    One thing I noticed with my ultratech is that the factory lube is like LPS 3, and it seems to form some sort of film on the inside that caused mine to be stiff. What I did was dunked it in my solvent tank (basically hoppes #9) fired it a couple times in there, took it out, blew it out, then put LPS 2 in it. Went from a knife that took everything I had to fire it with two hands to one that fires EASILY with my thumb

    I got my first microtech right before quarantine. I picked up the utx-70 because I always loved how small it was. But man did that thing tear my thumb up when I got it. I doubt there was anything wrong with it but had more to do with me opening it literally hundreds of times an hour.

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This fix totally stopped it from tearing up my thumb and made it super smooth. A lot of people say compressed canned air is better than WD-40 but it’s the same idea.

      My Combat Troodon is horribly stiff. Like my thumb is purple from it and my hands have calluses I have to use two hands. I'm returning it. WD didn't fix it, made it maybe a lil bit better but this is brutal my thumb feels like skin is being ripped off my thumb.

    Did not work on my Scarab II. I took it apart and put it together so many times that I can get a job doing it. Once in a while it works nicely and then back to being impossible to retract with one hand. I own 8 Microtech and this is the only one giving me a problem. It was to be my EDC and now is a safe queen.

    Just got a NIB UTX-85 in the mail today with a production date of 07/2020. This thing is so much harder than any Microtech Ultratech I have had. Don’t get me wrong at fires like a dream but my gosh this thing is brutal. Maybe just needs to be broken in? The videos I’ve seen on the 85 say they are easier and smoother to deploy and retract.

    Everybody calm down about WD-40 not being a good lube. Consider that maybe It’s not it’s lubricating properties that makes it effective for this. But rather the fact that it dissolves/dilutes the gummed up factory lube that may be causing the action to hang up.
    It would be fantastic if one could get just enough WD-40 in there to dilute the sticky lube and free up the action but not so much that it washes it all out. Or even better, if micro techs warranty wouldnt prevent us from properly maintaining our tools.

    Sooo used WD-40 and it didn't really work. The switch on mine is still super stiff. Now granted mine is a cheap OTF but it fires strong. Any other options?

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry to hear that. You can blow it out with an air can. That can work depending on what the issue is. If the issue is a weak spring then nothing will help short of changing the spring.

    Actually you want to flood the whole knife work the action a few times blow it out with compressed air work the action again a few times then then wipe excess off black and chassis and PS Remington oil works better and last longer wd will dry out to fast and you’ll be cleaning sooner than needed

      I just got my Microtech Ultratech in the mail on Friday 12/31/2022 around 11:30 am. I fired it about 30 times with my dominant hand...had to switch to my non dominant hand for about 25 or so... After fifteen minutes or so....my thumbs are... blown up!... I put about five drops of rem-oil in it and blew it out with compressed air...then again a second time...I don't know if my thumbs are just temporarily trashed....but I can not pull back on that damn button to save my life.
      Can those flippers inside be polished or recontoured to make the release a bit lighter? Gonna go soak my thumbs for a while.😆

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by it doesn’t lock up when retracting? Does the blade fall out? If so, that’s a broken spring. You would need to send it in to Microtech to warranty it.

    • @eskee1
      @eskee1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can walk you through fixing it if you want to email me gyeeah@gmail.com.
      It's likely not a broken spring if it's still firing it's an issue with the choil and lower trapdoor.. this is common and needs to be redesigned to not bounce off the back of the handle on the inside on some otfs... it can be an overly tightened spring too or dirt but spraying wd40 is not the move.

    • @eskee1

      @@joeblow8962 it depends - what is it and is this something that just started happening or always has or always has sometimes or was it solid and all of a sudden it started not locking? • @TripleEEDC

      The tiniest spray should do it. Too much oil can gunk up the works. How much did you use? Also, an air can can also be used as well.

  • @oprxghost4859
    @oprxghost4859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Didn’t work for me:/ the knife is still stiff and some of it leaked out of the sides of the knife

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably sprayed too much if it is leaking. Literally a fraction of a second is all you need. Too much WD-40 can cause it to get a sticky residue and more dust can get in there. If you want to really blow it out like that an air can is better than WD-40.

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wipe as much as you can off the blade and push the blade in and out and continually wipe it to get additional residue off
