    Derwent also make round pencils which apparently have a thicker graphite core, but I'm not sure whether there is any difference otherwise. It might be worth trying to find some of their other pencils such as pastels, Inktense, Graphitone etc.
    If you ever come to England they've got a pencil museum in the Lake District (yes, really!)

    Morning (Afternoon?!) Flower : - ..... **I'm really glad my knackered back woke me up early today!!**.
    I hope you're well - certainly looking so - and, enjoying the Kiwi summer versus the currently 3 to 4 degrees C we're experiencing here in the U.K..... I'd rather be down there with you at the moment to be honest. Arthritis prefers warm and sunny days..... (!)
    Anyway Leila - Thanks a lot for the mention, and, it's great to see the pencils in action, with a Pro, not just a scribbler like me!!!.
    Bye Chuck, Nick x

      Thank you :) yes it's nice and warm over here now but still on the cooler side for this time of the year. Unfortunately humidity can be as bad for arthritis as cold. If it gets bellow 0 it might snow in UK 😊

    • @LeilaAtaya
      @LeilaAtaya  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have a variety of FC graphite pencils don't worry about the Derwent especially being in NZ - shipment just adds that extra layer of expense 😊

    • @LeilaAtaya
      @LeilaAtaya  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a similar story here, you go to stationary you'll see FC pencils (colour, graphite etc) you go to art shops same. Another popular one these days is Cretacolour, I think it's an Austrian brad.

  • @caw25sha

    I've just been reading about pencil grades on Wikipedia (as you do 😃) and it says
    "Manufacturers distinguish their pencils by grading them, but there is no common standard. Two pencils of the same grade but different manufacturers will not necessarily make a mark of identical tone nor have the same hardness".
    So you'll probably find that Faber Castell and Derwent pencils of the same hardness have different H or B numbers.

    • @LeilaAtaya
      @LeilaAtaya  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that was one of the things I wanted to test. And it was a little different. But also the feel on the paper was different too. 😊

    • @blaser80
      @blaser80 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I use mechanical pencils a lot and there is a distinct difference between brands, additionally European gradients tend to be much lighter than say those from Japan i.e. a Staedler 2B is lighter than a Pentel 2B, in fact it's even lighter than a Pentel HB. I tend to prefer the darker tones, guess it's be they are softer and require a lighter touch.

    • @LeilaAtaya
      @LeilaAtaya  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blaser80 Absolutely! if getting into a new brand it's always a good idea to either watch reviews first or get a sample. Just because they say the same thing they can be very different. Darker, softer pencils are a must for drawings I think. It's hard to achieve good contrast other wise.🙂

    4h -> 4b steadtler, 4b -> 8b faber castell, 8b -> steadtler black or charcoal faber castell: Derwent pencils disappointed me, the tips break very easily, very similar shades between B's

    • @LeilaAtaya
      @LeilaAtaya  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing your opinion. It's been some time now since I've filmed this and I keep using both brands but I've noticed that for serious shading and drawing I tend to reach out for Faber Castell somehow. I mean it could also be because I've used FC for so long before I even tried Derwent and we tend to go for things we are used to.

    They are so close. I wonder if the normal variations within the same brand is that noticable?

    • @LeilaAtaya
      @LeilaAtaya  ปีที่แล้ว

      There usually isn't that much difference in the same brand unless they are different lines and designed for different purpose. But I guess any company would be making adjustments to their recipes over time so pencils from 20 years ago may have a variation to a more contemporary one. - I'm guessing here really :)
