  • Sorry it's upside down at first. I promise it gets better lol. Hey guys, I did this periscope trying to explain how you can get any color in fondant. It's a long video with a ton of information but by the end you should be able to understand how color works and stop asking me how you make "blue" fondant hehe

    I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this in depth tutorial. THANK YOU for taking time to REALLY explain about how to create these different shades of colors and understanding the color wheel. No one explains it the way that you do. This is great. Thank you again so much. You are a rock star!

    I've delved into color theory many times in painting and I think I can help with a few weird colors that most people may be having trouble with creating.
    Note: when adapting paint colors for fondant, the first listed color of the base is the color of fondant you should use to start the base of your color.
    True Lilac: Base: a bit of white, a tiny bit of purple, and the tiniest bit of pink. To electrify the color or make it brighter, you can add more purple.
    True Lavender: a bit of white, a tiny bit of light blue, the tiniest bit of true blue, and some purple.
    *Please don't confuse Lavender for Lilac and vice-versa. They are two colors that get confused on a daily basis by nearly everyone at some point. Remember that Lilac is a light pinky-purple, and Lavender is a light bluey-purple.
    Neon Orange Coral (what most clothing designers call bright coral): a bit of white, orange, a bit of electric pink, and a the tiniest bit of yellow. If you want to tone it down a bit, add a tiny bit of ivory.
    Military (drab) Green: a bit of white, some green, tiny bit of red, a tiny bit of yellow, and a tiniest bit of black.
    Hope that helps some of your viewers!

    As a hairstylist I know and understand how important color theory is, and I thank you for putting this video out! I made the mistake of adding my purple to just white instead of laying down the pink first, and then it came out that wonky purple and 2 days later it was blue lol So this video was so helpful to me!

    This video was so helpful, I always understood color theory, so why I didn't think to apply it to coloring my fondant is beyond me...lol thank you so much! I love your videos and tutorials. I just started working with fondant about 6 months ago, as I was always a bc decorator, but with your help I've learned to love and appreciate the wonders of fondant, after I become great at fondant I hope to move on to modeling chocolate.

    Thanks so much for breaking down colour theory Liz, great video sadly can't get periscope to work on my andriod :( You stress the importance of building up your undertones properly in order to get true colours, do you find this is best achieved with the colours in the"electrics" range? apologies if you answered this in the scope.

    • @Artisancakecompany
      @Artisancakecompany  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jimmy Lee I use electrics as the "building" colors. You wouldn't build up electric pink but you would build up fuschia. Hope that makes sense
