    When I fill my RS it takes the gas gauge a minute or less to look full again, but once it is it definitely doesn't drop down in a few mins like the issue you were having. It just slowly goes down like a normal digital gas display. But I was told by the tech where I bought mine that there is no floating device inside that measures the gas level. He said the reason it takes a minute to register that its full again is because everytime you turn the bike back on the computer does a full diagnostic and that's what causes the delay.

    Heated grips are a factory option in the UK. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get them in other markets too. Very neat install plus you get an icon on the dash to show the setting you have them on.

    I agree with the paint comment. I have a Gloss Black 765R and it seems to get scratches by just breathing on it. Went to the dealership and they say it's not a defect... never had this kind of issue with my previous Yamaha's. I've put the tank pad and stomp grips on to try and reduce contact areas on the tank, but still scratches appear from no-where. Paint finish is definitely soft.
    I kind of agree with you on not liking the tires. I live in Scotland, where for the majority of the year it's bloody wet and cold... The Pirelli's don't work in these conditions (traction control and abs lighting up on a frequent basis). I took the bike out on a couple long rides up into the highlands here when it was very warm last summer and it was amazing, more grip than I knew what to do with... but when the ambient temp drops below 13c (which seems like most of the year here), I have zero confidence in the grip they offer.
    Fuel range - when riding relatively aggressively, I get around 120-130 miles to a tank. When riding frugally, I've seen 160 miles (this includes a fair bit of highway mileage to and from the office). I'll agree the fuel gauge is next to useless.
    Heated grips/cruise control - on a mid capacity sport bike? no thanks
    Turning radius - don't really see this as an issue, though I've only ever had sport bikes so I guess it's what I'm used to...

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great feedback. Glad to hear I'm not alone on the tires. I'd like to try a set of Pirellis on track someday though. Regarding the turning circle, I came from a Supermotor and FZ-09 both of which had a stupid good turning radius.

    Good Review buddy, had my RS over a year now and as a uk bike it came with led indicators so can't understand why yours has not. I have toured round Spain on mine and one day I had to nurse it near the end of a tankful to get 155 miles, luckily a fuel station popped up just when I needed it but was getting very nervous. By the way the tank holds 17 litres maximum. Three things annoy me with mine, the hard seat hurts after 100-150 miles, the indicator switch has nearly no movement, you don't think that you have made a successful signal sometimes, and finally my bike whines in sixth gear, all the other five are quiet.

    I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 40 years so unlike the several complainers I’m reading in your comments, I think you’re analysis and criticisms totally makes sense. If those tires don’t come up to temperature in San Diego, that’s a problem! Question: did you get a chance to ride either of the other Street Triple models? How did they compare? Thanks for an honest, thoughtful, real-world vid. Good job and keep up the good work.

      @TheDriversPerspective  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I did not get a chance to ride the other Street Triple models, they had an R and S available but I knew I wanted the RS for the brakes and other suspension goodies. I have a set of Dunlop Q3+ tires on the bike now and it rides like a dream both on the street and on the track. The profile is a lot more friendly and progressive, not to mention them stick like glue really fast.

    I bought the black one because it looks so much better ;-) I am with you on the tank/capacity/computations...but it's a small niggle. I would've liked to have seen an auto-blipper along with the QS... maybe that will become the RS standard for the STR3 here in the next year...along with lean-angle ABS/traction and cruise control. BTW, I LOVE the Supercorsa's..if you can get to a track, I think you will too. And I do envy you living in SD. Thanks for the video!

    Great vid :-) Just FIO - I use quick detailer on my Street III RS with the same Matt Silver as yours and it works perfectly for removing dirt. I actualy find the matt paint much easier as there is no need to polish/wax it :-) I've only had mine for five weeks and I am loving it, even though the runnng-in is not so fun...... The only fault I can find with it is the clutch cable which gets in the way of the key! other than that, its a really great bike. (I did add a fender extender and a radiator guard... something I would recomend to everyone to do....)

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which detailer are you using? I use Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte quick dealer and the Chemical Guys matte specific wash. My dealer told me 50 easy miles under 8k then let her rip, been fine for me so far. :-)
      Which fender extender are you running?

    • @PhilipT1970
      @PhilipT1970 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fender extender was cheap but does the job well - www.pyramid-plastics.co.uk/accessory.html?h=15_103421&accessoryCode=10997&d=Street+Triple+765+S%2FR%2FRS+2017+%2B+++Stickfit+Extenda+Fenda&partNumber=056531SF I went with the Evotech raiator guard and that is nicely made. The detailer I use is Autoglym's Rapid Detailer and while the shine it gives on gloss paint is oviously lost on the matt paint of the RS, it still works very well on removing bugs and dirt. 50 miles running-in! my dealer said to follow the sticker on the tank.....I'm planing on keeping mine for the long term so I felt it right to go by what Triumph advise..... 5k max rpm up to 300 miles, 6k up to 600, 7k up to 800, 8k max rpm up to 1,000 miles..... I'm now coming up to 800 miles so I'm almost there :-) What I would like to see are some dyno results from a RS which is run-in similar to yours and one run-in by the book - would be interesting to see the results...... BTW - I agree with comments about the heated grips - at the RS price point, you would expect heated grips to come as standard.... I ended up getting heated grips fitted at the 500 mile service..... Keep the great vids coming :-)

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the link, that is a nice part. I have the Evotech tail tidy, their rad guard looks really nice too. Very interesting about the quick detailer, the dealer made be very cautious about using anything like that on the paint.
      The lead mechanic who builds race engines gave me the advice, since he would be doing any services I felt good following his advice. Modern cars/bikes are run at full load on dynos before leaving anyways.

    If you cant get those tires up to temperature in southern California then you're not gonna get any other tires up to temperature either. They warm up really quickly under normal riding, that's here in the UK! Also when the fuel light comes on, you have 5 litres left. Easy 20, 30 miles. Also, you do/should have cornering abs. Use the twisty road mode.

      Haven't taken the Speed RS for a ride yet. It is a much bigger bike, physically, compared to the Street Triple RS. I'd wager the Tuono is a bit more refined and faster. It also depends on your dealer network, I know even in San Diego options are limited for the Italian bikes.

      @frostyVX 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I currently own both a speed triple RS and a tuono factory that Im selling. The Tuono is faster, but the speed triple has a much stronger mid range which is where most of the riding on this kind of bike is done, the speed triple feels smaller than the tuono. The brakes on the tuono are way better than the speed triples.

      In saying that about the bottom to mid range, the top end on the Tuono is just monstrous, I think you will be very surprised at how similar they are in terms of comfort, Im 6"2 and have found them both very similar positions, with the tuonos seat being a little softer, but that could be it having more hours with a bum on it.

The tank has a capacity of 15.5 litres and I can never fill more than 13.2 litres. Like you I will have to push it below zero to find out. Overall very very happy with the new Speed RS. Glad your enjoying your bike.

      Hope your enjoying the bike, today I managed to ruin 11 miles past "zero" when I filled up I could only get 14.4 litres in so that gives me confidence that i can always get to zero without worrying about it. The UK tanks hold 15.5 litres apparently.

    The tyres are also way to soft on the rs for two up riding, not that it's really built for two up riding but I found out the hard way when it completely ruined the tyres in probably half the time it should have. 1500 miles and they were done, perhaps 600 of them with the misses on the back on a trip to Ireland.

    How can you complain about the Supercorsa's ?? Fantastic tires. The warm up time for the Supercorsa SP's is as fast as any street tire. The 130 degrees operating temp you have seen is for the SC compound Supercorsa's, which are the race tires. You get to choose compounds and need warmers. The SP's are the street tires which come fitted to the RS.

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I may have misread the temperature data, the forums are not what I'd consider to be the most reliable source of information. I am headed to the track in ~3 weeks with this bike and these tires. I don't doubt my opinion will change about the Supercorsa and I'm sure they will stick like glue. I still think for street use only they are just not the right match and don't warm up without some hard riding.

      Matte finish doesn't have the extra layer like the glossy finish. Its expected to scratch easily. Its normal. Fuel gauge doesn't use a float. Its a eletronic sensor. All street triples since 2013 behave like that. Plus you can ride a lot after computer shows 0 range. Led turn signals... I dont know what is the problem in usa, but mine (brazil) came with factory led turn signals (first batch 2017 model). Maybe its a regulation problem there in your country. Heated grips and cruise control? Cornering abs? Comom... You have to pay much more money to have that. Buy a speed triple, much more expensive. And about the supercorsas... Damn, its the first time i heard someone complaining about lack of heat. Probably You are using the stock psi crap numbers. Drop front to 30 32psi and rear to 30-34psi cold. It will burn your hand even on winter. Most stickiest tire in the world on dry tarmac.

Almost gave it away! The Triumph Street Triple RS is probably the best all around bike to ride, mostly ride canyons and tracking. Compared to the GSX-R750, canyon and tracking the GSX-R750 is by far a better bike and way more fun. The Triumph is a little heavy at 422lbs. with a full tank, always thought it would be around low 400lbs. according to the forums. No way, it's a little heavier than what I wanted but I can deal with it. The bike is as fast as the GSX-R750 up to 105mph at the track with the GSX-R750 having 1 down and 2 up sprockets with 158lbs. rider. My weight is 207 without gear. The bike has plenty of power as far a agility this depends on the rider and tires. Bottom line is this, the bike is a capable bike on the track with the right tires, rear sets and rider. A good friend of mine did mention that the bike would be aprox. 1 sec. slower than the GSX-R750 on a track with the right rider, he used to be top 20 in the U.S. It's a great bike and the question is, can you really ride the bike at full potential!!! It's funny how many so called riders nit pick this bike and really have no clue on how to really know how to ride the bike and put it through all riding tests. You can do this on a track and only on a track, this will change your opinion of useless views and comments on the bike. Would I buy this bike again at my level of riding, track and canyons, No, have way more fun with the GSX-R750, but getting out to the canyons on the freeways the Triumph is much better. No perfect bike so far!!! If I can answer anyone's questions please contact me. Forgot to mention parts are almost as bad as the Ducati, no one stocks parts and they are very expensive! I keep all my bikes stock unless for upgrading suspension and brakes the most important add on's on any bike; Remember this, it's the rider and only the rider that makes a fast and safe bike!!!

      Stock chain? That sounds like a really good match for this bike. Any other issues running +2 with the traction control?

      @@TheDriversPerspective I think the TC on this bike weighs front tire speed vs rear tire speed, so engine speed shouldn't effect the tc.

      @@remigusker6024 Yes it does, and it does a decent job considering the lack of IMU. Great for my purposes!
