Yeah! I'm so glad, Sammy, that means a lot to me b/c most of the time I worry that I'm taking too long. I remember years ago when I wanted to see how an artist did her bird drawing but the video was high speed with a voice-over so I couldn't follow. And her first instructions were "draw a circle" so .... double fail for this brain of mine LOL! Much love to you! E

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Somewhat hesitant with the pen , but in the end the little bird came out pretty good. This is going to be my daily practice - your teaching. It was fun.

I do the same thing with my finger on the place I’m drawing, or else I lose my place.

Shape not object., quick small oval larger oval Divide where Eye and beak line up divide where the knee hidden, If divided the top of the eye would meet the top of beak. Back side of head meets where the oval front of chest would meet the top part part where the started , The white neck if done with an oval would have the BACK Bone somewhat a slight curve down, This helps those who do not WANT COPY almost exactly from photos, but birds they see out doors, or on a field trip Knowing how to divide helps., and to know the anatomy of the bird. Oval for head, and body would not extend beyond the beak . Next know your direction of LIGHT. NOW COMBINE THE TWO of knowledge, BOTH help.
....aaaand that's exactly why you'll never hear me say "break it down into shapes".
But what ABSTRACT ARTIST SAY REALISM IS NOTHING MORE THAN COPIED ART , and been saying it since the late 50's 60's when all such work was NOT taught in college any more, but more art of COLOR, splash on, while Children in RUSSIA , Parts of Poland, France, learn from 1st grade anatomy, while USA children are still doing finger/blow painting, splash on ,drip on, and still into adult paintings. Figures , portraits, animals copied often times with swiped on colors, spattered, or dripped, and they call is Realism ART. Forgetting, leaving out anything about the animal. AT LEAST YOU DID GIVE A Snip about the bird you were sketching. Skipping the start is Destroying people for KNOWING, to take more of an interest, to watch. KNOW HOW to get a quick sketch, because BIRD DO NOT STAY STILL FOR LONG, to get the contours down. Light is what. 7 seconds before it changes.? SO what I see so MANY coping over other peoples sketches, and then splattering whatever and selling as ORIGINALS. AND THINK OF THEMSELVES as an artist. BUT ON THEIR OWN IN A COURT OF LAW SHOULD SOME ONE ACCUSE OF COPING RIGHTS , would that person be able to do it without TRACING. or LOOKING AT A PHOTO? THERE was such a movie. about a woman tired of her husband taking credit of her ART. IN COURT she PAINTED, HE sat , trying to ACT like an Artist figuring what to paint. and could not produce. LOST THE CASE. HOW MANY ARTIST WILL BE SUED. I seen someone downloaded on material someone's ANIMAL ART , and was selling for yard flags. I ask who the artist name was and they could not tell me. BENTIVILLE AR, ARTS AND CRAFT FAIR. is where I saw it. THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SUED, by copy RIGHTS.
