In Costa Rica there was this big football (soccer) sponsor and every time a team scored all would yell: "Un goal, PANADOL!!!" 🙂 "You do not really want to see what is in the mirror"... I never heard that before that is funny, and so true. What does Dan do??? I think I recall he is some kind of IT consultant??? Pulling the tape, how satisfying is that! I love doing it every time I do the bottom paint on our boat... I know, I talk to the tape too LOL Lingui, is the soft wood between the rings. The house is looking soooOOooooo good. Good to see you arriving in my inbox, I missed you guys. Cheers, a
OMG I love your house already, it will be the home of your dreams very soon now. I have a feeling that you are going to miss your fabulous crew when the job is finished. Talented lot and singing to boot, you lucky lady.
Well, the 'wrap up' party entertainment is sorted - Patrick is a tad shy but no doubt his true personality will shine through😉! Building site really starting to look like a home. Keep smiling - you are almost at the checked flag!
WOW who needs a lot of paintings and other wall hangings on those beautiful stone walls! The oiled wooden beams and the floor tone in so well with the colours of the stone walls. It is breathtaking.
The 50/50/linseed &genuine turps mixers perfectly, i used it on my face brick in my renovated shoe factory, it stopped the dust, its 10 years now and it still looks amazing and no dust, it did make the brick a few notches darker, it smells amazing as well
Saludos desde Chiapas, México. If you watch the remodelación of Atelier Mavi, an old Italian stone Farmhouse reno, used similar products and it looked amazing. Good suggestion!
Meraid. Amazing that you discovered that ring. You were meant to. For a moment, I thought it might be a Claddagh ring..( Irish). Yer house looks so so beautiful. Congrats on all of yer hard work so far..also yer vision and the amazing trades people ye have on site through the build. Imagine to pick veg and fruit from the garden and walk into yer home kitchen to cook. No rental..no driving. Yer deam is coming true.
Everything in your new, forever home is absolutely gorgeous! It's so deliciously beautiful. It's great to see all of the finishing touches. And you found a treasure so late in the game. Take care all of you until next week.
I love the internal doors. Patrick's voice suits the type of music he sings. It would be nice to have a blessing on the house, its former residents and the crew when you move in. I am not religious, but the chaplain at the hospital where I worked would bless new wards or buildings and it was a good feeling, although your house already has a wonderful feeling of community.
It looks amazing. I have stone ceilings and it was sealed in a flat sealer, but it still sheds stone dust. It drives me crazy. I sweep the ceilings! I want a ceiling cleaner every week.
The house looks amazing and having worked in the building industry for many years I remember well how busy it gets just before handover. We were all working alongside each other, plumbers, sparkies, tilers, carpet layers, me and the guys that did the fit out. I miss it because though we were under pressure we had a lot of fun times. I can't wait to see it finished.💗🥂🍾🥂🎉
There is a product here in the states that people use on peat gravel and decorative stones for land scaping. It is clear and holds everything together solid. People are using it on their pathways and gravel drives in larger quantities. It may be just what y'all need for the interior old walls.
Hi we have renovated an old farm house in France and I sealed the stone walls with PVA wood glue dilute with water at 5parts water to 1 VA it brings out the colour of the stone and seals it to a natural colour. Carry on the good work it's looking great 👍👍👍
I saw this online, maybe you could try it in a small trial area? ‘If you want to seal the wall because it is dusty, then I suggest you make some limewater [1] and apply few thin coats. The stone will still show through cos limewater is almost clear, but it will stop the dusting Anna [1] Buy small tub of lime putty. Decant some into a larger tub with plenty of water. Mix well. Allow to settle. Paint with resulting clear liquid. Repeat until happy [2] [2] Rumour has it that in hard water areas, painting with tapwater will be just as effective’ This was in relation to bare Cotswold stone, so it could be different, especially with the use of clay render in Portugal, but at least it is non destructive. I hope you find a solution as pointing would be a Herculean task for you. x
Fabulous update 👍👍.. Sure is coming along nicely 👍 The only lasting way to tighten up your exposed stone walls will be to tuc point with lime mortar. Slow & very tedious work & I’ve done many heritage restoration projects over the years & most of the walls similar to your build type were plastered with various products originally, some with larger showing decorative stone around windows doors corners etc. maybe in future you could point little at a time .. as the house drys out after renovation completion the walls will become more loose & dusty.. take care no one gets a loose piece dropping on the heads , “chiks” the little pieces used for filling can be very sharp.. Have a great week ahead , we can’t wait to see you starting the spring garden 🪴
I don't think tuck pointing would be the right thing for this beautiful house. Tuck pointing always seems to make things look artificial - as if the pointing is the main feature, not the stone; and with so many joints the pointing would overwhelm the wall.. I've seen this so often on outside work where the owners have been seeking a 'natural stone' finish only for it to look as though it was all made from moulded plastic sheet. I think the way to go and to retain the lovely character of the stone is to do any necessary repairs in a faux dry-stone manner, to match the rest of the wall and then just seal it all in, 'warts-and-all', without any further pointing, once you've found the right product for the job. The dilute PVA, suggested by one of your other followers, may turn out to be just the thing you need and 'cheap as chips' into the bargain. There will be parts of the un-restored section of the building that would be ideal for a 'test run' without risking a re-run on the house itself.. Things are looking so good right now it would be a pity to spoil it all at the last hurdle. Good luck to you, I'm so happy for you that your dream is almost complete.
We have an old neighbourhood in Vancouver called, Commercial Drive, which is actually a “Little Portugal,” and a” Little Italy,” and which becomes an absolute festival every time there’s a World Cup. Trust me, the Portuguese passion for football is probably surpassed only in Portugal. Every cafe and Italian coffee shop broadcasts the games on their big screens and erupt for every score. If Italy or Portugal are in the final the city shuts the whole road down. It’s a wonderful atmosphere! Your house is magnificent!
Mairead, you most certainly are not a Beige person! You're all the colours of the Rainbow 🌈. I agree about the shiney stonework, not ideal. You're home is going to be beautiful. Hope folks in Donegal are safe and well following the storm Take care. ❤
Boas noites prazer em vê-los novamente, já me tinhas perguntado o que tinha acontecido que não davam sinal de vida mas ainda bem que estão de saúde ,bj e abraços 👍👍
So many jobs, i bet you get dizzy some times just figuring out what to do next. You are an impressive lady with all your new skills. I hope you find the sealer soon to save you all that cleaning. there has to been a low sheen product in that country. We have something here in Canada for the interlocking stone driveways that is low sheen to matt finish.
Wow.. loving the finish you are getting on the lintels. I had heard of boiled linseed oil, but never knew the difference between that and regular. I’m actually loving an awful lot about the whole build 😍 Cheers friends ❤️❤️
Living and learning. The skirting board is rodapé. The architrave is guarnição in Portugal, but we call it alizar in Brazil, although it may have the same name in Portugal - I don't know.
If you want to seal the rock walls, test an area using PVA glue mixed with water 50/50 mix, excellent and cheap. You can use it wood as well and brush it on.
Have to be so precise and careful and time consuming. Finding the right products to put on the walls. I would have thought to be like clear shellac to seal and be very shiny.
Hello from Vancouver Island. The house e is looking amazing. Curious on a couple of things, is there an insulating layer in your exterior walls, in behind the interior schist ? Also I haven't seen in the build process but what are you doing regarding air movement, are you installing a HRV system or something similar to remove humidity and moisture and air handling?
Can't you just use cement binder? It is blue in the bottle, but some cure almost clear. They give a little blue tone tho. There might be special brands that are clear or in other colors then blue
I don't get why you are polishing and doing floors if all the walls need to be wire brushed and cleaned and sealed. Surely one would finish the walls complete.
The house is really looking great. May I suggest when you’re talking about windows or walls or outside; focus the camera on those areas instead of you. We want to see the work with less talk. Thanks.

What a Lovely House / a chalet , now the fun is the Decorating , maybe it can be featured in " Homeworthy " . In regards to the question of whom lived at the end of the house, to my recollection , there was a very old lady who lived there , and according to Antonio she worked for for family all her life and had no family of her own and that small part of the house was her domain until she passed away . Saudades from Canada !!!!!!
Beautiful. Everything. Including the lovely ending.
I'm in absolute awe. Your home is going be stunning. I love it ❤

Patrick has a lovely voice. He looks like a lot of fun.
OMG I love your house already, it will be the home of your dreams very soon now. I have a feeling that you are going to miss your fabulous crew when the job is finished. Talented lot and singing to boot, you lucky lady.
I do think the houses built from schist are the most beautiful. Offset with smooth white they become stunning. You are building a home to die for ❤

How wonderful!
Oh that ring is sweet. Put it over your main entrance so that faith hope and charity come in and leave with all who come and go.
No.. put it back where you found it... it is working to protect and give the very best to your home. Leave it alone
Love your singing floor man, you have so much fun😂. You are smart to continue working when craftsmen are there❤. Carry on
O anel foi dos melhores achados deve ser de uma criança que bela história ele deve ter ❤❤😊
It’s all looking so beautiful. I can understand why you want to move in right away. 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Lovely stone house all the wood and plaster is very good well done to found great builders. Patrick is prefect for summer festival pimba pimba...

The ring was probably buried there on purpose. Maybe ask around if anybody remembers about such practices.
Wow! The house is coming together beautifully! I wish you many happy memories there ❤❤🎉🎉😊
Fantastic progress. I look forward to seeing the ring polished, a nice find. Patrick is a joy to have around, must have an Irish connection. 😊
“My precious,” Meraid said😊. That ring would have stories. You have your own troubadour❤👏🏻. Have a great week.
What a beautiful house it has become already 👏👍🌟🍀💐

Congrats on your portuguese learning...the house looks fantastic...probably you Will be leaving inside by Easter...🙂

You'll be moving in soon! 👏🥰

beautiful ending
I would look at a shellac product for the walls, easy to apply and very inexpensive.
It's starting to look like a house! How did that happen?
Looking fabulous.

What about linseed oil on the walls and wood?
take stone oil...
simple + effectiv
it's beautiful!...
but I'm asking myself, what You 're doing with such a big house?🤔
I'll keep watching!

To seal The stones on The walls try a varnish for the wooden floors ,Bonna traffic HD extra mate. Do first a experiment .good luck
What are you going to use for heating?
❤
🏡✨🙏🙌💖💖🇧🇷🍀🕊️ TA FICANDO MARAVILHOSA 😍🙏🫂
Have you considered PVA solution, I done it on concrete walls with good result😊
"Sorry, my bum is in your face!" - Bet you never thought you needed to learn that in Portuguese 🙂
Do you know the youtube videos of "atelier mavi"? A married couple renovated an old Italian stone-house. It has the same walls like you have.
There are products to help fix powdery supports
What does Dan do for a living?
That beautiful and great job sharing thank you
