Toxic co-workers are the worst, without knowing it will cost the company hours of work. I work at a shitty warehouse for extra cash and a lot of people just talk and talk, not working, poor boss is losing so much money over it, i think 40% a day. Plus the talkers ALWAYS complain, while iam glad i have extra job during pandemic.. some ppl are just never happy, like CLEOPATRA the prinses and consorts.
I work in reverse. I make the most money when I'm angry. It takes me out of coward mode and into make money mode. I don't recommend it for beginners. Aggression is a force multiplier, and if you're better at losing, then it'll multiply that, too.
My favorite part of this whole series was the last 10 minutes when all the clowns were gone and there was no more unnecessary drama. Just 3 aspiring traders doing their job.
If a trader who has made millions and retired at an early age tells you that you need to be a certain way in the office and to your broker, you do "IT". He's very successful for a reason, he knows what works, and what doesn't work. Sometimes you have to just listen and take in and apply what they are trying to tell you and apply it. Yes we understand they are people but we are here to make"Money" and provide for our families and we must do what we have to do to succeed. Great video and wish there was more!!! Cheers
DJ Smith: Re various documentaries, etc. almost all the schools to teach people how to be traders are just a SCAM though. If they're such great traders (the people providing the EXPENSIVE courses), why don't they just TRADE, and become wildly rich? I've seen documentaries on this where idiots were teaching such "courses" for $thousands a week and yelling at people about "supply and demand". The people taking the courses would have been better off reading some books and doing some paper trading, and deciding if they wanted to try trading for themselves. At least this guy was putting up money instead of charging big bucks, so he was being honest about it. If you were paying attention, you saw that MUCH of it is personality. NO WAY could I do what he was demanding successfully, re hurry up and make big profits, and I've been trading options for 40 years now. (The only credit I can give myself is at least I now KNOW that about myself).
Man this guy risked his own money to train them(bless your heart). And those whimps lost like 12.000 and they are talking shit about how the behaviour in the office is? Dude if this was a drug dealer you 'd be dead! Imagine losing YOUR 12k because you trusted some rookies. This show is lovely. This needs to be a series.

Exactly my thoughts, this documentary actually made me realise how poor people often remain poor ... if they want to make money while being morally right, they should have just gone for priesthood !! but they want to be big city boys, yet don't want to cut heads off...smh!
You cant bring that amount of emotion to a trading desk expecting to get results in the long run, the 3 persons that made it stayed calm and worked through it! Great show.

It's so interesting how differently people react to pressure. Obviously no one is being treated badly. It's just a competitive environment, and that's not for everyone.
Can't believe these guys walked out of such a great opportunity. I get there is pressure but given the investment risk Lex has taken, they should appreciate the opportunity a lot more than they have shown. Talking about human rights. This is such a good show because it shows the mental side to investing/trading. It's a pity that far too often textbooks focus on the quantitative side of money making and ignore the psychological aspects that are also part of it.

adrianzahid1: I think that's true of many things in life, re the psychology being key, but most resoruces / people largely ignoring that. For example, a big part of being a strong chess player (over the board) is psychological, as well as pure chess knowledge. My main improvement phase in chess was about maturing during high school and college, NOT about studying this or that set of books, for example.
@Rifle Eyez Psychology is MORE important than anything else. There are so many systems out there to make money. Pick any, as long as you can master your psychology you will be profitable.
I watched this series in one sitting a year ago. This week, I watched it again. Really captivating. Probably the best reality TV series I've come across. Trading psychology is so important in trading.

@@lexvandamofficial I went down the you tube rabbit hole after watching a video about long and short trading. It led me to the ever so interesting Anton and then on to here. I work in a totally different gig, but much of the advice you and Anton give is on point for many lines of work, the foremost of which is the idea of personal responsibility ie dealing with your own shite, rather than looking for back up constantly.

I am a professional quant trader of 5 years. I can say, I've been there. Through all these emotions/scenarios; what this series shows is: how integral the control of ones emotions and true grit are in the making a good trader. Throughly enjoyed this actuarial portrayal.
That moment when they finally found an excuse to get out of the situation they don't really want to be in. This is one of the best things I've watched recently. I hope to see more just to know what it's like for more and other people. Trading that way is probably not for me too but it's absolutely fascinating to watch.
Wow. I really learned from Cleo how important it is to be able to manage your emotions and to have self-control. Despite her being intelligent, lack of self-control and ability to manage her emotions, ruined so big opportunity.
Really appreciate the insight. I have learned: - No to emotion. No to fear. No to greed. Yes to analysis. Yes to belief in self. Yes to entry/exit strategies for long and short = hedging. Most of all the RISK factor. Respect from New Zealand.
Christine Willis: But for 99.9% of humans, when you're trading your OWN capital at your OWN risk, it's FAR easier to SAY that than do it. Which is why for almost everyone, it's BETTER to work a job and be a long term INVESTOR, and NOT a trader. One can be an investor and just put $X away a month and not try to time it or push it and the stock market grows nearly a nominal 10% a year over the long run, looking at the S&P 500 with dividends reinvested, for example. Most hedge funds underperform, even with the HUGE fees they charge. MANY blow up and return a small fraction to investors and give up or start over. When you have big market panics, good luck being completely unemotional if you're involved in regular trading vs. investing.
@@rogergeyer9851 You may be right. I only speak about myself and my journey. My first lesson - came from Sun Tzu. To know my self, My strengths, weaknesses, threats to an opportunity, etc. I always create a narrative around a stock to invest in. If there is an annual report or website - I check it out. The who, what, where, when etc. I have an idea of how much I want to lose and act accordingly. And always end with an exit strategy. During these journeys - I've learned much about the stockmarket infrastructure and it is not pretty. Payment to order flow, dark pools, high frequency trading, failure to deliver etc, the roles of SEC, and DTCC and NYSE and ICE and my conclusion: We, the retail investors are stepping into a rigged market. Using this knowledge has helped me make a modest income and much like the gambler - Know when to hold, know when to walk away. And patience. I don't consider myself being with the mob. I'm not drawn into the media hype. And most of all - I have the ability to smell bs. And right at the moment - the stench overwhelms.
I hope for any current or struggling traders currently watching this realize Lex and Anton probably received hundreds of resumes, sat through at least 50-100 interviews, and gave 8 people the chance to become a trader. After 2 months 5 ended up quitting or getting fired. Only 3 out of the hundreds made it to the end and only 1 made a profit of 1%. These traders had 2 of the best traders in the world helping and they still couldn't do it. I hope you realize the amount of time and dedication it takes to become a profitable trader in this game... Specially TIME!!!! I started 2 years ago first month couple of B stocks, second months options, third month 100x leverage shorting and forex. My trades all went well and then I simply stopped because I realized I don't really like trading - averaging into ETFs is much less work. I still do crypto on occasion and also love to buy bargain options 2/3rd into maturity my P&L for last year is nearly 12% up... the thing is when I trade right I lose the whole day. I stopped playing poker for the same reason it takes up all your life every waking minute of the day and days get longer and longer, you discover "over the counter trading" after the exchanges are closed, you start getting paranoid about having x amount of limit orders for all your assets before you go to sleep you wake up with your phone checking financial news, double checking positions thinking about fibonacci patterns, moving averages, how certain sectors sentiment infect/relate to other sectors. It's a very vicious cycle.

@@MostIntelligentMan Also when the market doesn't move you switch to OTCBB securities and use options for straddles and strangles between support and resistance lines, this will decrease risk exposure exponentially for highly leveraged options specially if you use the average directional index to predict and close before break outs.
Actually I've been struggling with handling myself emotionally in a stressful environment. I feel very lucky to have watched this show. It was immensely therapeutic. I wish I could find more like it.
Cleo was let go because she couldn't do the job. Even forget the that she couldn't make money, she couldn't do the basics of the Job which is controlling your emotions. There's no reason why anyone else should've felt like she was treated badly, because she wasn't. In ANY other job that person 1). Wouldn't have even been hired because she didn't have the skills and 2). She would've been fired after 1 week.
S K I agree. She wasn’t willing to use the money to invest. She didn’t take risks, was distracting the other people on the team and was overly emotional most of the time for no reason. Not everyone can thrive under pressure. It doesn’t make her a bad person but she just wasn’t cutting it!
Wrong, trading and other finance jobs are often about numerical results far more than other jobs. At your typical corporate job, she would've used her emotional manipulativeness to get promoted because employee evaluations in such positions are subjective. There are so many people like her that think they can game the system and get a rude awakening in quantitative fields. When they say "This isn't fair" what they're actually communicating is "I'm not used to having to meet an objective standard all the time".
@@mariancounsellor I think she was basically afraid of taking risks, like she was still the " little daddys girl who has to proof that she is worth it, perhaps that is the reason she cannot admit that trading is not her ballpark. I feel kind of sorry for her. She wants to please everybody what is extemly tiresome.

What a great show. Right off the bat I had a feeling that Simon and Cleo were going to be dragging the group behind and wondered why they were chosen in the first place. However, over the span of the 3 episodes, they were actually interesting (in a frustrating way) to watch so you can analyse their flaws so as a trader you do the opposite haha. Trading is definitely not for everyone but this show made me realise even more now that my head is in the right place and Im excited for my future with my current investments so thank you Lex.
This is my first-time watching this, iv learnt alot, it does not only teach about trading but business and life in general, those that quit acted imature by failing to acknowledge their mistakes, instead of appreciating lex for the risk he took, wish I had such great opportunity to be with a successful millionaire and have a feel of trading

99% of all of my biggest loses were due to poor mindset at that period not the market. The market often even gave me chances to recoup and stop shit hitting the fan. Love the show. Getting back to it from time to time

I started to learn forex during the lock down from total zero and then i found this series which totally gave me new prospect of the trading industry , i found it really you have to control your emotions when you lose money and and not to be greedy when you make profit ,successful people always look cruel to others just like lex van dam who got hated by every unsuccessful trader in the room just because he was telling the truth from non-emotional side.and as he said "moving out from your desk and run away is just sign of weakness"
Calmness evidences that the emotions are under control, and cannot interfere with strategic planning and trading executions. Calmness is vital to clear-headed trading. Essential!

Of Course not every body can manage to go out with Profitable Trades all theTime. But the best important part we shall learn was when Both of them handled the situations where when You Put a lot of money into your trading platform than You can tell either it`s suit you to make money or Not. Lastly, as for me I did tried few Times in Trading some win and some loose and we can`t really really make mistakes and when You do, you`re finished, you`re DONE. Had to gently go through the series after a continues lost in the market, enough lessons learnt, been calm at all moments is a great attribute I picked up.
From what I can tell by pausing the screen at 4:19, they just use moving averages of lengths 11, 50, and 100 combined with what sounds like fundamentals and market sentiment. But even if they showed us, what worked back then most likely wouldn't work today.
I really praised You Lex Van Dam and those get involved in this Video especially Portfolio Management Anton Kreil because for those who wanted to turn to be Professional Trader must learn from this video, not that easy to control emotionally when you on the trading floor....
As a trader, the psychology of every individual was very interesting and how it was brought to surface. This is what happens to everyone, you find out who you really are when it comes to trading. Great experiment Lex
I so love this series. Leadership- you can't please anyone. There's a challenge in correcting people. There's always a rotten tomato in the basket that you need to eliminate first because, surely it will affect other fresh tomato. Character basis of a single mom, a student and a retired military was really helpful in this industry, Attitude really matters no matter how good you are it is important to listen and respect people whos mentoring you.
Trading exposes you as a person! This world is complex so things that appear good aren't always good and Cleo is a good example of that! She won that victim sympathy that most women crave for and the below averaged crowd fell for her crocodile tears! Congratulations to the winners who saw the truth, persevered and succeeded!
It's not even tough....some people like to try and make it tough...but if you risk small amounts and go with the trend it's about as easy as you can get...
Two different situations...calm man left with still several weeks to go... for the others losing on their trades, thinking they still might have a credible chance and reversing their mistakes and coming out positive, in the end. On the other hand, a very emotional repeatedly crying woman brought out the base male protective instincts of the vulnerable emotional female and they perhaps allowed that more primitive part of their brain to compel them to try to help her in the best way they could and that is to show maximum support by walking out and quitting in solidarity with her at the same time she was leaving because she was fired. Additionally, there were only 2 weeks or less left, at that point, and her and all that that left with her were in the worst losing positions of the group and perhaps they decided this was a good time to leave, before getting fired for poor performance, with the exception of the guy(don't remember his name) that has the day job doing fight promotion and he was winning more than he was losing, but allowed his emotions to get the better of him and he imploded what might have turned into a successful trading career because he was emotionally unstable enough to allow an emotional, crying, failing woman, to compel him to make an irrational emotional decision, not in his best interests...he called it the final straw and if it hadn't been that, it would have been something else. I actually agree with him on talking nice to your broker, there is no call or need or legitimate reason to be unkind, when calling your broker to make a trade...Anton Kreil, is being unkind, cruel, and ruthless, without legitimate cause, despite his reasoning for acting that way; which I consider to be an argument without merit..the black guy student and the woman who is a mother of two were not treating their broker badly; they were neutral and even kind to the broker; when they called to make trades and those were the top two performers; based on positive returns, for the whole group. If the fight promoter guy could just dismiss Kreils bad advice about treating the broker badly and simply decided he was wrong about that and continued to treat his broker like a human and in what he considered a nice way and not let negative emotion over that or his emotion over a failing and very emotional female friend, get the better of his emotions; then he might not have allowed his emotions to implode what might have turned into a promising career for him, in trading. That decision, to allow negative emotion, to control what should have been made in the rational part of his brain, turned what was looking to be a possible successful future career in trading, into a failure instead. Too bad, at or near the end of the last episode, it showed him back at his day job as a fight promoter because he allowed negative emotions, rather that rational thought to make a very important life and career changing decision for him; that was not in his best interests, potential was wasted there, sad to see.
If Sam really wants to trade ethically, he can simply make a watchlist of all companies he approves of and then only take long positions. It's possible, it just limits his options. It's also pointless, because as soon as he exits his position, he is essentially shorting the company at that price. So unless he's planning on investing and just leaving that money in for years, he's neither helping nor hurting the company by trading.
Interesting social experiment and a useful insight into the psychological aspect of trading. Would have been nice to have had more on the mechanics of trading with regard to what informed the participants trading decisions.
Because of this show I invested a virtual 10k in 6 FTSE 100 companies, and two weeks later it was up 5%! Now, if it was my own money I might have bailed at the first dip lol. That's the difference I guess.
I’ve got a total value invested of around £23k in real money on FTSEE index and S&P500 over the past 4 years and you begin to get used to the swings…. I’m no longer bothered if it drops 1k over a week… you do get desensitised after a while

This is such a good show because it shows the mental side to investing/trading. It's a pity that far too often textbooks focus on the quantitative side of money making and ignore the psychological aspects that are also part of it.

adrianzahid1: I think that's true of many things in life, re the psychology being key, but most resoruces / people largely ignoring that. For example, a big part of being a strong chess player (over the board) is psychological, as well as pure chess knowledge. My main improvement phase in chess was about maturing during high school and college, NOT about studying this or that set of books, for example.
@Rifle Eyez Psychology is MORE important than anything else. There are so many systems out there to make money. Pick any, as long as you can master your psychology you will be profitable.

@@lexvandamofficial I went down the you tube rabbit hole after watching a video about long and short trading. It led me to the ever so interesting Anton and then on to here. I work in a totally different gig, but much of the advice you and Anton give is on point for many lines of work, the foremost of which is the idea of personal responsibility ie dealing with your own shite, rather than looking for back up constantly.

I am a professional quant trader of 5 years. I can say, I've been there. Through all these emotions/scenarios; what this series shows is: how integral the control of ones emotions and true grit are in the making a good trader. Throughly enjoyed this actuarial portrayal.
That moment when they finally found an excuse to get out of the situation they don't really want to be in. This is one of the best things I've watched recently. I hope to see more just to know what it's like for more and other people. Trading that way is probably not for me too but it's absolutely fascinating to watch.

Really appreciate the insight. I have learned: - No to emotion. No to fear. No to greed. Yes to analysis. Yes to belief in self. Yes to entry/exit strategies for long and short = hedging. Most of all the RISK factor. Respect from New Zealand.
Christine Willis: But for 99.9% of humans, when you're trading your OWN capital at your OWN risk, it's FAR easier to SAY that than do it. Which is why for almost everyone, it's BETTER to work a job and be a long term INVESTOR, and NOT a trader.
One can be an investor and just put $X away a month and not try to time it or push it and the stock market grows nearly a nominal 10% a year over the long run, looking at the S&P 500 with dividends reinvested, for example.
Most hedge funds underperform, even with the HUGE fees they charge. MANY blow up and return a small fraction to investors and give up or start over.
When you have big market panics, good luck being completely unemotional if you're involved in regular trading vs. investing.
@@rogergeyer9851 You may be right. I only speak about myself and my journey. My first lesson - came from Sun Tzu. To know my self, My strengths, weaknesses, threats to an opportunity, etc. I always create a narrative around a stock to invest in. If there is an annual report or website - I check it out. The who, what, where, when etc. I have an idea of how much I want to lose and act accordingly. And always end with an exit strategy. During these journeys - I've learned much about the stockmarket infrastructure and it is not pretty. Payment to order flow, dark pools, high frequency trading, failure to deliver etc, the roles of SEC, and DTCC and NYSE and ICE and my conclusion: We, the retail investors are stepping into a rigged market. Using this knowledge has helped me make a modest income and much like the gambler - Know when to hold, know when to walk away. And patience. I don't consider myself being with the mob. I'm not drawn into the media hype. And most of all - I have the ability to smell bs. And right at the moment - the stench overwhelms.

I hope for any current or struggling traders currently watching this realize Lex and Anton probably received hundreds of resumes, sat through at least 50-100 interviews, and gave 8 people the chance to become a trader. After 2 months 5 ended up quitting or getting fired. Only 3 out of the hundreds made it to the end and only 1 made a profit of 1%. These traders had 2 of the best traders in the world helping and they still couldn't do it. I hope you realize the amount of time and dedication it takes to become a profitable trader in this game... Specially TIME!!!! I started 2 years ago first month couple of B stocks, second months options, third month 100x leverage shorting and forex. My trades all went well and then I simply stopped because I realized I don't really like trading - averaging into ETFs is much less work. I still do crypto on occasion and also love to buy bargain options 2/3rd into maturity my P&L for last year is nearly 12% up... the thing is when I trade right I lose the whole day. I stopped playing poker for the same reason it takes up all your life every waking minute of the day and days get longer and longer, you discover "over the counter trading" after the exchanges are closed, you start getting paranoid about having x amount of limit orders for all your assets before you go to sleep you wake up with your phone checking financial news, double checking positions thinking about fibonacci patterns, moving averages, how certain sectors sentiment infect/relate to other sectors. It's a very vicious cycle.

@@MostIntelligentMan Also when the market doesn't move you switch to OTCBB securities and use options for straddles and strangles between support and resistance lines, this will decrease risk exposure exponentially for highly leveraged options specially if you use the average directional index to predict and close before break outs.

Actually I've been struggling with handling myself emotionally in a stressful environment. I feel very lucky to have watched this show. It was immensely therapeutic. I wish I could find more like it.
Cleo was let go because she couldn't do the job. Even forget the that she couldn't make money, she couldn't do the basics of the Job which is controlling your emotions. There's no reason why anyone else should've felt like she was treated badly, because she wasn't. In ANY other job that person 1). Wouldn't have even been hired because she didn't have the skills and 2). She would've been fired after 1 week.
S K I agree. She wasn’t willing to use the money to invest. She didn’t take risks, was distracting the other people on the team and was overly emotional most of the time for no reason. Not everyone can thrive under pressure. It doesn’t make her a bad person but she just wasn’t cutting it!
Wrong, trading and other finance jobs are often about numerical results far more than other jobs.
At your typical corporate job, she would've used her emotional manipulativeness to get promoted because employee evaluations in such positions are subjective.
There are so many people like her that think they can game the system and get a rude awakening in quantitative fields.
When they say "This isn't fair" what they're actually communicating is "I'm not used to having to meet an objective standard all the time".
and is perfectly fine not to have the skills to be a trader. it is a very special skillset.

What a great show. Right off the bat I had a feeling that Simon and Cleo were going to be dragging the group behind and wondered why they were chosen in the first place. However, over the span of the 3 episodes, they were actually interesting (in a frustrating way) to watch so you can analyse their flaws so as a trader you do the opposite haha. Trading is definitely not for everyone but this show made me realise even more now that my head is in the right place and Im excited for my future with my current investments so thank you Lex.

This is my first-time watching this, iv learnt alot, it does not only teach about trading but business and life in general, those that quit acted imature by failing to acknowledge their mistakes, instead of appreciating lex for the risk he took, wish I had such great opportunity to be with a successful millionaire and have a feel of trading

I started to learn forex during the lock down from total zero and then i found this series which totally gave me new prospect of the trading industry , i found it really you have to control your emotions when you lose money and and not to be greedy when you make profit ,successful people always look cruel to others just like lex van dam who got hated by every unsuccessful trader in the room just because he was telling the truth from non-emotional side.and as he said "moving out from your desk and run away is just sign of weakness"

Had to gently go through the series after a continues lost in the market, enough lessons learnt, been calm at all moments is a great attribute I picked up.
It would have been really cool if in this series they showed more of the training these guys got.

From what I can tell by pausing the screen at 4:19, they just use moving averages of lengths 11, 50, and 100 combined with what sounds like fundamentals and market sentiment.
But even if they showed us, what worked back then most likely wouldn't work today.

No one walked out when they fired Simon.
Two different situations...calm man left with still several weeks to go... for the others losing on their trades, thinking they still might have a credible chance and reversing their mistakes and coming out positive, in the end. On the other hand, a very emotional repeatedly crying woman brought out the base male protective instincts of the vulnerable emotional female and they perhaps allowed that more primitive part of their brain to compel them to try to help her in the best way they could and that is to show maximum support by walking out and quitting in solidarity with her at the same time she was leaving because she was fired. Additionally, there were only 2 weeks or less left, at that point, and her and all that that left with her were in the worst losing positions of the group and perhaps they decided this was a good time to leave, before getting fired for poor performance, with the exception of the guy(don't remember his name) that has the day job doing fight promotion and he was winning more than he was losing, but allowed his emotions to get the better of him and he imploded what might have turned into a successful trading career because he was emotionally unstable enough to allow an emotional, crying, failing woman, to compel him to make an irrational emotional decision, not in his best interests...he called it the final straw and if it hadn't been that, it would have been something else. I actually agree with him on talking nice to your broker, there is no call or need or legitimate reason to be unkind, when calling your broker to make a trade...Anton Kreil, is being unkind, cruel, and ruthless, without legitimate cause, despite his reasoning for acting that way; which I consider to be an argument without merit..the black guy student and the woman who is a mother of two were not treating their broker badly; they were neutral and even kind to the broker; when they called to make trades and those were the top two performers; based on positive returns, for the whole group. If the fight promoter guy could just dismiss Kreils bad advice about treating the broker badly and simply decided he was wrong about that and continued to treat his broker like a human and in what he considered a nice way and not let negative emotion over that or his emotion over a failing and very emotional female friend, get the better of his emotions; then he might not have allowed his emotions to implode what might have turned into a promising career for him, in trading. That decision, to allow negative emotion, to control what should have been made in the rational part of his brain, turned what was looking to be a possible successful future career in trading, into a failure instead. Too bad, at or near the end of the last episode, it showed him back at his day job as a fight promoter because he allowed negative emotions, rather that rational thought to make a very important life and career changing decision for him; that was not in his best interests, potential was wasted there, sad to see.

If Sam really wants to trade ethically, he can simply make a watchlist of all companies he approves of and then only take long positions. It's possible, it just limits his options.
It's also pointless, because as soon as he exits his position, he is essentially shorting the company at that price. So unless he's planning on investing and just leaving that money in for years, he's neither helping nor hurting the company by trading.
Interesting social experiment and a useful insight into the psychological aspect of trading. Would have been nice to have had more on the mechanics of trading with regard to what informed the participants trading decisions.
Because of this show I invested a virtual 10k in 6 FTSE 100 companies, and two weeks later it was up 5%! Now, if it was my own money I might have bailed at the first dip lol. That's the difference I guess.

I’ve got a total value invested of around £23k in real money on FTSEE index and S&P500 over the past 4 years and you begin to get used to the swings…. I’m no longer bothered if it drops 1k over a week… you do get desensitised after a while
