    $1250 in 1960 (the paper said 60 not 68) is about 11000 dollars today, so, it just retained its value.

  • @andrewpersico4292
    @andrewpersico4292 4 ปีที่แล้ว +134

    That didn’t go up value whatsoever... it’s the same value as it was it 1968, purchased for $1,250. Due to inflation, that would cost $9,124 in today’s dollars. It did not increase in value at all. It only remained it’s value since 1968.

      Unique pieces like this are hard to appraise and are rarely the sum of the appraisal of the elements they are made of... this is why you will always see them sell at wildly different prices at auction than appraisal, and value will come from the history of the piece rather than what it is made of... Whats more, they will wildly vary from one auction to another depending on who is bidding at the time .. that being said, i think he was generous in his appraisal of this one, because it has no particular historical significance (i.e. owned by someone important, or was made for special edition or occasion, or was one of a kind, etc). Also if you estimate the amount of gold, platinum in it, its not much, so that shouldn't factor in big, its not particularly a heavy piece...so now we come to the diamonds and pearls...this will depend on the size and quality...and no one here can tell by just looking at the video...and finally, a pre-owned Patek can be had for as low as $2500, so that also shouldn't bump up the price unless it has an iconic movement or something... overall there isn't one thing standing out of extremely high value, but overall a good quality jewellery that's antique and is probably worth 8-10 grands

    • @altair1983
      @altair1983 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      or that it was accurately assessed initially :) thou, truth to be told, it's is very difficult to say how much money that would be today. i wouldn't say it lost value, more like it kept value well -the nature of the things is that in general (almost) everything looses value (heck, it's old!). I like when people say how much they paid initially (if they paid) and how much was that back then-in real money. (there was an example of soldier saying his rolex cost him about 20% more than his monthly wage in 1960s, which roughly give-or-take is what you would pay for rolex now.

    • @DJogdog
      @DJogdog 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In ~1960 a new Rolex Submariner or GMT Master would run you around ~$100USD, today that amount is equal to ~$870USD. (I think a Submariner would have been 5 - 10 bucks cheaper, so my estimate is the mean between the two)
      A new Submariner or GMT Master in SS today would be ~$10,000 USD (GMT Master is more expensive than Subby).

    I am amazed how many comments are suggesting this piece is worth more... for it to be worth more it has to either have some history, or was the only one made of its kind, or has some big high quality diamonds... but being vintage or antique by itself will not warrant significant value without it being rare or had been owned or made for someone important... looking at this piece...its light weight so the gold and platinum in it won't probably exceed 1-2 grands...the pre-owned patek can be as low as 2 grands unless it was one of their top movements...and the diamonds + pearls here don't seem to be of rarity or size that warrant more than 2-3 grands...so my guess is, his appraisal is fair if not generous...but then all of that doesn't matter because at auction if two people with deep pockets want it bad enough, through that appraisal out of the window
