    this is one of those times where "just the tip" is problematic

    Rostfrei litterally is rustfree but it means stainless.

    Soo many dirty jokes going thru my head when you were explaining it lol... the 10yo in me needed a laugh. Interesting knife though, never seen one quite like it.

    Man I’ve asked about this. My dad has a knife that has this issue. I thought maybe replacing the spring but I guess not. I will dry the tap to fix it. Thank you!

    I think you should have it repaired Jeff. It would be great for us to follow along the process. Sure it might be expensive, but you’d be restoring a nice historic knife.

      Pretty nice motorized shopping cart you got there
      I joke because I love Miatas, no hard feelings lol. What you got done to it?

    Sometimes it’s just the locking pin that’s worn, you can add a sleeve in the blade hole or just replace with a thicker locking pin, I’ve repaired loads of these types of knives. I could repair your knife easily, tape the area over the handle pins then use a needle file of dremel to remove the pin heads then tap them out to open it up

    SKM in Italy used to sell them with that issue brand new. I still have one sitting in my “ knife box of shame” that hasn’t been touched in years.

    I just bought the same knife at an antique mall !
    Quality blade and mine has a swing guard !

    I wouldn’t trust fixing that myself. If I had a rare, valuable knife that had that issue, I would probably just send it to Bill DeShivs who’s a master at the craft of repairing and restoring old switchblades. He’s good with heavy duty stuff like removing pins, laser welding, etc.

      Yes, I remember Bill from the old TSF days. There was another guy who used the handle “Merlin” that used to fix and restore switchblades as well.

    I have a little "trapper: style knife with an awl as the secondary blade, that awl does not fully close back into the handle. your explanation now makes me think the pivot of the awl needs a little attention

    How about redrill the hole inte blade and make a larger pin that holds back inside when closed ? I have this issue with a rizzuto from the 60's .. dont know the best way.. maybe welding the hole in the knife narrower as u mentioned..

    Hey do you have and tips to sharpen a serrated blade

    • @WanderingTetsubo
      @WanderingTetsubo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What I do is use a small round file for the scalloped portions followed by a small ceramic rod to remove the burs left by the file.

    Unfortunate that it has bladepeek but i wouldn't try to fix it myself. The chance that you ruin the knife is to big and i certainly wouldn't grind the blade down. I would just let it as it is myself, unless you know someone who knows how to fix it properly and you want to invest that kind of money. Let us know what you will do. Thank you for the topic.

    Couldn’t this also apply to modern button lock autos

    • @CNYKnifeNerd
      @CNYKnifeNerd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really.
      Any wear that would cause the blade to peak would likely cause the lock to fail to hold the blade closed entirely.
      I've never seen it, but it's certainly not impossible.

    I don'n want to offend anybody, but...
    "you know this is a knife, right? Not sure everyone knows what a knife is. So let me explain it to you. A knife usually has a blade and a handle, right? Blade is made for cutting tasks, not the handle. That's why the blade is usually sharp. More or less. So you grab the handle, not the blade, right?" etc etc...

  • @grandpaobvious

    Or you could carry it in a pocket slip.

  • @nixonwasframed
    @nixonwasframed 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you fix this? Answer is don't buy it, for the same reason that insurance calls some cars a total loss. The fix will likely cost more than buying one in exquisite condition. Sadly. But thanks for the video.
