As a kid in the animated movie I’d didn’t understand why Dimitri had a crooked nose but now i remember that he got hit in the face with the butt of a gun
Don Bluth also said in a clip about how to draw Dimitri that they didn't want him to be tooo handsome so they put the bump in his nose 😂idk if it worked as I had a big crush as kid
the way the performers make it look so natural is really impressive too! a hectic scene like this isn't an easy thing to pull off but they did so wonderfully
Ditching Rasputin was the best decision that led to every other great decision in this play. The songwriters who worked on the movie and then made this HATED Rasputin and the whole idea of putting supernatural elements in a story that didn't need it. They didn't even write In The Dark Of The Night, instead handing that assignment to one of the Bat Out Of Hell guys. You can FEEL the millstone being lifted from this story as they allow themselves to tell this story as it needs to be told

You didn't think they're was a live story going on until like a bunch through the second act. It could be a number of things, an off day, tired, I think they were almost at the end of their stay, 🤷♀️ just a bummer. I honestly in ours thought she had more chemistry with gleb. So I wasn't too see it again for contrast!
And if you watch the backstage vlogs, their friendship is absolutely adorable! And Derek and Christy had done shows together before this, so it makes sense that they made such a great Dmitri and Anya!

all three of them are fantastic but my eyes are particularly drawn to the actor playing vlad-- he has great energy, and he ain't bad to look at either, haha. seriously though, they're all very talented and have wonderful chemistry onstage! i wish this musical had gotten off the ground a bit more, it's a shame things didn't really work out. :( in a perfect world we'd have multiple stage musicals based after don bluth movies...god that'd be so cool

This was my absolute favorite movie growing up. I still watch it. My sisters and I used to watch it all the time. My nephew and his chorus are singing Once Upon A December for a concert and I am excited! This is one of my favorite songs from the movie.

To this day, I don't know how. When Anya moves the gloves, man that must have been debated forever. Mr. Boyle, the director and stagecraft teacher at Sumner High School, debated with Rochelle and Ian Beck and Ian Russell on where to put the jacket in one scene. I had to turn off the spot, it took so long. 😂

This is the only thing I've seen of the musical. I've only one complaint, which would be that I don't like how they make her seem weak or just extremely frustrated, otherwise they did really good. I like almost everything else.
I think they changed it for the musical to emphasize how much time has passed. Its a looong trip to Paris and poor Anya is being bombarded with so much new information, so it makes sense that she'd sometimes be enthusiastic and excited, and other times be frustrated and burned out.
