I just tested it. Tamron is better. It's significantly sharper at 75 and has a little nicer "macro", it has similar bokeh and it is generally very good lens. I chose Sigma at the end of the day only because it's form factor. The only real issue of Tamron is it is bigger (although when on 70-75mm they are almost the same length since tamron protrudes less forward - it shifts the first focal lengths inside the body) and heavier. Then the focus ring didn't feel that snappy as it does with Sigma which I didn't like but it still worked great and I was able to MF 100% sharp with no issue. Tamron is better weather sealed and you can feel it from the first time you hook it on the body. I almost thought it is faulty cause it was harder to lock it on the mount for the first time how the seal was tight. Tamron also doesn't creep out as easily as Sigma. When tamron is on 28, no matter how fast or hard you shake it, it keeps the lens inside when sigma can pull out a little bit when you shake it really and I mean REALLY hard. You can also pull it out by hand which you cannot do with tamron (and I advice not to do so). What is interesting tho is that Tamron had some dust from the start on the front elements. Sigma is completely dust free. Don't know how they did it but has probably something to do with the holes right under the first glass. If you look at Sigma from the front, you can see like 3 dark dots which are actually holes which I believe function as air vents when the elements are moving inside and somehow prevents the lens to suck the dust in as it happened with 24-70 (and obviously happens with Tamron). Interesting design. I also prefer the sigma AF toggle switch, but Tamron has programable button which can be really important for someone. It also has programmable focus ring and you can change from linear to digital focusing for example or set it on aperture.
Finally pulled the trigger and purchased the Sony A7 IV, wow! What a camera!. My very first full frame lens is the Tamron 28-70mm G2 version. What a great combo! It’s even my very first one and I love it!

For me it just didn't felt right, balanced sort of speak with the A7III body so I went with sigma, but it is really good lens. Sigma has a better focus ring (which is hardly a deciding factor, but feels better and more natural when operating) and Tamron sucks dust under the front element.
A while ago you reviewed the Sigma 28-70 contemporary. And in fact you preferred it over the first generation Tamron 28-75 enough that you said you were switching to the Sigma. I’d love to know which you’d prefer now. … the Sigma 28-70 or the Tamron 28-75 G2.

The old Tamron lens only had problems when opening wide aperture at 2.8, I know you were going to say that but for some reason you just showed that picture FIRST 🤭, to me the picture of your baby with white shirt is enough to see Tamron has improved lenses and coatings 😆. Thanks so much Arthur
A 28-75mm on apsc would be a 42-112mm, I d advise against it, it's absolutely not wide enough to be an all-rounder like this lenses is designed to be when paired with a full frame camera
Thanks for the review. I've been shooting with the original since it came out in all sorts of shoots from portraits, headshots, food, etc and it's worked well for me. I do not see a huge advantage for someone that owns this lens to upgrade. It has worked flawless on the 7lll and 7R4. I would recommend this lens all day . I would also recommend the wide angle 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD as another lens for wide work.

@@scottcampbell9479 Tamron is my preferred lens chair but have had Sigma in the past as well which I believe are also good bang for the buck. You can always go rent them at a local camera shop or test the there as well. Get a used Tamron if someone is upgrading as there is nothing wrong with the first version.
Got the FF Sigma 24-70 on sale. I too primarily shoot crop Sony with Sigma primes out of pure lightweight and low bulk convenience, but I’m picking up the a7iv for low light and indoor stuff around the home.

It weird, but I prefer shooting on my A6100. That's the camera I grab most often if I am just running around and taking pictures. Part of the problem with the A7C is it doesnt have any custom buttons, which makes it a little inconvenient to access quick functions.
@@ArthurR makes sense, that I'm leaning towards the A7iii or IV over the A7C. I really like my A6600 but need/want and 2nd shooter as the beer half is using the A6600 more and more. The A7C is a great camera but I think for most people the A6000 series or the A7iii/iv are the better choice for most people.

Both are good, and the Sigma 28-70 is even a little cheaper. The sigma has a stepper motor while this Tamron has a linear motor. In terms of autofocus speed I think the Tamron is better. In terms of sharpness, I think they are equivalent. I sold my Sigma 28-70 and I bought the Tamron 28-75 G2, so take that for what its worth :)

I think It'd be odd as the focal length would become much tighter.. reaching out that the point of those lenses is going from a standard wide to standard telephoto, which would be lost using a ff lens of that kind on apsc. Outside of that maybe the apsc testing uncompared by itself would still be fun and interesting to watch!

I ran this almost exclusively on my a6500 for the better part of three years, and RARELY touched my 3 sigma f1.4’s… I ended up selling my a6500 and the 3 lenses and kept the tamron to pair with my newer a7iii. It’s an AMAZING LENS… I can’t imagine how they could make it better with this new version! Don’t hesitate, it’s amazing on either apsc or full frame!
To be clear: this lens could be made in any of Tamron's five factories around the world and the fit and finish would be the same. Country of origin does not matter where Tamron is concerned.

Hey I just got the tamron 28-75 R2 - and it does not respect the setting I input in your camera for AF track sensitivity & AF Drive Speed in video - if i set to 'slow 'on my 24-105 it gives me a slow smooth focus pull - on the tamron 28-75 R2 - it does the same sloppy low budget video camera looking focus stutter jumping in video no matter what setting I input. Is the first generation 28-75 like this? is there a firmware update coming to fix this?- Does the sigma 2.8 24-70 respond to the values you input for track sens and Af drive speed?. Thanks!

Scott, I have owned all of them. I owned the original Tamron, then bought the Sigma to go with my A7C as it was just a little bit lighter (the Tammy went to my A9). I like the new Tammy better than all of them. I did like the smaller and lighter version of the Sigma and if that is your MAIN concern, you will not be disappointed. I think the Tammy G2 is just a tad better than both - bokeh is better. Better weather sealing and better warranty on the G2. Flare issues still remain, thought.
Would be interesting to know how it compares to the 24-105 F4 OSS that I own. Obviously F4 won’t have as much bokeh, but I care more about sharpness and the 24-105 is one of the sharper lenses out there, the OSS also helps with shutter speed not needing to be too slow with it being F4.

I'm a long follower of this channel since i had the a6000 around 3 years ago and now finally switching to fullframe 😁 I'm torn between this tamron G2 and sigma 28-70 dg dn c, and since from the end of last year til now the sigma 18-50 dc dn c is my sole favorite lens for my a6000, i'm more inclined to the sigma. But honestly, i'm still not so sure, especially after watching many review of how good this tamron 28-75 G2 is (i had several chances of using tamron G1 in the past so i can more appreciate the improvement of the G2). So, which one do you think i should get for my fullframe setup? I'm more into videos than photos, and a gimbal user.
@@orcusdei i got the sigma...it's smaller, and the zoom ring is smoother and not located at the front end thus makes work with gimbal easier. I had not so bad experience with tamron g1, zooming when the camera is on gimbal can offset the position 😂
@@andrianwijaya1820 I got the Sigma too :D I tested both, Tamron G2 and Sigma and although tamron performs optically little better, I prefered the small size and weight of Sigma at the end.

Not an ideal focal range for APSC, I think the 17-70 makes more sense, since it is cheaper, the same size, and gives you stabilization and a more usable focal range.

The problem with both this lens and the first versión is that I really need a much wider focal length, applying the 1.5 cropping factor simply makes the wide angle far too narrow. Obviously, large numbers of lens buyers thought otherwise with the first version.

what you have is better, this lens has focal length match for full frame bodies.

I like APSC better, its just a preference. For video work, the A7C is better than the A7III.
Bought this right away to upgrade the V1, and its been great so far! Hopefully they update the 17-28 next.

24 to 105 is not that sharp tbh
I had the 28-70mm when I first got my A6400.
The 28mm (42mm F.F. equivalent) was a bit too close for an every day lens.
I agree - ideally you want to start at 16, 17, or 18mm on an APSC.

@@davect01 I have the 17-70mm F2.8 on the way. Excited to try it out as it covers a nice range and is F2.8 over the whole range.
Check out the Sigma 11-20 crop sensor lens. It's beautiful, tiny, sharp. That will be about 16.5 to 30mm effective. Got one for my son's a6400.

I'm a long follower of this channel since i had the a6000 around 3 years ago and now finally switching to fullframe 😁
I'm torn between this tamron G2 and sigma 28-70 dg dn c, and since from the end of last year til now the sigma 18-50 dc dn c is my sole favorite lens for my a6000, i'm more inclined to the sigma. But honestly, i'm still not so sure, especially after watching many review of how good this tamron 28-75 G2 is (i had several chances of using tamron G1 in the past so i can more appreciate the improvement of the G2).
So, which one do you think i should get for my fullframe setup? I'm more into videos than photos, and a gimbal user.

@@orcusdei i got the sigma...it's smaller, and the zoom ring is smoother and not located at the front end thus makes work with gimbal easier. I had not so bad experience with tamron g1, zooming when the camera is on gimbal can offset the position 😂
@@andrianwijaya1820 I got the Sigma too :D I tested both, Tamron G2 and Sigma and although tamron performs optically little better, I prefered the small size and weight of Sigma at the end.
@@andrianwijaya1820 does the sigma pick up a lot dust and is it hard to clean? I saw a review where it was mentioned that it's kinds tricky to shoot in an environment with a lot of sunlight. Also do you vlog with it?

The issue is the price difference here in Germany between the G1( 650 € ) and the G2 ( 950 € ), Are those improvements worth such crazy price difference ?

Great review, thanks! It looks like the improvement on the bokeh is quite subtle. However, many people seem to find the G1's bokeh horrible while everyone seems to love the G2's. Do you think there is any major difference that we can't see in the video? I'm trying to decide between the G2 or a used G1, since the old version is already showing up at attractive prices. Thanks!
never thought of trying full frame lens on APSC. The sizing is too large and the price you paid isn't the price for APSC lens

I think the lens utility makes it worth picking up. I have an a6400 and I'm considering it.
Not an ideal focal range for APSC, I think the 17-70 makes more sense, since it is cheaper, the same size, and gives you stabilization and a more usable focal range.

The problem with both this lens and the first versión is that I really need a much wider focal length, applying the 1.5 cropping factor simply makes the wide angle far too narrow.
Obviously, large numbers of lens buyers thought otherwise with the first version.
And how many of those were APS-C users?
28mm kill its . no need for this now sigma got the 24-70
This lens is too big for such a nice handy camera. You have lost your entire advantage of the compactness of the system camera.
In a way I agree, but this is an F2.8 zoom. There arent many f2.8 zooms that are smaller.
