Right away, I can say that as a platinum trophy hunter, it’s worth it for the feeling you get as you feel you’ve achieved something if the game you platinumed was hard
have you done the hollow knight platinum? it requires you to complete the game many times over n over again, and one of those you have to speedrun it under 5 hours... thats basically impossible
A trophy is only satisfying when it's a fun challenge, most are just there to waste your time though. The examples in the video are very good to showcase that.
Euh, That isn't even true tho, Usually like 90% of the effort goes into like main campaign, the rest is often an afterthought, and Plantinum Trophy are an afterthought of an afterthought
I agree completely. Most of the time, trophies show you something that you wouldn't have seen otherwise. And you really feel like you've experienced everything the game has to offer once you get the platinum, or all achievements. I'm an enthusiast of video games, but I understand that not everyone cares about the same things you or I do. It's just a simple pass time for them.
For me trophies are a digital proof of your gaming history , what did you play and to what extent are you playing your games. before the age of trophy hunting and achievements , you could be the best gamer in the world , playing the hardest games and completing them to 100% but no one will know about it other than yourself , now there is a proof for everything and that's why i love trophies. you can also learn about any gamer a lot just by looking at their trophy list , even if they don't hunt for trophies that much , you can still see what kind of games they are playing and if they are completing their games or just playing for a bit and move on to other games. trophies give a lot of info about any gamer and that is one of the big reasons i love them.
yeah man before trophies i've played tone of hard games and no one would know about it lol now everytime i get a hard platinums a lot of people add me on PSN asking for help or sending me messages in forums haha which make me feel great that i've manage to beat the challenge and got that platinum trophy that so many people struggle with.
@@LostInThailand-Me when i make shit up: Like literally, NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR TROPHY'S LOL Why? Well, you can literally buy them, or easily cheat your way to them. It holds 0 value, actually nothing and its certainly not a credential in any way
As someone with 71 platinums. I say it’s worth it as long as it doesn’t ruin games for you. One should only platinum games you enjoy. Edit: I go for platinums like crash bandicoot, souls games, Cuphead, enter the gungeon, fall guys, many cod games I must say, it’s very fun because it makes me experience everything a game offers and I had some of the best experiences in gaming going for platinum with friends
@@szero7429 It’s very easy now actually So many game modes have 1 round or have no loosing rounds, so it’s manageable. Fall guys was so fun for me Because I got it early on with the help of my friends when the game came out A year later Than got it for my cousin when squads came out after many attempts Than a year after or 2, got it with my friend in those easy game modes
I think it symbolizes mastery and a sort of stamp of approval from you, the player. When I platinum a game it's like me saying "this game was so amazing it made me do all this grindy and difficult stuff."
I unlock platinum trophies just because If I really enjoy a game and it's content I do everything that the developer wants you to do and there is nothing more satisfying when hearing that amazing platinum sound
I usually go by this thesis: > Play the game > If I enjoyed the game, attempt to 100% it and get the platinum > If the platinum is not fun/extremely grindy don't bother > If the game is shit but the platinum is easy, again, don't bother I've got 55 platinum trophies over the course of about 15 years, and by far the worst platinum I ever got was Crash Bandicoot 4. Took me months. Don't know why on earth I even bothered.
Being a trophy hunter one very good reason I play and the one of the reason Nick Ar hunts trophies is not only because it's so rewarding but it makes us play the game in ways we otherwise wouldn't have and it gives so much more value to the game. Of course there are tons of games with grindy platinums so I tend to go for games I have heard of, games that I like to play and rarely do I check about the trophies before buying them. Another main thing to point out is that most of the trophy hunters, including myself, play a game of their choice, enjoy it and theeen do we try to platinum it. If it's too tedious we should just drop it and move on. If you are so worried about leaving a game not platinum then you have bugger problems in ur life.
Dude! I haven’t watched you since the 8th grade. I’m now 19 and graduated high school last year with a music major. It’s great to see that you’re still posting videos after all these years! Much love! ❤
It's videos like this why I've started to not like bringing up that i'm a trophy hunter. People just always get the completely wrong idea about it. Yes, to be completely upfront, I'm a trophy hunter. Reaching arbitrary completion benchmarks are something I do on the regular. I also primarily play RPGs. And these are often 50+, 100+, and even 200+ experiences at times. And yes, these are all games I go out of my way to platinum/complete. I do it cause I enjoy it. I'm a semi-completionist by nature so I feel compelled to do so one way or another. I never use it as a means to try to brag or act superior cause at the end of the day, it simply is just a niche hobby inside of another hobby. Like speedrunning, challenge runs, restriction runs, etc. While there are drawbacks, I've genuinely enjoyed playing many games more as a result. Discovering more aspects or content I otherwise would have missed, getting urged to play in different ways, even undergoing challenges that really test my skills and the satisfaction of overcoming them, etc. So that said, of course it's not going to be a method of play everyone will enjoy. Much less have the time or dedication to do so, something most people are better off or should be placing elsewhere. There's nothing wrong with that. Play a game to the limit you feel is most enjoyable and reasonable to you. But at the same time, as mentioned already, I also feel like I can no longer be open about being a trophy hunter or that I try to fully complete games. This sort of activity is seemingly heavily frowned upon now and is often met with dismissal or even outright hostility. I just...want to enjoy games in my own way, why is that treated so offensively?
this is something i started doing this year as someone who mainly used to play live service games only and its the best thing ive ever done . Ive got a list of so many games that i want to play such as batman arkham knight, the bioshock series crash series the halo series and so many more . As far as hard achievements goes there just a huge sense of completion that comes with and makes it all worth
Yes, it gives a massive rush, and if it is a game you love, the feeling is even better. And if the game is hard to platinum, it makes it feel even better. I have two platinum trophies, no mans sky and spider man 2 (i didnt get it for slider man 1 because im not doing the taskmaster challenges)
I personally feel like this as a trophy hunter it helps me justify the purchase of a game because I know I’ll more than likely get every drop of content
Hi Lewis. I myself am a trophy hunter and have been following your current channel as well as your sister channel WumpaLewis. I’d like to answer some of the questions you brought up as to why I trophy hunt. 1. Video games are expensive, so I trophy hunt/100% complete games to get the full mileage out of the games I buy. If I don’t complete or platinum a game, to me it feels like lost money. I mean, yeah, that sounds ridiculous. As long as I have fun (which in most cases I do), then the price of the game shouldn’t matter. But I also 100%/platinum games as a way of thanking the developers of the games for putting all their hard work into making the games we play. 2. Trophy hunting to me is mostly fun imo, but it does have its moments of frustration. Recently I got the platinum to Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier (I don’t recommend this game), but I originally wasn’t going to be able to get the platinum because my game kept crashing in a specific area no matter what, so I had to change the language setting on my PS4 and start the game over just to get the platinum. This highlights some of the issues with trophy hunting, that sometimes you need to do work arounds that you shouldn’t have to do in the first place. 3. I understand the frustration with difficulty related trophies not being available until you unlock harder difficulties. This was most common in the PS3 era. Games like Uncharteds 1-3 didn’t have the Crushing difficulty available at the start because you needed to finish the games on the Hard difficulty first. Same thing with The Last of Us and its Survivor mode. They fixed this on the rereleases on PS4 so that you can stack the trophies more easily. It’s just an unnecessary hassle for trophy hunters. 4. Despite all that, as a trophy hunter, the best part of my hobby is that I have the freedom to choose which games I want to platinum and which ones I don’t. If I want to go for an easy platinum like Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (or Sly Raccoon), then I totally can. If I want to go for a more difficult platinum like Rayman Legends, then I can if I put the effort into it. But if there’s a game I don’t want to platinum, then I just don’t do it. There are actually very few platinums I regret getting (looking at you Knack 1), but there are also very few games I haven’t gotten the platinum to that reside on my list of games to this day. 5. I’ve had my fair share of BS trophy moments and they’re not fun, but I personally feel satisfied/relieved once I finally earn said trophy and move on. To me, trophy hunting has its ups and its downs, but it’s a hobby I’m quite passionate about. Some people don’t want to trophy hunt, and that’s ok too because no one is forcing anyone to do anything. But I have a different sense of value when it comes to the way I play my games. I am EcoFreak, and thank you for listening to my TEDTalk.
As someone who spent months getting the platinum for Fortnite, the feeling of satisfaction when I finally got it was worth it, although I much preferred getting the Dark Souls platinum like you, as other than upgrading the weapons you get most of them naturally. Great video btw.
when we love a game so much, we feel like we want to honor the devs by experiencing everything the game has to offer and platinum trophies make sure that we dont miss anything for the most part, also for some people: they just want to make the most of what they paid for😁
As a guy with 31 platinums, you gotta do it for the right reasons. The reason why I became a trophy hunter is cause I loved a game so much I wanted to go for a platinum and i felt really good about it. You should only platinum you would actually enjoy. A lot of hunters do it for the wrong reasons like rarity. I have Max Payne 3 platinum 100%, it was super hard but I LOVED THE GAME!
I go for platinums for games I really love. If I just can't get enough of them, and there's not a lot left to do i'll try to get the platinum. And it feels really rewarding when you eventually get it. I'm a big ratchet and clank fan for example, so like any other collectible you'd get from something you like, I'd like to get every ratchet and clank platinum. And yes, that sometimes means grinding out some annoying challenge, but that's just a small part of it. Plus the feeling when you get a hard trophy is really good.
I call it : Psychological game theory. And it came from watching my older brother. He didn’t just play games to relax, he played to win. He did everything like that, school, chores, life… but in his games specifically I think it’s not even rewarding to a certain point it’s just a thing these people have to do, “ see it through to the very end” and not many people simply getting through is “ winning”.
I’m not a completionist, but I will always try and go for the platinum/100% in a game I really enjoyed, it’s just a good reason to replay and put more hours into a game I love. I guess it’s like doing the crash platinum trials, not necessary but they’re fun to do in a game you enjoy
A platinum should be for a challenge or something that has secondary meaning to a game, they shouldn't have to be a requirement like they're sought out for.
"they shouldn't have to be a requirement..." And that's when it becomes a problem for some people. Once you start thinking like that, then, that's when it loses its fun, meaning, fulfillment, and joy. It shouldn't be a chore.
I’ve been collecting plats for 3 years and can safely say it is 100% worth it. Not only because it completes the inner completionist I have . But also feels like getting the true experience for a game. But that only works for the games I personally enjoyed. Games like CTR was a fun platinum journey. Games like super meat boy make me wanna through my ps5 out the window.; Overall I enjoy getting plats for games that are fun.
I have 277 and just made a video about my hardest ones and in that video I touch briefly on why I love trophy hunting. It can absolutely lower enjoyment of a game, but I accept that negative in order to appease the completionist in me. Busting ass during a grueling, physical workout isn't fun either, but when it's done, you feel rewarded. Personal fulfillment is good enough for me. As with all things, balance is important and if you are miserable while trophy hunting, it might be time for some self reflection and evaluation of how you want to spend your time. Me, I'll keep grinding platinums.
I read some people here saying like getting the plat is experiencing everything and all but let me tell you, that not the case. Some games requires you to play them 2-3 times or even more just to get a trophy and then you will realize that you completed the game multiple times just for a trophy or to see a different ending which is 1-3 mins cutscene, I could’ve just went and saw that clip in TH-cam. Overall what im saying is I don’t mind grinding and time consumption what really bothers me is playing the game from start to finish over and over again just to see a cutscene or get an item that its too late to use.
EXACTLY! it's very case by case of course but true a good amount of the time. 100%ing a game is fully experiencing a game and it doesn't always correlate to a platinum. Also should clarify 100% as in experiencing all the major main and side content. Then like a "true 100%" would be actually doing everything including unecessary minor stuff like korok seeds in Zelda for example. I personally replayed the 2nd half of Nier replicant for its slightly different endings 3 times and boy it was NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't love Nier automata and it's world so much. Still didn't get the plat tho cause it had like 10 other tedious trophies.
the two main reasons are getting the absolute most out of your money (could call it getting "true" 100%) and bragging rights then again, i barely play rpgs so i dont really have an experience with tedious stuff like this
As a person who loves achievements is kinda this way: we hate that tedious process but we adore when that thing pops up on our screens. And that can kinda really fck up your brain and the way you play games, if you think about it, is kinda an addiction type thing, you hate doing it, but it gives you that little dopamine hit. Me personally, ion just go out and 100% a game because i want them achievements, if you see a complete game on my profile you know that i luv it, and i thinks thats what achievement and trophy hunting should be about
@@dimasguerreiro I just hate when they're trophies for a game with a multiplayer/coop mode that's dead with zero players to matchmake with. That's when I call it quits for the platinum. I don't mind a grind. I did do the 54,000 zombie kills in Dead Rising back in the day after all.
As a platinum trophy hunter I can personally say it gives me a nice feeling and is an enjoyable experience and I can only hope one day I will get the crypt of the necrodancer platinum
This was me with FFX HD too. I beat the game earlier this year, but the grind to complete the Sphere Grid for every character was too much for me. But the worst part is that every now and then I look though my trophy list and I see FFX's staring me in the face and I'm actually tempted by it to go back and grind thinking "it can't be that bad", but then I remember that I spent HOURS that could have been put into other games I've not played yet, been bored out of my mind just grinding and I didn't even complete one of the grids, never mind all 7.
as a very very casual trophy hunter i only go for plats for games that i dont mind going above and beyond for and even then i wont stick with it. i have some on the back burner that i will eventually come back to
I have 71 platinum trophies on my ps account but for the most part it’s games that I’ve really enjoyed so I’ve gone for the 100%. I am currently working on a lot of the call of duty campaigns on the hardest difficulty but black ops 3 might be too much as every hit is a death, 4 missions in over 400 deaths :p Edit: to answer the question at the end, I’d say it is rewarding when it’s a game you’ve truly enjoyed. Completing red dead redemption 2, my favourite game of all time, is one of the most rewarding things I’ve done on any game, especially as I made it my 50th platinum trophy milestone!
I just popped Platinum 147 today for Borderlands Pre Sequel and it doesn’t get old I’ve been 100% and platinum trophies games for the past 14 years and still addicted to it
I'm not a Platinum Trophy Hunter, but I did go for the Platinum on Persona 5 Royal. It did need me to go replaying it twice (maybe even thrice I don't remember fully) and I think its okay to require multiple plays, so long as it has an NG+ that has stuff that carries over or AT LEAST let you skip cutscenes and stuff.
It's hard to explain, but the feeling of going for the platinum for certain games is so relaxing and enjoyable, there's a thrill to it, granted it's not the case for all games and it really depends on the person
I'd say I play in a slightly similar way to you regarding this. I only platinum games I truly enjoy and love and if there are no grindy/bs achievements. Examples for me include Batman arkham series, Need For Speed Heat recently (100% both on steam and PS) and maybe my next one HellDivers 2. In terms of why I go for them in the first place, I'd say it's usually because well designed achievements are given to you for easter eggs that the deves put in so it's nice discovering them or to aid you in exploring all that the game has to offer, and if I love the game I want to do that anyways. Achievements for second playthroughs I only go for, again, on games I truly love. In the case of Arkham Asylum, i finished my first playthrough in 2015, and then came back to the game in 2022 and did the second playthrough + 100% because I loved the game so much. The grindy bit was the combat challenges but I see that as a way of aiming to really master the game mechanics. I outright avoid bothering to get achievements for a game if it has bs achievements like that rope one you showed, if its multiplayer achievements and the servers are dead/inactive and if its a story game that locks you out of achievements past certain points in the story unless I can find ways to get past those locks. Also a little thing I like for fellow multiplatform gamers out there, I like to track on www.metagamerscore.com add me: /profile/24367
that’s why it’s an achievement. if you enjoy the game and done everything in it they are hard challenges you can try and get a trophy for it it’s fun to me
A lot of people have already mentioned the feeling of achievement and the "only platinum games you enjoy" which is all true but for me its also a way to make money last. im a uni student who doesnt have a lot of extra cash to buy videogames so when i do buy one i wanna make it last. Getting the platinum feels like the money i spent was worth it because of the time i spent with the game.
Same as most difficult things you feel accomplished when you achieve that goal and when you look back youll remember the positive stuff from it rather than the negatives
Particularly, in order for me to enjoi a game I'm playing for the first time, I can't think about trophies. Otherwise, I'll spend the entire run thinking about "I gotta do this to get that trophie", "maybe I'll have x trophies when finished" etc. IF, and only IF i enjoy a game and want to complete it, I'll get about 70% of it's trophies. Not all of them, not too little to feel like I didn't enjoy everything to it's fullest, and not enough for me to get to those awful grindy trophies. I feel accomplished, so that's the sweet spot for me.
I find trophy/achievement hunting very fulfilling. I always have since I was little. And it's not about showing off or anything like that, it's about exploring more of the game that one might not have if not for a trophy or achievement highlighting it. And I love challenging myself. I agree, some trophies are just needlessly tedious just for the sake of it. But do you know which kind that I *really* hate? Games that have a tiny multiplayer mode that a trophy expects you to grind the heck out of, but nobody plays online anymore, making it impossible to get the trophy. An old God of War game, Dead Space 3, and Tomb Raider 2013 comes to mind.
For me, if I enjoy a game a huge amount and the achievements aren't just impossibly difficult for the sake of it, I'll do it because it makes me feel like I've mastered the game, if that makes sense?
I got 32 Platinums (on two different accounts), from my experience it depends on the game. If the requirements are balanced, it is worth it. If the requirements are ridiculous, like do near impossible challenges, finish over a dozen different scenarios in long games like Until Dawn, then it's not worth it. But if a Platinum is way too easy, it's not satisfying. For example, getting a Platinum in Unpacking was way too easy it felt Meh, but when doing it in games I enjoy like Persona 5, Just Cause 3, or Infamous: Second Son, not only do I have fun, but also get rewarded for it. However I wouldn't bother if a game asked me to pull some John Wick level of trophies. Sometimes it becomes too difficult it's not fun.
The longest it took me to complete 100% achievements (On steam) was 800h on Sword Art Online: Re Hollow Fragment. I don't regret it because I have no better things to do in life and I love the game. I have currently "platinum'ed" 69 games, and now I'm completing last achievements for Dusk and DRG. The way you want to stay healthy while doing this is going through the game the first time without caring about trophies and only after first playthrough, start completing 100%.
If you genuinely enjoy a game then I think getting platinum is a good way to get the most out of it but as someone who will sometimes go for hard ones I’d say I like going for it because of feeling accomplished and I just like to add to the trophy collection there is something so satisfying about seeing the number of trophies go up and the completion of games Also going for trophies gives me something to do if I’m not sure what I want to play I can just do more on games I’ve already played and still get more from it
Normally I complete the main story but before that I try to complete all the side quests. After completing the side quests and the main story I try any minigames that I might've missed. After playing them for the first time I feel as if I've experienced everything the game has to offer and don't bother with Platinum Trophies unless I feel that it's something doable or easy. For example if there are only 2 or 3 trophies available that are "Kill X amount of enemies" or "Do Y for Z amount of times." I will consider it if it's something reasonable like that because at that point there's no harm in getting the Platinum. But for me if I do all the side quests and the main quest I consider the game finished.
It’s a foam of addiction…Some games have really good trophies list like resident evil games and soulborne games they are the games that got me into trophy hunting at the first place
The new generation is coming and those that have watch you taken the challenge for the people among the community is very special so I hope overtime you get fame for getting the hardest challenges for your community - AshyDomsYT
I have about 45 platinum trophies right now. If I don't like a game or the trophy list is too tedious, I play the game and drop it. I only pursue the platinum in games I really like, or maybe it wasn't great but I finished and had a few trophies to get the platinum. I have about 5 100% completions in Xbox as well. I think some people take it too far by creating separate accounts where every game must be 100% completed and all, but it's not that serious for me. I say go for it in the games you love but it's definitely not a requirement to enjoy a game.
I only tend to go for platinums (or in my case, perfect games, since I play games on Steam primarily) if it’s a game I already know I like a lot and that doesn’t seem to hard. Like I perfected Half-Life 2 and its first episode because HL2 is one of my favourite games of all time, and it doesn’t have too many achievements. The ones it does have are pretty reasonable, like going through Ravenholm using only the Gravity Gun. That level was literally made as a showcase for the Gravgun’s abilities, so doing so is fairly easy and in my opinion actually more fun than doing it normally. There’s also making it across the beach without touching the sand, which might sound like a tall order, but when you realise you spend 90% of that section of the game avoiding the sand anyway, it’s really not hard. Ep1 I did just because it’s essentially more HL2 and really short, meaning it has barely any achievements to speak of. The most well known one is the one you get for beating the game having only fired one bullet. That sounds hard, but given the game’s short length and the versatility of the Gravgun, it’s both fairly easy and really fun (similar to Ravenholm, I’d argue it’s more fun to do it that way). Carrying the gnome all the way through Ep2 though? Fuck that, I’m not doing that.
For me it's just because i'm a collector/completionist. Even if there's not a trophy connected to it, I like to go for all the collectables and challenges in a game. I just love seeing the "144/144 statues found" or "all secret coins collected in every level" or "100% of time trials completed". The playstation trophy system is just that but with every game I like connected. Getting the trophy progress bar to 100% and adding another platinum to the list just rules that game completed in my mind. It's also like a form of respect I give to that game, grinding so it could be amongst the other games that got my platinum stamp of approval.
I only platinum games I particularly enjoy and even then I make sure there aren’t any super grindy trophies. The most recent platinum i did was for Jedi Survivor and the trophies were each very simple trophies that really only encouraged you to interact with every aspect of the game
Sometimes trophies (or platinums by that same metric) can serve as more of an incentive for me to want to play a game, but if I watch a platinum video on a game I’m curious about getting the platinum for and I know it’d be extremely difficult, I just won’t bother and will casually complete the game
I never use to be a trophy hunter but after having my weekly updates on gta online nerfed from the chop shop DLC. Something changed 10 months later 27 platinums including rdr2 gta5 100% including doomsday trophies from a online gamers point of view I would never do this from reasons I can’t explain how good it feels to see all these platinums on games that are challenging crash nitro cart with a stick drift controller. Recently got the platinum for Hogwarts Quidditch champions. Onto infamous second sun. I hunt trophies because I can’t afford to buy a new game every month plus I have a digital console.
Depends on the game really. Some of them I loved going for platinum like the Crash series while some were not ideal that I have like Sonic 06. I do have some I have completed that I regret getting the platinum for, especially the long tedium ones like 10k enemies killed for a trophy when max in one battle is 6... Also some games I just don't even try to platinum like Super Meat Boy or heaven forbid Crypt of the Necrodancer. If you know, you know.
My dad used to grind platinum trophies and he said it was a waste of time and I’ve been recently trying to 100% achievement gta on the Xbox it’s really pointless imo all you do is gain game score and that’s it
I used to care a lot, but now I just play games for the fun of it, I don’t stress myself out about doing some of the things the achievements tell you tbh
I think my favorite kind of Platinums are games like God of War Ragnarok or Spiderman 2018. Beat the game and beat all side quests. It is fun, the side quests are well written that it is fun to go through it. You get 90% of it by the end of the story. I enjoy them in the games I really like like Spiderman 2 or AW2 last year or Bloodborne and Sekiro. JRPGs like FF usually have the worst trophies.
I mostly plat games i realy like because, If i complete a game i physically can not play it again bc it will be boring. Its mostly an excuse to play my fav games again. Im not going to get much enjoyment out of the game if i play it mindlessly but if i have to go for a trophy it feels like im not just wasting my time and im (kind of) achieving something even as little as a trophy. And it looks good on my profile tbh, it feels more neat
As an elden ring player you should understand the most. Just because a task is challenging or tedious doesnt mean you dont enjoy the game youre playing. Its the same as speedrunning unless your like top 30 you dont gain anything even if you are top 30 you only get notoriety. Just because one task in the game is tedious doesnt mean youre gonna hate the game after you completed it. Sometimes the tedious stuff like collectibles is added lore making you appreciate a game even more.
I go for them if they seem changeling and fun. Crash Bandicoot 1-3 were kicking my ass, but I had a lot of fun getting the Platinum trophies. If most of the trophies of a game seem like a grind and waste of time, then I just won't go for it and will just play it normally. For example, GTA 5, it has a trophy for going for all collectibles. To even find them all, you basically need to use a guide and it takes a long time, which doesn't seem fun at all.
Okay I’ll be honest, it’s mostly to just say “oh I got this SUPER hard platinum that almost nobody has!” (Crash 4 and RDR2) but usually the reaction is “okay dude I don’t care.” Personally I really like the test of patience platinum trophies provide.
What started me to get into trophy hunting was Spiderman 2018 it was like a different level of dopamine being unlocked after achieving this but now i have platinum 33 games and the games I had to spend the most time on was Red Dead Redemption 2 and THE FINALS
As someone with 175 Platinums Yes they do feel rewarding if it’s a fun and challenging trophy list. The problem is with something like FF7 Rebirth. Play through once on Normal - Ok Play through the game again Hard - Fine as long as it’s fair (which for the most part Rebirth is except for 3 maybe 4 bosses) Complete all Minigames (most are ok, some are just completely unfair)(Aerith Hard Mode Cactuar Crush I’m looking at you), Complete every area in the game 100%, Complete all Combat Challenges (the last few are just unfair AND they actually just made them harder with a new patch), andComplete a completely unnecessary separate trophy list that only gets you actually 4 Actual Trophies - NO THANKS, I’M GOOD. But yeah, it’s just when it starts getting unfair and unnecessary is when you start questioning why you’re actually doing this.
I think I have 15 platinums and I wouldn’t really say I’m a trophy hunter. I’m not going out of my way to get platinums MOST of the time. games like Minecraft or fall guys basically complete themself, minus a few things you have to actually go for, but they’re so simple that’s it’s definitely worth it. Apart from those though, I usually just have a sudden urge to 100% it if I’m really into it. souls games for example weren’t bad, BECAUSE of the way I already played the games beforehand. I go for EVERY floor item. EVERY boss. I fully clear every single area, top to bottom. so finishing up the platinum isn’t so bad, it’s usually just get all the spells after. Same went for far cry 6. didn’t plan on getting the platinum, but I already was exploring every inch of the map to get rid of the fog, AND I was already opening every single loot chest and was already gonna do all the side quests, cuz that’s just how I play. so I had very few things to go after once I was done my initial playthrough. There are tons of games that are an immediate “not getting that plat” because some of the achievements are so bs. super meat boy? helllll no. binding of Isaac rebirth? I’d love to, but it’s so rng in some areas, and requires you to be able to no hit the game too so… hellll no to that too. All in all, I think they’re worth going for when the time is right, and ONLY then. they can feel like a chore, and potentially ruin games for you, annnd if you’re only playing games to get plats, you’re gonna beat yourself up over so many stupid little things. some people are WAYYY too concerned about 100%-ing every single game they play and it’s just not worth the mental strain I’d imagine.
I have 26 platinum trophies. But even if I like the game I'm playing I put my foot down if a trophy list seems too tedious, which in turn makes the ones I do get still feel genuinely satisfying. For example I love Hi-Fi Rush but I'll be damned if I play through the game all S ranks *five times*
If I play a game and enjoy it and see that it has an easy plat that I can do somewhat quickly then ill usually go for it. Otherwise its only games that I really love as I see it like a mark of appreciation if that makes sense.
I go for 100%s only on the games I enjoy, and yes i think they're rewarding. You really get your money's worth when you put the time in to platinum/100%.If there's a game I enjoy that has an annoying 100% I'd try to go for it but if I don't enjoy the journey towards it I either put it off for later or just give up. Achievement hunting should be fun, you shouldn't wait for a game just to finish it, you play a game to enjoy it not for it sit pretty with a "100%" beside it.
For me it really depends on the games i've platinum'd. As you've said, there are really, really, really shity trophies out there. But for me, it's the Experience as a whole. For example, let's take hollow knight. The 5th Pantheon is an absolute brutal challenge. But noticing you step by step improve your skills and at the end finally beating that challenge, that's a really good feeling at least for myself 😅 There are games, where the platinum makes the games even better (Sea of Stars). Where you get rewarded with really cool things for taking it on. But as i said before. It just depends on ths game. It's also helpful for me at least, to have this "goal" in front of me. Before i've started hunting platinums, i've struggled even finishing a game in the first place. Now i find myself discovering whole new genres becaus of it. It's often a mixed bag, when you hit a really bad trophylist, but out of my 162 platinums i find maybe 15 where really shit. For the rest i either don't mind them or i really enjoyed my time with it.
I have 322 Platinum trophies. I only go for the ones in games I like. I've done a fair amount of difficult/grindy things for trophies but it's because I liked the game enough to go for that. I don't platinum every game. I think that's unhealthy and you'll end up enjoying and dreading what trophies and games are supposed to be... FUN. I've always been a completionist starting on PS1/PS2 and trophies are just extra dopamine hits on something I was already doing. FYI none of my platinums are the Pigeon P's and all that crap that gets people hundreds of easy platinums. I've done easy platinums but never because I didn't enjoy the game itself.
I have 40 plats and I started during the lock down and I get it the frustration over the years over certain trophies so for me if I think I'm getting so frustrated at one trophy I'll put the game in the "backlog" now and maybe come back to it. I have only gotten 3 plats this year many have gone into the "backlog" we will see how many I end up going back to life is too short to be playing something I don't enjoy but i do love the satisfaction of getting a plat the crash team racing plat is still my proudest platinum to this day
Crash team racing your proudest platinum? You literally didnt even have to do the hard parts of the game for that one lmao. It was a joke in difficulty
I don't much mess with them. I've only 100%ed two games in terms of trophies / achievements (Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair and Banjo Kazooie). They don't bother me much though I will say the existence of trophies morphs what it means to play a game considering how obtrusive they are.
Usually I only try and 100% a games achievements if its A, pretty easy or B a game I really want to have 100% on and be something I'm "proud". Recently got 100% on Dark Souls 3 and my god the covenant stuff was some of the most mind numbing farming I have ever done, and this is coming from a guy whos played warframe and destiny. I probably spent 10 hours just doing the covenant stuff which consisted of killing the same enemies over and over hoping for an item to drop. But with that said I really like dark souls 3 and having all the achievements is something that I find cool and therefore makes it worth it. idk I dont do it for everygame, some I just enjoy and drop
The more bugged trophies I come up against the less I feel it's worth it. Granblue Fantasy Versus was the last attempt that wouldn't pop a certain trophy making the experience feel sour.
100%ing games can be a nightmare for sure. I do it sparingly, usually for games I love that don't have crazy requirements. So far I've 100% Lego Star Wars and Bugsnax, almost done with the achievements for fallout new vegas. I'd like to do it more often but it's usually such a timesink it's not usually worth it
I currently have 17 platinum trophies but I only really care to platinum easy games that don’t require me to replay the game or ones that are grindy. I mostly platinum Platformers since I like to get 100% on them and most of the trophies you unlock by just playing the game with a few requiring you to do a few specific things. The hardest one I’ve probably did was Cuphead but I love that game I also got all the achievement for it on Xbox but that will probably be the hardest game I care to get them all for
they take advantage of completionists aka the once who need to unlock and get everything in a game I personally do complete some games 100%, but only select games like I gotten Platinum trophy on Spider-Man (PS4 - before the DLC), CTR Nitro-Fueled, Sonic Frontiers, Sly 1 and Sly 2 and I only 100% completed some Switch games, like: Mario Odyssey, Mario Wonder, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Princess Peach Showtime, Pikmin 4 and some games here and there, like indie games (like the Shantae games) or 3rd party games
I was quite into trophies at one point, I've never had many platinums. I think I have about 30 something plats at the moment. Regardless, I started getting quite bored of actually collecting them after a while. Once you've got a certain amount of them, it just feels like "what's the point?". I platinumed Horizon Zero Dawn and had to ask myself when I finished why I even bothered. The game was really boring to play, but the story was genuinely quite interesting. So it kinda goes back to the comments shown during the video, where people weren't enjoying their experience. I kinda went through that myself. I've definitely had fun with certain games, when I got the platinum for them, but I've got to the stage where they ain't really that fun to collect anymore. I always thought of them like stickers you collect, or trading cards, since they all have their own mini designs to them. So that was kind of part of it too. Nowadays though, I don't feel any sense of accomplishment, reward or anything like that if I do get one. After 30, like I said, they lose their charm a little bit and feel pretty pointless. They're all the same in some kind of weird way to me.
Around a decade ago I would consider myself a platinum hunter, but games with insane trophy requirements (like FF9 in your case for example) made me realize how complete BS time wasters they can be. Only platinums I go for now are easy ones AND for games that I enjoy, for example FF strangers of paradise or CTR NF. I also skip more than one playthrough trophies like FF16's, I liked the game but I have a backlog of games I wanna get to instead haha.
Right away, I can say that as a platinum trophy hunter, it’s worth it for the feeling you get as you feel you’ve achieved something if the game you platinumed was hard
Oh also, Crash 4 or Red Dead 2 were probably my favourites
have you done the hollow knight platinum? it requires you to complete the game many times over n over again, and one of those you have to speedrun it under 5 hours... thats basically impossible
Watch the video?
A trophy is only satisfying when it's a fun challenge, most are just there to waste your time though. The examples in the video are very good to showcase that.
@@ItsDume Red Dead is the worst plat I've ever done by far
It makes me feel like i got the full completed experience when 100% achievements is achieved.
Euh, That isn't even true tho, Usually like 90% of the effort goes into like main campaign, the rest is often an afterthought, and Plantinum Trophy are an afterthought of an afterthought
@@GrizzlyGamingTH-cam for most games yeah but i could name quite a few i enjoyed 100% a lot
Buying dlc is the worst part of that for the full 100% beyond the plat trophy
@@ogataisshinsai8354 not wrong at all, but sometimes the game is so fun you have no problem buying extra content
This is exactly why i love trophies.
yeah man before trophies i've played tone of hard games and no one would know about it lol
now everytime i get a hard platinums a lot of people add me on PSN asking for help or sending me messages in forums haha
which make me feel great that i've manage to beat the challenge and got that platinum trophy that so many people struggle with.
@@LostInThailand-Me when i make shit up:
Like literally, NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR TROPHY'S LOL
Why? Well, you can literally buy them, or easily cheat your way to them. It holds 0 value, actually nothing and its certainly not a credential in any way
As someone with 71 platinums.
I say it’s worth it as long as it doesn’t ruin games for you. One should only platinum games you enjoy.
Edit: I go for platinums like crash bandicoot, souls games, Cuphead, enter the gungeon, fall guys, many cod games
I must say, it’s very fun because it makes me experience everything a game offers and I had some of the best experiences in gaming going for platinum with friends
Totally agree
Fall Guys "infallible" was total garbage, but it was a long time since I'd gotten it so maybe it's actually possible now
@@szero7429
It’s very easy now actually
So many game modes have 1 round or have no loosing rounds, so it’s manageable.
Fall guys was so fun for me
Because I got it early on with the help of my friends when the game came out
A year later
Than got it for my cousin when squads came out after many attempts
Than a year after or 2, got it with my friend in those easy game modes
Dude, I just got my platinum 69 yesterday, Scarlet Nexus. Also, nice.
I think it symbolizes mastery and a sort of stamp of approval from you, the player. When I platinum a game it's like me saying "this game was so amazing it made me do all this grindy and difficult stuff."
Ya but the truth is the only person who actually cares about that stamp is you.
I unlock platinum trophies just because If I really enjoy a game and it's content I do everything that the developer wants you to do and there is nothing more satisfying when hearing that amazing platinum sound
Little Big Planet... Isn't that a very tough platinum? I'm remembering something about it from more than a decade ago.
I usually go by this thesis:
> Play the game
> If I enjoyed the game, attempt to 100% it and get the platinum
> If the platinum is not fun/extremely grindy don't bother
> If the game is shit but the platinum is easy, again, don't bother
I've got 55 platinum trophies over the course of about 15 years, and by far the worst platinum I ever got was Crash Bandicoot 4.
Yeah that’s what I do as well
I’m not sure how I feel about being called a gay myrrh
@@Fxrrxt2xshouldn’t be easy either
I was probably going to replay the game multiple times on harder and harder difficulties anyway 😅
You'd... have to enjoy the game, though. Obviously.
@@tinyninja7716 The flower trophy and weapon grinding can go to hell, otherwise still an amazing game
the two main reasons are getting the absolute most out of your money (could call it getting "true" 100%) and bragging rights
then again, i barely play rpgs so i dont really have an experience with tedious stuff like this
As a person who loves achievements is kinda this way: we hate that tedious process but we adore when that thing pops up on our screens. And that can kinda really fck up your brain and the way you play games, if you think about it, is kinda an addiction type thing, you hate doing it, but it gives you that little dopamine hit.
Me personally, ion just go out and 100% a game because i want them achievements, if you see a complete game on my profile you know that i luv it, and i thinks thats what achievement and trophy hunting should be about
I don't even hate doing it. I love it.
@@Fxrrxt2x you'll find some game where you hate it, i promise
But the worst part is that every now and then I look though my trophy list and I see FFX's staring me in the face and I'm actually tempted by it to go back and grind thinking "it can't be that bad", but then I remember that I spent HOURS that could have been put into other games I've not played yet, been bored out of my mind just grinding and I didn't even complete one of the grids, never mind all 7.
as a very very casual trophy hunter i only go for plats for games that i dont mind going above and beyond for and even then i wont stick with it. i have some on the back burner that i will eventually come back to
i love how you still keep your escence since the very beginning, this video gave me like 2019 vibes, lov u polar ♥
I have 71 platinum trophies on my ps account but for the most part it’s games that I’ve really enjoyed so I’ve gone for the 100%.
I am currently working on a lot of the call of duty campaigns on the hardest difficulty but black ops 3 might be too much as every hit is a death, 4 missions in over 400 deaths :p
Edit: to answer the question at the end, I’d say it is rewarding when it’s a game you’ve truly enjoyed. Completing red dead redemption 2, my favourite game of all time, is one of the most rewarding things I’ve done on any game, especially as I made it my 50th platinum trophy milestone!
10:00 - That Final Fantasy X trophy is so annoying 🤣 The dodge lightning one as well. It was my fav game of all time, so I needed it.
Also a little thing I like for fellow multiplatform gamers out there, I like to track on www.metagamerscore.com
add me: /profile/24367
that’s why it’s an achievement. if you enjoy the game and done everything in it they are hard challenges you can try and get a trophy for it it’s fun to me
A similar video is GradeAUnderA on trophies. How he mentions that trophies are just given for little effort and should be considered a challenge.
Yeah that’s pretty much the same with me. I only go for the platinum if I really enjoyed the game and don’t want to drop it quite yet
As a platinum trophy hunter myself, I can confirm I go for the platinums because I’m a masochist.
The way you want to stay healthy while doing this is going through the game the first time without caring about trophies and only after first playthrough, start completing 100%.
usually the biggest flex are just overall hard trophiues bc it proves you did it, but platinums itself are just a 100% indicator
I do it for the love of the grind 😤😤😤
Agreed about the BS trophies 100%
If you genuinely enjoy a game then I think getting platinum is a good way to get the most out of it but as someone who will sometimes go for hard ones I’d say I like going for it because of feeling accomplished and I just like to add to the trophy collection there is something so satisfying about seeing the number of trophies go up and the completion of games
Also going for trophies gives me something to do if I’m not sure what I want to play I can just do more on games I’ve already played and still get more from it
Normally I complete the main story but before that I try to complete all the side quests.
It’s all about overcoming something however, it’s got to be a good journey which a lot of games get wrong these days
I liked getting the Platinum for Death's Door. I've been playing Kill it with Fire the last month or so, might go for Plat as well.
Always nice to see polar upload
I got 132 now and... no they are not. If a platinum makes you hate the game no... Stick to games you really really love.
My dad used to grind platinum trophies and he said it was a waste of time and I’ve been recently trying to 100% achievement gta on the Xbox it’s really pointless imo all you do is gain game score and that’s it
Congratulations for Final Fantasy 9 platinum!🎉
I just love platinum trophies it’s fun
As a Trophy Hunter, for me I just love the satisfaction feeling of 100% a game
Okay I’ll be honest, it’s mostly to just say “oh I got this SUPER hard platinum that almost nobody has!” (Crash 4 and RDR2) but usually the reaction is “okay dude I don’t care.” Personally I really like the test of patience platinum trophies provide.
What started me to get into trophy hunting was Spiderman 2018 it was like a different level of dopamine being unlocked after achieving this but now i have platinum 33 games and the games I had to spend the most time on was Red Dead Redemption 2 and THE FINALS
As someone with 175 Platinums
Yes they do feel rewarding if it’s a fun and challenging trophy list.
The problem is with something like FF7 Rebirth.
Play through once on Normal - Ok
Play through the game again Hard - Fine as long as it’s fair (which for the most part Rebirth is except for 3 maybe 4 bosses)
Complete all Minigames (most are ok, some are just completely unfair)(Aerith Hard Mode Cactuar Crush I’m looking at you), Complete every area in the game 100%, Complete all Combat Challenges (the last few are just unfair AND they actually just made them harder with a new patch), andComplete a completely unnecessary separate trophy list that only gets you actually 4 Actual Trophies - NO THANKS, I’M GOOD.
I only go for platinums that are within reach, that may only require a few extra challenges or I go for fun ones of which are mainly platformers.
I am a trophy hunter, and I love getting Platinum Trophies! 😍 I am a completionist gamer though, I can see why people aren't interested in them.
Some people enjoy the challenge itself, the trophy just proves you completed it.
I was a trophy hunter a little while ago and I think I have about 80 now. I tried to go for the platinum in hi fi rush and I couldn't be bothered
Getting Platinum Trophies in Crash Bandicoot 4 and Rumble was hell
For me it really depends on the games i've platinum'd.
As you've said, there are really, really, really shity trophies out there.
But for me, it's the Experience as a whole.
For example, let's take hollow knight.
The 5th Pantheon is an absolute brutal challenge. But noticing you step by step improve your skills and at the end finally beating that challenge, that's a really good feeling at least for myself 😅
There are games, where the platinum makes the games even better (Sea of Stars).
Ghost of Tsushima and Max Payne 3 are the only 2 games I have played where I had a genuine good time getting platinum.
They don't bother me much though I will say the existence of trophies morphs what it means to play a game considering how obtrusive they are.
lewis you have to make a video on memes of april this month has been amazing
Usually I only try and 100% a games achievements if its A, pretty easy or B a game I really want to have 100% on and be something I'm "proud". Recently got 100% on Dark Souls 3 and my god the covenant stuff was some of the most mind numbing farming I have ever done, and this is coming from a guy whos played warframe and destiny. I probably spent 10 hours just doing the covenant stuff which consisted of killing the same enemies over and over hoping for an item to drop. But with that said I really like dark souls 3 and having all the achievements is something that I find cool and therefore makes it worth it. idk I dont do it for everygame, some I just enjoy and drop
it is always important to note that sometimes developers hate you
I expected Louis to have at least 10 Platinum trophies.
The more you know.
Not been here in years and crash bandicoot is on the same place. Nice!
The hardest one I’ve probably did was Cuphead but I love that game I also got all the achievement for it on Xbox but that will probably be the hardest game I care to get them all for
they take advantage of completionists
aka the once who need to unlock and get everything in a game
I personally do complete some games 100%, but only select games
like I gotten Platinum trophy on Spider-Man (PS4 - before the DLC), CTR Nitro-Fueled, Sonic Frontiers, Sly 1 and Sly 2
and I only 100% completed some Switch games, like: Mario Odyssey, Mario Wonder, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Princess Peach Showtime, Pikmin 4 and some games here and there, like indie games (like the Shantae games) or 3rd party games
They're probably just not for you anymore. Hopefully gaming itself isn't next.
