Drew Sarich bringing Ursula back to the drag queen roots that inspired the design and character is just absolutely divine!
Devine. I get it lol
Divine indeed!
Drag queens are an expression of other influences in the first place! You’ve made it circular.
I see what you did there 😏
Punny!!
The orchestra at the beginning also deserve a shout-out.
They hardly ever get the recognition they deserve!
@@pamelawilliams3144 My nasty magic is used it on behalf of the miserable, lonely and depressed.😇 I'll pay the toll for the poor unfortunate souls.
Fue la mejor parte ❤
Oboe/Basoon section super underrated
Im obsessed with this version. That "yasss" and "just your voice" was just perfection
nailed it! As amazing as the original.
+ "Yass Indeed!"
like SHOULD BE URSULA in the Movies 😍😍😍
Same here😂 obsessed😊
"JUST YOUR VOICE"...
"How many times have you replayed the laugh part?"
"Yes."
its been a yaer and ive been re watching this in between for some good fun singing.... just soooo good...
35 times... So far....💙💛❤️
The fact that he kept on character the whole time even after entering is SOOOO perfect!
Wdym with after entering?
@@vocalsvideos458 after exiting* (and entering back), sorry, my dyslexia gets the best of me every time, ehe.
What I am referring is that when he finished the main performance he actually kept performing while still in character (tooth cleaning thing/saluting in respect to the orchestra director for the coordinated successful delivery of the number/the camaraderie display of playfulness between artists when he touched the bald spot of one of the orchestra's musicians/ and then coming back to stage just for the crowd STILL on character very comfortably). The original Disney classic song and this performance are both so short yet extremely loaded with carefully and masterful crafted mannerisms and hints, that refer their inspiration sources so brilliantly that it shows just how much this performer in particular prepared for it, to the point of allowing himself to make use of otherwise almost always just common dead stage time in between number's transitions efficiently just for the public's pleasure after such an experience delivered. Just... too good, thank Poseidon it was recorder nicely as it was for future enjoy
@@FelixMomentvm U'r so right!
They teach performers to STAY in character until your public can't see you anymore. That's like first rule of performing.
He’s not acting.
He spends his life grooming children into transsexualism and permanent surgical body mutilations.
And society applauds it.
The lady at 1:33 is like "OMG they called me pathetic! Such an honour! Yay!" Absolutely puppy-eyed and I am living for it
He’s brilliant can’t stop watching him bravo ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
ALso I get Kristin Chenoweth vibes, with the vein in the middle of her front also!
@@mikakui don't know about her but Bradley Cooper is definitely in there
If he were to call me pathetic while singing that song, I would also fell honor too 😂
i felt her giggling and kicking her feet in this mind
It's weird. Sometimes the Algorithm gives you crud and, other times, it gives you gifts like this. This is a GREAT performance.
03:06 "Won't cost much: just your voice!!!" Priceless!
right?! I got goosebumps
Wow! One of the few people performing this song that captures the essence of the original. Pat Carrol done proud! 😍😍
Check out this performance then! th-cam.com/video/HB-tX827vw4/w-d-xo.html
Both Pat Carrol and Divine!!
I don't know how everyone in the audience is not watching this perfomance with a big goofy grin on their faces! This man is bringing The Little Mermaid to life right before your eyes! What a joy to behold! You can tell from the very first evil laugh that this was gonna be good!
It seems to me that they ARE having a big groofy grin 😂 Check again

Probably from shock and admire
本当!最初の笑い声からして完璧にアスラー💯💮
that, or just jaw dropped XD like the lady at 3:27
The charisma and ominous temptation is pure Ursula. Well done Drew.
Progressives demand kids be exposed to “ominous temptation” by drag queens.
@@gabrielsyme4180 no one is saying that. The comment called him that becuase that's how Ursula is supposed to be. They're not saying that all drag queens are like that. Drag Queens are usually guys in makeup and costumes putting on a show, performers. They aren't evil witches trying to turn your children gay, beucase firstly, drag shows are usually for adults so no children are gonna be there. If there is kids there, that's the parents fault and not the drag queen. The only time kids would interact with drag Queens is in drag queen story hours at libraries or something, which is them acting kid friendly and reading them books. Nothing more. Second, you can't turn gay, just like you can't turn straight. Also, if you don't mind women in fancy costumes and makeup why is men in the same costumes in makeup suddenly wrong?
the two guys @01:08 and the lady at @01:31 in the audience truly appreciate this performance. I love their reaction!
The lady was "Missy May" an Austrian singer! th-cam.com/video/wBuxt08SV88/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1
Who are they?
the woman's reaction was so cute
Bradley Cooper@@eliyah4287
@@eliyah4287I mean...kind of looks like Bradley Cooper and Katie Couric, respectively. Doesn't it?
This is perfection! He got the essence of Ursula. Those small nuances he did was soooo good. Plus his voice is amazing.
the "yeah I do" is soooo surprisingly adorable
The "just your voice" was perfection!
Literally step on me. It hasn't lost its spark after watching it 500 times.
Shivers!! I got such shivers! That was amazing!
I've never heard of this man, but wow. And the power in that voice is amazing ..
He's done a lot of American and Germanic (mostly in Germany) musicals. He's great here, he also did a great job as Armand in Lestat (also understudied Lestat) and Quasimodo in Der Glöckner von Notre Dame. His least suited role, I think, was Count Krolock in Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires -- just really needs a baritone or darker tenor). Fantastic actor, but quite a light voice for some roles he's been cast in.
@@IngenuousSoprano I love his Krolock, and his Judas as well. Not keen on his Dracula, though.
@@anwynoakenshield really? I don't like his Krolock or Dracula for the same reason: to light a timbre, they really need a darker color.
Love him as Armand and Lestat, though!
Edit: Mark Seibert is the only tenor I've heard really pull off Krolock. His vocal color is probably the lightest I would go for that role. Even then, I'm not sure he could do Drac.
@@IngenuousSoprano Yeah, a lot of folks like baritones for Krolock, but Drew is my favorite. Though Steve was amazing and Ivan is great as well.
I like Drew's Armand but not so much his Lestat.
@@anwynoakenshield He was the sexiest Graf .He turned vampire parody into pure emotion. And he is a perfectionist Virgo , like myself.❤
That "Just your voice." Just saved my life.
His dress is fabulous! He truly sang it like the classic original. I love his expression when he was finished
😉💅🏼
He completely embodied the character, the change in tone when he says “just your voice” was AMAZING
So many versions of this, including in the Broadway version of TLM, don't really get what imo makes this character compelling - that yeah, it's 'problematic' for lack of a better word, but Ursula NEEDS to read some form of fat or queer or older, or all three, and absolutely SLAY in being those things while also being sinister and clever. That's what makes her awesome. Bringing it back to drag with this performance nails it. I didn't even realize Drew Sarich isn't a regular drag performer until I looked up his other work, he has the perfect energy here.
I completely disagree, Sherie Rene Scott performed the role wonderfully and didn’t have to be fat or gay.
@@benjaminfoster7560 she's a wonderfully talented performer and she did a different version of the character that worked well for her and matched the way the Broadway show was written. But that character never felt like Ursula to me, it felt like someone else. That was my problem with a lot of the Broadway version though, all of those performers are amazing but it never felt like The Little Mermaid to me, even a reimagined version.
th-cam.com/video/zGN2FGtBzh8/w-d-xo.html
tbh I think Rachel bloom did a great job here, it's a little bit less serious but annoyed customer service middle schooler fits Ursula perfectly.... she's been serving these poor unfortunate souls for millennia and has a real mean streak synonymous with a middle schooler 😂
@@tweetybaby1100 oh I LOVE this, I'm thinking of this version as Ursula's bratty niece. (And then I realized that Ursula's already got a bratty niece, she's got seven of them. This one just joined the wrong family business, I guess.)
He is one of the best Musical perfomers imo
I was losing my mind at this performance. He was so good!
HE ATE THAT
THE FIRST GUY ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE
The SASS of it all!!! I just love his/her confidence. One of the best live performances of this song. Hands down.
He's a him. Drew Sarich. He does musical theater - mostly in Austria.
*he
i think he is actually gay so she
not bring rude
@@nero_Secre1 the pronoun is based on gender identity, not sexual orientation. So if he is gay, he is still a he, because being gay is a sexual orientation.
Does anyone know who orchestrated this? Oh my jeez it's glorious.
This was composed by Alan Menken and at this concert orchestrated by Michael Kosarin, who has arranged basically all of Alan Menkens work on the animated movies and many Broadway Adaptions together with him. They have been working together for 30 years now and it really shows here! Of course, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is internationally reknown for being awesome aswell. :)
❤️
MY INITIALLLL THOUGHTSSSSSSS
@@yannick25 The original orchestrations, much of which survive into this arrangement, were done by Thomas Pasatieri. In contrast to Kosarin and Menken's incredible partnership, Menken and Pasatieri never collaborated again after Little Mermaid.
th-cam.com/video/2UmwgZ9pH9A/w-d-xo.html
that snigger in the beginning... just. perfection.
this crowd didn't deserve Drew. Wow that performance was surreal! Those nuances, the sass, the intention on every lyric. AMAZING!!!
They are in a theatre. You are not supposed to make any sound in a theatre. It is a rule
I mean he got the loudest ovations that evening - they definitely appreciated that performance.
Viewers showed the appreciation very well by buying expensive concert tickets. It's already more than enough
@@zenitsuseventhformand escorted out of the building for being tacky.
@@hewpme Loved that response! 😁
He's absolutely slaying the look and performance
Drew Sarich is so versatile, sparkling, spontanous and emotional - always a fascination for my fortunate musical soul since Hunchback in Berlin. He always surprises me totally by being this extra talented. And I like him for being such a nice person. Thank you for sharing
I love absolutely everything about this performance. I will highlight the things that I like:
0:50 The quick camera turnaround, followed by a sinister laugh reminiscent of Ursula. Perfect intro to start the song with because it instantly sets the mood.
It's like she couldn't help but laugh at the thought of how she was about to manipulate Ariel into getting what she wanted.
0:56 "I admit that in the past I've been a nasty," and "They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch." Love this part of the song in general, but she executed it very well.
1:08 The fanboy who sees his childhood hero come to life.
1:30 The fangirl smiles in agreement when she hears that she and others have been called pathetic.
1:42 I love how sassy "YES INDEEDDD!" sounds.
3:06 When she turns her head and says "JUST YOUR VOICE," it looks and sounds so evil. It's almost as if the real Ursula got revealed for a second.
3:30 Perfect ending.
3:55 I take that back, this is the perfect ending.
This is now my favorite version of this song. Even better than the original.
OMG the 1:30 part so true :D
*he…he’s an actor, not a drag queen
@@MeryKeit Drag is a type of performance art. Those who drag are putting on a character, and the pronouns I used are a part of that character. You also gave yourself a thumbs up, as I instantly saw your post after you posted it, good for you.
@@Ventiskie I cant agree more with that tickling of the head XD
Had the chance to attend this show .... oooh yesssss, Drew is just brilliant, extraordinary and kinda out of this universe!
Love this lady's reaction 1:31
You had me at "True?? Yasssssss!"
Drew Sarich just literally nailed the Ursula role with both the drag outfit and that powerful voice! Bravo Drew! 👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤
The head movements of the flute player at 0:14 are great.
I miss playing in a big ensemble. Getting swept away while being _part_ of the music is amazing.
This song was and still is one of my favorite numbers since The Little Mermaid came out in 1989. I was a kid and even though I was fascinated by the octopus witch Ursula, I felt there is something quite not right, something missing? or something awkward about the character. Now I have realized. Ursula shouldn't have been just a female witch. It just doesn't add up. This clip made everything right and perfect. It brought out the hidden layer of the witch. This is my perfect Ursula. Thank you!
IIRC her look was based on the drag performer Divine, so it definitely makes more sense for her to be played by a drag performer
when someone BECOMES their performance its very breathtaking. every second of this was just that. GREAT performance.
Far and away the very BEST version of this song. I'm addicted, keep watching it over again 😁🤣
1:32 - That audience member. That would be me. Drew absolutely NAILED this.
This was not on my 2022 bingo card. Drew is always such a joy to watch.
It's the outfit, boots, and platinum hair that did it for me!
Honorable Mention: 1. "'Cept your voice!" in major gruff; 2. "Soooooulll!!!" in the rafters! 👌🏾
This is the best cover performance of Poor Unfortunate Souls I've ever heard.
Drew is absolutely brilliant, the way he sings what a voice 💕💕
it’s a ritual now to watch this at least once a day…perfection
Love this …. Went to college with Drew …. His voice his voice his voice !
So far the best cover I've seen...searched for other Drew Sarich singing video, how can he own such an amazing vocal range!
His "Judas" is amazing. I also like his Krolock in "Tanz Der Vampire".
Such a wonderful actor as well as a wonderful singer! Would love to see him in a musical.
I admit that in the past I've been a nasty
They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch
But you'll find that nowadays
I've mended all my ways
Repented, seen the light, and made a switch
To this
True? Yes.
And I fortunately know a little magic
It's a talent that I always have possessed
And dear lady, please don't laugh
I use it on behalf
Of the miserable, the lonely, and depressed (pathetic)
Poor unfortunate souls
In pain, in need
This one longing to be thinner
That one wants to get the girl
And do I help them?
Yes, indeed
Those poor unfortunate souls
So sad, so true
They come flocking to my cauldron
Crying, "Spells, Ursula, please!"
And I help them!
Yes I do
Now it's happened once or twice
Someone couldn't pay the price
And I'm afraid I had to rake 'em 'cross the coals
Yes I've had the odd complaint
But on the whole I've been a saint
To those poor unfortunate souls
You'll have your looks, your pretty face.
And don't underestimate the importance of body language, ha!
The men up there don't like a lot of blabber
They think a girl who gossips is a bore!
Yet on land it's much prefered for ladies not to say a word
And after all dear, what is idle babble for?
Come on, they're not all that impressed with conversation
True gentlemen avoid it when they can
But they dote and swoon and fawn
On a lady who's withdrawn
It's she who holds her tongue who get's a man
Come on you poor unfortunate soul
Go ahead!
Make your choice!
I'm a very busy woman and I haven't got all day
It won't cost much
Just your voice!
You poor unfortunate soul
It's sad but true
If you want to cross the bridge, my sweet
You've got the pay the toll
Take a gulp and take a breath
And go ahead and sign the scroll
Flotsam, Jetsam, now I've got her, boys
The boss is on a roll
This poor unfortunate soul
Thank you so much ❤
