I'm assuming the duct tape holding the glass to the bottom channel is temporary. I did the same thing. The manual says to glue the glass into the channel at final assembly and after painting complete.

How about some RTV in the track and then run it up fully till cured?
That is a pretty good idea. My only hesitation is the mess if I have to pull the grass out for any reason

It may be permanent. I like the ability to be able to disassemble it fairly easily if need be with minimal mess
