I knew Peter very well. He and I became quite close friends after we appeared in a show in the West End together. Lovely man. Very gentle & very professional. I was in admiration of him.
I used to work in Barnes London where he lived. One day I passed him in the street and he gave me a lovely smile. From that day I thought " What a nice fellow "
The scene between Leonard Rossiter(RIGSBY) and Peter Bowles( HILARY) - came from the hit UK SitCom - Rising Damp - "Stage Struck"-1977 - Series 3 - EPISODE 2 ( within this = you can see it @19 minutes and 34 seconds). Peter Bowles, AFTER THAT ONE PERFORMANCE ALONE - SHOULD HAVE BEEN INVITED TO BECOME - THE 5TH MEMBER OF THE - RISING DAMPTEAM. HIS PERFORMANCE WAS THAT GOOD....He also played the role of Archie - so brilliantly - in the hit UK SIT COM CALLED - ONLY WHEN I LAUGH....What an actor Peter Bowles was
Should have been Sir Leonard Rossiter one of this country's finest actor's straight and comedic. Richard Briers is/was a natural a remarkable talent incredibly switched on bright and intelligent in every role he played.
There were loads of smiles, it's just in your head... Just because people back then were more reserved and didn't woop and laugh like an hyena or clap like demented seals like they do know, doesn't make them creepy!

Absolute gentleman loyal and discreet, that said he didn't suffer fools but who does and why would he. Miss him so much.
@@camillawybrants5757 Possibly because they were aware of what was about to unfold 😊

Michael Whitehall (Jack Whitehall's father) over Éamonn Andrews's shoulder at 1:52.
I came across MW many years ago. Save to say, Peter Bowles was a lot nicer!
Thanks for pointing it out. Why on earth was he there talking to Bowles
20:24 CLASSIC 😂😂
What a very bizarre rather creepy lot stood around at the initial surprise! No applause or warm smiles*(well not that I noticed anyway)
