    Update on our hatch. We had 11 out of 12 eggs hatch and left them in the turner as you had suggested. One was born without eyes and I decided to euthanize it. So we ended up with 10. Thanks for your help

    • @TsquareTalk

      I've never seen one born without eyes but I have seen one born with a damaged leg at one point that is probably the hardest thing for people to have to do is euthanize a baby chick. but it sounds like your percentage did pretty well so I would definitely be proud of yourself Nolan. I am about ready to break out my incubators and start them up again as spring is here.

    Hello. I enjoyed your video here. Question: why did you not remove the automatic egg turner and place the eggs on the screen? Is it because it is hard to remove, being the silver motor is so close? I ask this because I know how costly the unit is and the fear of breaking something. I have a few days left before I unplug my egg turner power cord. Thank you.

    • @TsquareTalk
      @TsquareTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have tried it both ways I don't take out the egg turner anymore I just unplug it just before they start to hatch but by doing that you have to make sure that you clean it after they hatch so you will have to take it out I have not had any trouble breaking that so it can be done but yes it is tight. But there is an important tip to remember the motor only goes in one corner it should fit snug if it's in the right corner it will be extremely tight if it is in the wrong corner you can tell because you will see a slight cut out for the motor in the proper corner. Thank you for watching and commenting Datchamp G. Keep in touch I will do some updated videos here next month when spring is here.

      Yeah for that you'd kind of have to watch some of my other videos where I explain the reasons that I do that. But I will give you the short answer It's a little more work to clean up however having the eggs sitting in one upright position for 21 days and then all the sudden dropping it on its side I personally do not believe that is good for the hatch percentage rate. So I have done test both ways and have found that I have higher hatch rates when I leave them in the upright position. I wish there was some kind of item that I could put in there and keep them in the upright position that was easy to clean One subscriber gave me the idea about those little plastic egg holders that you put in the fridge and they keep the eggs all neatly in the door but I have not tried that yet because I have been unable to find them. Good luck with your incubator and your hatching please Don't forget to hit that subscribe button and keep in touch Ken I love to hear how people's experience panned out for them. Curious, what temp setting did you end up using on that unit for the first part of incubation? I'm thinking now mine has been a bit low for the first 11 days even at a setting of 100.5 Temps have NOT been the same throughout the incubator and have not been 99.5.......96 degrees in one corner. The fan works and the eggs are developing/moving and seem fine. I'm just unsure.

    • @TsquareTalk
      @TsquareTalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the incubator will fluctuate its temperature a little bit but overall I believe that baby chickens in the eggs are doing fine and very resilient. I'm curious how they turned out since I'm just now seeing this comment. Hopefully if you see my reply you'll let me know how they turned out. From my experience the worst thing that would happen is just all your eggs would not hatch. @@TsquareTalk It's done very well. I'm actually using it right now to incubate 28 duck eggs. They are on day 3. This will be my 3rd hatch with this unit. I've had very good hatch rates, approx 80% I use this model to get them up to the last 3 days and then move them to a still air incubator with no turner to finish out hatching. My unit likes to be set at 101.5 - 102 and that gets them pretty close to 28 days to hatch.

    Why and when did you add tape to the air holes ?

    • @TsquareTalk
      @TsquareTalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you run into a problem certain times of the year where you can't get your temperature up and the humidity to stay up then I will do that. It's not something I have to do all the time. I don't recommend messing with your temperature gauge to change the temperature. For most people that I've talked to once they start playing with the temperature it can have negative effects on the hatch rate. I simply walk by mine once or twice a day check the temp in the humidity if the humidity looks high and the temp looks high I'll pull the tape off some of the holes and let it adjust in some cases if the humidity is extremely high and I can't even see inside I will open up the incubator thus releasing some of the humidity in the air. And in some cases if the humidity is extremely low I may have to add more water or in some cases I have added a small tray of water in the incubator somewhere. The humidity is calculated and affected off of surface water. Therefore one tray of water full is some humidity to trays of water is more humidity and if I had to add an extra tray of water it would really up my humidity. It takes a little practice but it is a lot of fun if you enjoy it I love birds I love watching them hatch and I enjoy having them around the house. • @TsquareTalk
      @TsquareTalk  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You want your humidity to be a little bit higher so it's easier for them to break out of the shell. If the humidity is low or too low once they put that first crack in the egg the air will move in and dry the inside up and lock them in almost like they've been shrunk wrapped. By keeping it humid and moist it's easier for them to break out.

    • @TsquareTalk
      @TsquareTalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to the instruction manual yes that is correct however after using three farm innovators and hatching close to 50 batches I have found that having the eggs standing up the whole time and then laying them down on the last day is not good for the eggs and can cause a lower percentage rate. However from my experience I always unplug it this way the motor will have time to cool off and not burn baby chicks if they brush up against it and prevent the turner from rotating thus preventing a baby chick from getting its foot caught in the rails. It does require a little bit more cleaning time but I have found getting a higher percentage hatch rate is worth the cleaning. Curious, why didn’t you remove the egg turner and move to the tray?

    • @TsquareTalk
      @TsquareTalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I actually did a video on this and short answer because when an egg sits in the upright position for so long it seems to almost have the chicken grow in a certain position. Once you take out the egg turner the egg now will sit on its side and in some circumstances it kills the chicken I have not figured out why this is but I have experimented on it many times. Best thing that I have thought about would be how awesome it would be to have some sort of a plastic washer friendly egg carton to put inside thus keeping the eggs standing in the upright position the last couple days. I know that the instruction manual says take it out but I have used this amazing product literally every bit of 30 times and now I have amazing results. Thank you so much for watching and commenting please be sure to hit that subscribe button and keep in touch. Oh one more note if you do copy me and leave it in there be sure to unplug it around day 20 you don't want it spinning and breaking a foot or burning a baby chick.

      @@TsquareTalk I think you might be right. To be honest, this incubator didn’t work so well for me, it always killed about 8 chicks at the last stage. I bought twice and returned it both times. When I use another foam incubator last time, the hatching rate improved so much. I only had one chick that died at the last stage. The problem with this incubator is the temperatures at different places are uneven.

    • @TsquareTalk

      I have tried cardboard and the cardboard broke down I have said that I think it would be cool if someone designed a product made of dishwasher safe plastic to actually replace on day three to keep the eggs standing in that upright position. I've never seen a plastic one I've only seen styrofoam or cardboard I've never tried styrofoam yet but they Peck at a lot of things so I don't know if they would Peck at the styrofoam. plastic you would not damage so it would not be a problem and it would be easy to clean. I watched three of your videos and you mentioned 70 humidity. Is that the first 17 days? Or all the time?
    Also you don’t remove the turner and what about the motor? Still in or off?

    • @TsquareTalk
      @TsquareTalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At first I did remove the egg turner however I found that laying the eggs on their side after they've been in an upright position for 21 days seem to have a slightly negative effect on hatch percentages therefore when I start seeing signs of cracking or on the 20th day I will actually unplug the egg turner therefore preventing a foot from getting stuck in the egg turner and getting broken and also allowing the motor to cool down that way no baby chick will brush up against it and get burned. As for the 70 humidity I don't entirely worry about the humidity numbers as long as you keep some water in the compartments on the bottom you want your humidity to be fairly higher but not too high. Mother nature has a lot of room for Eris which means it's not always going to be perfect think of nature they don't always get the perfect weather and sometimes the mother hen has to get off the eggs and so briefs of cooler temperature or lower or higher humidity will work out you're probably not going to have 100% turnout in fact I'd have 41 eggs the best I've ever gotten was 40 I've never hit 41 and I have tried probably 30 to 40 times now. If you get 50% 20 or 22 you did okay. • @TsquareTalk

      None of them hatched my first question would be where did you get your eggs if none hatched that is extremely rare and I would wonder if wherever you got your eggs if they had a rooster if they don't have a rooster and none of them will hatch it is a small tip that not a lot of people know. a lot of people out there think any egg is hatchable but that's not true you have to have both the mail and the female if you want to hatch them but if you just want to eat eggs you only need females. Some people will only have females because all they want to do is sell eggs. I have a little cheap when I got off of Amazon and it didn't work out I got eggs in it right now but I'm pretty sure they're all dead. The start with the automatic Turner didn't work from the start so I had to constantly open and close yet to turn the eggs. I couldn't keep the humidity regulated and it's just been a heartbreaking disaster. I'm at day15 and I left the eggs in there just in case but I'm expecting him to start exploding anytime now but I'm still hopeful but doubtful. I do see some eggs in there with good veining but I'm not seeing any movement. Anyway buying one of them type of incubators really soon.
