    Gotta love the auto lens I recommend that over a fixed shade

    I used to use the Huntsman paper type hoods. They had almost indestructible head gear too. Just don't get them soaking wet. That was before the more modern type hoods.

    Even though i have several auto darkening welding helmets, like you mentioned some are better depending on the job.
    But i still keep an old school fixed lense helmet around just incase something happens to another helmet on a job. I can still keep going.

    I wear a speed glass with a leather on the back for working outside. Super heavy. But super strong super fast and consistent. And when I was building fuel tankers you needed that extra bit of hood with how hot we welded.

      I’m in trade school for welding and my instructor advises against auto hoods any reason he’d be doing that?

    • @garybrown9719
      @garybrown9719 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Migman-d3m is he old fashion
      There is a lot of advantages to auto dark hoods
      Maybe he is looking out for you not going into debt
      The biggest advantage to auto dark hood is tacking

    My Hobart looks a lot like that arc captain but the controls are on the inside. I have to take it off every time I make an adjustment. That looks a lot more convenient. I leave it on the grind setting to save the battery and nothing pisses you off like realizing you forgot to reset it after you get all set up and ready to go.

    In the uk I used the big helmets at first then on my travels to Europe I picked up a " baby shell," it's like the cut one you have I had a piece of leather stuck on the front hanging down to stop your neck burning, I also used "monkey screens" which were like your pancake but leather, I then ended up working in a shop with those speedglass3m backpacks as was then the rules. Preferred the flip front baby shell out of all of them

    The dark lenses we had years ago was why I never did welding.
    I'm visually impaired to begin with so putting the hood on made me uneasy.

    Question. I realize for welding machines that are 120/220 capable they are more for smaller jobs. What are your thoughts on this? I do not have 220 in my garage. From your experience, what are your thoughts. Thank you Brother. Peace 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    • @TaylorWelding
      @TaylorWelding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not weld or cut anything with a 120 . Just doesn’t have enough power.

    When rolling out and you are filling and capping with 7018 does it matter which way you roll the pipe since the wps usually is running that rod uphill?

    • @TaylorWelding
      @TaylorWelding  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve seen it done both ways. I always rolled it away from me.

    Thanks buddy appreciate you!
    Do companies require a diesel truck or welder for majority of pipeline or natural gas welding jobs?
    Best place to look for used trucks/welding machines in your opinion to get started?
    What welding tests are most common in this line of work in your opinion?
    If someone is trying to get into the field and hasn't been on a ROW or natural gas job but is proficient at welding and basic fitting what do you reccomend doing first, starting as a helper atleast for a job or two or show up pass the test and weld even though you might appear green?

    Hey boss I have a question. I have a sugar scoop like that but I lost the parts that hold the lens and clears in. As this ever happened to you and where can I find these parts to replace them. I contacted fibremetal and they said they don’t offer replacement parts.

    The arc captain has a bad flaw.
    The lens does not have a seal around them to the helmet and if the wind blows hard and it’s dusty the dust goes right in between, it’s not good.
    If it’s damp and humid, moisture gets in between the lens. Other than that it has good features and is real comfortable.
    I guess you get what you pay for.

      I pulled the stiff leather off the bottom of my Outlaw Leather Fibermetal Tigerhood Flipllens.....
      and replaced with thinner leather that flexes and is much lighter.....the thick leather had developed a shape
      that would not come out...
