The phrasing of that comment about flowers was definitely off! All I meant was that flowers don't have a clear/superficial use for humans in the same way that edible plants do. It goes without saying that they're important for local ecosystems and the planet (and thank you everyone for stressing this in the comments!) - I didn't realise this was unclear!!
Your heart was in the right place and it has to be really hard to have to be always so careful about every word you say. ❤ I love how you care and I would like to kindly ask others to be more understanding of the fact that we’re all just humans.
I’ve decided to leave another comment. Even though, I actually have a degree in biology and yes, flowers are important… It saddens me that so many people didn’t catch the beauty of your thoughts. But still, I rest content in the fact that I can now remember to appreciate the ephemeral beauty of this world. So as I watch the sunset I thank you for your kind reminder. Also, I value so much more when people are kind over being right. ❤ Thank you for all of the art you share with us. You have made me feel calmer so many times over the past few years and for that I am grateful.
I also used to think of flowers as decorative when I was a child but then I later learned more about their function for the plant and that they’re used for teas and some dishes
Wow. I haven't started the video yet but after looking at these comments I'm both excited and scared for when Ruby starts mentioning flowers... cause everyone seems to be extremely hung up on it.
I know why seeing and smelling the flowers for you this spring was so special to you Ruby. As i felt the same way when I returned home in the holidays from university, it was because the time at home was so brief and it makes you contemplate what your missing out on whilst your away from there studying at university. It's an odd feeling being home sick while actually at home, it almost seems impossible but it surely is a thing I just know it because I too experienced it.
Thank you Ruby! Your videos are so motivating. So cozy and wholesome. ❤ Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed and I watch your video, I genuinely feel better and have motivation to keep trying to fulfill what I want to do. 😘
Thx for another lovely video! It's great to see you reset, rest and recharge! I can totally relate to your thoughts about flowers ... if I discover the first tulips in my garden it's such a wonderful sensation ... much better than buying a boquet anywhere.
You’re so right! There is something magical about seeing them there in your own garden… 🪴 also, thank you so much for being so lovely in those negative comments! x
Your poem was beautiful! I love your philosophy on bluebells and the fleeting beauty of such limited time things. I feel the same about the gorgeous autumn leaves im blessed to see at the moment in New Zealand, i need to go on more autumn walks and enjoy them while they last
Ahh hasn't it been long since we saw that intro. Brought me back into pre-Oxford times. As someone who gets excited over my brother comming home from uni, I am so glad you take time to spend with your family 🤍🧸🎥
My plan was to sit outside and read today. (Chicago.) I brought my little camping chair and everything. But it was in the low 40s F, no sun, and windy. I wimped out and ended up at the library, instead!
You literally had one of the most fulfilling days in a beautiful environment, in my opinion. So I completely understand when you miss this when you're at Oxford. Also nice flips, they looked really cool.
Thank you Ruby for such a lovely video, my daughter and I loved it. We also appreciate how busy you must be in Oxford, but we love to see your experiences there as well. 🥰
Flowers give us oxygen to breathe, but I know what you mean - I don't tend to bother growing them. I favour edible stuff.I expect they go into some of the teas you enjoy... of and rose is an ingredient of turkish delight. Yum yum! Mind you, fruit and vegetables have flowers too.
Did you notice the ladybug on the post about halfway through the video? You captured such lovely scenes of nature. Thank you for sharing and have a great term.
i love the style of your videos at the moment Ruby!! i think forget me nots may be my most favourite flower, they're so simple but so beautiful especially when there's a whole bed of them
Spring is a great time to read outside. The blossom is looking lovely, albeit for a brief time! We have the warmth from the sun (peeking out now and then!) Maybe this northerly wind will ease up and we can ditch our coats soon!
Thank you for sharing the moments of your days, this video was so cozy and calming ❤ it's like the healing elixir for my tired brain today! I hope we get flowers soon too, here we still have snow, can you believe it?? I really want to go and read outside with singing birds as well 🥲🌱
Hmmm I am sure that those who are involved in plant physiology would say that flowers have a very clear functional role to play in the cycle of plant development....hmm most likely with their vivid colours they attract bees and then the plant gets easily polinated... this is only a tiny little comment i still agree with Ruby's point about spring being a wonderful season
Dear Ruby, thank you so much for your lovely videos. You always inspire and relax me at the same time 😊 You are such a nice and calm person. I am glad to have discovered you some month ago. I like the way you look at things and also you poems. Thank you for being and much luck at your studies. Have a nice time and all the best on your way. Much love from Germany ( but I come originally from Switzerland), Maria ✨
6:49 you found flowers boring as a kid?? 😢 Sorry, idk why but that stood out to me. I’ve never known a kid who was more interested in the use than the beauty of plants like flowers but each to their own I guess 😊Glad you’re enjoying more ‘useless’ things now, it makes life more charming!
Thank you Ruby! I wish I could meet you in person!😆❤️ I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how truly inspirational you are. Your kindness and positivity shine through in every video you create, and it's truly a breath of fresh air. You are such a good person, and your genuine nature is so refreshing to see. Your videos bring so much comfort to me and so many others, and I just wanted to thank you for all that you do.
Dear Ruby, thank you for reminding me that life is fleeting. “They never last long and two weeks later they were dead”. The metaphor in a little Bluebell speaks to our tenuous lives and the relatively short time we have to bloom for the sake of others. Anne Bronte expresses a similar emotion in the first stanza of her poem The Bluebell. Ruby, I’m very grateful for your visits! A fine and subtle spirit dwells In every little flower, Each one its own sweet feeling breathes With more or less of power. There is a silent eloquence In every wild bluebell That fills my softened heart with bliss That words could never tell.
Eagerly waiting for this video.. You actually know how to enjoy nature as well as life & show it to everyone in a aesthetic way!! That's a great talent you got! 😊❤
Flowers are far from useless 😅 They’re particularly important in the spring as they provide the first food for bumblebees and other pollinators. There’s more to this world than us humans and our ”getting potatoes at the supermarket” 😂 I loved this video though, especially as there’s snow on the ground where I live. How’s your dissertation going? Could you do a video on that? What’s the topic?
I think Ruby is aware that flowers play an important role in the ecosystem. Her point was rather that they initially seem insignificant for our everyday lives. Basically, she's saying the same thing as you: we humans are always so focused on what we want and need and don't see how much more there is in the world. ❤
Ruby, the countryside in your backyard with those lovely flowers just looks beautiful. I have been having a cold April this year where I live in Ottawa, Canada. I found March much warmer than this month.
My dad was giving me a lesson in how to tell the difference between native and Spanish blue bells the other day. You could Google if you're interested. Yours were Spanish, I think. The native ones droop over.
Having a pretty awful day so your video is a major comfort for me...thanks for sharing this today.. It means the world to me and a welcoming distraction for me.. ❤❤✨✨
Ruby...the bees you speak of in your lovely poem about blue bells, those bees pollinate them, and other flora which grow food. Flowers are essential to our very existence. 😂
Thanks for posting. This retired person needs routine so I enjoyed watching this. I've learned that my routine changes and adapts with the seasons which I'm loving! Beautiful spring images.
Wonderful video as always, Ruby! I especially loved your bluebell poem and your eloquent thoughts on the ephemerality of flowers. It's so true; we, as humans, tend to put aside things more often if they are always available to us, and that can cause us to never fully appreciate them.
Of course flowers have a use. They don't exist just to bring joy to humans. Their purpose lies in reproduction, attracting pollinators and providing a food source for other native animals to perpetuate species. They are important for healthy ecosystems. I suggest reading up on some basics of ecology.
You work so ridiculously hard - please make sure you take sufficient breaks completely away from study. I understand you are consciously taking breaks here but I still wonder in term-time especially whether you have sufficient downtime. As someone with 5 STEM degrees, I get it honestly. You have so much passion but breaks, breaks, breaks!
Wow, those are some insane gymnastics skills there! Looks like such fun on the trampoline, but I would break some part of myself if I even thought of attempting it 😅
the poem at the start made me cry 💜 recently i painted with some water colours a bunch of bluebe flowers and it was so magical to hear this poem from u ✨✨🌱
Bluebells are not used in modern medicine due to their toxicity; they contain glycosides that are poisonous, and their sap can cause contact dermatitis. They look beautiful though :)

@@RubyGranger8 More than welcome! And have a great spring Sunday!
Flowers have medicinal use! Calendula, chamomile, lavender, rose (and many more) are used for their flowers and have strong medicinal properties.

Flowers are useful ! They play a major role in ecosystems 😂
Literally everything in the world has an use, that's how ecosystems work lol I didn't get that comment at all.
I was going to say that. We all need to plant more (organic) flowers people!! To save the bees and our ecosystems. Flowers are really important!!

I think she was talking about whether they were useful to humans, relative to something like fruit or vegetables!
@@ninakw5279 I’d argue they’re useful to humans in the sense that much of our food relies on the survival of pollinating insects.
@@limeparticle yes I agree however, that’s not immediately obvious especially as a child which is the context she was talking about this in.
