only getting 5-6 hours or so at 50% volume and barely over 3 near max volume. Nowhere near the claimed 15. Then I got to thinking that I really only listen to music in my work vehicle, so I don't really need all the nice features of the UE Boom. I also wanted to have some Stereo seperation. That made me go all-out and trade up for the BOSE Sound Link III. I decided not to get the more affordable Mini because I need long battery life since I spend many hours a day in my work vehicle.
    It was hella expensive for a portable speaker and made even more expensive when I had to buy the $35 dollar case to protect my purchase. But let me tell you Mr. Gamamori, I have NEVER heard such brilliant, clear, and perfect blend of Base coming out of a small speaker. People have no idea how great the sound of BOSE is until they get it into there home and hear it after some equilizer adjustments. What you hear from the display in a store does not do it any justice. I'll update later if the battery life is close to what's advertised.

    @linusvive8488 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've tried them both and a combination of these two would be the ideal for me!
    The bose bottom and mid range with the open and airy trebles of the UE. The ruggedness of the UE and a Bose like charging dock. The form factor of the UE (to put it in the cup holder when using it in a car without bluetooth) and the build quality of the Bose.
    The sound quality of the UE is amazing on all accounts except bass (wich is a dealbreaker for me), it's really 360 degrees.
    The Bose can be a bit muffled unless you're listening to it from straight ahead. And the sound changes quite a bit if it's standing next to a wall. On the other hand, it's really amazing to hear such a powerful sound from such a small speaker.
    Another speaker to consider is the Cambridge Audio Minx Go, which sounds really good and is very reasonably priced. But it doesn't look as cool as these two!

    i don't know if this was mentioned in the comments, but the Bose Soundlink Mini will NOT perform as a speaker phone if you get an incoming call while listening to music. The UE Boom however, CAN be used as a speaker phone. If its just going to be in your house get the Bose. Bose is extremely high quality audio and everyone knows that. Bose has great bass as well. If you want to bring the speaker with you everywhere, get the UE Boom.

    From the review I feel that UE Boom got the better sound (i.e. similar to surround function). I decided to go for the Boom. But when I arrived at the store, I tried both speakers and Bose got something quite different. So I'm with a Bose now. I guess it's maybe because of the distance from the speakers to your camera and/or the height of the camera while UE Boom was basically "standing" and the Bose was "lying". Either way, thanks for the indepth review, it's a pro one!

    let me add that every review tells you that Bose lacks in treble, but will almost always tell you that the bass is incomparable. These are two very different technologies. Bose uses space to produce sound in great depth despite the size of the actual product. So it sounds like a larger system than it actually is. Other companies use drivers that have a single but loud frequency. Depth is not a factor. I compare this to listening to your music with a loud speaker.

    I am going to get the bose i think, but as far as not having a replaceable battery in the UE boom, i'm sure there will be some videos out there showing you how to replace it if it does wear out in a couple of years, and by then it will be out of warranty so why not tear it apart and change it out? You can probably even upgrade it to a better lithium ion battery for $10 or so.

    I love my UE Boom that I've had for several months now! I also really enjoyed your audio test here. Just to give my opinion: Audio is by its nature very subjective and many factors can effect the sound quality. I have never tried the Bose product, but I love how the UE Boom bluetooth works. The way it makes that bongo sound doesn't just tell you it's on, it tells you it has successfully connected. It also is I think designed to be held (just look at the ads for it!) and to me that's useful.

  • @brettjohnson1874
    @brettjohnson1874 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Note to reviewer, you really shouldn't assume that a manufacturer's statement is false without even attempting to test it. I just bought this 3 days ago and I can assure you the battery lasts much longer than 3 to 4 hours, as your wild guess suggests. I started with a full charge, jammed out at 50-80% (very loud for this speaker!) for about 2 hours before going to bed. I left it playing at around 20% all night while I slept for around 7 hours. In the morning I checked the batter and it was still at 80%. I've been jamming this thing off and all day without charging it and it's still at 30%. This thing is amazing, don't sell a major selling point short by pulling made up data from your bung hole. Just sayin.

    The bass actually ports out of the back of the Soundlink. For this reason I usually have mine placed about 6 inches from a wall as it reflects and amplifies the sound. If you put the mic behind the Bose unit, you'd hear even more bass.
    Ultimately, neither of these speakers are designed to be used for a house party. At night, when everything is quieter and I'm winding down for bed I need only turn the Bose up a couple bumps for rich full sound, even at low volume.

It's a much better PORTABLE speaker. dropped it several times, got it wet, got sand on it at the beach, no issues. it louder, has the perfect amount of battery life, and it gets better with every firmware update (although it still isn't free of glitches).

    Thanks for your excellent review, the best and by far the most comprehensive I've seen. You answered all my questions - the main one being I was worried from reading various reviews that the UE Boom is useless after the battery finally dies. However, I gathered from your comments that I can still use it if it is plugged in to a power source. The UE Boom is on sale and priced A$135 (US$114) at the moment whereas the Bose SL mini is still around A$200. So I'm guessing at this price the UE Boom is a no brainer (?). Planning to get this today. Cheers
