Vietnam's Border With China 🇻🇳

  • ■ LAO CAI, VIETNAM: After over 13 hours of riding on the most horrific of roads, albeit with countless stops along the way, I'd finally arrived in the Northern Vietnamese city of Lao Cai. From here you can look across a tiny river straight over to China. If you have a visa for china you can also cross over here by foot. Sadly I don't have one.
A journey I thought would be merely a time consuming monotonous ride along endless rice fields had actually turned out to be one of the more entertaining rides of my TH-cam career due to the many welcoming people i met along the way.
But just a few hours short of the border I ran into a guy who turned out to be the friendliest of all....

To answer your question, Harald, the river at 13:09 where you’re taking a dip is the Khe Lếch river (Latitude 22.176465° Longitude 104.253636°), which 125 meters ahead will joint the bigger Sg. Nậm Chăn river, and which will later joint the famous Sông Hồng river or Red River. I see you took the Đường tỉnh 151 (Provincial road 151) north, but deviated for the brief swim. My grandparents live there… ;)

Thank you for all you do. The hours you spend on the road, sometimes getting sick along the way as you strive to bring us a different perspective of the places you visit, off the beaten track. The Han ppl conquered their land and assimilated them. You call them Chinese but to us, they are Viet ethnic which was assimilated by Han. It was the story of the beginning day of history.
If you do some research, the Vietnamese genetic has very little relation with China root. We are more belong to South East Asia families (85-90%) and we were the very first countries step the foot on the land we are living now and also moved toward to your Southern China land up until the Han people expanding their power.

Incredible footage Harald Vietnam looks like a very beautiful and interest place to visit, locals seem very helpful and curious about the “white man” and love how you just swim in the river although your concerns for industrial waste 🤣 and how the school kids approached you like you were from another world! Love your abroad videos my man! Much love from Texas!

I work in road construction in America so seeing excavators and rollers in the middle of the road without any signs or anything is amazing. It makes my entire career feel like a joke. America is all about CYA (cover your ass). It’s all about liability and fear of lawsuits. Obviously it makes things somewhat safer, but I adore the simplicity of Vietnam.
