- A spontaneous encounter evolved into a warm conversation and a peek into the preparation of his recital Anima Aeterna in Bologna (Chiesa dei Santi Bartolomeo e Gaetano). He reflects on his recent repertoire, the development of his career and the awareness of living in challenging times (Covid, Ukraine).
With the Pomo d'Oro Ensemble - highly valued for their authentic interpretations of Baroque repertoire - directed by Francesco Corti.
It's actually super cute how you can witness an opera singing just singing his lungs out whilst wearing a hoodie - like - I just can't get over our day and age haha

He’s certainly the least media shy countertenor ever. He is simultaneously casual, open and fun. Classical artists normally are closed books. Whatever you may deduce by meeting them, that will never shout “free Palestine” 😂😂😂 just the thought…
But JJO's been caught just picking up an aria with a local pianist in a Polish airport. He brought the airport to a standstill ! He sang a videotaped, radio appearance in funky summer clothing and sneakers. The pianist wore flip flops. Classical performers normally have very carefully crafted personae with interviews only granted to certain journalists. This is what makes JJO so unique. He has, additionally, perhaps the greatest countertenor voice of his generation.
Others at the top of the countertenor heap have Herculean skills, wonderful personalities, great beauty, but what JJO has is his openness in a, generally, very closed off world

What an elegant and superb singer and character. I first heard him in that viral video in Aix en Provence with Frederic Lodeon's program, so beautiful and funny in his shorts. I fell in love (platonically of course)...
I love the way he gently descends into his lower register. I can't think of any other countertenor who does this. Magnificent.

He opened as Orpheus at the SF Opera tonight. The first minute of his performance was him break dancing. Tremendous.

There are so many different ways and paths. Your idea of success is yours, maybe not mine. Self tought people are beautifully natural. Both are to be respected.

I’m sorry, but what poor taste/discernment for a singer of Mr. Orlinski’s stature to walk into a church - a sacred place - wearing/advertising “BOSS.” This, in my opinion, is not “cool”/“awesome.” Shame on you, sir. At your age, you should know better. I wonder if “BOSS” put Mr. Orlinski up to this and how much he was paid. And, what a poor example, sir, you are setting for young people. I hope these remarks help.
But he dresses like this every day. It wasn't a concert in front of an audience. NB. He wears clothes including Boss (🥰Is there anyone who will forbid a rich man?).
For goodness sake... Many people wear very well known brands and how do you know that Jakub was paid for this? If you do not know, do not say. What is wrong with wearing a hoodie in a church (many people do)? Especially when he comes, basically, to work, not to a service... Please do not be so petty, try to encourage young people to come to church even wearing a hoodie as churches become emptier and emptier nowadays and that's partly due to the attitude you present... Open the gates of the church to EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO COME!
In my opinion Andreas Scholl, Philippe Jaroussky are at a clearly higher level than him, and have incredible voices by extension and color. I find it mediocre, not a great countertenor.
He is 31 Jarousski is 44 is Scholl is 54 . It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next 10 years .
@@frogmouth The tone and color of the voice are natural qualities that must then be worked on. Philippe Jaroussky, Scholl, Damian Guillon at 30 already had a formed voice and I would say complete, even if they have always improved the performance. I find Orlinsky's voice very banal and characterless, the interpretation flat. he doesn't have a great voice and I don't think he's going to make any big improvements in 10 years or even 20.

Voice is one thing, expression, charisma - it's another. He wins over the latter element. If only the perfect sound was important, imagine what music producers would overwhelm us with, using the now very efficient speech / singing synthesizers. NB Andreas Scholl is great and legendary, I can't say that about the second one you mentioned.
