NOTE: not included were the Thunder beast bipod (don't own one), and the Warne Skyline which I received just too late to add to this video. A seperate review will be coming on the Warne by itself. What bipod do you use and why?
I've got the Thunder beast, atlas cal, warne skyline and double pull ckye light weight. I usually recommend the Atlas BT65 Cal as a arca first bipod "top tier" bipod at a pretty decent cost. It is bulletproof reliable and you won't "outgrow it". The Thunder Beast has quickly become my favorite. And the double pull ckye pod has its advantages and disadvantages based on its size, but performs well in a lot of applications. The warne skyline is good bipod but gets the least use from me out of the four of them.
Great review and thanks for including our Tactical bipod, it doesn't surprise us how well it performed! It has always shoot very well, especially for the size and weight. This is our Gen 1 Tactical bipod which was originally developed for and with elite SF groups. It has since evolved with an updated leg design and taking in our improved SmoothCam QD system. The cant can be locked off with a Podlock or our tilt tension key.
Big fan of Accu-Tac for bench type work as well. Also agreed the Magpul isn't the best for that job but the one thing I like about it is the ability to pan that very few other options offer. Of course, panning isn't something most folks will need but it's an interesting feature IMO.
I’m a Harris guy just because they always work and I’ve taken a lot of animals with it in use, I like it’s simplicity and it always seems to work in the cold up here in AK. That being said I havnt used any other bipods so it’s informative to watch you review them. Great job
I am intrigued by the group with the Magpul as i used to use mine on a 22-250 periodically when shooting prone. When bench-shooting with that same gun, and utilizing a very stable front and rear rest, the groups were always better. It honestly never occured to me that it could be the bipod because it preloads perfectly fine. That Magpul is now used on a .22 rimfire just to let my kids and grandchildren enjoy when at the range with me. Think I'll let it stay right there. Thanks for taking the time to put together this video. Good stuff as always.
UK viewer here and great breakdown, thanks. I have a Tier One Tacticle and love it, the engineering is excellent, I also have an Atlas but do prefer the Tier one as feels slicker andput together better. Again thanks for sharing.
Good content as always. It was nice to see a whole bunch of options all together, side by side. Don't always get to see more than 2 or 3 options in a store. You'll have to get a TBAC at some point for when you do the next bipod round-up in a couple years.
Little mod for the TierOne bipod: place a rubber ring before the cant-crank and you'll be able to tune the desired resistance very easy and also it will stay that way
Concerning the Magpul, first the screw that attaches the leg to the yoke needs to be tightened until there is no lash between the the leg and the yoke. This doesn’t inhibit the legs from folding at all. Second if you take a belt sander and grind the feet so there is a flat spot for them to rest on when the bipod is deployed it makes a huge difference in the performance of the magpul. Still not as good as the Warne I use most of the time but definitely a big improvement over stock.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I recently found your videos and recognize one of the ranges you shoot at, scrivener. I originally found you because you had Altus build you a rifle. I also just had Altus build a rifle with the Terminus Zeus action in 300 PRC and 7mm PRC. I'm from Jeff City and really have enjoyed your videos!!!
I think weight of the rifle and caliber/recoil are two of the main factors with the next being adjustability on weird angle platforms if your shooting will include such possible use cases. A lot of difference shooting a 8 lb .22lr rifle versus shooting a 18+lb .300WM in what you are asking out of the construction and tolerance levels of an attached bipod.
I only have 1 bi-pod…a pic mount Atlas. I recently moved it from my AR10 platform over to my AR15. Eventually, I’ll get a second Atlas for the other AR. Very happy with it in any case. I’ve only really spent any serious bench time with it on my AR15 at 50 yards with my Aimpoint PRO. I need to replace the crappy scope on my AR10 with something different.
I run the MDT grndpod. It was a definite upgrade from my previous picatinny mounted folder. It also didn’t break the bank but had everything I needed as far as can’t adjustment and quickly adjustable leg height.
Great content as always, if someone wants a bipod that doesn’t break the bank, they should look at FAB Defense Spike Precision Bipod. It is a very solid and doesn’t have slop.
Been looking for a bipod for my AR10, and went for the Atlas CAL g2 and probably going to be satisfied with those. have had Atlas bipods(V8) before a long time ago. Use a Ckye pod on my PRS rifle tho for the same reasons mentioned in the video, just awesome adjustability.
I have a POF revolution DI 18.5" .308 and I need a BIPOD and a different scope and suppressor, its so loud and powerful with the stock muzzle break, I had no IDEA how loud it was from watching videos on youtube, not a single video of the 20+ i watched give you any idea of the power and volume this rifle produces, my 29DB rated ear protection does little to help, i can feel the concussion in my mouth and head and it moves me a little while shooting, I dont grip the rifle tightly as I shot archery for many many years and you dont grip a bow tightly at all, actually the opposite, so I was doing the same to transfer as little movement as possible to the dot in scope and it was SLAMMING my shoulder and my trigger finger was getting scrapped by the rifle, something on the side was getting my finger good from the grip I was holding with. I want a suppressor that makes it much quieter and less recoil, dont care much about flash hider, I just want less noise and recoil, I want to be able to spot shots and not feel it in my soul every time I fire.
"Over built" is a good description of Accu-Tac. "Built like a tank" is the most common description. They are investments which will last generations for sure. The build quality is second to none imo. Quite heavy though, if that is a factor.
I have just watched a number of programmes on bipods. All very good and all saying the same which is great. Rigidity was one of the key features which I understand but nothing was said about the feet and the effect they can have on accuracy.
I love MDT products. With that being said all three models of their bipods cost double what they should. While some of the features are cool, I have yet to see a situation on a PRS stage where I had to walk away and not shoot it because I didn't have one. I'll stick with Atlas.
I'm a short shooter. A couple of years ago in the national championships, I had two stages where I lost about 20 seconds each because it took me too long to adjust the legs of the Atlas I was using. Since this was a world championship qualifier as well, that really hurt. With the ckyepod, I can do the same adjustments much faster and I don't have to let go of the pistol grip.
Yea im pretty big as frame and size and magpull dressing on ar is great such as but stock and pistol grip. But good to know on bipod. I bought a caldwell and spring loaded it okay but it is better as a hold gun while i do light repair or changes on gun. Thanks for the info sir.
Great vid and a new sub as a result. One comment I have is why only bring a 'certain amount of ammo'? It never hurts to have extra on hand...Maybe its me but I guess I'd be what you call 'ammo retentive'....haha...I HATE RUNNING OUT OF AMMO WHEN I WANT TO SHOOT! I usually bring at least 200 rounds of different rifle ammo, or 500 rounds of pistol ammo with me whenever I go shooting for a day... just in case!
Thanks for the comment and especially the subscribe! When I’m traveling to this range in Florida, and I live in Missouri, it comes down to weight and space in the car. 👍
Great comparison. I like the Accu-Tac WB-4 for bench shooting. MDT is WAY over priced no matter how versatile it is, and Magpul, as you say, should stay in their lane.
I like to use Phoenix precision bipod for my load development and sighting in tho it’s heavy bulky and looks more like it’s a set of skis then a true bipod it is super stable tho
I recognize that range your at...nice comparison video. I've seen better/different results with different bipods also. My go to bipod is ckye-pod double pull. I also have the new tier 1 tactical bipod. It's solid. I also noticed slip on the cant leveler because the lever moves. I added an extra flat washer and an O ring between the flat washer and the plastic washer they supply. It stopped getting loose.
Love the video but I just wish you had given the weights of the bipods and how they felt shooting. Because we all know not every bipod shoots or feels the same. But as I said another great video.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I looked these and it is beyond my comprehension that there are bipods that cost $800. And here I was finding difficult to justify spending a $130 on a Harris.
I have an accutac benchrest model and I honestly dont care for it super heavy super stiff....it just doesnt let the rifle recoil the way i want it to....testing the warne light now...its pretty perfect for a gas gun....not sure how precise it will be.
Great video.... as usual. I don't think the difference in bipods has anything to do with accuracy or precision of the rifle platform. As you've shown they all provide just about the same accuracy on target. I think the biggest difference is how they address recoil. The second biggest is how it grips the surface you're shooting from. Some bipods SUCK for helping to control recoil and will often bounce and flex in strange ways, and some really help to calm down the recoil to allow you to see your impacts, even at close range. Being able to see your impacts at 100-200 yards is what really separates the quality of bipods and how they behave under recoil. Most bipods allow you to see your impacts at 400 and beyond, but the real test is seeing your recoil inside of 200 yards. Now that's doing something. Re-run your test using a scope cam and study how each manages recoil differently.
I've been using the mdt grnd pod because i can't afford the higher end options. It seems to be pretty good, but what are other folks thinking about it?
@PrecisionRifleNetwork I'm also curious about the audere shadow bipod that mk machining is importing. I know y'all have a relationship, so it would be cool to get an overview of both of those options for those of us just starting out in the prs world. There's so little info on the audere more in depth coverage would be helpful to choose between those 2 since they run about the same and mk sells both.
I see you are using the ColeTac Woobie bag. I have one in tan and love it. I am huge ColeTac fan. As for tripods. [If] I was shooting PRS or ELR matches, I would definitely consider the MDT CKYE Pod, but I am not shooting competitively and $800 to $1100 dollars is too much money for the type of shooting I am doing and frankly I don't think that it needs to be that expensive. I do have the MDT GRND POD, which is right at $200 and I love it. Everything that you said about the MagPul tripod is absolutely true. However, it does have advantages. a. it is very inexpensive. b. It is extremely light. c. It has full pan and tilt capability and lastly the legs are easy to deploy. I would never use mine on a precious rifle, but on an AR where you aren't shooting off the bipod most the time, I love them. I have a Tiptop tripod, which is a Harris knockoff. I paid $69 for it on Amazon and it is an amazing tripod, especially for the price. I have an ACCU-TAC SR5. It is a nice bipod, but the legs are just a little to long for bench shooting. Lastly I have a UTG Recon Flex bipod set. I call them a set because they aren't a single unit. The legs mount individually to the sides of your front rail. You can get them in Keymod or MLOK. On Amazon they are only $54 and they are amazing for that price. I use them on an AR10 PSR and absolutely love them. They don't tilt or pan but they are rock steady with easy pull out legs and adjust from 180 to 45 degrees. By the way, thank you for telling us that UTG stands for "under the gun." I didn't know that and appreciate the info. I really appreciate you making the video. It was really informative.
I feel like you would use and love the accutac br4 g2 your wide stance version is to much.. I was a diehard atlas user until I got the br4 g2 and I think they are both amazing bipods
Aren't you the guy that stopped me in the range parking lot and asked, "Hey, buddy, want to buy a good used bi-pod?" 😉 Seriously, thanks for the work you put into this comparison and video. I appreciate your perspective on each product.
each to their own really, but generally speaking you don't load heavy into bipods anymore. Minimal pressure. just enough to control the recoil impulse.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork and I can not be that guy saying a Magpul even is in the same category as accutac or even atlas but I can concur for a bolt gun it’s hard to be on team Magpul. But appreciate the content and response tbh
So basically they are all the same except maybe the magpul. Looks like all of em are just dispersion variability. I thought the atlas would improve something over the harris, but from the bench I shot better groups with the harris, although the barrel was newer.
I can’t believe people still buy the magpul one. Dozens of videos about it being floppy, hundreds of complaints online, but still not willing to spend a couple bucks more for something that will greatly affect your shooting. Don’t buy that plastic crap!
Maybe the newer ones are better than the old ones but I just got one and am pretty pleased with it for the money. I have multiple atlas bipods also. For the money I think they are good.
Yeah they said the same to me when I first saw this bipod at shotshow. It’s just ignorance. They didn’t consult knowledgeable people before designing this thing.
Nice comparisons. I shoot my Magpuls just fine, but I'd probably be better served with better gear.... eh, some day. Thanks for sharing the info. Both my 6.5s are sub MOA with Magpuls. One thought, the heaviest of my 2 only weights 11 lbs with a 20 rd magazine. I wonder if your rigs weight is just too much for the hub on the Magpul?
Maybe you do not have a bias against the Magpul bipods like many do or maybe because you shoot more than one 5 shot group to determine quality of ammo and equipment.
I agree on the Teir One. Everything is solid except the Cant lock. Just one brass washer fixed the hold bipod. The washer they give you is plastic??? On a beautiful CF/AL bipod. Accu-tac WB-4 is awesome just big and bulky for rifles, but great for top heavy air rifles and bench rest. Everything UTG sells is garbage returned that instantly. That's all I know.
It would be better to see frame of ur scope each time u have different bipod , to see how much reticle moves , how stable they are. Instead of spotting scope.
I hear what you're saying, but also the group sizes on paper are an indication that the bipods don't matter that much. (the magpul being the exception). They were all so close that you wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.
The Magpul is kinda trash, if your budget is $100 just get a Harris. I’ve run the Atlas CAL the few years for PRS. Last season I broke my CAL and Atlas replaced it within a week. That said, for 2024 I sold my CAL and picked up an Accu-Tac. It’s a freakin tank
So the results show that the bipod outside of the Magpul makes no difference. So the $100 Harris shoots the same off a bench as the significantly more expensive tacticool options. Good to know.
The Magpul obviously wasn't designed as a precision bipod & really doesn't belong in this review. My opinion is it would be best served on a lightweight hunting rifle or just plinking on a tight budget. I have a GG&G on one precision rifle & a MDT grndpod on the other, the GG&G is a simple sturdy bipod that I've had for many years & just works. The grndpod has a few extra features than the GGG,but won't break the bank, unlike it's sibling the ckyepod, that has all the extra fancy hoopdee features, but is $800+,& at the end of the day I'm not paying that much for 2 sticks that fold
That magpul. People buy them because they're in every store. Twice people have asked me what bipod to get, I've warned them about magpuls, then the next time we shoot they have a magpul they picked up at academy.
Ukrainian guys who are serve as snipers on the current Russian-Ukrainian war praise Magpul bipods. At least I was told to buy Magpul but not Harris when I packed a gift for a couple of them. I don't know why.
they are tripping charging 300-700 dollars for a stand for your rifle, literally holding your rifle up and costs as much as some very good uppers or a few reliable accurate rifles.
Accuracy test was completely meaningless, as displayed by the 2 Atlas groups. Too small of sample size to matter. Your impressions are more important. Thank you for the video.
I just picked up my second fab defense spike bipod which works well for me doing some bench and some prone shooting! A lot better than the Magpul in my opinion which I also own. Just wish I could change out the feet which you can do with the Magpul but the spike comes with 2 inch extensions!

I'm a Atlas CAL guy, I think I'll get another but the tall version. The RRS clamp is a must have for me.
I use a Accu-Tac PC-4, upgraded from Magpul. Seemed like a good compromise to the MDT Ckye pod at $400 vs $1000🤷🏻♂️
I use the Warne Skyline, plan on getting their new "light" model too. Also have a Harris on a Arisaka pic slider which is neat

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I looked these and it is beyond my comprehension that there are bipods that cost $800.
And here I was finding difficult to justify spending a $130 on a Harris.
@@badmatt4227 800?? Man I thought spending 350 was high.
I have an accutac benchrest model and I honestly dont care for it super heavy super stiff....it just doesnt let the rifle recoil the way i want it to....testing the warne light now...its pretty perfect for a gas gun....not sure how precise it will be.
Sweet. The Warne seems nice too. Thanks for watching.
I do one shot groups. Accuracy is usually amazing 😅
LOL valid
Thanks for watching.
Has anyone tried the cadex falcon lite? I am looking at a accutac but have had a couple people say they love the cadex. Can’t find much on it
I have not tried that one. Sorry.
My favorite bipod isn’t even on this list! GG&G Heavy Duty XDS. Another cool option is the Versa Pod.
Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Wide and sturdy. Swivels are for machine guns.
I use an XAegistac Mlock for $34 bucks. Works awesome.
cool, I agree about swivels. thanks for watching.
Where is the Warne bipod? .
really wanna see that vs. The other top stuff.
check out my pinned comment at the top please.
I've been using the mdt grnd pod because i can't afford the higher end options. It seems to be pretty good, but what are other folks thinking about it?
I really should pick up one of the grnd pods. I've been hearing good things about it.
@@maker_greg you bet! I can make that happen.
Thanks for watching and for the comment.
What cartridge are you shooting? Did you just rip through test or was there any cooling period between bipods? Thanks Joel!
This in a 6GT. I cut the video so as to not waste time. There was actually enough time between strings of fire for the barrel to cool down a bit.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I figured, was just curious. Thanks.
@@jasonrad9332 yep, thx for watching.
I feel like you would use and love the accutac br4 g2 your wide stance version is to much.. I was a diehard atlas user until I got the br4 g2 and I think they are both amazing bipods
Right on, thx.
Great informative video, what range are you at?
Thanks. that's Altus in Florida
Is there any advantage to moving the bipod closer to you?
in certain situations, yes. For the most part, no. The further out forward the bipod goes, the more stable the rifle becomes.
Maybe improvements to that benchtop could improve things, kinda like running a Porsche down a dirt road
I’m not sure that would make any difference. The bullet is already out of the barrel. But I’m guessing. I haven’t tested that specifically.
You shooting NRL22 at Altus this weekend!?
No. I wish. This video was shot back in December when I was down there.
Aren't you the guy that stopped me in the range parking lot and asked, "Hey, buddy, want to buy a good used bi-pod?" 😉
Seriously, thanks for the work you put into this comparison and video. I appreciate your perspective on each product.
LOL yep, thanks for watching
hi mate ,whats bipod best for budget ?
probably the Harris
many thanks
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork
what is your opinion about Pristine rifle action ?@@PrecisionRifleNetwork
Is loading a bipod from a bench a thing of the past? I gotta be that guy who chooses magpul over the Harris.
each to their own really, but generally speaking you don't load heavy into bipods anymore.
@@C_oprator89 thanks for watching!
So basically they are all the same except maybe the magpul. Looks like all of em are just dispersion variability. I thought the atlas would improve something over the harris, but from the bench I shot better groups with the harris, although the barrel was newer.
yeah from the bench they are all fairly equal, with some exceptions. Thanks for watching.
sbrm master race. (Modified for arca and with a pod loc at least)
Thanks for watching.
Where do you get those target dots?
I usually buy mine from Amazon or midwayusa.
Magpul is like an airsoft grade bipod
I agree
what chassis is this?
Aero Precision
My only question I have for you is . All of your loads hand loads?
Negative. These are factory.
I can’t believe people still buy the magpul one. Dozens of videos about it being floppy, hundreds of complaints online, but still not willing to spend a couple bucks more for something that will greatly affect your shooting. Don’t buy that plastic crap!
Yep. Thanks for watching.
Magpul bipod is designed to have that flex. You load into it. It's also made for hunting. Not benchrest. Just some FYI for the clueless ones here.
My magpul bipod has served me well on my AR for years. I think as far as 100 dollar bipods go it performs above its price point.
@donniV1224 exactly. Just a little bias bullshit here.
Maybe the newer ones are better than the old ones but I just got one and am pretty pleased with it for the money. I have multiple atlas bipods also. For the money I think they are good.
Magpul swears thats the way it's supposed to be
Yeah they said the same to me when I first saw this bipod at shotshow. It’s just ignorance. They didn’t consult knowledgeable people before designing this thing.
Why are my rifles consistently sub-moa 5 shot groups with a Magpul bipod? Seriously.
You're probably a better shooter than me.
Doubtful. I did notice your's had tons more play than mine. Mine are Mlok and sling stud mounts which may be the difference.@@PrecisionRifleNetwork
@@ScottsMarineInc- yeah maybe it's a tightness issue, but I made sure to check mine for that. Now you got me wondering if I have a faulty bipod. lol
I think you know a lot! thanks for watching.
Nothing from Caldwell? ;)
ha guilty. that's another one I don't own, but probably should have been included.
...well now I'm second guessing myself...I might need to dig around because I might actually have one from them.
Thanks 👍
No problem 👍
The Magpul is kinda trash, if your budget is $100 just get a Harris. I’ve run the Atlas CAL the few years for PRS. Last season I broke my CAL and Atlas replaced it within a week. That said, for 2024 I sold my CAL and picked up an Accu-Tac. It’s a freakin tank
Cool. Thanks for the comment.
@@billbee235 I agree . I’m useing mine for my lil 22 rifle instead of my AR 😎 works good on the 22Lr
I have an atlas and an accutac. Accutac is alot more solid for shooting long range. No weeble wobble in the legs
cool. thanks for the comment.
So the results show that the bipod outside of the Magpul makes no difference. So the $100 Harris shoots the same off a bench as the significantly more expensive tacticool options. Good to know.
Yes basically
The Magpul obviously wasn't designed as a precision bipod & really doesn't belong in this review. My opinion is it would be best served on a lightweight hunting rifle or just plinking on a tight budget. I have a GG&G on one precision rifle & a MDT grndpod on the other, the GG&G is a simple sturdy bipod that I've had for many years & just works. The grndpod has a few extra features than the GGG,but won't break the bank, unlike it's sibling the ckyepod, that has all the extra fancy hoopdee features, but is $800+,& at the end of the day I'm not paying that much for 2 sticks that fold
thanks for watching
Area 419, four one nine! Lol its our telephone area code. Hearing four nineteen is silly 😝
Yep 👍
Dang so many haters … you will never win the internet
facts.
That magpul. People buy them because they're in every store. Twice people have asked me what bipod to get, I've warned them about magpuls, then the next time we shoot they have a magpul they picked up at academy.
I feel this in my bones...why do people ask someone more knowledgeable for advice and then not take it? So strange to me.
I would guess that human error and differences in ammo load would have greater implications on accuracy than the bipod.
yes probably
My backpack works as good as any of these bipods.
fair point. I actually should have included that.
Ukrainian guys who are serve as snipers on the current Russian-Ukrainian war praise Magpul bipods. At least I was told to buy Magpul but not Harris when I packed a gift for a couple of them. I don't know why.
honestly I would say, ignorance. they simply don't know what they don't know. But hey, if it's working for them, then who am I to downplay that?
Magpul bibod is crap had two for some reason ended up selling both. Run the budget mdt grnd pod it they work great very stable unlike the magpul
Cool. Thanks for watching.
they are tripping charging 300-700 dollars for a stand for your rifle, literally holding your rifle up and costs as much as some very good uppers or a few reliable accurate rifles.
I hear you, but at the same time some people are praying $50,000 for designer shotguns.
Accuracy test was completely meaningless, as displayed by the 2 Atlas groups. Too small of sample size to matter. Your impressions are more important. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching.
I just picked up my second fab defense spike bipod which works well for me doing some bench and some prone shooting! A lot better than the Magpul in my opinion which I also own. Just wish I could change out the feet which you can do with the Magpul but the spike comes with 2 inch extensions!
cool thanks for watching.
