    Thats a good looking old durango! Nice video to thanks for sharing! I picked up a 98 durango myself a few months ago and saved it from the scrap heap as well. Payed $350 for it and got a clean title. It had been wrecked and i had to throw a radiator and some freeze plugs in it. Fired up and runs pretty good for sitting 5+ years in the woods. 250k on the 318 V8 but still turns pretty well. I did torsion keys and shackles and found some SxS tires 32x10x15 for the stock wheels. Mega Motos kind of look like cryptides. Haven't been stuck yet! Next I am replacing the worn out front end parts, new cv axels, extra trans cooler and a locker for the rear. Then it will be next level!

      Thanks man I really appreciate it. If you look around you can get these babies for a good deal and it doesn’t take much to get em fixed up nice. Because of the issues with the new cars right now you can flip these for a pretty penny if you want to. Good luck with your rig, sounds like you got a good deal and will be pretty sweet when done.

    Ive been a long time fan of the1st gen Durango Platform. 99s are great, most options for aftermarket support. Im getting ready to regear to 4.56s and lunchbox lockers front and rear. At least thats the plan. Not a lot of info on that Dana35 front...if the carrier is 1.5" I should be good to go. I'll give a sub. Be interesting to see what direction you take your 99.

      I put a power trax no slip in my 98. It Performed great, pretty unstoppable. There are no instructions for instal on a D35 IFS. The cross pin has to be drilled for a tension pin retainer (dont use the factory spider gear cross pin not as strong) also do not re install the e clips that hold the axle shafts in. I did then realised they cannot be removed (again no instructions) do this will render the diff unservicable.

    Picked up 2002 for $4000. and spent $4000 on rust repair. Dodge 5.9 L with headers and low KM 160,000 . Full time AWD. I am considering adding functional hood scoop for water crossing. Not a snorkel. Plan to add heavy bumper and winch. Also after market back up camera. Good for winter in Canada. Would consider adding HHO fuel to intake for low emissions burn and reduced gas

    I hope you're still answering questions! I have a 99 SLT+ with a 5,9. Mine has 31 x 10.5 x 15 Cooper tires. I'd love to go to 33x12.5 tires. Did you have to install a lift kit to get enough clearance with no tires rubbing? Would they rub if off road on a trail or beach sand (Surf Casting this summer). Thanks for any guidance you can offer! Yours looks great. I have rust around the rear wells. NY salted roads when it snows.

    • @toocoolforschool3221
      @toocoolforschool3221  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I put new torsion keys in but you can lift it up some even if it’s stock. If you go under the truck follow the torsion bar to just about the middle of the truck and you will see a bolt. If you turn the bolt it will raise or lower the front end depending on which direction you turn them. There are two, one for the right side and one for the left side of the front wheels. Make sure you keep track of how many turns you do so you can have the same on both sides and you will probably need an alignment afterwards. Let me know if this helps.

    These durangos are solid! I have a 2003 184k plus miles and I love it. I'd like to find a good mechanic to go over it, repair a couple of leaks and update it overall. it could use a new paint job and nice tires. I drive it most of the time. Mechanics around here are not much help, that's why I do a lot of my maintenance. They look at mileage and say, just drive until it dies! That's not what I want to hear! thanks for the video!

      Nice pick up!!!! My 98 Dodge Ram has that motor and has 213,000 miles and is doing well. It’s tired though, I just moved recently and towing my trailer really wore her out. I have never towed with my Durango though but I have seen people say they towed with the Durango with no issues. I’m sure yours will do well all depending on what you plan on towing. I probably wouldn’t tow a car but a small boat or trailer should be fine.

      Use VIN code to check factory recommendations for engine and suspension capacity. If you pull heavy loads, take it slow to reduce stress on the power train. Trans temperature ,oil and engine cooling becomes critical with heavy use. Also have high grade synthetic oil for winter use. .

      Actually pretty good. I haven’t got stuck yet but it is a little stiff. But over time it is softening up.

      That’s the exact kit I bought. It was a lot less when I bought it a couple years ago but everything is up now. The rims are old and I can’t find them anywhere. I’m trying to find 1 for a spare but haven’t had any luck.

      I custom pieced my lift together on my durango was able to get almost 7 inches. If I did SD trucks rear spring and A -Arm drop due to torsion bar setup I could push it to probably 10.5 or 10.
      I have 33s on my durango I could easily fit 35s if I really want to push it maybe 37s. But regear would be absolutely neccessary.

      I got it off Amazon. I can’t remember exactly which one it was but this one looks pretty similar. 7BLACKSMITHS Black Roof Rack Cargo Basket Carrier Rack with 64" x 39" x 6'' Universal Extension Car Top Luggage Holder SUV Truck Cars a.co/d/0BLG3PS

      Definitely 84” would be too long
