I just installed my Helix 5 megs SI on my PDL120 last week. Came to the same conclusion. Got it really close but no reason to chase perfection for this. Thanks for the awesome floor insert BTW.
Thanks for this, I just got mine. I ordered the wrong one at first for my Helix 9, I had no idea the transducer was different/bigger than the Helix 5…but now I got the right one. Hopefully in the water with it this week🤘🏻🎣
Definitely interested in a keel guard for my predator. So far my homemade pvc one is working well, but not sure if the thickness is affecting how it cuts through the water
What do you think of the idea of gluing the transducer to the hull right were it seats in this video, but applying some sort of 3m waterproof double side tape or some epoxy.
Will the helix 8 si g4n scan properly when mounted on a 3waters bigfish 108? Using there preinstalled mount. It sets up high in the tri hull. Wonder if that would affect performance

Nick. Nice that you talked about the leveling aspect of the transducer mount. I noticed the kayaks were sitting on some yellow stands. Can you please advise which product supplier they are and the height they stand. Thanks,
I have 2 Hobie kayaks, both are Compass. One is a 2018 and the other is 2019. 2018 I use a Hummingbird Helix 5 with DI and the 2019 a Garmin Striker 9 Plus with Side VU and Down Vu. Currently using a Yak Attack Switchblade for both. However, I’m experiencing issues of erratic or no readings and I think it’s because bumping into items. Example, Helix gives no depth and CHRP stops working or gives erratic readings. Same with the Garmin which makes me think it’s the transducer. What’s the best way to mount the transducers? There is a transducer mount at the bottom of the yaks but if I’m not mistaken, it’s for through hull transducers only.

It will. We have a ton of clients who have installed similar transducers in the same spot on the AP. You may notice some surface interference if you spin the motor around to go in reverse.
Trying to get it level? Hahaha. I’ll rock my kayak around sometimes to see if I’ll pick something up on sonar to the right and left sometimes. Not sure if it actually does much. Certainly doesn’t give complete marks.

It may work for a while but I’m not sure how long it would hold and cleaning it off to reapply and reinstall might be a pain.

Good Info! How much does it cost for you to make a scupper mount? Does it depend upon the transducer?
