I’m just here to show up and say if a church says “church of Christ” it does not mean “International Churches of Christ.” They are NOT the same. Even the churches of Christ vary as there is no hierarchy in structure and each congregation is autonomous….
@@MaLiArtworks186 the words were changed in scripture. That's what Rome and many others did. There was the word for church in scripture nor was the word christ ever in original Hebrew. If you're going to find out the truth, find out the whole truth. Read a book called Fossilized Customs by Lew White. Start there and do your homework.
As a life-long member of the Church of Christ, and being a member of various conservative and liberal congregations, I cannot tell you how inaccurate and misleading this presentation is. Stone-Campbell did not "found" the CoC. The CoC came out of the restoration movement like many other sects, but the CoC has never believed in, for instance, speaking in tongues as Stone-Campbell did, and never rejected the Trinity. (BTW, "godhead" is another term for trinity) The CoC was not always non-instrumental (learn your pre- and post-Civil War CoC history!). The CoC does not believe in works for salvation! We believe baptism is the point in which our sins are washed away, but know it is God's grace that saves us through our faith. And baptism is not a work as so many claim. A biblical "work" is a "good deed" - what a person does AFTER they are saved to live out their faith. We don't believe works save us! We don't believe in a different Jesus or a different gospel. That's simply false - and laughable. The CoC is not a cult. (The ICOC is, however.) You gave a lot of accusations without proof to back it up. I have studied church history - especially when and how it relates to the Stone-Campbell movement, Christian churches, Disciples of Christ and CoCs. You cannot describe the CoCs by looking at Campbell and Stone and be accurate.
In 1811 Thomas and Alexander Campbell founded the so-called "Church of Christ" in Brush Run, PA. Around this time Alexander claimed that he had restored the Church and the gospel. They claimed "Church apostasy" and that the church had fallen away for 1800 years until they came onto the scene. You also mentioned baptism, a work of righteousness. Jesus implied that it was a work when he was baptized... "To fulfill all righteousness."
I’m not surprised that a ton of church of Christ members are here telling you that you’re wrong, after all, if you don’t go to their church, you’re already going to hell anyway. Glad I escaped that garbage and I’m thankful to have been freed by the truth
Thanks for sharing that. I have to remind myself that not everyone hates the gospel of Grace and not everyone attacks those who believe in justification without works before God.
This video changed my life tonight. Growing up, Baptist , Church of Christ came along and since I have been without hope. God doesn't hear me. Etc. Now, I realize and immediately understand what has happened. A different spirit was introduced. Thank you Jesus for this man of God. Joe
I’m glad things are really looking up for you. In terms of a different spirit… I’ve heard that many times by people coming out of cults…that fear, obligation and guilt ruled the day.. I have a whole teaching website on the Church of Christ if you’d like to check it out.
This man is a monster of heresy. How do you not understand that "faith alone" is demonic ? Were you even awake at the Church of Christ sermons ? Faith without Love is nothing.
As a former CofC member I wanted to hear what you have to say. But 6 minutes in and there’s already so many inaccuracies. Never once growing up did I hear we weren’t saved by grace or faith. But just as the scriptures say we were taught about baptism. But baptism isn’t a work. After all when you get baptized you’re doing nothing other than the confession you make. A work is active not passive. On the other hand the man made sinners prayer is a work and much more active than baptism. I think you’ve grouped CofC into this because you were in the International churches of Christ which is not even related to the Churches of Christ.
Thanks for the comment. Jesus was baptized to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:15) which makes baptism a work. Biblical baptism follows conversion, and it’s always a work. Secondly, even something that’s passive, like circumcision is excluded from the gospel, in other words It doesn’t matter if it’s active or passive (Gal. 1:6~9). Your last point seems to be the sinners prayer. Well, it is true that those that misuse the prayer by teaching, If you say this prayer you’re saved. Tthat that would be tantamount to a work….You are correct that the misuse of the sinners prayer is no less heretical than making baptism necessary for salvation, which makes it a part of the gospel. The correct use of the sinners prayer is that it’s a valid expression of faith and repentance. The prayer doesn’t save you, but it’s the faith expressed in the prayer that saves, and it’s a great memorial and remembrance of the time that a believer first came to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. I hope this helps.
For 1,500 years dating back to the time of the apostolic fathers, it was taught that baptism played a part in our salvation. Did they miss it? It wasn’t until Zwingli came along and upended 1,500 (he stated that the church had it all wrong) years of church history. Were those believers all part of one big cult? Calvinist teaches that one is regenerated prior to faith? Perhaps you’ll discover there are other belief systems outside of the COC that offer more concerns that have been around a while also.
Most Christians do not obey the commandment to rightly divide the word of truth because they do not know how to divide the word of truth, even though this commandment is the most important commandment regarding our salvation. This commandment is found in II Timothy 2:15 and we are told to study God’s word and rightly divide God’s word so that we will be approved unto God. This verse warns us that we will be ashamed if we do not study and rightly divide God’s word. II Timothy 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. We know this to be a commandment from Jesus Christ because our Apostle Paul writes in I Corinthians 14:37 that what he writes are the commandments of our Lord. I Corinthians 14:37 - If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. How Are We To Rightly Divide The Word of Truth? The Bible is the word of truth. In the Bible, there are two major divisions. These major divisions are called The Prophetic Program and The Mystery Program. We are to divide these two programs. Additionally, each program has its own separate gospel. We are to divide these two separate gospels. The Prophetic Program’s theme is Christ’s reign on the earth - Jeremiah 23:5, Luke 1:30-33. Under this program, the nation of Israel will have their kingdom with Jesus Christ reigning as their King. Those saved by belief of the gospel of the kingdom will inherit the earth. The Mystery Program’s theme is Christ’s reign in the heavens - Ephesians 1:19-23, Colossians 3:1-4. The body of Christ saved by belief of the gospel of the grace of God will inherit the heavens. How Satan Hides the Gospel We are told in II Corinthians 4:3-4 how Satan hides the gospel and causes souls to be lost. Satan hides the gospel by blinding our minds to the gospel. Light allows us to see. If light is not directed upon the gospel of the grace of God, then how will we be able to see our gospel?
II Corinthians 4:3-4 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For Satan to accomplish his goal of having us live eternally with Him in hell, he has to blind us to the word of truth rightly divided. This means that Satan blinds us to the existence of the Prophetic Program and its gospel of the kingdom and the Mystery Program and its gospel of the grace of God. Once Satan has accomplished this, then the rest is easy. Now, Satan can take the gospel of the kingdom and combine it with the gospel of the grace of God, blending these two gospels to make it appear as if it is just one gospel. Then Satan lets everyone create their gospel from these blended gospels. You would probably agree that 100% of Christians will say that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. However, wouldn’t you also agree that these same people have diverse beliefs regarding how salvation is achieved? The multitude of beliefs about how salvation is achieved is the direct result of not rightly dividing the word of truth.
Rightly dividing the word of truth gives us not only the knowledge of how we are saved but also the knowledge that we can never lose our salvation. By rightly dividing the word of truth, we can have full confidence that once we believe the gospel of the grace of God, the Holy Spirit will seal us until the day of redemption. Please be saved by believing the gospel of the grace of God and then please teach your family and friends how to be saved by believing the gospel of the grace of God.
It appears that many people rationalize, minimize, and justify scriptures of the Holy Bible to go along with their lives, instead of pleasing The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The church of Christ teaches from the the scriptures, and if that makes one feel uncomfortable you are missing the entire point. The Lord's word never changes, no matter how much society changes.
I grew up in the Campbellite CoC, my Grandfather is actually still part of the leadership there. Upon diving into philosophy years back, I learned about presuppositions and took note that the major unjustified presupposition of the ‘church of Christ” is sola scriptura, the doctrine that the Bible is the sole authority for Christians. Ironically enough though, Holy Scripture itself never teaches this doctrine. This is the same doctrine that produced the 1000’s of Protestant denominations (CoC being one of them though they will deny) who all agree that the Bible is the sole authority, yet all disagree on how it is supposed to be interpreted. Also upon looking into Church history, you’ll find that this doctrine wasn’t taught for 1500 years give or take, after Pentecost. It was promulgated by German reformers in the 15 and 1600’s. This “teaches from the scriptures” ‘credit’ that you give to the Campbellite church of Christ, was ironically enough one of the biggest nails in the coffin for me. I don’t mean to be harsh, there are lots of solid people in those churches, but they are mislead in my view. Hopefully my comment will be of some benefit to you.

They are some of the most Godly people I know and they take Christianity so seriously that they only do things described in the Bible in there worship. Also, the common misconception that they believe they are the only ones doing things right isn’t completely true. Everyone that I know in the church of Christ tell me that they believe that many people from all denominations will enter heaven. They believe that the grace of God is wide enough to accept many people into heaven because they still believe and practice the basics of Christianity. I grew up in the churches of Christ, my Grandfather pastored there for 45+ years. There is no historical witness to this church prior to the time of Campbell, and the restoration movement. The teachings of the Campbellite CoC weren’t taught for 1500 years after Pentecost. You can read 1st and 2nd century Christian writers and they don’t teach what the Campbellite CoC teaches. For 1500 years The One, Holy, Catholic (not papal Catholicism btw lol), and Apostolic Church taught Apostolic Tradition, the True Presence in the Eucharist, Infant Baptism, they had monasticism and a host of other thing which the Campbellite CoC does not teach. They didn’t teach that Holy Scripture is the sole authority for Christians, nor does Holy Scripture itself teach that. As 1 Timothy 3:15 says The Church of The Living God is the “pillar and ground of truth”, this Church came before the Scriptures, this Church is the one that compiled them and canonized them, and apart from The Church you will err in your interpretation of Holy Scripture, like the Campbellite church of Christ does.

Baptism doesnt save you, works do not save you, Jesus saved us. However, Faith without works is dead (read James). And Baptism was clearly what the early church was teaching (read Acts). Ive been in the Church of Christ for 30 years...nobody there is talking about Campbell. Please Stop spreading lies.
Just because you are not talking about Campbell doesn't mean that you are not following his teachings. If you're saying that faith without baptism is dead then that is nonsensical in a gross distortion of James chapter 2 which was written for believers who had already been justified by faith alone.
@@grettaroberts5871 Christ Himself set the example by being baptized...are you implying you are better than Him? Jesus needed baptism, but somehow you do not?
You pointed us to a church of christ owned and operated website. Your doing so is the equivalence of a Mormon claiming the same thing and then pointing everyone to a Mormon website to defend their point.
The hardest thing about watching such great content, is knowing you can’t share it with those that need it most. They are still so heavily influenced by their cult of choice, any attempt to question is dismissed out of hand, let alone taking an hour to learn some actual historical facts. Regardless, I sincerely appreciated this video. Easy sub!
One of the reasons it is hard to reach out to cults is that many members are born into the cult. They are heavily influenced by their relatives and friends from birth onward. They are inundated with false doctrines, lies, and deception. When their prophet or teachers contradict Scripture, leaders are quick to claim, "Scriptures are in error down through the centuries", and our prophet has restored the scriptures to the truth. It makes it almost impossible to show these cult members the truth. The LDS church is a windmill of lies and deception, and is always one step ahead, having well prepared antidote answers to fit every contradiction thrown at them. There is no amount of indisputable evidence to shake the faith of cult members, because once God's Word is questioned, Satan is in control. The first time we find God's Word questioned is in (Genesis 3: 1-5), when Satan told the woman, "you shall not surely die, but become a god yourself". Mormonism has pick up on the "big lie", that originated before the dawn of time in the Garden, and propagated it as truth by the LDS church. Sadly, those cult members who finally, somehow, figure out the truth through the maze of distortion and deception, often leave the cult to become atheists; having confusion and burnout from all the deception.

Definition of a cult is one leader who dictates to a group. And interprets scripture to suit his way of domineering the group. This does not describe Seventh Day Adventists
No, cults are defined theologically when a solid Christian worldview is in mind. Secular psychology looks to psycho-social criterion or mind-control before labeling a group as a cult but Christians go by the Word of God, correctly interpreted, and are called to defend the faith regarding those who are teaching a false gospel, Jude 3. The Pharisees were a cult, along with the Judaizers and Gnostics for that very reason, Mt. 23; Galatians; 1 Tim. 6:20-21; Col. 2:8.

I am a member of the church of Christ, what do you mean they murdered your soul. The real church of Christ goes totally by scriptures of the Holy Bible.
Every cult and major main line Christian group claims To “go only by the Bible”. Whether their theology is devious poison or just broken, they all claim that. “Real” is also claimed by more than a few.
@@marshallgiles6255 they used the Holy Bible and our God to justify hate, create overwhelming fear (not the respect kind of fear, the satanic type), lies, condemnation at every turn and worshipped the COC not God…literally the building was their idol.
All churches that claim to have restored the gospel through modern-day prophets are false. Each of their prophets add to the bible contradict the gospel and scripture. The people in these churches can't see it because they are taught not to question their prophets however all are daughters of the harlot and are spawned from the same source. When you look at their doctrines, they all give extra biblical "revelation" that contradict and twist scripture. They all diminish the diety of Jesus Chrits by subordination. They don't understand the nature of God the father, God the son abd God the Holy Spirit and belive they are separate and that two are suborniate to God the father, not equal which is against scripture. All are works based and believe that somehow God's will is dependent upon thirler choices, which it is not. They clay does not dictate whatcit is to the potter. Yet they all believe God's will is dependent upon their choices, denying God knew the end from the beginning and that many things were predestined.
Pretentious people think they know. The KJV Holy Bible says, they are fools. Do not do surgical reading but study it. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide and give you wisdom. Surrender and cleanse your heart. Do fasting, let the Lord Jesus Christ give you understanding to learn his words for you. Do not just listen to other experts, open the KJV Holy Bible by yourself.,.,.,
One of these things is not like the others. Three out of four of these have extensive extra biblical teaching that contradicts scripture itself, whereas the COC only mantra is scripture alone. Trying to conflate these is embarrassingly dishonest.
A mantra doesn't hold weight unless it is followed. Campbellites claim they go by book, chapter and verse and call Bible things by Bible names but there are plenty of verifiable contradictions to that claim in this video series . embarrassment would be a blessing upon them if they had any sense about the seriousness of their heresies.
I agree. You are very well informed. From what I understand, COC in good faith tries to follow the Bible and the Bible alone as faithfully as possible.
@@christrescuedme2182epends I suppose on the definition of cult. If a collective group of people share the same belief system I suppose that group could be called a cult. Even in the political arena, for example, the modern day Democrat Party could definitely be called a cult as anyone that doesn't tow the party line is ostersized. For the COC, they do their best to follow Biblical principles. Most denominations attempt to set their own rules regarding at least one major doctrine, and that is the cornerstone of their identity. For some there are many. But baptism would be an example. The Bible teaches we are to be immersed in baptism and we arise to walk in a newness of life. We are born again. Repentance and confession are also part of the process. The Catholic Church, thinking they have a better idea, baptizes small babies by sprinkling.
@@surfrunnerd8457 Sadly, many focus more on the sensational aspects of cultism, rather than the deceptive doctrines that cults utilize, which is the very root of all the spiritual abuse that the cults cause. Many seem to be clueless when it comes to the damnable heresies that truly make up a Christian cult, such as: Baptismal Regeneration, Open-Theism, Pelagianism, Deism, Sinless Perfectionism, etc., all of which are found in the CoC. The CoC’s "restoration" movement also gave rise to other cults, such as LDS, JW's, SDA's, Oneness Pentecostalism, etc., which speaks volumes.
Hello , wanted your insight on something . A friend of mine is a member of a church of Christ . During a bible study the church member said my mother who is in a nursing home and has not been baptized but believes in Jesus and believes she is saved if she does will go to hell. She is bed bound and prone to pneumonia and may not have a safe way to be baptized by immersion. I feel she doesn't need to be baptized to go to heaven , but there's a little bit of me that nervous about this. Would like to hear your thoughts on what I should do or at least feel a better about this.
This is a very difficult question. The Bible however says that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ, Romans 8:1. Spirit baptism, which is synonymous with conversion, places the repentant sinner into the body of Chris, 1 Corinthians 12:13. This is permanent and cannot be overturned. I think a good idea might be to ask her if she would like to be baptized and if so make it special and hold some kind of ceremony but full immersion probably is not going to be very safe.
By hearing and believing, as Paul thought us. No need to be baptize in water, but rather in the Spirit. Water baptism doesn't saves you, but believing in heart. Holy Spirit baptism is all we need.

We do know for sure that the Boston movement coc is a cult movement and any other movement that rejects open reproof and correction our pulpit is always open come as you are and prove what you know . Claiming to wear the "right name" is dishonest and insulting to anyone with a brain. "Restorationists" aren't in the Bible. The Church of Christ movement started in 1811, in Brush Run, PA and was the brainchild of Campbell and his associates. This is a historical fact. Campbellism is not in the Bible either. Attempting to slap that label on your church is false equivalency or bait-and-switch. Furthermore, the act of doing so does not make it so. Even when tacking that expression on a sign or building does not make a group of heretics who follow the interpretations and doctrines of Alexander Campbell a church of Christ. Russellites call themselves “Jehovah’s Witnesses,” but that does not exempt them from the fact that they are false Christians. Eddyites call themselves “Christian Scientists,” but this does not nullify that they are neither Christian nor scientists. Holy Rollers call themselves “Holiness,” but this does not put away their carnality and unrighteousness. Mormons or Smithites called themselves “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,” but this can’t change their ”leopard spots” or the reality that they are the earthly movement of Joseph Smith. Therefore, the so-called name “Church of Christ” which you referenced in Romans 16:16 does not change Campbellites from being a synagogue of Satan.
Thank you so much for this information. I'm so glad I found your channel! I have a double-dose of bad doctrine. I was raised in the Church of Christ and left when I was 18. First, I said BAPTIZED into their church, NOT saved into their church, and there's only ONE that has a Heaven or Hell, and I'm trusting in Christ's redemptive work for Heaven. Second, Acts 2:38 seems to be a favorite with the members of the coC. Care to read the whole chapter in context? Who was Peter talking to? What sin did they commit? Why were they told to be baptized? The whole chapter is worth reading to understand it's meaning, not just a verse. Lastly, I am fully aware of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I didn't tell ANYONE to run from the truth about Christ. I said to run from ANY church that claims they (alone) have the truth. I'm also aware that Jesus said He would build His church, yet, he NEVER gave His church a name...your belief system comes from Campbell whether you believe it or not. This is no different than having a so-called prophet like in Adventism. You're following a man's belief. Funny, when I was a member nearly 40 years ago, it was a capital 'C' for church. Only recently its been changed to a small 'c' to coincide with Romans 16:16. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ It's also funny how coC members zero in on verse 16, but not much else! These Christians taught of Christ in their homes. This is why these home churches were called churches of Christ. This is not difficult to see for those who see the whole picture, not just one verse.
You started out by using the phrase, "faith alone." So, I looked it up in the New Testament. I only found ONE verse with that phrase..."You see that a person is JUSTIFIED by works and NOT BY FAITH ALONE." (James 2:24) So, it seems, that Christian Faith is a combination of faith and some kind of works. We know that the "works" of the Law of Moses are futile. So, there must be some other works by which we are justified. Perhaps, James, earlier in the letter, makes clear which works? "But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing." (James 1:25) "And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, SAVE YOURSELVES from this crooked generation." (Peter -- Acts 2:40) So, we are not justified by "faith alone." That's a "doctrine of men" wrested from Paul's admonitions to those who were already believers at Rome and in Galatia. "There are some things in them (Paul's letters) that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures." (1 Pet. 3:16) Peace to all...and...keep prayerfully studying!
Thanks for sharing your perspective. The Bible was written in Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic and doesn't translate directly into English. That's why we need scholars and a reliable hermeneutic to gather its meaning. Although God's Word doesn't explicitly use the phrase "faith alone" doesn't mean that it’s not a Bible doctrine. You seem to be Church of Christ. Many of them have been deceived by biblical literalism as a way to understand Scripture. Their motto is that they “call Bible things by Bible names.” The terms Trinity, incarnation, penal substitution, and the deity of Christ, for example, are not found within the pages of the Bible, but they accurately summarize biblical concepts. Also know the history of the Restoration Movement, particularly, Alexander Campbell, who was a stark literalist who held to the faulty CENI hermeneutic. Some call this the “plain reading” method. The Mormons, JW’s, Christadelphians, SDA’s, Oneness Pentecostals, and many other cults employ this as a way to interpret the Bible. He also foolishly adopted the philosophy of John Locke, Francis Bacon, Robert Sandeman, Roman Catholic justification theology (ala Trent) and a number of other errors into his “reform” movement. As a result, the Churches of Christ don’t understand Bible meaning very well. Their myopic view of Scripture is fragmented and unreliable in terms of orthodoxy. The term JBFA usefully summarized Paul's teaching in Romans Ch.'s 3-5. If you have ears to listen to the Holy Spirit (as He enables you to understand the Scripture within the totality of Holy Writ), you will discover that faith saves, absent any works such as baptism or worship rules. Our intellectual pride seeks to find a "workaround" outside of full trust in the gospel of justification by faith alone, which is an essential and non-negotiable doctrine of the Christian faith. I hope that's not what you are seeking to do. To reject the revelation of JBFA (see Ro. 1:17; 3:28; 4:5) -which accompanies grace alone in Christ alone as a descriptor of justification before God, is to reject the perfect, substitutionary, and finished work of Christ's shed blood. This error would mean you are rejecting the free gift of his imputed righteousness and salvation itself. “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Cor. 15:33). Flee churches that teach salvation by works, sacramentalism, or law-keeping as a means of salvation and the truth will set you free!
@@joefranklin1636 thanks for your thoughtful and respectful reply. Scholars are good for one thing...translation. But, getting back to your statement, all you did was repeat and reinforce a doctrine that does not fully integrate the human aspect of "receiving" the free gift of God's grace. We must act...to receive. We must act...to hear. "Faith comes by hearing..." We must act...to repent. "...godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation..." We must act...to confess, etc. These are the Godly works James is talking about. We don't earn salvation...we act and receive the free gift...bought by Christ. "He who loves Me keeps My commandments." "Faith, without works, is dead." Peace...

No, i worked full-time and parked at Walmart to sleep. Often woke up to ice coating the inside. I had to get a little camping stove and worry suffocating. Meanwhile, icoc visitors from out of town never had to get a hotel room. It was obvious that I was always going to be an outsider. Now, a few years later. Im renting a cheap place, thru working not welfare or EBT. I go to Catholic Mass, I don't know anyone but they're not pretending to be my friend either.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I've heard of many such stories coming out of those who have interacted with the International Church of Christ. I'm glad you're in a better place now.
Hey friend, Jesus lays it out crystal clear in the "Parable of the Sheep and the Goats" (found in Matt. 26). Unfortunately, it sounds like you got in with some goats. 😢 Please know that the Lord cares DEEPLY about your situation; so much that He identifies with your suffering as closely as if it were His own. Please continue to prayerfully ask the Lord to lead you to a place of worship among TRUE believers, whose love for the Lord and others is genuine and abundantly evident. He helped me with this process (it took almost a year of prayerful searching...!), and I have no doubt that He'll help you, too.
I am so sorry for the discouragement you experienced… I can recommend another TH-cam channel, The Door from Michael Pearl. It was the first place I heard the truth of the full gospel. I also must note that many in our nation seem to move from cult to cult unknowingly… May God draw them to the truth. 🙏🏼💕
I was introduced to icoc when I was 19 - it was so hard to feel free, struggling through and with the internal battle of sin while being told to work for my faith - May I find my way to Jesus have spiritual internal victory and make it to heaven!
I was in the Church of Christ in high school and then went to a Church of Christ college. Several years later I left the Church of Christ to attend a different church. It was so sad that people who were my college friends would no longer speak to me. There are only two sweet friends will speak with me. I am not out leading some wild reprobate life. I am not in a man centered prosperity gospel megachurch. Just a Bible believing Christian. I have a coworker who is in the Church of Christ. We found out we went to the same college. I don't dare tell her I am not attending a Church of Christ congregation because I know she will think it her obligation to put up that wall between us.
Thanks for sharing this. Your words are a testament to just how diabolical and evil this ideology is… and they do practice shunning. That’s what you’ve just described… and that’s right up there with the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mormons. It’s just a little more sophisticated and respectable but that’s what it is. It sounds like you are still attending a church. It’s just not a church of Christ one true church. They should be happy for you. I know my wife and I were both shunned after leaving the International Church of Christ, which is a Church of Christ offshoot…we found out who our real friends were real quick. On a more positive note, you made the right decision and leaving says a lot about you. God bless you.
My grandmother tried to shame me for getting baptized in another church other than Church of Christ. That was the unhappiest church I ever attended. My great aunt literally told me as a child that only the Church of Christ was going to Heaven.
I would be very fearful if I were you. You are wrong about the churches of Christ. Maybe you had a bad experience where you attended and maybe they were not teaching truth. You are putting your soul in danger putting this out there. You have been deceived.
Fear-mongering doesn't work with me. It would be helpful for you to make a specific biblical refutation of a specific point in the video series that way we could have something constructive to talk about.
@@joefranklin1636 THere are Congregations that may teach in error, that is why we have the ability to challenge that error by use of scripture and should the error continue we may "vote with our feet" "And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet." This was to the 12 apostles and their words are the New Testament so we should do the same in the event of error.
There was too much error in your teaching on the church of Christ to bring up one particular point. Fearing God and his commandments is a real fear you should have! If you are going to be teaching anything other than the gospel in new testament, you are wrong and your false teaching will damn you.. You believe in doctrine that is not supported by the bible. There is a reason Jesus told the apostles to go and preach to every creature baptizing in the name of the Father, son, and Holy Spirit. I have never been to a church of Christ that believes baptism is a work but rather a commandment. And you can’t convince me the Bible is wrong. I cannot speak for all congregations because they are all self governed. Do you realize Stone Campbell movement was very similar to the beliefs of the pilgrims. The first individual self governed congregation in America. Its not a new concept in the history of Christianity wanting to return to the New Testament teachings. The fact that you are comparing the New Testament church with JW’s or Mormons is nonsense.
I listened up to 6:14, and came to the conclusion that you do not understand the position that SDAs hold on the issue of salvation. SDAs do believe in salvation by faith through the grace of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, only. But that is Justification that occurs in a moment. After that comes Sanctification - a life-long process of allowing the Holy Spirit to develop a Christ-like character, including keeping the Ten Commandments (written by God on tablets of stone) . At anytime during sanctification, the SDA may choose to walk away from that established relationship with God, and thus loose his salvation. SDAs do not believe in "Once saved, Always saved".
I understand the SDA viewpoint just fine. No work is the ground for justification before God. If you can lose your salvation by not keeping a Saturday Sabbath then you are the one who needs to prove your point.
@@joefranklin1636 By your response, I still don't think you understand the SDA's position on salvation. Once justification takes place, the believer commits to living a holy life, through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Yes, now and again, he may fall but then repents (which includes a promise to try to do better in the future). Anyone who deliberately sets out to break the expressed commands of God and still thinks he is in a right relationship with that God is deceived. Since you specify the 7th day Sabbath, when was that done away with? And don't tell me that was for the Jews. It was established long before any Jew existed, Jesus declared that it was made for Man, and besides, salvation is of the Jews. Non -Jews who become Christians are grafted into the Jewish spiritual stock. If you insist that it was for the Jews, Christians ARE spiritual Jews.
OSAS. You cannot lose what Jesus gained. You may lose a good witness from less than stellar sanctification, but you maintain justification based on the work of Christ. Jesus died once. Rose once. Saved once, so all believers in him, are once saved ALWAYS saved.
@@andrewatson3992 Are you saying that once I accept the salvation offered by Jesus' death on the cross, I am saved forever? After my justification, I can THEN do WHATERVER I feel like, e.g. commit adultery or robbery? Your position is unbiblical (heresy). The Apostle Paul himself said that he could loose his salvation if he does not walk the walk. 1Co 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (KJV) "I myself should be a cast-away. - This word (ἀδόκιμος adokimos) is taken from “bad metals” and properly denotes those which will not bear the “test” that is applied to them; that are found to be base and worthless, and are therefore rejected and cast away. The apostle had subjected himself to trials. He had given himself to self-denial and toil; to persecution and want; to perils, and cold, and nakedness, and hunger. He had done this, among other things, to give his religion a fair trial, to see whether it would bear all these tests; as metal is cast into the fire to see whether it is genuine, or is base and worthless. In doing this, he had endeavored to subdue his corrupt propensities, and bring everything into captivity to the Redeemer, that it might be found that he was a sincere, and humble, and devoted Christian. Many have supposed that the word “cast-away” here refers to those who had entered the lists, and had contended, and who had then been examined as to the manner in which they had conducted the contest, and had been found to have departed from the rules of the games, and who were then rejected. But this interpretation is too artificial and unnatural. The simple idea of Paul is, that he was afraid that he should be disapproved, rejected, cast off; that it would appear, after all, that he had no religion, and would then be cast away as unfit to enter into heaven. (Albert Barnes)"
Thanks for the question.. there's a slide in the video that defines what a cult is but these are groups that claim to be Christian yet deviate from an essential Christian doctrine.. the Church of Christ and Seventh-Day Adventists reject the Christian Gospel and are pursuing salvation by works.
@@grettaroberts5871 The apostle Paul stressed so strongly that our justification begins with faith and ends with faith, that he used the double force of double prepositions…”from faith to faith” (Rom. 1:17, 3:22). For a faith generated by God is maintained by God. But the content of the CoC’s version of faith constitutes works (things that are seen), whereas the substance that makes up a Christians faith is Christ Himself…. the evidence of what is not seen (Rom. 8:24-25, Heb. 11:1).
@@joefranklin1636 Glad to see you used your own and may I add very subjective definition " essential Christian doctrine." so some doctrine is more essential and other is less ? how handy for you. As a member of a congregation of the Church of Christ since 1984 the idea that we are saved by works is NOT been taught in fact the " For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast." is often referenced from the pulpit. Are you of the mind that Baptism is a work ? if so in your view Acts 2:37-41 are not "essential" ?
I am SDA, and raised so. I was taught salvation is only through my acceptance of Jesus and His sacrifice. Only the 10 Commandments were written by God. Jesus boiled His laws down to love for God and love for others. When I don't love, I need to tell Jesus what I did wrong, and ask Him for forgiveness. Yes, Jesus broke many rules the Jewish leaders had, covering the Sabbath and much else. But, He showed us how to use the Sabbath to build love.
Thanks for sharing. Their are evangelical SDA's who have placed their faith and trust in Christ, absent works of any kind, and are just as saved as anyone else. My channel and this series is directed at the heretical and faith-destroying system of historical Adventism. This predominant stream is steeped in Ellen G. White, early Christian Connection pioneers like James White and the dumpster fire they have made. Blessings!

The Churches of Christ are not a cult. Sola fide is a man made doctrine invented by Martin Luther. I’m sorry you would rather follow Martin Luther instead of Christ.
I've been in Church of Christ for 30 years. educated at a Church of Christ seminary school. never once have I ever heard or been taught anything about Campbell. I know of him through my own studies as I became curious why others keep calling us "Campbellites". I've never heard a single sermon or any other teaching about Campbell's writings in over 30 years. We believe in the Bible in it's entirety period. This means obedience to the scriptures. Others cling to man-made doctrines that absolve them from any type of adherence to the bible. For instance, "sinners prayer", "once saved always saved", etc. If this guy thinks that behavior of the Christian has nothing to do with salvation, he obviously has not read James epistle. Faith without works is dead.
Are you telling us that you went to a COC Seminary and were never informed that Thomas and Alexander Campbell founded the Church of Christ in Brush Run, PA in 1811? What kind of "schooling" is that?
@@joefranklin1636 firstly we don’t have seminaries. Secondly, why you have an axe to grind with a group you clearly have nothing to do with anymore is not a good look?It appears childish. When I watch these videos I see nothing but a child who is lashing out, angry about something. If the Churches of Christ are a cult then so are all of the “christian” denominations. To be a cult you have to worship or follow a human leader. So are the Lutherans a cult for following Martin Luther? The Catholics literally follow a human leader openly are they a cult? It is quite possible that half or more of the members of the Churches of Christ or other groups from the restoration movement have no idea who Alexander Campbell is. And we don’t follow him. Nobody teaches his writings. I bet they can’t even name the publications of his either. There are things he believed that many in the Church today wouldn’t support. The oldest Church of Christ in the world is in Tottlebank Scotland. It was founded in the 17th century at least a century before Alexander Campbell was even born. So it is impossible that he started the Churches of Christ. And he didn’t start the Churches of Christ in the United States either because the oldest congregation in the country, Stony Point Church of Christ in Florence Alabama started meeting in 1816 some 10 years before he even immigrated to the United States.
Nobody I knew in a so called " church of christ" knew diddly about scripture there in central Virginia. Nothing but empty legalism. A man by the name of Hatcher loved to be the boss of the place. He even told me that the book of Revelation was all nothing but allegory. The tiny congregation consisted of his own family members. Though he claimed to be a retired air force officer, he couldn't answer biblical questions. So glad I'm long ago escaped from that cult!!!
We respond to the gospel when we believe the gospel message, which is turning from our sin and sorrow over it and coming to Christ for salvation. That action is an invisible heart action, and it is the only thing that qualifies as a non-work. Everything after that..after we’ve been justified is something that we do during sanctification.. that would include things like baptism and good works. I hope this helps.
I am German and was married to a SDA for 20 years. I never converted and I think this finally killed our marriage. His family always looked down on me and made me understand that they were superior. I do not belong to any church but I do read the Bible. The scriptures are my sole source when it comes to faith. I think the SDAs are right when it comes to the Sabbath. It actually IS the biblical day of rest. However, founding their whole salvation on this one day, is ludicrous IMHO. Moreover, they only allow doctors, nurses and of course Pastors to work on the Sabbath. Which again is totally ridiculous IMHO. In ancient times in Israel, there had been guesthouses (hotels) of course. Did the owners starve their patrons on that day? Hardly. Or what about firefighters? If someone's house was burning on Sabbath, they just let it burn to the ground and if people where in there, it was God's will??? Seriously??? Just because it is not mentioned in the Bible does not mean no one came to rescue. Absence of evidence is simply not evidence of absence. I am going through the divorce process atm and as much of a blow that is to my faith, I am glad I won't have any more ridiculous arguments with my SDA-in-laws. BTW... Sigmund Freud is the man without glasses. 😉
I'm sorry you're going through this it must be heart-wrenching. You've aptly described how divisive and destructive the fundamentalist arm of this group really is.
You do not believe easily with these false prophets/youtubers. They condemn other religions with no understanding what they are saying. God forgives them.
@@ericnasution8687 I hope, you are not insinuating that I don't know what I am talking about. Because after 20 years there's hardly anything I don't know about this "church". And what I described is just the very tip of the iceberg, as you can imagine.
Man oh man, the Boston movement was a bad deal. Legalism gone to seed. their major problem was that they took the teaching of the CofC seriously and actually attempted to live/act it out. I grew up CofC, was there every time the doors were opened, went to college in Abilene, a city set on a hill. Over time it became apparant that the CofC had theologically nailed down every tennant of christendom absolutely lock tight. They had the answer for every question known...except for two things, of which they had absolutely no clue about. The church...and Christ!
I hear you... a lot of people don't know this but they were Unitarian as well coming from the Bartons Stone element in that church and that's why they don't understand the biblical Christ.
Some things for you to check (you might need to update the video) you mentioned Andy Stanley and max Lucado. Recently in fall of 2023 have heard and not verified concern for changes that have taken place in fheir association - please double check as it is very concerning if it’s true.
Thank you for the comment. I have updated the comment section regarding Andy Stanley, and I cannot endorse him whatsoever based on the information that I had after putting the video together. I am not sure if I’ve updated my views on Max Lucado, who I cannot endorse either.
The 7th day Sabbath was a day of rest instituted by God, at the beginning of the earth, before sin entered the world. The Roman Emperor Constantine changed the Sabbath to Sunday in AD 321. Nowhere in the Bible does God say he changed the day. Jesus himself kept the 7th day Sabbath, even to the point of making sure he was buried before sunset on Friday and He rested in the tomb on the Sabbath, then rose from the dead on the first day of the week, Sunday.
@christrescued. Perhaps you could surmise the answer to your question, reading in Genesis, chapter 1:26-28 the 6th day of creation after the animals . 27)"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." Oh yes, one of the comments l'sol @ SDAs vegan diet; the subsequent verses:29-30 tells us what God Himself gives food details for man as well as animals. Genesis 2:1-3: "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.2)And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work.3)And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it(set apart): because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made." The Sabbath was made in the Garden of Eden before the Fall; therefore it is not a type because types were not intoduced until after the Fall. It was given to Adam, the head of the human race. It is not a Jewish institution, since it existed at least 2300 years before there was ever a Jew. The Bible never calls it the Jewish Sabbath although, the biggest cult , Roman Catholicism does. We should be careful how to mention the seventh day sabbath because the Bible address it" the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. Of the Sabbath Jesus said in Mark2:27- 27)"The sabbath was made for *man, and not man for the sabbath. 28) Therefore "the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath." *So yes, if Jesus Christ not only gave it to Adam the first man , why? It stands to reason: yep, they observed the seventh day as a memorial of creation(God didn't need rest because does God get tired? I think not.) Also confirmed is, the One who made it and gave it: the Lord of the sabbath - Jesus Christ. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. -John1:1
@@sanctuary70 Surmise? Sorry, but that is not an answer to the question. Moreover, scriptural proof has yet to be given, concerning a seven-day measurement of time being observed by Adam and Eve. For one, it cannot be done. Because according to the creation account, God's 7th day would have been Adam's 2nd day. Adam's 7th day would have been God's 5th day!! Please think this through biblically.....
@@sanctuary70You never noticed that Jesus BROKE (LUO in Greek) the Sabbath by working? This is the testimony of Jesus... and John! (not Pharisees) LUO means to dissolve, destroy & release us from something. A restrictive weekly ceremony. Cattle (who have no need of "spiritual" rest) enjoyed the Sabbath, given to Moses. Hebrews 4 announces a new day, called "TODAY"! -in contrast with the 7th day, which was simply a shadow
If 7th Day Adventist believe that the Sabbath law has to be kept on a certain day, why not obey all the legalistic laws required of the Jews, including circumcision, animal sacrifice, temple rituals, and the list is endless. Since Hebrew legalism came in a package, not to be separated out, why use "dalmatian theology" to pick out the spots in the law we should obey, disobeying the others? Christ came to bring us the Gospel, which means "Good News". Where is the "good news" in legalism, where we become slaves to the law? (John 8: 36) "when the son sets you free, you will indeed be free".
New Covenant Whole Gospel: What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below. Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Left the LDS church 15 years ago. I was raised in it. Then i went to college and learned history. Majored in it in fact. Had several friends who congratulated me on "getting out." And several asked me a perplexing question...so...which church will you go to now? And it occurred to me. None. When you discover the tools to deconstuct a sect...you have the tools to deconstruct entire religions. If supernatural claims are invslud for one faith...it tutns out they are invalid across the board. Its ridiculous to believe Joseph Smith translated a record shown yo him by an angel. Its also ridiculous to believe a virgin gave birth. Neither happens. The issue we face is that people demand that irrational beliefs be rejected unless...unless..irrational beliefs are part and parcel of their religious life. Logic doesnt work that way.
You don't have to give up on God because of an abusive cult. Something is true. We had to get here somehow. We had a beginning. Science can't explain it. The Truth is Jesus. Seek Jesus with all you have and God will reveal Himself to you. It's not something I can convince you of. God Himself will do that. I had a supernatural encounter when I was born again and there's no other explanation. Seek God, He'll reveal Himself to you supernaturally. Then you'll never doubt Him. You'll know He's real and His word is true. You'll even believe He can make a virgin pregnant. Seriously though, you can believe a God can form everything out of nothing, but the virgin birth is where it falls apart for you? A virgin can get pregnant in a lab. You don't think the creator of life can create... Life?
SDA teaches an investigative judgement before knowing for certain that people are saved. (1 John 5: 13) teaches us that we can know we have eternal life (salvation) now. We do not have to wait until death to know we are saved. (1 John 5: 12) the preceeding verse tells us how we can know we are saved now, without waiting for death. It says that "he that hath the Son hath life". (Romans 8:1) tells us there is no condemnation (judgement) for those which are in Christ Jesus.
Keeping the 10 commandments is salvation by works. Also those who who keep the law are cursed under the Law. All Sabbath keepers are condemn to hell because of the curse of the law. All SDA are not going to Heaven but Hell because curse is the law

Any Christian denomination that teaches that you are saved by your works or your works keep you saved is in my opinion a cult. It is another gospel....and Paul warns against believing in a gospel other than what was preached...
Hey Joe just wanted to say I know your videos don’t have many views but I hope that doesn’t discourage you as your work has been helpful for me coming out of the ICOC. I hope you continue to do what God has called you to do. Godspeed and God bless
I speak to cults over the telephone here in the UK - I've over 40 discussions with the ICC / ICOC here in the UK, including four discussions with European Section leader in the ICC - Michael Williamson. These videos are in my ICC / ICOC playlist. By the way I used to be a Oneness Pentecostal, I left becoming a very firm Trinitarian in 1989.

If you have learned anything then you would know that jesus is a false name. He has a Hebrew name. Do you not know it or are you ashamed of it. YHWH Yahuah, I Am (Our Creator) YaHusha, I am your deliverer. (Our Messiah)
Pull your self up by the “bootstraps” of God’s Word. We don’t care for creeds if it doesn’t align with God’s Word. Follow the Bible not people or churches.
Gods Word is Jesus Christ, not Holy Scripture. Your flavor of “Christianity” tends to use that term for Scripture and for Jesus interchangeably. Jesus and the Bible are not the same thing.
Are you saved before or after baptism? And who does the work? The coC will say not until you are baptized, and not until YOU do that work. But the Bible says that baptism is a working of God. (Col 2:12) You, therefore must be JUSTIFIED by FAITH and BORN OF THE SPIRIT IN ORDER for God to baptize you BY THE POWER OF HIS HOLY SPIRIT. If you are still born of the flesh and are still "perishable" you cannot inherit the IMPERISHABLE. (1 Corinthians 15:50-58) You must therefore put your faith in the POWER OF GOD THROUGH HIS IMPERISHABLE SPIRIT to bring your dead perishable flesh from Spiritual death to IMPERISHABLE life. Only someone that is SPIRITUALLY IMPERISHABLE can IMPART IMPERISHABLE LIFE AND TRANSFORM WHAT IS SPIRITUALLY DEAD INTO SOMETHING THAT HAS SPIRITUAL, ETERNAL LIFE. THEREFORE, dead human flesh can NEVER bring ITS OWN dead human flesh from spiritual death to Spiritual life. Only the Spirit of the living God can take dry bones, dead in trespasses and rebellion against God, and make them spiritually alive (Ephesians 2:1-5).
Thanks for sharing the church of Christ has never understood regeneration or the new birth and it dates back to Alexander Campbell who didn’t understand it. Their whole theology is so twisted and messed up and you’ve made that really clear that without the Holy Spirit we cannot do any works of righteousness and baptism by water is a work of righteousness. That’s what Jesus said he was baptized to fulfill all righteousness, so therefore anything that the church of Christ does up to baptism is a dead work in the flesh Hebrews 6:1-2

Someone doesn’t realize that he church of Christ was founded on the day of Pentecost, circa 33 AD and that she existed in Europe and even in the Americas before Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone gave up protestant denominationalism, and returned to the Lord’s church. One’s mind could be clouded with TULIP mania.
I am well aware of their claim but that doesn't make it so. Alexander Campbell, Barton Stone and Walter Scott all lay claim to having restored the Church in 1811.. restored the gospel in 1823... Implemented the gospel in 1827 after the church feli away and lay dormant for nearly eighteen hundred years.
@@joefranklin1636 if I or someone else lay claim to have started your Protestant denomination last year would that make it so? If 200 years from now someone read my claim would that make it so? It would not. The “restoration movement” is a term I certainly don’t approve of. No one can restore something that isn’t lost so those people were not restoring the Lord’s church (because it has never gone away) they were simply joining the Lord’s church independently of seeing her existence around them and leaving man’s church. The Rumney Marsh church of Christ was in Massachusetts in 1710. I’ll link a Wikipedia page to it if TH-cam doesn’t delete the comment for having a link. The oldest church of Christ I have heard of in Alabama has a historical marker stating 1807 as it’s start. James Bainham preached at the church of Christ in Bow Lane London and was tortured and burned for preaching that one must be baptized for the remission of sins back in 1532. I was raised Methodist, but after I decided to only live and worship by the Bible alone (specifically, the NT) I was baptized into Christ and He added me to His church of Christ. I later earned my Bachelor’s degree in Ministry from Harding University back in 2004. Church history is a very interesting subject. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Christ_(Revere,_Massachusetts)
That’s the claim that nearly every denomination makes. (And yes, the CoC is a denomination.) Most of them started as attempts to “return to the Bible” and “obey God rather than men.” The CoC’s claim isn’t unique. Or accurate.
@@mcr9822 I don’t claim to have reformed anything. When I did what the 1st century church was taught to be saved Jesus added me to His church. This is how I am church of Christ. When I worship as the 1st century church worship I’m worshiping with the church of Christ. Jesus doesn’t have any denominations. Denominations are Protestant, aka, “Catholicism lite.” Have you considered abandoning man’s religious practices that reformed Catholicism by removing heresies they didn’t like and adding in ones thy do like? Consider leaving all of that and instead becoming a Christian only and live and worship as the 1st century church did.
He should have defined the word "cult" before starting because SDA's don't fit under the definition. Had EGW ever said anything against what scripture says, she would have been set aside just as easily.
@@alcedo_kf You'll need to substantiate the claim that SDA's are a cult. I'd say Catholics fit under that definition way before any SDA. They have a leader they think speaks for God and even changed(thought he did) Gods law and people follow without question.
Get your facts right when you say the COC is a cult. Learn about its origin directly from the bible, it's builder and its belief and doctrine from the bible and bible alone! As you take your time to check them out you will realize that anyone differing from what the bible teaches, though their name or doctrine may have similarities, to the COC, but not founded in the bible they are obviously not one of us! Check your facts from the bible!
Campbellites claim that their Church began on the day of Pentecost but the reality is that their 'ancient gospel' discovery was unearthed in 1823 by Mr. Campbell and then put into practice by Walter Scott in 1827. The idea that the church feliway and was restored by these gentlemen is absurd.
@@joefranklin1636Forgive my late comment, but have you looked into Eastern Orthodoxy, if so, what are your thoughts? Also how do you reconcile soteriological passivity with James 2:24 “You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.”?
@@christrescuedme2182so you don’t believe someone can choose to respond to the Good News of Christ? Then what is the point of your speaking about it to people you believe don’t accept the true Gospel? God is the creator of time. He doesn’t view events like we do. Yes, He does have foreknowledge and yes we can choose or reject shim because He gave us free Will.
@@adamholmes1992 So you do acknowledge the doctrine of God's foreknowledge; a belief that happens to affirm that God already foreknew who would accept Him and who wouldn't, before He ever even created them. Therefore, in order to be consistent, you would also have to affirm the unchangeable nature of His foreknowledge, or else you would be denying God's omniscience, which is an essential doctrine of the faith.
Thanks for the synthesis you are providing regarding the historical connection between the restoration movement and 4 present day Christian sects you are covering.
church of Christ, founded the day of Pentecost, circa 33 AD. She has been in existence since that date, continuously anywhere someone has heard the Word of God, believed it, repented of their sins, made a public confession Jesus is Lord, and got baptized into the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. church of Christ Bow Lane London, England before 1532. church of Christ Rumney Marsh Massachusetts, USA 1710. church of Christ Alabama, USA 1807. Jesus started His church. Not the so called “restoration movement” that happened after the dates of these congregations I just posted. Jesus’ actual one church doesn’t use the weak assumptions of mere mortals such as John Calvin or Martin Luther, or a Pope. His church uses God’s Word alone. Not heresy of men who created Orthodox/Catholic/Protestant/Pentecostal religions or LDS/SDA/JW/BHI/ICOC/CS cults.
God’s church was already in existence or else it could NOT have been renewed and added to (e.g., Gen. 28:17, Mt. 16:18-19; 18:17, Lk. 12:32, Acts 2:36, 47; 15:16). Moses was just a servant in God's house, but Jesus was a Son OVER God's house, EVEN THEN (Heb. 3:3-6), because Jesus has always been the Head of the church, His body, His sheep. The church was founded upon faith in Jehovah (Jesus) from the very beginning (Ex. 6:2-3). Paul quoted Joel 2:32 in Rom. 10:13, to confirm the fact that Yahweh (or Jehovah) in the O.T. was the pre-incarnate Christ. And the new covenant is confirmation of God’s promises of His grace in Christ, through faith, that had been given to the church since the world began (Joel 2:32, Rom. 10:13, Heb. 8:8-9). Since there has always been one Great Shepherd, He has always had one sheepfold (Jn. 10:16) throughout redemptive history; sometimes referred to as the church in the wilderness, God’s sanctuary, the house of Israel, the tabernacle of David, the heavenly Jerusalem, or the general assembly and church of just men made perfect, etc. (e.g., Ezek. 37: 26-27, Acts 7:38, Heb. 12:22-23). So, a new state of the church beginning at Pentecost (the time of renewal), never meant an altogether “new church” (with “new terms of salvation”) that had never existed before. However, the CoC claims to be a “new church” that had never existed before, that supposedly began at Pentecost, which confirms the fact that it is, indeed, a heretical cult.
@@christrescuedme2182 …..so you admit that the church you belong to, started in the 1500’s AD, isn’t the church spoken of in the Bible. It’s nice to see you repent!
@@adamholmes1992 Not sure who you are addressing, because your comment is not even a logical or biblical response to what I've written. But anyway, I personally worship God everywhere I go!! For true born-again believers, who are eternally indwelt by the Holy Spirit, can worship God in spirit and in truth, and have fellowship with other believers, no matter where they are in this physical realm. Unlike the ancient church in the Old Testament, worship is no longer restricted to a place, but is now acceptable to God to lift up holy hands to Him everywhere (Mal. 1:11, 1 Tim. 2:8). Our worship is not restricted to a visible church system where even hypocrites and unbelievers can gather. Jesus is said to dwell among His people, as in a tabernacle (Jn. 1:14; 2:19, 1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19, Eph. 2:22; 3:17, Heb. 10:20, Rev. 11:2, 19; 21:3, 22), which is why we can worship God anywhere, anytime, and in any circumstance, for the Holy Spirit indwells us wherever we go....whether it's from "house to house" or on a lofty mountain top! Jesus made it clear to the Samaritan women at the well, that the hour was coming, when God’s people would worship Him in spirit and in truth (Jn. 4:21-24), for the Bible describes the body of Christ as being invisible, spiritual and mystical (i.e. Eph. 2:19-22; 5:32, 1 Pet. 2:4-10). When the Samaritan woman at the well emphasized “places of worship” (in the mountains, and in Jerusalem), Jesus made it clear to her where true worship takes place, for we are to worship Him in spirit and in truth regardless of where we may be in this physical realm (Jn. 4:20-24). True Christians have been spiritually baptized into the body of Christ, by the Holy Spirit, through faith (1 Cor. 12:13), which is why we can worship Him and be in spiritual union with other believers “in every place” (1 Cor. 1:2). The true body of Christ is His sheep, eternally indwelled and sealed by the Holy Spirit Who never leaves them, despite the fact that they are often scattered by wolves in sheep’s clothing (such as the CoC), as a fulfillment of biblical prophecy.
@@adamholmes1992 I would be in doctrinal alignment with the majority of the Reformed Baptists as far as doctrine goes. And yes, I am in protest against Rome. Unlike the CoC denomination, our confessions of faith renounce that kind of sacramental salvation system. When one reads God’s Word, in context, it is clear that the names of true believers are written in heaven (Phil. 3:20, Rev. 3:5). Therefore, our names do NOT have to be written by men on a denominational membership roll (like that of the CoC), in order to be saved, as the CoC would so deceptively have us to believe, whose adulterated theology originated from Rome (Dan. 12:1-3, Heb. 12:23, Rev. 20:12-15; Rev. 21:27).

Hello AD. I am hoping you receive this advice with curiosity and a yearning to learn. Pray to God to graciously show you the truth that you seek. Start with just one topic like the Saturday Sabbath mandate of the SDA's. If you want to be a Sabbath-keeper that's fine but the SDA's have made it a rule to live by and they damn everyone else who worship, not on the Saturday (the 7th day) but on Sunday (the first day of the week). You will want to study out Romans 14:5-6; Col. 2:14, 16; and Gal. 4:10. Know that the fist day of the week is marked out by the resurrection of our Lord (Acts 20:7-8; 1 Cor. 16:2; John 20:19). Living faith in Christ, not bondage, is what matters (Gal. 5:6; 6:15). The Bible blesses the man who regards "every day alike" (Ro. 14:5). This passage assumes a true believer only. In the following verse "He who regards the day" or DOES NOT regard as special the 7th day gives "thanks to God" and does so "unto the Lord." I hope this helps you in your journey friend, God Bless and let Scripture interpret Scripture.
@@joefranklin1636 Joe, you are incorrect. Scripture itself condemns those who do not honor the Seventh Day Sabbath. He will know we are HIs if we follow His Commands.

Please how is this different from my experience: I received a vision for three hours while speaking with Jesus, his directives were I should build a church and preach about his eminent coming coming that he insisted is not far from now. Jesus instruction was the church name shall be church of Christ, my question is how will the name church of Christ affect the doctrine Christ has entrusted me? I think the name doesn't matter , what matters is the doctrine preached.
Many don't realize that the "Restoration Movement" itself came out of Presbyterianism. Thomas and Alexander Campbell were kicked out of that church, and started their own religion, with the help of Barton Warren Stone and Walter Scott. My maternal grandmother's family in Putnam County, TN were hard-core Church of Christ going back to their 5th great-grandmother Martha (Buchanan) Steele's first cousin - Celia Wilson Bowen who was the 2nd wife of Barton W. Stone. My late mother-in-law's parents were Seventh Day Adventists. My wife told me her grandmother used to cook those horrid soybean burgers because SDA's believe it's a sin to eat meat. Lol
That same comparison has come to mind when I've read what some Presbyterians have written over the centuries. This kind of proto-restorationism in Presbyterianism is something that Lutherans always have refused. Luther, unlike Knox, did not "unchurch" Roman Catholicism, despite how much he scolded and reproved it. Luther recognised that the Church, however sullied over the centuries, did not disappear during the long Middle Ages.
@@geraldparker8125 And the Presbyterians hated the Quakers. One of my wife's ancestors was a Quaker and the Presbyterians cut his ears off and he fled to North Carolina. This was pre-Revolutionary War.

To me the best explanation of a cult is the bite model. Behavior control information control through control and emotion control. When i look at any organization i apply those critiria and see if it fallss into those thngs
Thanks for the comment. I like the B.I.T.E. model and have had the pleasure of speaking to Steven Hassan about cultic mind control. I also utilize Lifton's Eight Criteria and the research of Margaret Singer. I think of "unfreezing, change, and refreezing" as the main summation of "brainwashing." Hassan simply took all this info and put his own spin on it. Not taking anything away from him but just saying. As a Christian apologist and gospel defender I appeal to the Word of God to inform my labeling of a group. The ultimate battle in our day is the battle for the gospel. Everything, including abuse and psycho-social manipulation is downstream from that.

“Walking BY the Spirit” is not something we do in order to get the Spirit’s help, but rather, just as the phrase implies, it is something we do BY the enablement OF the Spirit. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:6). So if we are walking BY the Spirit, we are abiding in Him and are enabled BY the Spirit to walk as He walked. And if we are walking as He walked and obeying his commandments, who are we to credit for abiding in Him and walking as He walked? Our own spirit or the Holy Spirit? “By this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us” (1 John 3:24).
The Catholic Church certainly has a number of faults (like all religious groups), but at least it uses an authentic bible based on the hebrew-greek originals and it does not impose doctrine and allows believers to use their own free will and encourages free research, as is stated several times in the Bible on the subject of "false prophets". It also does not give false advice on health issues. It does not question God's word and does not make him into a senile old man with Alzheimer's whose words absolutely have to be renewed or constantly improved, which many cults presume to do and which is pure blasphemy.

Well, as an adult convert to Roman Catholicism, sorry to see you go. There is certainly salvation outside of the RCC; six of the 12 Apostles went East, not West. But only in Christ is there salvation. I was never told anything any different. We are saved by faith. But we are judged by works. If faith was all we needed, then who believes in Jesus more than Satan, who spoke to Him face to face? The demons who tormented the Gadarene man believed in Jesus enough to obey Him. Are they saved? Doubtful. The souls of the righteous ARE in Heaven, they can see and hear us, and John SAW them, crying out to Jesus in Revelation. If it were not so, the Bible would not say so.
Well, there will be differences of opinion as long as there are people. We don't call you 'snake cults' or other names, we call you 'separated brethren. No institution run by men can achieve perfection here on Earth, but the books of our great mystics even today inspire a flame in the heart, not a tepid handshake and a toothy smile. Protestantism left me cold. Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, all ten miles wide but an inch deep. The writings of Augustine, Teresa of Avila, Thomas Aquinas, John of the Cross, set my heart on fire for Jesus as nothing I have ever known. The beauty of the great Baroque cantatas, the paintings of Leonardo, Raphael, the mighty and breathtaking Cathedrals...it seems a pedestrian, flat-liner fervor doesn't create much inspiration, does it? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot those lovely Hillsong hymns ...' here I am to worship, here I am to etc. I, I, I. Well, those fried chicken and potato salad suppers were great. Plenty of Jello. The median culture level of Midwestern Protestant culture doesn't really get better than that. But, I decided to ask for more. I needed more. I needed real passion, real sacrifice, real love..a real Jesus. I found Him . Not at a dying church selling cruises and running Bible camps in desperation to keep the doors open, but in a Christ who demands at the door that I be worthy of His church. It's hard to become a Catholic as an adult. Months of classes. Months of preparation. Months of proving faithfulness. But it was worth it.
@@Esme-gf4jd Yes you call others "separated brethren" but you have a problem with seeking and claiming supremacy of authority over all. That is disqualifying; the sin of pride.
JF: Thank you for your calm and reasoned presentation, it was informative if not quite on the mark. As a 47-years member of the church of Christ, I would completely disavow any connections or likeness to the ICOC. I've dealt with people from that situation, and your assessment of them is correct. I am disappointed at your statements that church of Christ imposes a salvation-by-works demand on people. In my years, at about 18 congregations in 6 states, I have never heard anyone says that salvation is obtained by works of man, and I seem to have missed all the hellfire and brimstone sermons. I concur generally that the delineated 5-step plan of salvation is a little much, but it is not without NT basis. Every conversion to Christianity in Acts included water baptism, and if that is considered a work for salvation, I think that a commanded action and one described as leading to salvation is needing doing, not discounting the multiple passages which speak to faith and grace. I think a fair assessment would consider all relevant passages, and our job as students of God's word is to find the answer that lets all of them be true. As a final note, I am disappointed that this really wasn't about 4 cults, but just the one group of your own bad experiences. I'm sorry you fell in with those people, but they are not the norm. Do I sound like a hardliner if I say let's do just what the Bible says? Matt 12.50
@@dscott3421 Thank you for your calm response and for the ideas that you’ve put forth. The fact that you have not heard a gospel presentation at your services that state explicitly that salvation is obtained by works of man means very little when your own plan of salvation on baptism makes the ordinance a requirement for salvation. Alexander Campbell, the founder of your church, went too far in that he made baptism a requirement for salvation when in fact, the Bible teaches that it’s a requirement for obedience after conversion. Paul was very clear in first Corinthians 1:17 that baptism is not part of the gospel. Elsewhere he has made it very clear in Romans chapter 4 verses one through eight that we are justified by faith alone. I’m sorry that you’re having such a hard time with this simple teaching. I will pray for you. I do have a teaching channel that will go through all of this in detail, including Greek and every complicated argument that your church puts forth. I hope you take the time to look at it prayerfully.youtube.com/@sparrowministry9454?si=lejOwSa40MtTSy5Y .
@@joefranklin1636 I have not heard this argument before, but Paul wrote 1Cor 1.17 after 1Cor 1.13-15, in which he is truly clear that him not baptizing was to avoid factions based on himself having baptized anyone. I welcome any examination of the Greek, since I learned both Latin and koine Greek in school. But if you would care to offer further reply, please explain your application of 1Pet 3.21, where the phrasing exactly says "baptism which corresponds to this now saves you". Many centuries of translational scholarship all say the same thing from Acts 2.38, that repentance and baptism are for remission for sins, and Acts 22.16, where Paul's own baptism was to wash away his sins. And it will have no more value to quote or cite other passages saying things about faith and grace, I am glad for their presence and I don't discount those, but these others seem to have no creedence from you. They also are God's own word speaking to us, not me, not A.Campbell, so I ask as before, what answer lets all the passages give us a right and full understanding?
I was i.c.o.c for a year and a half. It was very easy to leave, they made it clear that I wasn't welcome . No amount of Bible study, which I discovered I was really interested in. No amount of praying and strictly adhering to doctrine made a difference. I am back in Catholicism, they don't care about me either but at least they never pretended to😂.
@barbwire7449 well, you see Barbie, the poor people ICOC despises have faith and a sound doctrine even though they don't own a fancy home and work a low wage job. Like it or not, people without a lot of money go to Heaven too.
@@AnarSchism. I judge no one. In no way am I saying that the ICOC members or Catholics are not going to heaven. My Bible tells me that those who believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ are saved. Salvation is a free gift to anyone who accepts it. I am sure there are those in every denomination that are saved. My remark was to imply that you jumped from one cult to another. Catholics believe we have to "maintain" our salvation by works. If there are strings attached to salvation, then it is no longer "salvation", it becomes "probation", and is no longer a free gift. (Ephesians 2: 8,9) is clear that salvation is a gift from God, a miracle, and independent of works. We should do good works to become effective Christians; we do good works to glorify Jesus because of His free gift, but some Christians will do no works (thief on the cross), yet still be saved. (Romans 4:5)
@@AnarSchism. Life is a series of choices and consequences. If we make good choices, we have positive consequences; if we make bad choices we have negative consequences. But, the most important choice in life is to either (1) accept or (2) reject the Son. It will determine our eternal destination. I have made my choice; I have accepted the Son, His work on the cross, and His free gift of salvation. Like the thief on the cross, in my life, I have done everything wrong. But, Jesus did everything right. He forgave the thief with His "amazing grace". He will forgive me likewise. There is a comforting and awesome promise in the Bible that I intend to collect on one day, (Romans 10:11) "Whoever believes on Him shall not be put to shame". I trust Jesus to keep this promise. God bless you!! I am @peace with the Scriptures.
The fact that the title calls several million people “cult members” doesn’t seem very Christian to me, true or not. Is this an exercise in triumphalism? I don’t see the point in putting time, effort, or money to attack others when one could be spreading the words of Jesus. you know “The Good News” Or making disciples for that matter.
OK...I was enjoying this video up to the point where you gave a plug for Andy Stanley....then you lost me. You cannot make a video going after apostate churches and then turn around and endorse Andy Stanley, one of the most apostate preachers out there.
Thank you for the comment and you are correct. At the time that I created the video I was not aware of how problematic he was theologically. I'll put a retraction in the comments in the next day or so. Please don't stop watching the video due to my oversight in this one area.
@@joefranklin1636 Thank you for this response. False teachers have exponentially increased in the last 100 years, and the last 40 years we have seen an explosion of these charlatans. I will go back and finish the video now. I was raised in the Church of Christ and I come from a family who has a long history of ministry in that institution. I broke away from that religion and now follow Christ only by intense study in the Word and I attend a Bible church that I have found scripturally and doctrinally sound. But if I watch a video and get the impression that a false teacher is being elevated, I stop immediately. At this time in church history, it is especially that born again believers know the Bible so well that when we see or hear the teachings of a false teacher, red flags should be all over the place. Matthew 7:1. Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Tony. This chapter in Matthew 7 is one of the most misused texts of all times. I am assuming you are saying that I am "judging" sinfully. If not I apologize. I am not violating Mt. 7:1. This passage teaches us to judge righteously and make biblical decisions and determinations. It also warns of those who are doing the very things they criticize others for doing. "Exhort in sound doctrine and refute those who contradict" (Titus 1:9).
@@joefranklin1636 Joe you did not judge righteously when you placed the SDA among cults. If the Word of God defines the true end-time church as those who keep God's commandments and have the faith of Jesus Christ as found in Rev. 14:12 and Rev. 12:17 then The Seventhday Adventist church is not a cult. I do not know about the other churches you mentioned but you must look at the fundamental believes or doctrines of the SDA before reaching to such conclusion. @@christrescuedme2182 Of course not. Moses received the 10 commandments circa 1500 BC. Adam and Eve lived circa 4000 BC. Adam and Eve had the fulness of the gospel, but that is not spelled out in Genesis. Very little is spelled out in the first 2500 years from Adam to Moses, but it is clear that God had called prophets to whom he revealed his word and will.
@@bobrussell8339 The move from the Old Covenant to the New, pointed to a progressive revelation of God’s eternal plan of redemption, not a contradictory revelation of the gospel (Rom. 3:29-30, 10:9, Eph. 4:5-6). Differences in degree never meant a difference in substance (Acts 18:26, 2 Cor. 3:9-18). Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8). So the gospel has always been the same, for He is the very substance of the gospel (Psa. 119:89). He confirmed the eternality of the gospel at the cross. Every aspect of salvation is a fact of eternity before it ever takes place in time (Rom. 8:28-30). The eternity of the cross reveals that O.T. saints were saved exactly the same way (through faith), and upon the exact same basis (God’s grace through Christ and His work) that every sinner throughout redemptive history has ever been saved, regardless of the different dispensations, and their different modes of regulation. Because Jesus’ atonement was timeless. It covered the entire realm of time itself; past, present and future (Ps. 90:2, Acts 15:9, Eph. 1:10, Heb. 4:3, Rev. 13:8). God’s everlasting covenant of salvation was concluded with Abraham BEFORE there was ever a temple, circumcision or the Law of Moses (Gal. 3:8, 16, Heb. 2:16, 8:10 and 11:18). Thus, those who belong to Christ are spiritual descendants of Abraham BY FAITH (Rom. 4, Gal. 3:14). But the restoration cults have always taught the exact opposite… by proclaiming a different plan of salvation… a DIFFERENT GOSPEL that includes man's own works (legalistic sabbath keeping, etc.). And God has placed it, and those who promote it, under a divine curse (Gal. 1:6-9).
Calvinism is the Gospel. I have never heard of anyone reading Calvin's Institutes and refuting any of it. He mostly wrote to attempt to convince Roman Catholics . He wrote most of it not long after leaving the Catholic Church. Calvin's commentaries are more widely read. Calvin actually wrote only a few paragraphs on what is called "Calvinism" and it's not a detailed polemic with the now familiar Five Points. . What is termed "Calvinism" was developed after his death by others, mostly Dutch theologians. Even the TULIP is only about a hundred years old. The primary objection to "Calvinism" is the Biblical claim that God is fully sovereign in all things - no exceptions. Calvin never wrote as if anyone did not have a so called "freewill" in the moral sense - those in hell deserve to be there. Calvin was a grace teacher, he was not a determinist as is the focus of the false criticism against the man . Luther's On the Bondage of the Will is more "Calvinist" than anything John Calvin wrote.
He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:6). “By this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us” (1 John 3:24). Therefore, in order to walk as He walked (obey God), His Spirit must already be abiding in us and we must be abiding in Him.
I grew up conservative fundie church of Christ. I’m a full blown atheist now 🤷🏻♀️ And sure there could be a “god” out there.. (I tend to think it’s space) but I don’t think it has ANYTHING to do with Christianity or any religion. That’s ridiculous. Just because you think a god created everything doesn’t mean any religion is true.
It is truly tragic to think of how many have gone to eternity cherishing the false hope of Campbellism. For anyone who has the regrettable persistence to follow CoC doctrine all the way through to its logical conclusion will be hopelessly lost in the end. Beliefs have consequences, and the false belief that Christ is an incomplete Savior, will eventually reap the natural consequence of complete apostasy. And sadly, you have demonstrated this truth.
Very cool Laurie. Like you, I was a diehard believer back in the day and even involved in ministry. I eventually went though a deconversion process of 2-3 years. It's not that I found Christianity to be all wrong - it's more so that I just outgrew it. I find divinity in nature, and I have learned to be content with that.
@@christrescuedme2182Very sad what you say but true. People robbed of Christ's saving grace by being put to work by wolfs in sheep's clothing. (COC) The simple promise of Jesus; to him who believes shall not perish but has eternal life.
As part of a (Confessional) Lutheran seminary class I had to pick a non-liturgical Protestant church to assess its service and critique the sermon. The people were very nice. However, the long sermon was 100% law and God's grace and forgivness of sins was not mentiioned at all.
Love the strong emphasis on grace within the Lutheran Church. My wife and I attended the a church within the Missouri Synod recently and still have dear friends there. There is almost no gospel at all within these 19th century startups. They reject original sin and look to Locke's "Law of Works" replete with a Pelagian gospel and no assurance of salvation. Sad.
That is the problem with protestant churches. Most christians are unaware that a large percentage of protestant churches claim to be "grace alone", but are actually just extensions of catholic dogma. Their statement of faith in reality is, "we are saved at the cross, but...." Then, they add their condition after the "but". I call them the "but teachers". They will add "baptism in our church, perseverance, maintaining salvation, communion in our church, good works (although they never tell us how many or what kind of works)", and the list is endless. Only a small % of protestant churches are actually "grace" churches. Members leave cults due to the burn-out from bondage, only to face more confusion from all the different denominations and utube preachers, teaching hundreds of different paths to salvation. It is enough to confuse the devil. Cult members turn to atheism out of frustration and despair. Jesus says, "come unto me and I will give you rest". Rest? Rest? How can it be rest when someone is always looking over their shoulders wondering if they have done enough good works to merit salvation, wondering if they measure up, wondering if they met the good works quota, wondering if they somehow stumbled in faith, worrying that God will snatch away their salvation at any moment? Rest? Rest? Sounds like hell to me. Churches have rejected the simplicity in Christ (2 Cor: 11:3).
Thanks Joe, very interesting and much appreciated. Its hard to see a cult until some time after exit. The best fictional video which describes the process of leaving one eg the JW's Mormons etc is 'The Trueman Show'.
I came across a young man from the Church of Christ. Maintaining his church is strictly based on the apostles' doctrine, he argued playing musical instruments is wrong since there's no record the apostles did it. He quoted a verse from the old testament to support it.
Actually, ANY book claiming that the Jews reached South America before Columbus is insane. A people who were LITERATE,a people expert in building, metalwork, agriculture, who preserved the integrity of the Hebrew language anywhere they went, all of a sudden get to the Americas and leave no trace? Joseph Smith knew neither Hebrew nor Greek. He had to invent a bogus language for his tablets. Anyone who falls for Mormonism does so because they lack basic education in world history. Anywhere a civilization has been they leave evidence. I believe the Hebrews did actually sojourn in Egypt, although not in the numbers claimed in Exodus. The names of Aaron's sons are Egyptian names. Any Mexican American family can have a son named Jason and a daughter named Melissa. Cultural contact leaves traces. But the whole Jews in America story is ridiculous.
If you have learned anything then you would know that jesus is a false name. (The preface of your bible before the Book of Genesis actually tells you that, but I guess you've never read that part.) @@regularguy3202 baptism "for" the remission of sins is in light of understanding the gospel that those who believe it are saved the moment they believe. So baptism that saves is just Roman catholicism in disguise Do a word study on "for" it does not effect salvation.
@@murraylloyd6011 Hi there Murray. Well yes sir I have done a word study on the Greek word “eis” from which “for” is taken. Jesus uses it in Matt 26:28. To paraphrase, Christ tells his disciples that his blood be poured out “for” the forgiveness of sin, not because sin is already forgiven. If I remember correctly, the word eis always looks forward in time. I always like to ask folks when was Saul of Tarsus saved? At what point in time? Also, when did the Ethiopian nobleman go forth rejoicing? I agree with you that belief/faith is the crux of the issue. It all hinges upon that. Without it, one is just a wet sinner. Peter said that baptism saves, not just at Pentecost, but clearly in his first letter. Was Peter wrong? Was Ananias wrong about Saul? Peace.

The church of christ (c.o.c.) is not the true church as they say it is. It is merely another denomination sect if Christianity.

How Satan Hides the Gospel
We are told in II Corinthians 4:3-4 how Satan hides the gospel and causes souls to be lost. Satan hides the gospel by blinding our minds to the gospel. Light allows us to see. If light is not directed upon the gospel of the grace of God, then how will we be able to see our gospel?
II Corinthians 4:3-4
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Just because you disagree with the beliefs of a particular religion doesn't mean it's a cult.

A religion that errs from the Gospel of the Bible is a cult. The Gospel of Jesus. Not water a gospel of water
PSA: Not all churches of Christ are the same and governed by the international church of Christ. A lot of the coc’s are completely separate from the icoc which is cultist. That’s all I know about the church of Christ, I’m hoping I will learn more by people who reply to this. Just wanted to let y’all know. God bless ❤

Easy sub!
I agree and its heartbreaking. It's good to have the material in hand when, and if, the rationalization shelf collapses.

This dude is full of it. I mean he has some truth mixed in with lies.

One of these things is not like the others. Three out of four of these have extensive extra biblical teaching that contradicts scripture itself, whereas the COC only mantra is scripture alone. Trying to conflate these is embarrassingly dishonest.
The CoC's official literature bears witness to the fact that it is not being misrepresented when it is identified as a cult.

You started out by using the phrase, "faith alone."
So, I looked it up in the New Testament. I only found ONE verse with that phrase..."You see that a person is JUSTIFIED by works and NOT BY FAITH ALONE." (James 2:24)
So, it seems, that Christian Faith is a combination of faith and some kind of works. We know that the "works" of the Law of Moses are futile. So, there must be some other works by which we are justified.
Perhaps, James, earlier in the letter, makes clear which works?
"But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing." (James 1:25)
"And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, SAVE YOURSELVES from this crooked generation." (Peter -- Acts 2:40)
So, we are not justified by "faith alone." That's a "doctrine of men" wrested from Paul's admonitions to those who were already believers at Rome and in Galatia.
"There are some things in them (Paul's letters) that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures." (1 Pet. 3:16)
Peace to all...and...keep prayerfully studying!

I was in the CoC for over 30+years until the Lord saved me. You may be interested in how I came to Christ.
How does Church of Christ reject the gospel when they teaches straight from the Bible? Stop bashing churches for your personal gain.

1Co 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (KJV)
"I myself should be a cast-away.
Can you define the word 'cult'?
Thanks for the question.. there's a slide in the video that defines what a cult is but these are groups that claim to be Christian yet deviate from an essential Christian doctrine.. the Church of Christ and Seventh-Day Adventists reject the Christian Gospel and are pursuing salvation by works.
@@joefranklin1636 That is your definition of cult, not the definition of cult. Perhaps you mean sect?
You are wrong. Works are essential to keep your faith alive, period. I am saved by faith, but faith without works is dead! James 1

@@theHoff1974 I was in the CoC for over 30+years until the Lord saved me.
If you are save by faith alone, then you do nothing you are save?

@@babmushe Thanks for the suggestion. I am aware that Judaism is the source of Christianity. But in fact, I believe in Jesus Christ.

So.they are also a cult?
Yup

Can you provide Scripture to prove that Adam and Eve observed a 7th day sabbath?
@christrescued. Perhaps you could surmise the answer to your question, reading in Genesis, chapter 1:26-28 the 6th day of creation after the animals . 27)"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them."
Oh yes, one of the comments l'sol @ SDAs vegan diet; the subsequent verses:29-30 tells us what God Himself gives food details for man as well as animals.
Genesis 2:1-3:
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.2)And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work.3)And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it(set apart): because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made."
The Sabbath was made in the Garden of Eden before the Fall; therefore it is not a type because types were not intoduced until after the Fall.
Of the Sabbath Jesus said in Mark2:27-
27)"The sabbath was made for *man, and not man for the sabbath.
28) Therefore "the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath."
*So yes, if Jesus Christ not only gave it to Adam the first man , why? It stands to reason: yep, they observed the seventh day as a memorial of creation(God didn't need rest because does God get tired? I think not.)
Also confirmed is, the One who made it and gave it: the Lord of the sabbath - Jesus Christ.
This is the testimony of Jesus... and John! (not Pharisees)
LUO means to dissolve, destroy & release us from something.
You are wrong about Seven Day Adventits

New Covenant Whole Gospel:
What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18.
Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Life?
SDA Church does not teach salvation by works. They keep the 10 commandments because they love God. "If you love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15.
They keep the 10 commandments??? Really?? Thanks for giving me the idea of my next video. Roc
By the way bro, it was not just the 10..oh I'll explain in my new video. Appreciate you man
SDA teaches an investigative judgement before knowing for certain that people are saved.
@@barbwire7449 1Peter 4:17, "Judgement starts at the house of the Lord..."
Revelation 14:6-7, " ...the hour of judgement has come."
Keeping the 10 commandments is salvation by works. Also those who who keep the law are cursed under the Law. All Sabbath keepers are condemn to hell because of the curse of the law. All SDA are not going to Heaven but Hell because curse is the law

The Lord does NOT exist

I am comfortable with the facts I've laid out in these videos and I'm absolutely sure they accurately reflect Church of Christ's teachings.

The church of Christ is the ONLY church Jesus shed His blood for!!
church of Christ, founded the day of Pentecost, circa 33 AD. She has been in existence since that date, continuously anywhere someone has heard the Word of God, believed it, repented of their sins, made a public confession Jesus is Lord, and got baptized into the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins.
church of Christ Bow Lane London, England before 1532.
church of Christ Rumney Marsh
Massachusetts, USA 1710.
church of Christ Alabama, USA 1807.
for the Bible describes the body of Christ as being invisible, spiritual and mystical (i.e.

Lol
You have an amazing history to tell. Thank You!

Hassan simply took all this info and put his own spin on it. Not taking anything away from him but just saying. As a Christian apologist and gospel defender I appeal to the Word of God to inform my labeling of a group. The ultimate battle in our day is the battle for the gospel. And if we are walking as He walked and obeying his commandments, who are we to credit for abiding in Him and walking as He walked? Our own spirit or the Holy Spirit?
“By this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us” (1 John 3:24).
You forgot the Catholic Church - that should have been the top one.

You forgot the ' divine' Serpent cult based in Rome. Now that's a cult. Biggest of all.

From I.C.O.C. to Catholicism; OUT OF THE FRYING PAN INTO THE FIRE.
@@barbwire7449 I think it's in James , you know, that warning about teachers being judged more severely...
Well, good luck!
I don’t see the point in putting time, effort, or money to attack others when one could be spreading the words of Jesus. you know “The Good News”

I will continue watching and then I will give a comment once I have finished it.
@@marciadiehl5733 Your honesty is refreshing. I totally agree about not reading material from those cooperating with unbiblical ministries. These are healthy boundaries.

May the Holy Spirit guide you into all truths.
@@tonyachi6433 Can you provide Scripture to prove Adam and Eve ever observed a 7th day sabbath?
I would include calvinism in these cults
You don’t refute Calvinism, Because you have a twisted view of GOD, the same way you have a twisted view of hell.
Thanks, I'll check it out. So many great apologetics channels...
I came across a young man from the Church of Christ. Maintaining his church is strictly based on the apostles' doctrine, he argued playing musical instruments is wrong since there's no record the apostles did it. He quoted a verse from the old testament to support it.
Peer reviewed research from the Berkeley group found only a 1 in a 15 trillion chance that Nephi and Alma were written by the same author.
The study was headed by John Hilton, a Mormon BYU professor.
It was a FARMS paper and was NOT peer reviewed.
Without lies Mormonism cannot survive.
So Rigdon and Cowdery.

If you have learned anything then you would know that jesus is a false name. (The preface of your bible before the Book of Genesis actually tells you that, but I guess you've never read that part.) The Creator and Messiah have us their Hebrew names! Do you not know it or are you ashamed of it?
YHWH Yahuah, I Am (Our Creator)
YaHusha, I am your deliverer. (Our Messiah)
I am also a member of the Church of Christ. I have not watched this video, but the fact he’d group the coc w those others is shameful. The coc usually gets a bad wrap because of its stance on water immersion and music-singing only. I’ve never heard it referred to as a cult. Our take on baptism lines up well with the New Testament. I’ve never understood why folks can’t see that.
@@regularguy3202 baptism "for" the remission of sins is in light of understanding the gospel that those who believe it are saved the moment they believe.
He who believes and is baptised shall be saved. He who does not believe is condemned. Not he who is not baptized. Why? because he has not believed. So baptism that saves is just Roman catholicism in disguise
Do a word study on "for" it does not effect salvation.
Peace.
Why didn’t you include the fifth cult? Rosicrucian.

The lost pointing the finger at the lost; pull the log out of your own eye first. Do you not know that Scripture says... hypocrites will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
