  • I was loaned a fine little Remington model 241 by my friend Dave who owns Tennessee Gun Country in Clarksville Tennessee. I always wanted to review this classic model, and share it with you. So sit back and lets try out the 241 Speedmaster!

This is starting to become the go-to spot for .22 videos. Thank you!

Whoa Tom. Having to adjust your hold at 50 yards, and still hitting targets. I’ve shot archery tournaments with you, shot some of your guns and watched you shoot both for years. You my friend are one of the best shots with bow and gun that I know. Keep up the videos bro really enjoy them all.

That's because I practice often, and take advice from friends like you. Thanks to your guidance I have actually achieved a new level of shooting with my recurve bow.

Another good one, Tom!!! I was just checking for more .22 videos and found yours 7 minutes after it was posted. I had a chance to pick up a 241 a few years back and regrettably let it evade me. I did own two 550’s, one was in almost new condition. They too would shoot S, L, and LR interchangeably and if I recall they had what was referred to as a “floating” chamber. I love the 552’s and have owned several of them over the years, two of which I gifted to new shooters. I too believe acts of kindness and generosity do find their way back to you.

I had the chance to get a Rem. 550-1 about a year ago, and so stupidly passed on it. I'll try not to do that again!

Your Twenty-Two Series are definitely my favorites among your excellent work. Another winner here with the Remington 241! I always lusted after these Browning patent models from the ads of my youth. I've owned a few Brownings since and have held onto a minty Japanese model in .22 Short, but was first introduced to the "hot brass up the sleeve club" via a friend's early thirties Model 24, which preceded the beefier 241. It was slim and looked a bit old fashioned (elegant?) with its small schnabel. Like you, we used standard vel ammo. Pre polymer, these machined steel beauties still do anything that a compact takedown can be reasonably called upon to perform. Thanks for another most excellent production! This subscriber would really like to see your views on the Winchester 63...

I own 5 of them. The gun of my youth. I have a very rare Peerless Grade 241 long rifle.

That’s a really nice old Remington 22 auto loader! Thanks to you and your friend for sharing with us. Remington used to make some really nice stuff. I recently restored a vintage model 141 pump rifle in 35 Rem. The quality of that rifle is amazing.

I'm from Argentina, I have a speedmaster that I bought in 1994 from an old man who worked in Patagonia in the 50's, he had it since that time. It is wonderful, it has incredible precision.

Love the old Remington's, will until the day I die. I have owned slightly less Remingtons than Rugers, but only due to my love for Ruger handguns. These old firearms are a treasure to shoot and look at, love them. Thanks for bringing me back...

Excellent! You enlightened me on another good gun. Thanks Appreciated info on 552. Will be watching for more on that 552. The one I have is a 1965 also. Would be nice to have a 241 John Browning was one of best designers ever I think.

I have one with the flip up rear Lyman peep sight and the front peep housing for interchangeable sights. It was made in 1935 and given to me by a dear friend, a WW2 pacific theater Marine Veteran, he was like a father to me. Great rifle in 98% condition. All it says on the receiver is 241 over the serial number 4148. The Remington stamp is on the barrel, the tag of SpeedMaster came in 1936.

Wow! That's a great story. I'm sure his memory is a special one. It's nice to have a tangible part of someone's generosity, and that little rifle is a symbol of your friendship. I can relate, because I too have a few guns from long lost friends.

Great video! My first gun was a Remington Speedmaster 241, made around 1947. It had been my Grandfather’s gun, then my Dad’s and now it’s sitting comfortably in my safe. Only gun I’ll never sell under any circumstance.

As for the manufacture the last year was 1947 . However you are right about 1951 as well as the parts manufactured prior were in abundance thus they were assembled and sold by Remington up to the year of 1951.

What a fine old gun. I'm surprised you haven't added that one to the collection. Personally, I would rather see the rifle firing than targets falling down. You could position the camera to see both. Just a thought.

The little gun a many secrets. One is the very little spring that actuates the internal shell stop. Most 241's that I have seen are lacking this little spring in place. It is a trick to put one in as one has to use dental pick tools to get the depressed spring into the cavity in the receiver. Another is to never use a screwdriver on the forward screw on the right side of the receiver just below the rifle barrel. That screw stays ridged in place and will not turn. It is kept in place by an internal pin that keeps the spring pressure in place onto the shell follower next to the breech. I have 5 of them and I know everything there is to know about them.

Mouse or some critter escaping at 6:46 :-)
I just picked up a 241 to compliment the 552 I already have. Thanks for the video. I was not sure how to take this one down for cleaning. Because the barrel does separate easily, I can probably use the 241 as a backpack survival rifle.

I have to say I really want one of those bottom ejection JMB designs in my collection. I have a Browning BPS and it’s as smooooooth as silk. Leave’s a nice pile of hulls at your feet for easy gathering to reload.

The 241 is my favorite of the Remington semi autos. A good one is very accurate.

It appears that the improvement was in the takedown interrupted thread. Browning is two flats and 90* turn, and the Remington has three flats with about 60* turn.

Those imo the best auto loader ever made. I like the 552 a smidgen better. It can't be beat.
I do like rugers 10-22 i have a few but I don't care for the rotary magazine.

I am thinking that the reason these old 22 are not made anymore is because production cost would be so high because they were made with the finest materials and machining. I think they would be so expensive to make now days. So sad.

Question for anyone who knows. I have a 241 and when the brass ejects the front of the brass gets all bent and I think that’s leading to feeding issues and jams. Any ideas?

Question how old are you. I'm 68 and I'm constantly being bitched at if I want to venture out hunting. But you know. Seems like some of the younger folks. (SONS) always have something better to do then go with the old man.

Remington died when the company went under.
Remarms does not warranty Remingtons made before the chapter 11 and in accordance with their website they do not warranty newly made firearms. "RemArms LLC has elected not to provide any written-warranty, either "limited" or "full", rather than to attempt to comply with the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Act and the regulations issued thereunder. As long as the Firearm isn't damaged by the owner and it's malfunctioning they will probably fix it free.
