23Zero Breezeway 62 RTT Setup. Gear Review #2

  • This 23Zero Breezeway was loaned to me by Spirit Of 1876 for some testing and I gotta say, it's nice. It may appear to be like many other RTT's but the thickness of materials and Light Suppression Technology really sold me. Speaking of selling, at a price of $1,499 I think it's a really great deal when comparing to others. There are lots of companies out there and even more tents which can get pretty exhausting, I loved the darkness, the mattress and the ventilation. I also forgot to mention the cover that the mattress comes in eliminates the need for an anti condensation mat. If you're interested in a rooftop tent check these out. Have fun out there!

    My Tires:
    amzn.to/2whk2MF
    I love these tires. The only others I'd take are the BFG KO2 but they don't make them in this size and the KM2's are amazing. You can probably imagine the amount of driving I do weekly and how much abuse my tires get.
    My Tire Deflators:
    amzn.to/2nYVxzU
    These tire deflators have many $15 copies but the others just don't hold up or are inaccurate. I don't know what the deal is, they look identical to me too but read the reviews- they're bad. I've been using these Staun's for over a year and never had a problem, I air down a lot. Set them at the trail so your tires will be the same temp when you get to the trail next time.
    My Compressor:
    amzn.to/2PuerLH
    There are better ones but I'd just get a bigger VIAIR, not someone different. Airs up all my 33's from 14psi to 37psi in less than 10 minutes. The in-line gauge is inaccurate when the compressor is on because of the pressure passing through. You need to switch it off to get a real reading. You can combat this by figuring out what incorrect reading corresponds to the real one. When mine is right at 3 Bar (43psi) it's slightly over 37psi. I put it on another tire and then use my real gauge to set it exactly.
    My Microphone:
    amzn.to/2P1S3sb
    My microphone is the worst good mic you can get. BUT don't be fooled, it's a very good mic. Picture me getting in my car for the 50th time after I just ran up and down a hill... for the 50th time. Do you see me disconnecting my mic and gingerly setting it in a case? No. It stays connected to the tripod, gets thrown into my plastic cargo area and bounces around with other heavy items until the next one. It gets terrible interference from WiFi so you must make sure that it's off on your camera or phone. If you are trying to use this with your phone you need to get a TRS to TRRS cable which RODE makes. This is required because your phone will think the mic is headphones.
    My Tripod:
    amzn.to/2o8h6hL
    I went through 2 tripods in 1 month, a $20 and a $30. Buy it nice or buy it thrice. This thing gets opened and closed MANY times per week in rain, snow, dirt, and even in the middle of rivers. I love the 2-stage legs so i can make it real low in 2sec instead of shortening all the legs.
    My Drone:
    amzn.to/2KUGWAp
    You can tell how easy it was to progress through my videos. Besides maybe five times, you've seen every bit of flying since I got it. I don't fly in the city and I don't go to the mountains and not make a video. It is VERY easy to use.
    My Drone ND Filters:
    amzn.to/2MHV0R0
    The filters are a must. Again I have the worst ones and I am still very pleased. My first use was video #35 and I think it is very apparent. Illinois Gulch (#34 obviously) has a completely white sky, way too much blue. I'm still not even good about selecting the right one or changing them out but it's 10x better than nothing.
    My Books:
    amzn.to/2wmd20O CO
    amzn.to/2BzDIBc CO North
    amzn.to/2ByPuvy Moab
    FunTreks books are great. I like to bring as much information as possible when I go to the middle of nowhere. They have coordinates and maps for everything, very in-depth info on sturdy pages.

      I went back and forth between RTT on the X or on an offroad trailer. Went with a trailer because 1) top heaviness, 2) cargo capability, and 3) being able to set up a base camp and not pack up every time I wanted to go somewhere. Have done a popup before, so it should be like that, but it can go places!

    All the reasons you stated at the end is exactly why I didn’t get one. Too much weight up high and they are damn expensive! Also I love to preview the trail or have camp setup while we go wheeling and come back to a fully setup camp. I also like to do super off camber trails and any weight above my belly button in the drivers seat is a no-no(I even opted for no sunroof). If they had some sort of quick release option to take it off at a moments notice would be nice. Anyways, keep up the nice vids!

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      there’s all the easy ones (clean air filter, tire psi etc), also factoring larger tire size. if you’re tire is 8% bigger than stock you gotta add 8% more miles if you’re doing it with the trip meter. if you have a Scangauge you gotta fill out all the settings including getting your speed accurate, then it’ll know you have bigger tires.
      the biggest one is driving style though. my first car was an 88 Cadillac that had a MPG calculator screen in it so i’ve been playing this game for 2 decades haha. basically trying to never come to a complete stop, coasting to red lights that usually turn green when i get there. if a highway is steep downhill where i’m getting on i’ll just let the gravity get me up to speed.
      “anytime you touch your brake you’re wasting gas” - Jeremy Clarkson
      it really all boils down to: if there’s nowhere to go (because of traffic or otherwise) i stop accelerating.
      there’s a ton of other stuff like how people always say “i live in the mountains- i can’t get good mileage” this is crazy. my car going 70mph on flat ground with the cruise on is getting 22mpg let’s say. when i go up I70 i’m getting 10mpg... but when i go home and my cruise is set going DOWN those same hills we’re talking 60-100mpg.
      soooo uphill is a loss of 12 but downhill is a gain of 50+. the reason people who live in Evergreen are averaging 12mpg is they’re flooring it all the way up the hill getting 4mpg probably, then the next morning speeding up to 80, slamming brakes to 60 for a corner, flooring it to 80 to re-pass the guy that was just going 70 the whole time, next corner slam brakes... good mpg is driving smoothly, trying to use both pedals as little as possible.
      meanwhile i have the cruise at 69, never touch anything, boom- fantastic mileage haha.
      also keep in mind this is all situational, i’m not just idling around town with a line of cars behind me haha. i play the game when i can/it doesn’t affect anyone else.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      they’re kind of not comparable, really depends. the swag is a 1 person, this is a 2+ person. the swag takes up LOTS of room inside the Xterra and this is all outside.. setup times and being off the ground are the same, this LST is way better (pitch black vs. pretty dark). i think setting up the swag is easier because i don’t have to climb around my car 4x to set it up but i also don’t have to carry anything to setup the 23Zero. every tent is going to have pros and cons but the main ones here are how many people are you trying to sleep and how much room do you have inside your car.

    I'm pissed that the cover has to be "tucked" into the bottom of your roof rack. How did these idiots not think of what to do with it?

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can slide it out too but i don’t want to put it in the car or anything. ROAM has loops to tie it up there but as we’re learning (with annexes too) that middle seam of the tent is rarely right at or beyond the wall of the rack. most tents sit inside the rack 1-3” so you can’t even access it once the tent is
      bolted down. the only other options are putting it on risers so you can reach in there or offsetting the tent to one side.

    Will it mount to a normal factory roof rack/crossbars?

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      on an Xterra? no. the plastic clamps at the ends of the crossbars are too weak. i got 2 pieces of 80/20 aluminum and set them on top of the rails. then drilled 2 holes at the ends of each new crossbar and ran u-bolts around rails and up through the crossbars then bolted down. probably have to grind the no upward facing threads flush with the nuts.

    I have never understood the appeal of a roof top tent here in Australia when 4wding, as you need to pack up to move on and the risk of falling down those steps is every present... No scary beasties here ... However... In the states I can see the benefits of being up on the roof, getting away from the lions, tigers and bears ... Etc.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      unfortunately if they wanted to get up there they easily could… the good news is unless they’re starving and you’re using beef jerky as a pillow you’re probably good. the biggest difference between a swag is definitely having the space inside. i recently got a new RTT after using an OzTent for a couple years and i couldn’t believe how much more room i had. the other would be perfectly flat no matter what, leveling can be a pain but in the end it’s a completely flat surface with no lumps. here in the Rockies it’s all lumps so that’s a plus.

      Hey B R,
      I'm a recent convert to the American gazelle T4 hub tent. Pitch time is 90 seconds, add bed and chair and it's done. About 8ft sq and standing height.... Absolutely sensational for me, the wife, the boyfriend and his 🐕 with room to spare....
      Great as a base camp and packs in 90 second.

      @@brucefsanders hahaha sick! there are a bunch of companies making tents like that now, they seem really cool. pretty sure they started as ice fishing pods and then a couple material changes and now can be used anywhere. they've always seemed cool to me with either a pop out spring loaded wall or a kind of umbrella mechanism to get them open.

    Sweet tent! Would it fit 2 adults and two kids?

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you could go 3 people lengthwise and if one kid is young enough could sleep sideways at the head or feet. i wouldn’t like it personally but i know a guy who gets his wife and 2 kids into a tent significantly smaller than this. i recommend putting some tape on the floor (96x62) and seeing if all of you can fit in there.

    Had any rainy days/nights in this thing yet? The front/back rain fly have those gaps along the side by the door, and no side window awnings to keep it off the side of the tent

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the whole main tent is waterproof with taped seams. i think the fly is mostly for cooling, puts the whole tent in the shade and probably want it because of the skylight. i’ve also heard they help with condensation by having an air gap.

      haha! sorry! yes unfortunately that is a pretty DIY Home Depot setup i had at the time to get the job done. i now have an UpTop Overland rack. with the DIY setup yes- i had to cut the bolts flush with the nuts and there was just enough clearance to the bottom of the tent due to the tent rails raising that floor up about an inch. this was fine functionality-wise but i did get 2 dents from the floor contacting the nuts. i’d glue a rubber square or table leg pad in that area and i bet it’d be no problems 👍
