- An islet getaway.
Several decades after the events of MIDST and Moonward, a supernatural ship and a remarkable crew set forth on an expedition to explore the highest heights, deepest depths, and furthest reaches of the known cosmos. But their journey is fraught with peril as they discover truths and realities far stranger than any of them could ever have imagined.

Artifice is so fucking funny, I don't know if that was done intentionally but the utter disregard for social norms and ham-mock was such a perfect combo
How on earth did they manage to make a calm camping episode more eerie than the horrible life threatening events of the previous one?
What a masterliece!
I don’t know why “I am the biological man” tripped me up so much but it did. The little guy is growing up!
I think Artifice might be trying to tell Cleo that the realization makes you a new person or even makes you forget your old life - and Dot is definitely not supposed to feel fear by now
My thinking is.. Artifice isn't aware that Dot can't calm their mind by some time at this point, even before getting close to Cleo.
"Realization" will probably occur whether or not Dot can eliminate their emotions. If they can't, the Fold will most likely react to them in a way that, in the past, has destroyed or changed other Mothers-In-Training
@@VagueHandWaving I almost read this as Artifice, but it wasn't all caps, so it didn't quite work
@@Zanther11987REALIZATION WILL COME REGARDLESS OF THE GRANDDAUGHTER'S EMOTIONAL STATE.
THE FOLD WILL REACT TO THE PRESENCE OF ANY EMOTIONS CONSUMING THEM AND WILL SUBSEQUENTLY CONSUME THEM ITSELF.
YOUR SELFISH ASS NEEDS TO BACK OFF.
@@VagueHandWaving Red Sonja - that's my guess
the end gave me the greatest desire to revive an old meme.
Cleo be like "I came out to have a good time and am feeling so attacked right now"
The way everything is building up to The Realization but Artiface refuses to elaborate on what it actually is and what it means is terrifying.
I love snippets of The Biological Man experiencing things for the first time. Grilled bread, using a tongue, self awareness..
[Strange croaking, bird calls, a symphony of nature] Shout-out to those doing the subtitles, because they absolutely never miss.
Good news everyone! They made it out of the depths of the Fold!
Bad news - whatever the hell has happened to the Bocular Man and Merlin. And Everett is VERY angry at Dot for uncertain reasons. And poor Cleo is being told not to interact with her crush.
So... It's really sounding like when Realization comes, it'll change "the Grand Daughter" into someone else entirely, or it will consume them. And Artifice worries that the emotion Dot is displaying (not a coincidence this topic of conversation came up when Cleo mentioned that Dot was scared, I think) will lead to the latter end.
"Only sometimes" is a _wild_ response to "are you delivered to your campsite via litter?"
I was not expecting firelight to be fold safe.
Same. It might be because it's a natural source of light
In the comics they mention how fold safe lights move & flicker in a way that keeps the Fold calm. I imagine firelight to have a similar effect
Alright tinfoil hat on: bear with me, I'm sorting through some stuff and would sole some opinions...
We know the mother to be able to communicate with the fold. That might be how they combat tearors by telling the fold to stop and retreat or explicitly manipulating the fold, which manifests itself in the opalessece left behind. That might be what the terror does instead of the random effect. My other theory is that they remove the fold from the affected areas and the scars are the absence of fold. We saw that at least the residents of midst carry fold inside of them and turned pale when it was removed. Either way, the mothers communicate with the fold in some way. I think what we saw with Merlin was some of that communication in action. Merlin was trying to understand but not actively. He was calm and entered the fold with an intention of exploration and observation. In my mind it is like observing your breath. If you focus too much on it, it changes and you become unable to just perceive without manipulating. He was able to connect with the fold. I interpret his desperate reaching not as a reaction to emotion but rather instinct of self preservation. That all means, you need am empty mind to communicate with fold.
Dot still has emotions, we know that for a fact. Which means they can not calm their mind and presence with the fold. Of they try to communicate with he fold, it will consume them. Because the fold reacts to change and chaos, amplifying it. There is matter, intent and connection. As Merlin had those realisations the fold started to react to them so we know, the fold reacts to change.
I think, if realisation happens to Dot, they will be empty of emotions, which will affect their relationships. Also becoming a Mother might come with responsibilities that shut them off from the outside world. But if Dot does not manage to become a Mother, they will be taken by the fold. Either way, Cleo will never see them again, except under specific circumstances.
The question is. What did he mean by even if she fails you wont see her again.
consumed by the fold I think
What do you meeeeaaaaaaannnnn thanks for listening???? I want all of it nowwwwww 😂😂😂😂
L + no perfect hammock tension + you should stop talking to the Granddaughter
I still flinch everytime they mention doctor Ripley. I'm not sure who came up with a doctor Ripley first, but it sure is confusing😅
Lol. Omg thats so true! I didnt even clock the CR connection. In my mind, i went Ripley from Alien and thought.. ok.. the badass female that lives thru the space horror.. got it. 😅
Unexpectedly intense episode 😮 Looking forward to the next one~
Now I have even MORE questions.
felt like last week's episode was yesterday
edit: whoa, Artifice. also, what do you *mean* by "not seeing Dot again"?!
"I am the biological man" merch?
Wait why did Everett freak out at Dot? Did I miss something?
No , you didnt. Everett has been avoidant of the granddaughter from the start... but we dont know why. That whhhhy haunts me... 😅
She's been uncomfortable around the granddaughter before, but there's something we're definitely missing as of yet.
Maybe Everett was in Cleo' position in the past, and was pushed aside upon realization
It's been hinted for a while that Everett might have some sort of pre-existing beef with Dot, but hell if I know what it is. It's hard to imagine what they could've done to get such a strong reaction out of her. 😨
It's not that she has an issue with Mothers in general because she's clearly comfortable around Artifice. Or - conversely - out of all the Mothers it's just Artifice who get's a pass with her for some reason.
OMG everett what the hell??
AAAAAH! I want more! What is going to happen to Dot? She's not ready!
Damn, Artifice!!!
Great! Thank you!
Well that was intanse but atleast they werent attacked for once by something. Also Im really worry about what exactly did Artifice meant when he said that "they will never see each other again" and what exactly would happen to Dot if she will fail.
ALSO. “You should know that as a”
Why would she know that! What does “2 I owe you mean?”
It was established an episode or two ago that Artifice saved Everett in the past on Midst.
@@timgray5373 OH RIGHT. Thank you!
I love Artifice, I really do, but someone has _gotta_ teach that mf some tact
I wonder why theyve been avoiding giving the naturalist a first name...
I kind of figured that realistion was like the death of personality form Babylon 5
But why is failure mean that cleo will never see dot again?
Is that metaphorical because dots entire life has being the mother's that life with out them will mean that she becomes a whole diffrent person
I’m still not happy that them roots got teef
Maybe I missed something but, why is Everett angry at The Granddaughter?
I would also appreciate some elucidation
We don't know yet, seems like it's something that would be revealed
First! Because this is the GOAT.
