    An Alocasia that holds its variegation really well is: Alocasia macrorrhiza variegata. I’ve had mine for years and every pup I sell from it always has beautiful stable variegation. My fav plant by far ♥️♥️♥️

    My variegated Micans has grown really nice variegation on all the new leaves coming out. I keep it in high light, but it was not always in high heat, so perhaps it is more to do with light. I gave up on Monstera Peru variegated. I do not think I will get another one of those.

    I’m watching the vid but had to pause and drop a comment on the Monstera Peru var.. I agree with you 1000%. This is at the top of my most hated plants. It is such a little b*tch!!!! After about a year of struggling with it I literally ripped it out of the pot, smashed it to bits, and threw it in the trash. I could’ve sold it for a decent amount of money but it was sooooo worth it to take my anger out on it!

    Hello everybody,
    Philodendrum domesticum:
    18 months ago I bought a One-Halfmoon-Leave cutting of a variagated Domesticum (being a rookie at that time).
    It roted slowly and got thriving. But turned yellow more and more.
    I cut it back recently. Now let's wait and see.
    Monstera "Peru":
    I got 2 little plants. Initially nothing happened. Then one started thriving pretty fast. REverted.
    I cut it back.
    Now let's wait and see.

    I bought a baby alocasia odora variation. It had 3 leaves beautifully variegated. The fourth leaf came in green, and the first 3 died off cuz i went too long between watering. My plant is now much bigger, probably another 3-4 leaves later, and still green. Even a corm that i collected from it during a transplant turned out green

    • @Latayla
      @Latayla ปีที่แล้ว

      I just asked that question here.
      My plant just felt the need to be fancy this summer and threw out a leaf with a good bit of sectoral variegation. As you say- it’s brownish/red but as I described it; reddish pink😅.
      That patch wasn’t there in the past two weeks since that leaf unfurled. I just noticed it when watering this week. So I’m inclined to believe that the variegation takes time to come through? I don’t know what will come of it, but I’m curious to see how it will develop and if the new leaves will also have variegation.
      Does the variegation on yours stay brownish red? Was it clear to see as soon as it unfurled?

My humidity was not quite well at very beginning and within 2 weeks it reversed the size 90% and after I add humidity to this plant it has root issue again cut another 50% on what she left. She is not like other plants died so quickly and made me feel so guilty week after week.

    I have a variegated homalomena rubescens. It grows fairly fast and consistently. I've never had pest issues. It's vibe is easy-going surfer guy. Just so chill. EXCEPT for that damn variegation. I have a huge plant and it just looks like someone sneezed light green on it, if I'm that lucky. Variegation is barely present.

    Variegated ZZ didn't make the list? Its got to be one of the most beautiful plants but, I've been struggling with mine for 3 years. Purchased a stalk with bulb which developed stem rot just right away. I took every leaf from the rotting stalk (12 leaves if I remember correctly) to propagate in an attempt not to lose the plant. 3 years later all but 4 propagations are lost, two of the four keep throwing out 100% white growths that just die back, 1 is all green and just 1 is variegated. The stalk on the variegated one rotted again a couple months ago but I kept the pot hoping that the bulb(s) would push out another stalk, its ever so slowly pushing another variegated stalk. It has to be the most annoying plant with the worst odds EVER! How are yours doing?

  • @tim_meister

    I don't ever want any kind of homalomena again. I have tried 2 of them because they are just so beautiful. I think we never see them any other size because they don't want to live. All they do is sit there and wilt while they grow new leaves so they can sit there and wilt too. No more money for homalomena

    My Monstera Peru (regular) is fantastic and the leaves get bigger. But the Monstera Peru Variegated? SUCKS. The variegated leaf keeps turning brown no matter what I do. It lives in the same conditions as the regular M. Peru but what an ugly looking plant. Don't know what to do about it.

  • @HolidayGlow

    I would add a philodendron paraiso verde to you’re list as well- it why plant is the bane of my existence the plant self grows great, but I cannot get the variegation ever- I’ve read that it has to do with heat more than light but my plant has basically given me the middle finger and moved on with life no matter what I do

    • @thundercleese
      @thundercleese ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! I've also had so many issues with mine as well regarding bringing out the variegation. Tried everything you mentioned in the last year it's been in my care. The plant is still alive, making new roots and leaves that are slightly mottled, but not really thriving. So starting last month and going into this summer it will sit out on my NE balcony in a shaded spot to really test the theory that it responds to temperature. So far it's been a couple of weeks and there is a new leaf about to emerge! I'm hoping to see some better variegation.

    • @A.A.Rae-Rae
      @A.A.Rae-Rae ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry to say, but the reason it's giving you trouble is because it IS in fact more to do with LIGHT... 😮‍💨
      (I've grown these things for 4-5 years now, please trust me -- heat is what keeps them in active growth stages, light is what keeps them variegated)
      It drives me absolutely In. Effing. Sane. to see this heat theory STILL being spread around, when the symptoms people always have issues with (leggy-ness, reaching/stretched inter-nodal spacing, loss of a mottled-type variegation, etc...) are SO obviously all the tell-tale signs of etiolation and light-starvation!!!!
      I have a feeling the reason a lot of sellers still try to tell people it's heat-based is just an attempt to try to keep the intrigue (and therefore the value) up, because - let me tell you - once you have a stock of these plants, they're TOUGH to run out of (they grow SO incredibly prolifically!) Unfortunately, that also means that they take up a lot of valuable front-row grow-light realty, (because, yes, they want A LOT of light) so if they're not earning their keep, then it's tough (as a seller) to want to put in that effort, and sacrifice the space that could be used for other, more valuable plants.

    • @ST-us7kq
      @ST-us7kq ปีที่แล้ว

      I have one paraiso verde that I got in pretty bad shape, I chopped it off made 4 plants out of it. Sold all of them and only have the mother plant now. Has so awesome variegation on it also. I keep them very close to the light and there is always a fan and humidifier running. I fed her every week. I hope that helps 😊

    • @jmfrunner
      @jmfrunner ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely is heat in my experience. When the weather is consistently 90F my plant puts out the most beautiful leaves, 70s and 80s pretty much plain green.

    • @A.A.Rae-Rae
      @A.A.Rae-Rae ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jmfrunner Sorry, but that is not accurate.
      It is a tropical plant that will go into a state of growth dormancy if/when temperatures get too low. That said, even in lower temps, as long as a Paraíso is still getting enough light, then whatever growth it does manage to put out will remain variegated.
      Once the plant is allowed to go fully green, if it is moved to a better-lit spot, then it will take the plant 2-3 leaves to start putting out variegation again (this is why a lot of people I've talked to about this have given up on light) but I guarantee that WILL come back.
      [EDIT: Also, just wanted to mention that none of my plants are ever kept at 90°f+. My average grow temps are between 78°f-83°f, but I've done plenty of testing with this plant -- I've acclimated specimens down to 65°f (and lower) and all have remained variegated until I drop their light exposure too low.]

  • @ekamarie6632
    @ekamarie6632 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hack em back! I’ve seen cuttings lose variegation bc they don’t have enough of a root system. So now that it’s surely got a decent root system hack it all the way back and give some super bright light. My epipremnum and homleomena reverted. When I took cuttings so after about 3 months of steady growth that wasn’t variegated I chopped back and now the new leaves are getting their variegation back. I have a theory that some plants try no to varigate if they they don’t have the root support for it. 🤷‍♀️

    Agreed that variegated alocasia is chaos! Bought this stunner with 3 VERY variegated leaves. Pushed out a green leaf. Lost all variegated leaves. But FINALLY a new leaf is pushing out and I'm holding my breath!
