I was struck at the almost "misterioso" development of the ideas up to the conslusion of that movement -- what seems to start as something almost "playful" becomes dark and somber at the end....what a genius Beethoven was...
Ok seriously I first heard this on WQED channel 13 in Pittsburgh PA. A blind pianist performed these sonatas every week. I still have the tape I made. I even learned another sonata op 14 number 2. I played the first movement at my last recital before I moved to Florida. 73
Thank you for playing this on your piano and sharing it on TH-cam for us all to hear. The generosity and talent are a gift to humanity and whatever animals are lucky enough to partake.
God damn that last half page is kicking my ass. Managed to get through the whole piece only for that monstrously difficult coda at 23:25 to show up at the very end 😂😭
Haha yeah, there is a famous saying about that last page. The whole piece isn’t that hard at all, even an amateur could learn to play it. Except for the final bars. It’s almost like Beethoven pranked the amateurs with that ‘surprise’ at the end!
I had never heard either this or the Gould. I just checked out Gould, and I do love it. His humming always makes it feel like you're standing next to him at the piano.
@@FrankyyBalboano, probably not. He wasn't a composer who understood much, his knowledge was vast however. Later composers like chopin, scriabin, and wölfl definitely understood this piece if they heard it.
Love this sonata - a lot of it is not too difficult (in terms of just playing the notes) and it's full of character. While Moravec's technique is impressive, I find some of his tempi too fast - especially the Trio and the Rondo. That last section was a blur (it's marked quasi Presto. not Prestissimo).
i actually kind of like this tempo. It creates a dancelike quality without being too melodramatic. I think Moravec’s sensitivity is on 10 here. Totally understand your opinion though, the piece is chock full of interesting harmonies/textures :)
What's the difference between virtuoso sheet music robots and REAL musicians who can pjay anything by ear and ad-lib? Mind you, there are sheet music virtuosos who can play anything by ear AND ad-lib too, which makes them to be REAL musicians.
second movement is one of the greatest musical works ever been written

Ok
Exaggerated
I call that the clock movement. It keeps perfect time. 73

2nd mov in D minor is absolutely awesome
Everyone seems to single out the 2nd mvt (myself included), and rightly so!
True! It's amazingly beautiful.

Amazing! His playing is so calming and ethereal, but the reverb is lovely too :D
What beguiling beauty in every note❤ I so wish I were a pianist 🙏😊 I am gladly investing in my grand daughter’s piano lessons🎹🎼

yep, I never could nail that one down. The rest of the sonata was manageable, you're not alone in that struggle!

Play it slower, hands separately until you get it
It doesn’t have to be THIS fast. Not that there's anything wrong with playing it this fast, just don't let it deter you.
Live it. Marovec is great 👍
Molto bravo!!
Sí. Lo indescifrable es lo que hace de esa magia lo sublime en Beethoven
Beautiful rendering!
This is one of the few Beethoven sonatas where I find Gould's rendition to be exceptionally fine. First movement especially.
Sono totalmente d'accordo!

The humanity will never understand the magic of this piano sonata.
Except you of course
@@renep9968 neither me
So Beethoven didn't understant this magic too?

I have planed to study it for several years but the end of the finale looks very difficult.
23:25 The coda? That's not especially difficult, with good fingering. You should give this sonata a try, that's a great one.
This sonata pings your brain very much. Sleepy fly it won't play.
a little bit fast but still a compelling performance I’d say
12:14 So his 32nd Piano Sonata wasn't the only one with jazzy tunes...
End of 7th also
not even close
he forgot the ma non troppo part
va muy rapido en el rondo, es alegro ma non tropo, no presto
yo lleve esta en 8º; muy dificil para ese grado. Me suspendieron
no me gusta tocarla tan rapido
1st mov need nor be so fast really. Listen to barenboim leasure speed
This is one of my favorites but I cant listen to this recording, it is played way too quickly, cant enjoy the nuance and harmony.

Well,Moravec plays it slower later. Check the live version ! Fantastic

Tempo too far. It blurs inner voices and the pulse.
