I studied Russian in college 40 years ago, and my professors were as enthusiastic about Russian poetry as Fyodor is. Fortunately, channels like Fyodor’s help me remember the Russian I learned long ago.
Fyodor reminds me of my wonderful and enthusiastic Russian professors!
I'm part Russian and I really enjoy your videos! Lately I've been trying to immerse myself even more in this beautiful rich culture in hopes of travelling there in the future and your videos are helping me doing so! Thank you Fedya 😊🌸
My favorite Yesenin poem is «Заметался пожар голубой», it's simply beautiful.
This was incredibly helpul, please keep doing this video format! Russian literature is the whole reason I'm learning the language lol.
always a pleasure to try understanding Russian poetry. 🎉
this was his most famous poem....
Sergey Esenin
The Birch
(Translated by Rupert Moreton)
Under my own window
White is birch’s hue -
Snowy blanket-shadow,
Silver patterned too.
On its fluffy branches
With a snowy hem
Tassels’ blossom blanches -
Fringe’s icy gem.
Standing, birch is yearning,
Silent, sleepy spire,
Falling snow is burning
In its golden fire.
Lazy dawn in wrinkles,
Circling all around,
Now its branches sprinkles -
Newly silver-crowned.
Nice poem, almost 100 years later and his words are more relatable then ever
that was beautiful. I went through the same as Yesenin with Julija.
Pushkin and Pasternak I have. Yesenin is on my list. Great video. Perhaps he's a poet too profound for some modern sensibilities. Yevtushenko said that his poems were not written but rather breathed out of Russian nature. I love this kind of approach to the Russian language. Thanks.
I love Russian literature, hence I love Russian poetry. And as an auntie of my Russian sweetheart, I HAVE TO learn Po-Russki yezik. Bolshoye spasibo tebe & dobro vecher, dear Fedor❣️🙏👍
Ok, Kurdish-Chechen girl
@@safi-sultanbeyli7761 OmG, it's nice to see you (again), Sultan Bey❣️😱

My teacher Fedor is so beautiful 😍
Fyodor, excellent work explaining how important Russian poetry is to Russian people. Your explanation of the poem was perfect and inspiring! I like how you shared your ambition to be able to speak more like a poet - which also helped me understand why poetry is so important to Russian speakers.
I remember when I first understood how Russian was a great language for poetry: the declensions! Russian poets can use almost any word order they want as a result, and rhymes are a lot easier to find than in English.
You conveyed the enthusiasm for Russian poetry beautifully!
I was born in Russia but idk Russia, now I'm studying Russian ❤😊
Thank you, Fedor, for bringing Jesenin. ❤
He was extraordinary in his private life and still is great in his work. As a child, I used to learn his poem "Письмо матери" by heart in my native language at school, and now that I have started learning Russian, I am again enjoying his stanzas in original language immensely.
The next poem of his that I definitely want to learn is "Мне осталась одна забава".
Fedor, thenks a lot for that Esenin's poetry !!!
What a fantastic poem!! Thank you for this.
Please do more videos on poetry !
that is what i was thinking! i like to copy the poem
Sergei Yesenin: I have a dual language (Russian/English) e-book I bought about2 years ago from Amazon with his poems somewhere on one of my systems but cannot find it right now … 😅 I bought it after reading about Yesenin on Wikipedia.
To me it’s obvious this is a poem about a real or imagined prostitute, not someone he cared about. He talks about the kind of fleeting romance someone might need in order to go through with the encounter. The references about sitting in a lap and going down an alley make it feel like this to me. It’s also apparent in the admonition to leave the innocent alone. IF it’s about someone he really loves/d, then it’s bitter because he knows he’s lost her and wants to show it meant nothing to him to hide his pain.
i love yesenin
After Saavedra, Dostoevsky is dearest to my heart.
I'm learning Rlrussian only because of the poetry
I am an Spanish native speaker learning languages. But russian will be the most romantic to me.
Keep up Vedor
Such an interesting video!
Im brazilian and I'm studying russian, I wanna masterize russian, I love the language.
Perfect😊
An interesting poem.
Sad that a modern version would be "she a ho", put to 'music', and repeated until your head explodes.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i am considering doing the 8 week course, anyone else???
I am NOT part RUSSIAN..i am enjoying this❤❤❤❤❤
I liked the poem. Wish you'd explained the use of the word "miss", is it common for English words to be dropped in casually like that?
in this case, the word "miss" is used as a respectful and neutral address to an unfamiliar woman
@@user-jp9fn4ln7d It was strange that it was in Latin rather than Cyrillic script.
He wants to know her body count lol
I Wanna learn Russian bc the Russia girls 😂
We are already annoyed by that. Get a life.
Ah, sounds like he’s talking about a prostitute
On my 3rd or 4th reading I began to think so too.

Thumbs up if you've lost count of how many times you've watched this video!
The poem does not sound right. It must be read low and with more feeling.
