As a Brown alumn I can definitely second all of this! The people are so friendly - I only ever had positive experiences with fellow students trying to help each other even when it meant losing hours and hours of their own time to help someone from class or a friend with an assignment. Many of us would edit each others essays or tutor each other if the help was needed
Also RISD is definitely the best thing about Brown - it was for me at least! Best decision I made at Brown aside from taking a medical leave was taking RISD courses ever semester after I returned (I was an astrophysics major).
    Amazing experience - I miss it :')

I'm very interested in Brown and people have said that the no GPA makes if harder to find a job or you have to calculate your own. Has kick-starting your career been manageable for you?

@@carolinebystrowski1574 I have had no issue finding a job - I need to give a note though, I was an astrophysics major, so it may depend on the field - most applications I have dealt with will still ask for transcripts. I've manually calculated a GPA multiple times, but I think the grades on the transcript are also telling. From that, I've been in various internships/summer programs that could have provided some form of a full time position (Los Alamos National Lab, consulting in college counseling, high school teaching) or have found various opportunities with on my own by reaching out (international institutions, Columbia research). The name of being a student at Brown has been sufficient to get my foot in the door and receive replies back. That should not stop one from working hard at Brown (and as a physics major the coursework was certainly no joke and I busted my butt at Brown). I can only speak from a STEM/Physics stand point. If one is interested in business for example, I cannot really speak to the intensive interview process there. Though, I have had physics friends work at interns at Goldman Sachs and such. If you have more questions, I am happy to provide more specific answers to whatever scenario you are thinking :)

I will also comment, Brown has a great career lab. I personally did not really use it, but I had many friends, particularly low-income friends, who were able to utilized the Career lab services to help them land a job upon graduation. And these were friends in sociology, history, humanities (as well as STEM) who were able to get either very well paying jobs or very fulfilling jobs from that. It takes initiative from the student to utilize those services, but brown offers a lot of support to help you make sure you can find a job too.

@@michellemiller193 I'm planning to apply this year at Brown to do my degree in mathematics, I realized late (I think) wanted to study math, and because of that I don have the highest grades (3.3-3.5, 3.5-3.6 and in my last year 3.7-4.0) but I really want to study in Brown and it's my dream, learn the right and the enough amount of math to work in my theories, right now I'm working in my project in modern physics to demonstrate how much I want to study math, and with the activities I've been in School.
Do you think I can do it? A opinion from someone who's been there would be very helpful

Excellent video. Really one if the most informative student videos I've seen. I'll forward this to my son, who had about 2 weeks to get his ED application in, why whether Brown or elsewhere.

Hi! Do you think you could make a video that’s more in depth about the Brown-RISD dual degree program and cross-registering for classes? I’m only a freshmen in high school, but it’s my dream to do the dual degree program (ideally for illustration and creative writing/english). I know that the class size is super small, so I think it could be really interesting to hear the perspective of a dual-degree student. Thanks!

I' curious about upper-level math courses, which are mainly major requirement, for both straight math and applied math. Are they frustrating as well?
