I know this was now 4 months ago but I’d like to say “Thank you” to all those who commented on my sign language. It was a challenge to do this but so rewarding and emotional.
When I saw you begin to sign, I lost it - puddle of tears. I don’t know what it is about sign language alongside music, but it gets me every time. Beautiful! ❤️
@@rebeccatannermusic hello. Thank you so much for that lovely comment. I try to get the emotion and the music across as well as the words and the meaning and it's so satisfying when I do achieve that. Much appreciated.
Timeless appreciation: I had to pull this up again because the music was stuck in my head for the last few days. I sat at the piano and played it, which I can do with almost anthing I hear. It is my way to try to get the music out of my mind and into the air. However, no piano arrangement could emulate the beauty of this performance I am SO in awe of the genius of the method, which orchestrated all the voice parts and the voice files and the final assembly. The arrangement and the voices are all just stunningly beautiful. This WAS AND STILL IS a wonderful gift built from Billy Joel's gorgeous melody and lyrics. Heartfelt thanks to every person who made this happen!❤
I have never known grief...ever...and yet lost my mother...not my biological mom...but the one I chose...because she truly loved me...I held her hand in mine as she left this earth...and when this song popped up on my feed I could not even deny her worth...her immeasurable influence...her presance in my life...how very much I owed her...how very much I loved her...how very much she meant to me...HOW VERY MUCH i AM BLESSED FOR HAVING ...HER...IN MY LIFE
This song makes me cry every time i hear it,such a beautiful song, The only song that has brought tears is Father and son.but this outshines it. Thank you from an 80 Year old 😥
Crying. I'm a professional classical opera singer, and don't know much about signs. But when I saw how the interpreter signed the song, I was just deeply touched by how wonderfully delicate and strong human beings can be!
Signed interpretations are very beautiful because in theory your are signing the true meaning of the song not the words verbatim. I’ve signed a few songs but I’m nowhere fluent enough to tell you what he is singing exactly.
They used to sign the choir at church. I don't know sign language either, but I always found it fascinating and delightful to watch...almost like arm dancing, if you will, with MANY varied movements. After watching for a while, it also became evident what the thinking behind some of those signs was...not surprisingly, I guess, but more logical and descriptive.
Same, I don’t read sign language but the translation was so expressive and evoked the natural breathing pattern of the choral text it brought tears to my eyes; I can only hope everyone evinces the core expression of this video. Love to all at this time
I follow The King's Singers on social media, found out that way. The Stay At Home Choir has a website where you can sign up to learn about future virtual choirs.
Thankful that the sound engineer made Jonathan Howard (bass) so prominent. He anchors the song with such grace, power, and mind-bending range. I can’t get over how he hits that impossibly low note at the end.
is he the guy all the way to the right or the 2nd in from the right? ANd also who is the bass singer on this song? It seems that both of those guys are basses
Oh yes, sobbed and sobbed. My mum recently died. This made weep then brought me peace. It was a relief. I've listened to it over and over. Just beautiful.
Oh yes. My daughter's choir sang this at her school a few years after her dad/my first husband died. As soon as I heard the opening bars I was sobbing like I very seldom do.
I would have liked to see Billy Joel listen to this for the first time. I saw Joel live for the first time in 1977. He will always remain one of my top three singer/songwriters.

I have loved the King’s Singers for decades and have attended at least ten of their concerts. They are the platinum standard of close harmony. This collaboration just raised them to a new level! Absolutely stunning, deeply moving...
I've listened to this like 63 times the last couple of weeks, and I suppose I soon have to start to pay something? How can this song not have been an instant hit for Joel, and how can I hear something new every time I listen? Thank you KS and Stay at Home Choir (and sign-language guy) for this ... for this.
I followed the original KS line up in the 60s and 70s as a choirboy. My daughter now sings and her director of music forwarded this to her. I LOVED it. Very well done. PS I have had the pleasure of singing with the KS in my garden. (I was in the garden the KS were virtually in my garden - for social distancing reasons obvs.)
This year was my senior year in high school and I sang the first solo of this song in our Christmas concert and that performance was one of the highlights of a really rough year. I was looking forward to having one last moment like that as a final send off before we graduated but it’s just sad we won’t get that because of corona virus. I can’t help but get a sense of nostalgia when I hear this song and for me it makes what’s already such an emotional song so much greater, it was nice to sing along as it went and I’m really gonna miss this.
I was so moved by the signing, Subtitles that complemented absolutely Perfect Singing a perfect song! My wife is profoundly deaf and yes I am a musician with lots of deaf friends (Chalk and Cheese) and I was thrilled to be able to share it. I also love Billy Joel Songs, this one and especially Just the way you are. Thank you for doing this song. Amazing!
A lot of Deaf people can hear enough to enjoy music but not enough to understand the words. Speech is a particularly precise and finicky thing - you need to hear just the right frequencies. I am sure some people listening to the BSL are also enjoying the music.
I've always thought that this song would be perfect for a wedding. The trust and vulnerability in the words "and you can have this heart to break" brings me to tears every time and this performance just puts it over the top!
I've fallen in love with this song all over again after watching "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" on Hallmark. Billy Joel sings it in several episodes, including a wedding and some of the most emotional and heartbreaking moments. It's well worth checking out the entire series.
Turned out beautiful! Kudos to the King's Singers and the Stay At Home Choir staff! Thanks for the opportunity to participate - it was a joy to be included!
This is honestly the best and most effective virtual choir at this scale I have ever heard. The only thing I wish more about it, was that I could have been part of it myself.
I absolutely love the sign-language as a part of a choir. Seems like an oxymoron at first, but there's so much emotion that goes into sign language if done like this, I love how the emphasis really comes out with those simple gestures. I feel like we as signers could probably incorporate that into pieces we know really well, to act out the lyrics and always sing with meaning and intention to get the emotions and thereby the intonations to really be on point!
Way back in 1999 I had a choir of two hundred children and adults sign my song "Moon" as they sang, and it has been performed like that several times since. It's a beautiful thing to see. In 2004, I had two performances of my Lifetime science oratorio superbly signed throughout by Steve Almy. I had so much feedback from audience members saying it was one of the best things about the concerts. The second verse of the final song - Four Billion Years - was signed by nearly all 350 members of the choir. Video here...th-cam.com/video/wRDBqQ0-b4k/w-d-xo.html
