That was before, with COPPA. Now, generally videos with KIDS in them now have comments removed forever. Oh, there’s no way to enable them again, because there is no ‘comments on’ button.
This is legit only thing that pisses me off. Sometimes I even go back to old cartoon clips to see comments and now it’s all gone.

I'm trying a new method of just putting it in the adult only section under the tag NFC - Not for kids.
It's a half half thing, sometimes working sometimes not. For example Robot Riot for Phineas and Ferb is working, but Everything is Better With Perry is not working.
Also so sad about the comments, even past the it's for kids or not thing there is still this to handle where they think if it has kids it has to have the comments disabled etc.

I know right! I remember I was gonna watch that iconic "I Need a Hero" scene from Shrek 2 but it already got disabled by TH-cam. Like, why TH-cam? Shrek is a childhood to almost all of us.

The TH-cam Kids app was okay. But they now recently disabled comments any videos they made "for kids". Some of these were ones I visited YESTERDAY and the comments were still active. But not anymore. This really sucks for people like me who really enjoy reading comments sections. TH-cam needs to stop ruining everyone's enjoyment with every feature over the smallest thing, like just having a kids in a video.
They literally disabled any videos with kids in them I'm pretty sure. It doesn't have to be a "Made for Kids" video. If they see a kid in a TH-cam video, regardless of the circumstances, they're just gonna disable the comments.

While I completely agree, it's the advertisers that TH-cam is trying to satisfy and also has to satisfy. Regardless of whether or not TH-cam thinks they should do anything about it, they know they have to, because advertisers have complete control over TH-cam. They are the ones in charge.
the irony is that even youtube acknowledges that kids use the youtube app instead of the one they made for kids. TH-cam at this point is going to have an alternative overtake it, it's eventual and it's going to drag on because youtube can't cope.

They disabled comments on some Disney videos. I was watching ‘My Lullaby’ from Lion King 2 and I realised the comments were fucking gone. I was so interested in seeing what others had to say about the song and it was boom! Gone.

When people make videos they shouldn't have to constantly cater to whiny as s kids.
Not just with kids. Cartoons and a lot of stuff with toys in them have had their comments disabled too, and often the TH-camr doesn't know how to change it back!
Btw, after talkin to someone that got their comments disabled because of plush skits, when he tries to re-enable it, they immediately disable it again.
My videos often get the comments disabled. It happened Yesterday 3 times and it my cats... 🤔😒 When I change it back it does open but then I check though out the day and it will be disabled again.

Maybe TH-cam should do a verification thing where if you verify that you really want comments, and after gettin' a code or somethin', it gets enabled permanent. Down side's you need to do it each video for extra sure you want it back.

TH-cam is like trying to dictate people over things, it’s no wonder they need a close competitor.
Labyrinth9000 advertisers are too cautious over putting ads on sites with pedophiles. They would face boycotts from parents, even though they had no idea what was happening on TH-cam, I don’t blame TH-cam for removing comments in kids videos, just for advertisers to keep TH-cam profitable so content creators can still make videos.

That's impossible. TH-cam is so big that they buy or crush anyone that can potentially be a competitor. Add censorship to that and well... no such thing as freedom of speech anymore on this part of the web. And it's like this for most (social) media platforms these days. Everything is monopolized with no room for competition.

If your video is good, they will come. Most people don't even comment since it needs a profile to post and the numbers prove that more than 2/3 of all viewers don't have accounts.
Exactly. I am 13. I am responsible enough to block any questionable comments, and I do. TH-cam does not need to disable comments. I want to die every time comments are disabled (I take some time for my videos).

YES THEY DID GO TOO FAR! I uploaded a freaking SpongeBob video and my comments were turned off for no reason. I wouldn't have allowed creepy comments in the first place, they sometimes let me review comments. At least they used too... I've met some very close friends in the comment section of cartoon videos.

@John Stroud Unfortunately, TH-cam would have to hire AT LEAST 100 MILLION people to effectively moderate the videos' comment sections! Think about it. 100 million people would be about 1/4 of the U.S. population! And, let's assume that each of these moderators makes $25 per hour. Let's see now. This means that TH-cam would have to pay $2.5 BILLION per hour! I'm sorry, but NO company, not even a big one like Google, can even BEGIN to pay $2.5 billion per hour! I imagine that the ONLY sort of company that could pay that much each hour would be a GALACTIC company, which would be a gigantic company that spans at least TEN star systems. Galactic-sized companies are not going to exist until FTL (faster-than-light) space travel AND FTL communication exist. One possible FTL communication that would allow for instant two-way communication across LIGHT-YEARS would be Quantum Entanglement (Q.E.) radio.

I’m pretty sure there are channels out there that do this. They are sometimes forced to have to add a swear word into the video so that TH-cam doesn’t detect it as “Made for kids.” It’s ridiculous.

I thought TH-cam had forgotten about this and/or decided not to disable comments, but TH-cam ACTUALLY was that stupid! Now the only way to fix it is to put my videos back on adults only, and I'll be forced to pay a million dollar fine for that!
I've made mine adults only as well to make sure the kids can't access them, but how youtube does it if it has anything to do with kids is just nah.

I frequently watch some youtube channels about dogs, it is primarily about dogs and now all of their videos comments are disabled for ALL of the videos, just because they happen to have had a baby a few years ago and sometimes they show their dog's interaction with their kid. It's such a bullshit system they have implemented, these channels show their dogs 99.99% of the time and no kids in most their video yet they still get their comments disabled. Its BS.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't have done a thing. What is really the issue here? People posting a few timestamps in videos? Sure, you can guess what they're for and that sparks some response within yourself, but is it hurting anyone? Are these children being threatened by timecodes? Are they being hurt? By creepy people on the internet? Those have been here since the first day the internet existed. Removing the comments doesn't change anything. People will still watch the videos. Maybe even write the bloody timecodes on a piece of paper. They'll find a way. With this "solution" TH-cam is hurting the uploaders, in most cases children, for all the reasons Rich named. But oh well. TH-cam *has* to do something or the advertisers will get their panties in a bunch.

I asked the same question where do they take it from this point? Eventually their system will be so sophisticated where it will be able to detect any video that is put on the site that has someone under the age of 18 on the video, And they will immediately delete the video, I can definitely see it going to this point, so then at that point you can say goodbye to all family channels you will no longer be allowed to show you’re under the age of 18 children, even teenagers that have channels on TH-cam I guess you can say goodbye to their channels, I guess in a few years when it gets to that point, it will be an adult only site but still you won’t be allowed to share your opinion or your views or your beliefs or politics or religion or anything, or even question TH-cam or videos complaining about their guidelines will be deleted

I don’t know about anyone else but I find youtube boring without comments. I use the comments to talk to people who are watching the same videos of me.
I use it as a social thing and not just to give feedback on the video

I say this, because if all it takes it compiling comments to convince millions of dollars in sponsors from leaving. Seriously, when somthing as simple as a timestamp can be offensive enough to start an apocalypse. What else can be done?
Should be a case by case basis. Those people I listed aren't minors but they';re family oriented. You can add Kids React by FBE to the list I suppose. There's work to be done but this is a good step I agree.

Nuke option. Some channels that had kids on some of their videos had ALL of their videos comments disabled, even newly uploaded videos.
Why TH-cam is not opening a kids section app and leave the normal one for people to keep on commenting?
would be cool that adults accounts could see comments or at least the comments can be seen only if you log in as adult.
Usually the most fun part of using TH-cam is reading the comments in my opinion

I think TH-cam is vulnerable right now! If someone made a similar site that allowed creators to keep 50% of the ad revenue they could win.
There were already a few they all failed and are gone.
TH-cam as it is isn't very profitable. Making and maintaining a platform where tons of videos can be uploaded and streamed from is expensive. The only income they've had for so long was ads, and even that is crumbling.
@@MrDeaderik I have been doing TH-cam for two years. If you want to make a living at this you have to make a lot of money. Most people have diversified and rely on what I consider begging subscribers for money (patreon). After taxes and the amount of time you put into your chances you are making minimum wage unless you are a really big TH-camr. But who cares about money when you are doing what you love!

The comments on my videos are disabled and its impossible for my channel to grow. I might just quit TH-cam because of this silly decision :(

Same, I'm uploading old cartoons like Phineas and Ferb with new clips at 1080p, but because of this feature they've disabled my comments regardless if it's for kids or not for kids. Note that I've duplicated some of my videos starting today with NFC - Not for children and FC - For children to suit all ages.
I just want to connect the the community together because all of my childhood cartoons have their comments disabled and nobody can talk about it anymore.

I think it's just due to all these years of kids under 13 lying about their age when they create an account in order to view blocked content

@Capri Actually, teenagers is for someone who's age is between 13 - 19. It's because at the end of each numbers, there's the word "teen" in it.
It's an overreaction but, ultimately, the blame lies with the companies that pulled ads over this. They forced TH-cam's hand.

@@dream6562 The only reason why advertisers had left because of a youtuber shown it to the advertisers. Not them themselves. Which they are not that stupid enough to do it, then they would only screw themselves over.

The commenter should be punished, not the innocent uploader. A better system would be to filter comments and ban anyone from commenting such, or something like, *Cannot post, comment contains violent language, etc.*. Besides what's stopping the pervs from watching the videos or preying on children other ways? And why are other videos with no mention of kids getting comments disabled too??? Get over yourself TH-cam.

For videos that already have comments on them, that existed before this change was implemented, will the existing comments be removed/erased, or will the comments section simply be locked? If the former, will TH-cam offer a way to archive/save these old comments, or will they be gone forever?
They wil just be locked i had my comments disabled too on a old video. I then changed the video for adults only and the comments are back al the original ones
I was able to manually put comments back so I could interact with my very small fan base and now they have disabled ALL comments, on every video, no matter what. It is so disheartening to me.
