This site has already covered toplane basics in many videos. Top lane is more simple in terms of fundamentals, there is not much of a reason to make "Dopa lvl" video of toplane challenger as a guide because it doesn't really steer away from common fundamentals even in high challenger, like it did in this video. However, jungle and mid often do in high elo. Thats why those roles are more focused on in high challenger videos. :)

Just think about how you can win the game and how the enemy wants to win the game. Then dont let the enemy get those conditions while working at your "winning conditions".
I get it. This is a good thing to teach and a good way to play. But isnt it hilarious that even in toplvl Kr solo queue, the predicted outcome of bot being ganked wasn't true, he got caught and the only reason he survived is because he took spellbook and swapped to barrier not even 20 seconds before hand. If he had any normal soloQ runes or was even slightly later swapping the summoner, he dies here. Irelia likely pushes for a plate with sylas, gets the wave bounce and gets a good back. It's crazy how much can swing on small things and hell even potential "mistakes" from the enemy team can mean your right decision leads to a bad outcome.

Just confirmed this from experience. I played a top game vs Illiaoi using Tahm. Killed Illiaoi on a gank, left lane with 3 waves of cs then graves went clearing it. Best game ever. Illiaoi is 0/1 when he went back to lane got to level 5 while I'm 1/0 level 4. Destroyed the whole lane and my whole team afterwards because graves gapped me and gave illaioi a free lane. Honored graves after while reporting. :) So flipping tilted on that game. 3 fudging waves of cs hoping to freeze and graves just went maniac clearing it.
What if you’re against someone like a Yasuo who outpushes you lv1 with his q, gets lv2 first and pushes you off the wave, not letting you freeze? If you just last hit the enemy wave will crash to your tower then bounces back and if you walk up to thin the wave he would e up and trade with you, which you would lose because he hit lv2 first?
If u walk up to cs and u predict he's gonna e+q fake to last hit and go in ur ranged minion and trade there u can't lose the trade with ranged minion advantage in the early game, then keep doing it until he's low. Then u can freely thin the wave then freeze and poke if they walk up, if they force the push just spam auto and abilities and run the yasuo down atleast get the flash and then they take a bad recall and urfreze wave and recall
Wave manipulation existed before league in dota 1 dopa mechanics are god tier moba in general. Minion aggro doesn't exist in league so he minimize Creep damage like basic dota 1.
question: what do you do as a melee character when you try to crash a wave onto the tower but the enemy laner is standing in front of the tower (but ofcourse still in tower range) so that only the melee creeps would crash and not the ranged?

What if you were Ziggs? Would you hard shove the first wave vs Irelia instead (worried she might tank and all-in you)? These wave control techniques don't seem as viable on Ziggs. He doesn't have a shield, bonus MS or such precise options. If you try to poke them, you're almost always pushing since Q is basically impossible to hit if they're not near minions. Also, freezing seems much less attractive when you don't scale as hard as Orianna. Ziggs has comparable damage late game but he doesn't have her safety, reliability and utility. That's why Orianna is strong regardless of matchups or comps while Ziggs has only a handful of spots to be picked without making it an uphill battle. As a whole package, he's just not on par and he has to get more done early. He's not a paritcularly safe champion and Phase Rush performs poorly on him (not as fitting for a poke champion) but it feels like I'm forced to take more risk to be relevant in the game.

No. You would not hard shove the first wave. Because: If ur high elo (D2+) you will get dove 3 waves later with a jungler as a punishment for that obvious mistake leaving you lvl 2, 3 waves behind of your lvl 4 opponent and you lost the game as you lost the farm and will die again in 2 waves to a gank as the higher lvl enemy has a freeze. If ur low elo, it still makes no sense because you will never have enough minions again to trade in a wave, you will be exposed to early ganks for 3 waves, and after that your opponent gets a free recall, prio etc. if you can expect that he can play even moderately well. edit. Btw basically you never shove the first wave unless you are playing nunu mid with jungle prio and want to gank top or bot instantly against an enemy who doesn't have wave clear to crash before you are back in the lane. xd
@@masaboih I don't understand what you mean about being level 2 to level 4. Why would I be down in levels? Shoving involves killing minions faster than them, not slower. If anything, I level up faster than they do and can usually continue to level up faster. The wave advantage is maintained even if you don't stack waves (because you're constantly damaging it and using autos as ti comes out). I've done this sometimes to avoid lane interaction (as recommended by a Masters Ziggs from a few seasons ago). His argument was that Ziggs can't really trade well and this forces enemies to avoid harassing him since only a few champions can match the shove speed. The biggest problem I've had witht his is that Pyke (absurd base armor), Lucian and even Irelia can sometimes just tank minions and all-in when you attempt this. This can prevent the shove and leave the wave in an awkward spot. Sometimes you get a lead off their attempt to stop you but it feels really coinflip and you're usually playing with an Ignite disadvantage.

You can't match that trade with one wave because you pushed the first one under tover already. Basically Irelia will just walk up and zone you out of damaging the second wave. Basically this leads to Irelia crashing waves 2,3,4 into your turret before you have even hit lvl 3. Irelia gets free reset and the lane will freeze in front of his tower as ur still lvl 2 missing waves while irelia will be lvl 4, and you will most likely get camped afterwards. The lane is already over. Even if your jungler saves you from getting dived the follow up will still be very hard to deal with Irelias free reset and freeze. tldr. If you shove the first wave in high elo vs irelia you will put the lane in very awkward spot and the enemy jungler and mid know this and will play around it, leading to your death by 1) gank on waves 2-3, 2) dive on wave 4, 3) gank after irelia crashes 4th wave and freezes.

Typically in range vs melee match ups, as the ranged champ you would get a minion lead for first wave, slow push the second wave and crash the third wave while poking melee champ. Why wouldn't you do that here against irelia?

I think it's more something you learn with time. Like for me, I played all the champs to get a feel on what I like/test them out when I started league, by knowing their abilities you know what they do and when they get powerful. For example, I spammed wukong a few months ago, and I learned that his lv2 is really good because you got crazy damage, and lv 3 too since he gets his clone so he can deal damage and not lose any health. Malphite level 6, shen lv 2, garen lv 2 etc. Also they depend on the enemy as well, like shen's lv2 power spike is better than garen's, but garen's is better than wukong's and so on. You learn them by playing the champion, learning their abilities, and using some logic
It's not, it's just safer to do it the way it's showed in this video. You can get cheesed at lvl 2 or 3 with the bounce, but it is easier to secure kills on the ennemy laner, with the lvl advantage. On the other hand, freezing secures you more experience and cs on the long run if your opponent doesn't know what he's doing, but is also hard to maintain, especially if you need to help your jungler. I've often seen opponents just go back to base and gank another lane/jungle whenever I was freezing too, so you have to ping it whenever you haven't seen him recently.
*Theres always something that makes me wonder, why Dopa, Faker and the best players in the world, aren't ADC mains? About 80% of the best players in the world are mid laners, 20% is Top and JG, we barely see an ADC being so famous or high in ranked as them, I feel like ADC is the most ignored role off all time, I hate to keep farming all the game, but thats how my role works to impact the game later, and we impact the game later in objectives, we should have more spotlight in the hall of fame*
The reason is simply that those roles have more functions/variables, i.e. more ways to be better than your opponent. There is more room in the skillset of midlaner, so that the max cap of skill is higher. That's why when the best players who have maximized all the skill variables in their chosen role, the role that has more variables to be maxed out has the largest impact when the skill margins become extremely thin in the highest lvls. That's why the skill difference between rank1 mid to rank2 mid is more impactful than rank1 adc to rank2 adc. That's why the most hyped best legendary players are often midlaners, then junglers and toplaners, if that makes sense xd (jungle actually having second highest cap, but it goes largely unnoticed due to its complicated logic and interactions that, for example, the casters aren't even qualified to catch in tournaments, so it goes often under the radar)
Because ADC's are useless. No but really, its one of the hardest roles and there's not much room for plays, it's not a 1v1 where you outsmart your opponent, its a 2v2, and the whole thing depends on your support too. Jg is the easiest role to play and climb with, mid is the easiest to make plays and carry, top is the easiest to help your team and win the lane. Meanwhile ADC's are never a threat, not because they're bad players, they're better than all those, it's just the role. I'm pretty sure Tyler1 proved enough when he played jungle knowing only the basic things and still getting to challenger. Now show me a jg main/top main, whatever, getting to challenger by playing ADC.

For anyone needing tangible evidence for WHY the wave will push forward into Irelia here, simply consider the following: When both of the waves have equal amounts of melee/cannon(if there is one)/ranged creeps, and the waves meet each other slightly closer to Orianna's side instead of directly in the middle, Orianna's NEXT incoming wave *will aid in killing that initial, even wave* BEFORE Irelia's next incoming wave gets a chance to. Thus, Irelia's minions are outnumbered for a few seconds, leading to more red- minion casualties over time (and hence eventually pushing into Irelia's tower)
Why would they further elaborate the even minion rule? That's like saying someone shouldn't use multiplication bc it's easier to understand as multiple steps of addition.

you can't do that with irelia since she can run you down
It's not, it's just safer to do it the way it's showed in this video. You can get cheesed at lvl 2 or 3 with the bounce, but it is easier to secure kills on the ennemy laner, with the lvl advantage. On the other hand, freezing secures you more experience and cs on the long run if your opponent doesn't know what he's doing, but is also hard to maintain, especially if you need to help your jungler. I've often seen opponents just go back to base and gank another lane/jungle whenever I was freezing too, so you have to ping it whenever you haven't seen him recently.

*Theres always something that makes me wonder, why Dopa, Faker and the best players in the world, aren't ADC mains? About 80% of the best players in the world are mid laners, 20% is Top and JG, we barely see an ADC being so famous or high in ranked as them, I feel like ADC is the most ignored role off all time, I hate to keep farming all the game, but thats how my role works to impact the game later, and we impact the game later in objectives, we should have more spotlight in the hall of fame*
The reason is simply that those roles have more functions/variables, i.e. more ways to be better than your opponent. There is more room in the skillset of midlaner, so that the max cap of skill is higher. That's why when the best players who have maximized all the skill variables in their chosen role, the role that has more variables to be maxed out has the largest impact when the skill margins become extremely thin in the highest lvls. That's why the skill difference between rank1 mid to rank2 mid is more impactful than rank1 adc to rank2 adc. That's why the most hyped best legendary players are often midlaners, then junglers and toplaners, if that makes sense xd (jungle actually having second highest cap, but it goes largely unnoticed due to its complicated logic and interactions that, for example, the casters aren't even qualified to catch in tournaments, so it goes often under the radar)
Because ADC's are useless. No but really, its one of the hardest roles and there's not much room for plays, it's not a 1v1 where you outsmart your opponent, its a 2v2, and the whole thing depends on your support too. Jg is the easiest role to play and climb with, mid is the easiest to make plays and carry, top is the easiest to help your team and win the lane. Meanwhile ADC's are never a threat, not because they're bad players, they're better than all those, it's just the role. I'm pretty sure Tyler1 proved enough when he played jungle knowing only the basic things and still getting to challenger. Now show me a jg main/top main, whatever, getting to challenger by playing ADC.

For anyone needing tangible evidence for WHY the wave will push forward into Irelia here, simply consider the following: When both of the waves have equal amounts of melee/cannon(if there is one)/ranged creeps, and the waves meet each other slightly closer to Orianna's side instead of directly in the middle, Orianna's NEXT incoming wave *will aid in killing that initial, even wave* BEFORE Irelia's next incoming wave gets a chance to. Thus, Irelia's minions are outnumbered for a few seconds, leading to more red- minion casualties over time (and hence eventually pushing into Irelia's tower)
I think the reason they dont explain it here, is because they have explained it countless times in other videos before.
