Todd wrote I saw the light while he waiting to go on stage . While he was getting ready for his performance he was listening to carole king's tapestry album, because he liked her and he decided to write a song in carole king's songwriting style as an homage to her. When I saw the light was released as a single, it sounded so much like something carole king would have written that the rock critics gave todd the title "the male Carole king "and "mr carole king". He says he has tried to live down that title eventhough he says he's still a carole king fan.. so how ironic it must be to todd that the year that he finally gets inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as a performer is the same year counterpart, carole king also gets inducted. Maybe if we are fortunate , todd and carole will play I saw the light as a duet, or at least todd will finally get to play it for carole as a homage to her live in person after all these years as a tribute to her. Congrats todd and carole for your inductions into the rock and roll hall of fame.
He iss the ball s nnomatterwhat he does. But i must admit. I 💘 this verrsion. Watch his. Talk. About. Being at BERKLEY. SCHOOL.OF MUSIC. ITS INCREDIBLE. HE IS A TRUE. VERY VERSATILE. MASTERR OF MUSIC. AND VOCALS. AND WRITER. WOW. NIGHTFENCER. GATEKEEPER
Just shows how important it is to surround yourself with good musicians. Imagine you'd newly written this song and was giving it it's first run through with this lot!
Nah nah nah, you are totally missing the point. He has a bunch of dudes he fuckin' love playing with surrounding him, and although they might be a bit rough I guarantee they enjoyed getting up on stage and blasting out a song from yesteryear.
i just confes my feeling to a girl and I can't quite explain my feeling towards her. but this song literally translate my feeling towards her thanks todd for making this song, this literally saved my life 🫠
If I had the honour of meeting Todd Rundgren I would kiss him and tell him that I love him . I would thank him for his music an that particular song that I have loved and enjoyed for forty years or more. Sad to say that I'm a sixty six year old straight guy who loves magic music. Keep it goin Todd x .
Yes, I remember this oldie....I saw Todd Rungren with my husband and brother in law in Louisville, Kentucky in the cold weather to get to the concert in December 1977, I believe that was the year. Somewhere I have an autographed poster, as Todd's limo stopped for a few of us. and I got an autograph after the concert, and I ask him why he didnt play some song that I consiered a hit. He looked at me like, oh yeah I didnt sing that.
hechizante canción, la voz de su cantante transmite el sentimiento, todo en conjunto de lujo. Felicidades a todo el grupo de México soy. Gracias por recordarnos la belleza del amor
As I saw the board is been run by itself (1:54), but if I might add, he needs a heavy short bright plate with with strong monitors on him (difficult because of the feedback) to let him ride in the song, it works wonders, a hard knee compression applied on the overall drums, and I must give him credit for using what appears to be the original musicians of this originally very nice song.
+youtubed Prairie Prince ( Drums) Jesse Gress ( Guitar) David Pack (Backing Vocals) Ironic...the sound mix is terrible at the Tech awards! Just saw him last month was he and the sound were fantastic!
This song is so hard to play.. especially if you have to sing and do the lead guitar part at the same time. My band played this, and for some reason I could never get the lyrics right. Even reading off the lyrics written on my arm I still fucked it up.
Sounds to me like there is someone to blame. The drummer. Just stinks up the entire thing, no time, no groove.... nothing. Struggling all the way through.
@@ChristopherBix Prairie Prince is likely the best drummer you've ever heard and you have no idea. They cant hear each other. Whoever mixed this live is at fault.

Woah twins
Wow, thank you for the history lesson 👍🏼❤️🔆🌈🎼🎹🎤🎸🪘🎷🥰
Yeah, that's one of my all-time favorite songs, and come to think of it... 😂
And I love Terry Hall's cover of it.
So blessed to have listened to real musicians of the 70s.
Todd you are a musical genius. Thank you for blessing our ears all these years.
I've been listening to Todd Rundgren since 1973 I am now 7 years old and I still appreciate every song he ever wrote
I love this song so much

Always loved Todd's music, he danced to the beat of his own genius.
Dude was a fuckin maverick.
I've always loved Todd Rundgren's singing but this live vocal really shows how good he truly is.

And watch him at Darrell ss house. Woww wow wow. Crazy.
Can we still.be FREINDS
So under appreciated. Very glad I grew up listening to real music.
The 70's ..... Incomparable 😍
Legend 🙏🏻 amazing music that stands the test of time 😍so beautiful 😍
The first kick drum killed me.
jajjaa yeah
was horrible start
Drummer was in time with Todd's count in, but the artist is always right, can I get an amen? ALWAYS BLAME THE DRUMMER!
Drummer is Todd's longtime regular drummer, Prairie Prince (The Tubes). Guitar player is Todd's regular lead Jesse Gress.
he was channelling his inner Lars Ulrich
One of my favorites songs, when I was a teenager.
Just shows how important it is to surround yourself with good musicians. Imagine you'd newly written this song and was giving it it's first run through with this lot!
Maybe Todd Rundgren is so bad, he can't get good musicians. hmmm.
Nah nah nah, you are totally missing the point. He has a bunch of dudes he fuckin' love playing with surrounding him, and although they might be a bit rough I guarantee they enjoyed getting up on stage and blasting out a song from yesteryear.
I love this song but this was a shockingly bad performance. Drummer messing up, flat vocals and generally insipid
Love the guitar sound! Great song and performance, Todd!
todd is a master piece one of the best this song is a tru rock classic rock on todd thank u

Essa música fez parte da minha juventude! Adoro !
Perfect song
Love this song. Amo essa canção.
Great Song Todd. Philly Loves You
A true musical genius. He can play any instrument. He played all the instruments in Hello It's Me and blended them together.
I fell in love with him the first time I heard him sing Hello It's Me!
ANY TIME FELT LIKE JUST RELAXING TO GREAT MUSIC .. I PUT ON TODD RUNGREN
I love to see one of the most incredible drummers ever, Prairie Prince
Tell me that's not Prairie Prince. Can't be. This drummer just sucked.
@@ChristopherBix the person who mixed this live sucked*
On further listening, I don’t think the drummer did that bad. Likely they had no rehearsal.
Love his voice
THAT MUSIC IS SPIRITUAL,SINCE MANY OF US FEEL FROM THE FIRST CHORDS,AND IT´S A BEATIFULL MESSAGE.
Gotta love this guy; pure genius.
Todd is Godd - still is and always was. Loved this from age 8 to now.
the best pop song ever!!!
Right ON Todd...you helped me see the light !!!
Legendary David Pack on backing vocals
always remember always loveddddd

Love this song.
hechizante canción, la voz de su cantante transmite el sentimiento, todo en conjunto de lujo. Felicidades a todo el grupo de México soy. Gracias por recordarnos la belleza del amor
Luv this song
Good pop song 🎵 comes on tv advert for Gala bingo too
Love that - memories
It just doesn't get any better than this one of my favourite songs of all time
Mega talent, mega song, mega band.
That sure looks like Prairie Prince from THE TUBES on drums.....One of the best drummers in rock music history!
Absoulutley was The Prince!!!
I think you are right!
IT sure is
The best ❤
love seeing david pack singing background vocals
Such talent! He should be recognised more
Happiness…sheer happiness!!
Nothing compared to Darryl house.xBut still love Todd.xxx
True
Brilliant
So good...
Just unbelievably gorgeous
Still Fab'lous! 🤗
Espectacular
I like it this "punk" version :)) it is perfect. I discovered this song it in the A Very Murray Christmas Movie - which is a great movie!
EXCELLENT!
Wonderful live version with David Pack!
Who is David Pack??
jus a genius! and he did it his way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice Song! Todd you must be touched that Gala Bingo is using your song for their advert.
If it wasn't Todd performing, I would have clicked in second 2. The background "singer" with the jeansvest = his voice, oh lord.
The backing vocalist is David Pack of Ambrosia fame.
As I saw the board is been run by itself (1:54), but if I might add, he needs a heavy short bright plate with with strong monitors on him (difficult because of the feedback) to let him ride in the song, it works wonders, a hard knee compression applied on the overall drums, and I must give him credit for using what appears to be the original musicians of this originally very nice song.
do you recognize the original players or do they just look old enough?
+gatomas the original player on the classic original recording was only Todd!
+youtubed Prairie Prince ( Drums) Jesse Gress ( Guitar) David Pack (Backing Vocals) Ironic...the sound mix is terrible at the Tech awards! Just saw him last month was he and the sound were fantastic!
Michael McMillian, You are correct sir. The entire album was Todd playing all instruments and vocals. That is what made it such a masterpiece.
Great song. He still sounds good
July 2022 watching Ozark Serie of netflix Marty Byrd betting a guy this song started awesome Lol.. not even born in 1972, the times never passed.
Is that David Pack?
This song is so hard to play.. especially if you have to sing and do the lead guitar part at the same time.
My band played this, and for some reason I could never get the lyrics right. Even reading off the lyrics written on my arm I still fucked it up.
LSSU. Years before, port Huron, mi
On more than one occasion, Todd has blown a live performance. Good thing he still gets royalties from the recording.
It's like he's doesn't give a fuck! Such a shame. Love this song....
@@auntarctica2025 No, but your momma told me she is...Todd is great, but sometimes has crappy performances. So go climb back in your cave now.
I love you best...cause you're different from all the rest!!!!!!!
good man..
Oh gosh… a train wreck, and nobody is really to blame, it's just the nature of shows like this.
Sounds to me like there is someone to blame. The drummer. Just stinks up the entire thing, no time, no groove.... nothing. Struggling all the way through.
@@ChristopherBix I think it just goes to show how an out of time drummer can just ruin a whole performance sometimes.
@@ChristopherBix Prairie Prince is likely the best drummer you've ever heard and you have no idea. They cant hear each other. Whoever mixed this live is at fault.
David Pack from Ambrosia singing backing
And whose wonderful magical eyes are we talking about here? Carole's... of course.
Someone didn't rehearse.
Who is the guitarist with the hat?
💙
Is that David pack backing up vocals?
Is that David pack singing back up ?
David Pack of Ambrosia on backing vocals
Top 5 Beach Boys song. Cool hearing Cetera singing it.
Perhaps the finest pop song ever
The other guitarist is telling Todd in the opening of the video "I tuned it for you" well all I can say is that guy is NOT your friend Todd.
Is that David Pack!?!?
Is that Steve Beckett. Player?
Is that the drummer from the Tubes?
Nice
Todd, please get in touch i’d like your jacket 🙏 😀
Love this song but someone or more needed a bit more practice on it.
The drummer blew it. Check Jesse shaking his head and looking back at him.
