What an incredible find! We’ll never see those days again, but I remember when these big beautiful prop planes were still flying overhead in the 1960’s. Even travelled on a few. 👍🏻
Nice video on your Western Airlines, Douglas DC-6B. Interesting negotiation tactic to purchase it. Money talks and thanks for sharing! I have that exact WAL DC-6B, Douglas factory model, N91302 (Western's 1st DC-6B). I bought mine about 1992 at a model kit show at the DuPage County Fairgrounds at Wheaton, IL outside of Chicago. I remember it costing at the time $400.00 (U.S.). Indeed, that was a fair amount back then. I later bought a reproduction stand and props for it from Gary Field and it is to be thankful that the model still has its machined pivot. I also saw another WAL DC-6B Douglas factory model for sale a couple of years earlier at the tri-annual Kane County Toy show at St Charles, IL (in the 1980s-90s that was a great place to buy travel agency model airliners in good shape though not so much anymore. Oh, the stuff I could have bought back then! For example, I recall seeing a Douglas Factory, Standard Airlines 1/50 scale, DC-9-10 (stand and all) in just about mint condition with a price tag of about $350.00... I thought that was too much for a jet). That DC-6B was selling for $250.00 but was pretty much lacking its markings and had some bends in the main wing ("thrashed condition"). I remember some other buyer just beating me to it and being frustrated at not getting it. As it turned out for me a few years later, "Good things come to those who wait." By the way, one of my cats got a really bad case of the "zoomies" two years ago and in so doing knocked my WAL DC-6B from its shelf and it fell top side down about two feet. Thankfully it "landed" on a padded carpet but still sustained a slight bend in left the main wing. Looking forward to selling at the upcoming Chicago Airline Collector's show at the Holiday Inn at Elk Grove, IL on 11-23-2024. "Happy Landings!"
Thank you for sharing your amazing historical experience with these models. It’s fascinating to think that the prices 30 years ago were in fact expensive for the day. May I ask, do you have any Nemoto models that you might consider selling. I understand that Nemoto made Resin Convair 340 and 580 models for North Central.
@@JetFlix I have one Nemoto model (I believe) and that's a USAF Douglas C-54 Skymaster. It's in OK condition, but is lacking most of its landing gear. Still, it looks presentable so being that it's my only one I suppose I'll hang on to it. That's interesting to note that Nemoto also made Resin Convair 340s and 580s for North Central. I have to admit I've never seen one anywhere.
I remember as a child going into BOAC.s ticket office in Toronto many years ago and they had a 10 ft long 747 with the sides cut away to show you the seats in it don't know what it would cost if i could find it but i sure would like it
WOW. Now that is a truly beautiful, supreme scale model of the beloved DC-6B. Just awesome to peer at!!
Such a treat to see an original condition DFM. Thanks for sharing.

Couldn't agree more!
Lovely Henry, I still dream of those tinplate Constellations!
Hi Henry, did you by chance catch the Cargojet 767 overrun at Vancouver? All the best to you!

Looks like, from FAA data, that particular DC-6B was exported to Brazil in the1960/1961 timeframe. Such beautiful markings and scheme!
What A beautiful model. I would love to have the money to buy A Boeing;Douglas Lockheed Orig. promo model and in that condition
do you have any models that are illuminated?
I’ve never owned an illuminated cutaway display model. They are quite rare.

That sounds like an absolutely fabulous model Ron, I hope one day you get to find it.
I recall a cutaway 747 model of that size in a travel agency window in Redwood City CA, when I was a kid. fascinating!
What scale is it?
