Hi guys, welcome to my little/big Portugal. I am humbled by your kindness. God knows we/our country are not perfect, but we would like to think we have a few perfect things that make life, well... delightful. Our land is blessed and there isn't much that doesn't grow here. Our climate, despite climate change is awesome, our sea provides us with so much beauty and bountyness, our history and people teach us all kindness, simplicity and tolerance . We are a peaceful, pretty, and politically stable country. I hope you are happy here, and that you stay for a long, long time.

@@Radioham-cf7ft , BC is a very big province, Vancounver and near by suburbs is very expensive to live, a single house about 100m2 costs more than 1,5 million$ CND(1,2m USD), rent is about 2500$/ 2 bedroom apartment. Job is depends on your educational background and experience, but most professionals immigrants can not find job in their career because Canada does not recognized their education/degree. Life in BC is good, the weather is not that cold, its clean and safe, but too expensive ,Canadian government has financial assistance to refugees but not independent immigrants. @@Radioham-cf7ft Vancouver is rainy and crazy expensive forget it.Think of Alberta ( Province )Canada in the Edmonton area. I am half ukrainian and there are many many here they started this province a long time ago biggest Ukrainian % of people in Canada. They came here as this province reminded them of home ( farming ) we even have a UKrainian Village with the history and buildings of the people who broke land in this province. Vegreville is the hub around "Kalyna Country" google it beautiful rolling hills and cheaper real estate and old Ukrainian barns and homesteads are still standing Vegreville has the worlds largest Psanka ( painted easter egg ) You will love Alberta lots of orthodox churches and more Conservative in politics than B.C . I will find links and send it to you. Oh and we have a tour of many many churches in that area from the settlers . WE are proud of our Ukrainian heritage here. Very proud and we have a radio station that is all Ukrainian on sunday nights speaking and music . Come to Alberta! if you come to Canada. BUT warning we are turning like Communists with our Globalist prime minister. I know alot about Communism and the Holodomor from My grandmother who fled Ukraine in 1928 Lucky and smart her and my grandfather ). People here for the majority do not see the communism coming as they are clueless. But the polish and Chzecks who left their communist countries can see it and do NOT like it here anymore as much as they did. Message me and I will give you more info OK ? Hopefully the war will be over soon but as long as NATO is involved they want war and have for before 2014 it is sad that Ukraine is being used and this is even happening. I am Italian, I am in my mid 40 and I got married with a Brazilian woman about 20 years ago when I first came to Brazil. I used to travel a lot until I settled down in Florianópolis, BR.
I always thought the paradise was far away from my mother land, but now with more years on my back and more life’s experience I can see I wasn’t completely right. A few months ago we purchased 2 hectares of land in Sardegna to prepare ourselves for the next move. i love it. i wish i had your energy. i am 70 in new york state preparing my huge house for sale to flee this strange country i find myself in anymore. i have had misgivings about it my whole life, but it has been made clear as day to me now what it is. i feel completely detached from it & like a stranger. my research tells me that portugal is my best chance at a successful relocation move. but it seems i can't shake off the constant distractions to make this happen. which explains why i need out. a broken 2 year old $1000.00 washing machine, unable to order my medical supplies because no-one picks up the phone when i call there, on & on. i will make it out of here. you guys are living the life i've wanted my whole life. a piece of land in the country. if i had the energy & know how i would love to have a few farm animals & plant a pretty flower garden. i am so happy for you guys. thank you for sharing your lovely life with us. i just subscribed.

We moved to Alto Alentejo in 2002, buying our home in 2003. Amazing to hear how similar your path has been to ours, even down to moving from Southern England and renting a small house in the village whilst our purchase and renovations went through. Everything you've said about life here, especially the people, even loving the rain and temperate seasons, is absolutely true. Incomparably better than retiring to anywhere on the Costas. I would not move from our little mountain home if we won the EuroMillions. Hardly likely since I've never bought a lottery ticket.

Portugal was once such a powerful country, it was perhaps the major force in discovering the world by sea, but after the earthquake of 1855, slowly lost its status on the world stage. I live in Canada and most people in North America don't even know where Portugal is on the map, sad !!!!! Your video made me cry of how you describe the Portuguese people, they are a lovely Happy bunch, and I can hardly wait to return. I also agree with you about the prices of property, here in Canada the prices of housing are just insane, if I was to buy my house "today" I could not afford it, but thank God , to of my Portuguese background/way of thinking it is paid off.

Welcome to my country and thank you for all the nice things said about it, and our people. Not everything is perfect there, and not everybody is grandiose in Portugal but the majority is, and that is what matters to make Portugal a beautiful place.
You seem two wonderful people, living a simple life, and taking all the fruits you can out of your land. You certainly are very welcome to Portugal! Everybody should have a garden, especially in a so productive land.
One important detail of our culture is patience and tolerance. You are going to need a lot of that as the pace there is much slower. Everything will still get done but as its own time. 🤭
I am a Portuguese in love by Portugal since I can remember myself, although I left it because of LOVE, but there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about returning. My dream is to do what you just did, buy a house there with a piece of land, go live there, and go back to the basics, grow my fruits and vegetables like my grandparents did there for years and years.
May you have joy and happiness for many years to come in my little loving Portugal, and a LOT of bounty too. Take care!❣️

Chopping your own wood does have many benefits as well as keeping both of you in shape. Kudos on a well thought move of why you would want to leave the British coast for a warmer climate. I am in my own home in Tucson az,(southern Arizona), and love to grow veggies and flowers. Love the rain and your irrigating addiction. Our water bills are really high now, so green grass seems to be disappearing. I miss that and having ditches to irrigate from. I'll keep watching you show. I loved the introduction.

New to your channel.. Was very nice to hear all you positive comments about the Portuguese, we have had some big problems here but the kindness and help we have been given by our Portuguese friends is the reason we stayed, you pointed out all of those reasons perfectly, i really enjoyed it. And good for your for mingling so much, so many dont.
I loved it when you said you came here for the sun, with all the rain behind you, lots here but much needed.

Welcome and thank you. Yes, you're right, it's the kindness that keeps up keeping on even when it's not all sunshine roses and lollipops. My mum always said to look for the good things and everything will work out.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We are French and Canadian living in Canada for the last 16 years. We are planning to move to Galicia, a little bit of north of Portugal next year. What you are saying fits with the short experience we had regarding the country and kindness of people.

That´s the best firewood you could get. It warms you when you chop it, when you carry it and when you burn it.

Love your videos. I am so envious of the growth of fruit, flowers and vegetables where you live. Here on the east coast of Yorkshire (two miles from the North Sea), there is not the growth, apart from weeds! I had a Portuguese vet, and he was wonderful. Are you going to get any livestock? Best wishes, Susan.

Carlos brings his goats to our land but aside from that, we won’t be getting livestock. We swap vegetables for eggs. 😊

I just came across your channel today and wanted to say hi! I'm from the UK and my husband is Irish (from Cork...although we did live in Galway for a couple of years and I had a chuckle when you said about the endless rain). We're based in Umbria, Italy, for many of the same reasons (although we came here after living in Rome for many years). We live in a village, and nearby have our own land with woodland too (where we hope to eventually build). I've studied permaculture, so we're in the early stages of planting trees, setting up water storage and other systems. I'm very conscious of the possibility of societal collapse, so living in a place where people haven't forgotten all the traditional skills, and having food and fuel security from the land, is definitely a comfort. Do you know Bea and Theo from the Indie Projects channel? I know they are also in central Portugal... it sounds like there's quite a YT community over there!
