    Hi friend, for a little over a month I have become a follower of your channel and an active buyer of your store, despite living far away from the US, I am from Chile and my main language is Spanish .... I appreciate a lot of the time you spend teaching your knowledge on a TH-cam channel. Thank you for putting subtitles in Spanish, as it makes it even easier for me to understand what you want to communicate, may God bless you and your store ..... A hug from a distance ...

    New rider here. This video saved me from buying a helmet that was far to big for my long oval head. I wound up with a Arai Signet-X. I needed to buy local because I needed to try more than one size. I'll buy the next one from you.
    Thank you so much.

    this answered a lot of my questions. as a new rider, helmet size has been a nagging point for me. I'm between a small and medium and I'm happy I chose the smaller size. Great video, guys. Thanks.

    I’ve been riding with my medium helmet and today I went to cycle gear to try on a shoei rf 1200 before I order the one I want with certain graphic. I put the medium on while the worker was talking to me and he immediately says it’s a bit too big I should go size lower. I was like, “really”? He said yea and began explaining most of what you said here to me. I was actually surprised because I thought my current helmet was a good fit but I tried on a shoei rf 1200 size small and I IMMEDIATELY understood my problem. Tomorrow I’m going back to that cycle gear and ordering the shoei I want with the graphic I like just to give that guy my business for actually taking the time to teach me that. So appreciative of it. And great video too btw.

      You just cannot beat the feeling of walking into a store and trying on helmets. More than likely there will be an employee at the store that can advise you on certain and for me money can't buy that. I always buy my gear in a store when I try it on and get some advice and am happy with it. Going online to save a couple bucks is just not worth it in my opinion to get a helmet you are not fully happy with.

    Probably one of the better helmet fit videos on TH-cam. Needed a reminder on the crown measurement today. Where sizing gets tricky is when you fall in the middle and that's where being in the dealership is worth it. I tend to lean towards going a size down then going up. Most helmets give 10-20% brake in so it will loosen up a little. Ole Boy is jacked, good to see someone take pride self fitness and their trade. Suns out, Guns out. :-)

    Thank you for this info. I just purchased a helmet online. My previous helmet was a size large. I was at a HD Dealer and purchased this through their recommendation.
    The new helmet I just purchased, I followed the measurement recommendations. According to size chart I wear a small. Putting the helmet on I thought omg this is tight. After watching several videos, the helmet I measured is the correct size. I found my old helmet, it was only a half helmet, but even with the chin strap tight , it had way too much movement.
    Thank you, your demonstration was perfect! Maybe you should go to HD in my neighborhood and educate them on appropriate helmet fit!!!

    This is the best helmet sizing guide I've seen! Very informative! It almost made me return my Nexx XD1 helmet thinking it was too tight, when in reality it fits just perfect and I'm not used to having snug fitting helmets! The Nexx XD1 fits my head in exactly every aspect you mentioned including not being able to stick fingers into the forehead area. I always thought that it was too tight, but once it's on the head, it's super comfortable. Getting the helmet off and on is quite an effort though :D Excellent video covering every aspect!

    That was a great video. Shame I live thousands of miles away, or I would have been on my way to you already. Measuring my head I found I was either 2XL or 3XL, right on that boundary, and intermediate, if slightly narrower, oval. Most shops and importers in the UK only stock to XL :-(. A year ago, I eventually found a HJC stockist with 2XL to 4XL. 2XL was painfully tight on the side to side and forehead. The 3XL I thought was fine. Bought it. Now, one year later, it is as loose as heck. This time I went much further, to a bigger store, like yours, but even they did not stock 3XL. I tried what seemed like hundreds on. Most I could not even pull on to my head! I was there for almost an entire day. They were not even willing to get a 3XL of any brand in for me to try, so I went direct and visited the importers (those who would let me in). In the UK many are within a few miles of each other and maybe an hour to drive to. I found just one that fitted me. The tech guy told me which model was in my price bracket (the choice was polycarbonate or carbon, and the carbon was too high). He told me that all their helmets tended to be on the small side, so as I was 2XL, we tried the 3XL. They had just a few in stock in solid matt black. It fitted as though someone had actually taken a mold of my head. Not easy to get on, but not hard, and certainly not loose. No pressure points, but the cheek pads push a little. My local dealer, Moto Central got them to ship the helmet to them. We went through the fitting process, and then the sales guy cut me a deal for cash. About US$50 off the price. So, I have a 3XL Scorpion Exo 510 Air for just $140 plus tax. Now I have to ride this one in. wish me luck.

    Great video. When donning / doffing my helmet it feels like it's going to rip my ears clean off my head. But when it's finally on it feels snug but comfortable in all the right places. I guess if I wanted to just look cool I would wear a cereal bowl with a chinstrap.

  • @fruityMangoExperience
    @fruityMangoExperience 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    do the "roll off test" to the back as well because you wanna see whether the helmet is matching your neck because if it isn't it will be easy to lift the helmet off by pulling the chin part up. In fact the same problem as with the shown "rolling test" applies. And pay attention because the helmet might feel like it perfectly matches but it doesn't when you can lift it off somehow.

    I tried a small helmet. Felt great except I had a lot of pressure in my forehead. I wore it for thirty minutes and had a headache after. I then tried a medium which felt a lot better on my fore head but a little loose in the cheeks. It was a Biltwell and a 22 inch head. 22 is the end of small size and start of medium size. Not sure where I should go from there.

  • @thomasakers4342
    @thomasakers4342 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    For a future topic, how about discussing (1.) the best "design" helmet for your riding style... for example: a helmet designed for the aggressive, tucked-in style for high speed riding vs. the straight-up style of riding a cruiser bike. (2.) Also, maybe share what kind of riding helmet with a visor is appropriate vs. a helmet without a visor, vs. a modular helmet. (3.) And lastly, maybe the pros and cons of the half helmet, vs. the 3/4 helmet, vs. the full helmet, vs. the modular helmet. In my experience, the wrong helmet design can contribute to uncomfortable buffeting, excessive wind noise (that can damage hearing), and the sensation that a helmet is being pulled upward by air flow from being seated at the wrong angle for that particular design. I've learned (by expensive trial and error) that the best helmet I can wear riding a sport bike in a crouched-forward position is NOT the same helmet I should wear when seated straight-up on a cruiser. Thanks for your consideration.

    Informative video. I got a XL helmet which is exactly just like the medium size helmet in this video.
    I'm gonna try L size helmet which maybe is the best fit for me. I got 59 cm sizing.

    What about accommodating sunglasses inside the helmet and earbuds if you run comms? Does the same sizing still apply or need to upsize?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should never change the size of the helmet to accommodate glasses or a com unit. In our most recent helmet reviews we have started covering the fitment of glasses in each model to give you all an idea of how well the helmet works with glasses. - Van

    Very nice video ... especially on how a helmet should be put on and how it should sit on the head.
    Question ... how do you factor in if someone is wearing eyeglasses?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tarek Mohamed Thank you for the feedback on the video. As far as glasses go, this is more tricky because everyone has a different style. Some helmets are more acceptable for glasses because they build in a small groove, while others do not. Unfortunately, it is not a straight forward answer and you might just have to try a couple helmets on with the glasses to make a determination. Thanks! ~Aubrey

    Hey Van, I'm taking my MSF course in May 2021 and am buying gear now to make sure I have enough time to get used to them and feel comfortable. Your video reviews have helped out a lot so thanks. I do have a question regarding which helped to buy. I'm considering getting either the Scorpion EXO R420 or the Bell SRT Cousteau helmet. I measured my head right above my eye and above my ears and I am 23.1inches and I wear glasses. Both helmets are around $160 and Snell 2015 rated
    Which helmet would you recommend and what size? I think a Large would be good for the Scorpion and an XL for the SRT. Thanks for all the help

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comparing the 2 I prefer the Scorpion. When you get it in your hands and see the quality inside and out you will understand. At 23.1" I would put you in a large in the Scorpion for sure. - Van

      @dantheman4861 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sportbiketrackgear Thank you so much. I actually prefer the Scorpion over the Bell and your insight just made this decision so much easier. Thanks a lot, man, and thanks for all the informative videos.

    I measure 58.5cm, right between most M and L helmets.
    I went for the L just because i thought i won't be able to wear the helmet for a long time if it was too fitting.
    I regret it now.
    As you said, the pads will change in shape after time.
    A brand new M might be a little tight at first, but it will "break-in" to just fit.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that, but depending on the helmet you might be able to get smaller cheekpads to snug it back up. ~Aubrey

    I’m in between 23.5 and 24 inches. I’ve tried shoei, HJC, LS2, and AGV. So far the AGV has fit me best in a L but if I push my jaw forward or do like a kiss face my lips touch the chin bar.. is that a bad thing?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being able to touch the front of the chin bar like that is not uncommon at all. We are all shaped a little different and so are the helmets. If you have tried on several models odds are you already know each of them will offer a different fit in that area. - Van

    I have a size small,but can't get my glasses on properly,I also have a medium size and can get the glasses on properly,but in saying that I get a lot of wind noise even with ear plugs.What would you suggest? PS both helmets are the Zeus brand.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most important thing is the helmet fits properly. You should never go up a size in a helmet to get your glasses to fit. A poor fitting helmet can not protect you properly in the event of a crash. - Van
