@@popswhippersnapper9629 Heck yeah - I checked Harmony Quartet, per your suggestion. They rearranged it to four voices - in C - and the bass goes for the fundamental. This version by King's Singers was done in F. I sing it with ladies doing the upper voices in E. Great piece; fine group.

Thank you so much for sharing the sheet music. About two decades ago I was in an excellent vocal group, the latest in a number of ensembles with whom I had the privilege of singing. Unfortunately I had to leave the last ensemble because health problems required me to undergo repeated surgeries. The intubation caused damage and scarring to my vocal folds and I have barely sung since. But I must have performed this with one of my prior ensembles... the vocal and physical memory I have for music I perform lasts beyond my conscious recall, and when I heard this piece I was able to sing along--very gently at first, but with a very small level of increasing confidence--because my voice remembered what I do not. I have been rehearsing my voice now gently since you posted this and I think I might, in a few months' time and with care for the way I exercise my vocal folds, be able once again to audition for an a capella group near me. If you had not posted this gorgeous piece with the music... I don't know that those neurons, that body memory, would ever have fired the same way. Tallis, Palestrina, Cornysh, that's the stuff right there... and I honestly had forgotten just how singing feeds my soul. It has been 20 years. You may have helped me save my voice after two decades. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You are so right-it’s still there in the muscle memory. I have a dear friend, formerly a professional trumpeter, who suffered tremendous trauma to her lower jaw many years ago, for which she has several pins. Another friend, our former marimba band teacher and leader, insisted (!) that she start to play again, in order to contribute the trumpet to our arrangements. She did, and what she had thought impossible became possible. Her brilliant jazz trumpet is now resurrected and delighting all who listen! Music heals not only the listeners, but also and especially those who actually do it. Go for it!

This is a perfect and crushingy beautiful replay of an anthem I first sang as a choirboy in the 1970's. Publishing the music is genius, acting as a sightreading tool for those days when I simply have to join in, becoming a King's Singer for a fleeting moment in my life (albeit someone who would never make your exceptional grade).
Contempories of Tallis were the go-to pillars of our repetoire, and I now know years later that I was given a tour as a chorister, of genius composers.
This recording is stunningly, achingly beautiful and crystal clear - thank you for sharing this jewel of English Choral Music (and other recordigs) to start my day each day - they are, put simply, beautiful renditions.

I had the opportunity to hear the original six King's Singers at my college in the early 1980's. Being a choral/voice student I also got chosen to pick them up from and take them back to the airport for their gig. I have been a HUGE fan ever since. Not only were those gentlemen terrific musicians and an exquisite ensemble, they were/are warm, hysterical, and fantastic individuals. You all continue to sound every bit as wonderful and you imbue your performances with the same musicality, love, empathy, and compassion (not to mention humor) that the original six did. Bravo!

I have had the great pleasure to regularly meet in Rome the King Singers, as they were before 'the changing of the guards'. I still see John and Christopher, whose voices remind me the joyful Christmas concerts at the Parco della Musica Auditorium; and the time David H, Timothy, Christopher G. , Paul P. , Christopher B. and Johnny shared with us in the near bookshop, after the concert, signing the covers of their CDs to us... It seems to me an entire lifetime has flown down. I would like to wish them all the very best and tell them 'Good-bye'. Also, I would like to thank the new 4 members for melting their voices with such a grace to the older two singers. A new group, the same desire to keep a wonderful acappella tradition alive, in this strange world and hard times. Thanks a lot for your precious Xmas present. Stay well, all of you; a sincere wish of Merry Christmas

Over the years since this was first posted I have listened to it many times; the joy of hearing this never lessens. I wonder: was Tallis fortunate enough to have heard so good a performance of the incredibly beautiful anthem he had written?

    Ringing harmonies, so true.
Lol, I had already left a comment, but today I wanted to add that this performance is pretty wonderful. The return to the tonic at the end is so satisfying. Thank you for this.

If you’re trying to sing along you see why page turners always look for the pianist’s head nod before the last bar.

So beautiful. I look forward to the day when I can attend choral concerts once again, here in Victoria, B.C. Canada. It may be a while. Until then, videos such as this will soothe my spirit. Thanks so much.
