You are officially my DIY hero LOL. I would never have thought to use the multi-tool. I've been procrastinating over this job for 2 years, dreading the thought of scraping the old grout. Thank you.
Now if you wouldn't mind coming to mine next. I have tiled many places over the years and I have always struggled with the grouting. now I know why. Thank you for sharing.
Good video mate, but next time emphasis on not getting the blade to far into the back of the grout so you dont risk damaging any waterproofing would be another useful tip. Make sure to check out the thickness of the tile first and make sure you dont go beyond this. While the new grout might stop water getting to damaged WP, it could easily turn disastrous overtime and you won't know till floors, wall, start to exhibit water damage. Not against regrouting at all, just understand the substrate behind your tile and take necessary precautions
I'm removing last year's bad grout job the building management did in an apartment I'm renting. Giving my hands a break (I've got CTS), I came across your video. I'm so old school, I was doing it by hand with a razor blade--never thought about using a multi-tool. Glad I found this video. The job will go much quicker now. Thanks!
Good video, in addition cover the floor with a suitable cloth to minimise clean-up, once grout is applied wait at least 10-15 minutes for initial set, then clean off excess grout in a diagonal motion with well wrung sponge and rinse often in your bucket of water, when dry polish off haze...
Looks great! Once the grout has dried i also use a grout sealer to waterproof wet areas like showers, reason being the grout remains porous. In newer homes where the shower has been sealed correctly before tiling you can get away with not using it but i find homes 20 years plus in age the job does not last well without sealing the grout.
Now I am really convinced YT is reading my thoughts. I need to remove grouts from some floortiles and have been thinking of how to do it. Just thinking.....have not googled anything yet. And this vid pops up in my feed😁Good vid btw as I have a multitool with a new set.
I have some grout on the floor tiles I laid. So wish I went with dark grey and not beige. I tried dye but didn't work as it removed most of it trying to clean it. Definitely going to do this job as have both floor and wall tiles to redo. So thankful for this. Now to buy a multi tool
Hi, thanks for the great video. I see that you recommend not cutting too deep if the old grout is still good. That means the new layer of grout is a bit thin. Is there a recommended minimum depth for the new grout layer to be strong enough? Cheers!
Great video and method to clean the grout lines. I learned something new about using the multi-tool. Question: any types of grout or tile in which you would NOT use the multi-tool due to its aggressive abrasion which might damage the work? Thanks.
Going to plan to do it this weekend for the first time..... do you also apply a grout sealer once finished say 24 hours after you've applied the grout?
Thanks for a useful video. Was going to use an stone cutting disc on a small angle grinder but Im now on the lookout for a multi tool. Applying grout was also useful
Adds two more seconds to remove all the old grout just as you demoed so the new grout will have a more complete bond that’s less prone to cracks and thus mold. Go the extra minor effort for a more durable finish.
Nice one, just been asked to do this very job, not one I have done before, but I have more and more people wanting to use my do-it-yourself skills. So ta muchly.
Perfect timing and answered a very pertinent question for me. Very novice. First tile job in shower. Panicked when haze wouldn’t come off. Thought I’d scratched tiles. Used 50/50 vinegar water and massively pleased to clean the haze. Perhaps over exuberant cleaning started to pit new grout (post 48hr dry) Made decision to remove and redo. Using manual method as I don’t own multi tool and grinder makes me too nervous for damage. Question was do I need to remove ALL grout. Some areas I’m satisfied with. This video clearly suggests not. Also some areas that have ground down literally popped into a crevasse suggesting my initial fill coverage was unsatisfactory.
I gotta remove a bit of grout in my shower as it has gotten moldy. I'm not going to even try deep cleaning it. Rather, just remove it all. Thanks for the video
Never would have thought of using one of these tools, almost set to work using a hand tool then I saw this video! How do you know how deep to go with the tool without scoring into the plaster?
Thanks for a great video! Is there a good sealant that will preserve the grout (to avoid needing to do this again!) How often would you apply and what's also the best way to clean grout (again to maintain.). Thank you!!!!
My shower grout is mostly in good condition but the installer also grouted (rather than caulked) the corners. Can I use this tool to just remove the corner grout? Also, does this tool cut through whatever waterproofing is behind the tiles?
Thanks for the video I was looking for a way to remove the grout I was using Foreign Chan grandeur with a car bite bit on it the dust was just amazing it went everywhere set off my fire alarms I think I'll look for one of those multi toois multi tool try it that way thanks a lot
In a shower, seems like this could damage the waterproofing membrane on the cement board underneath if you go too deep. I'll be using this method on my kitchen backsplash though!
That one tool costs double the multi tool including attachments, great looking tool but unless you are a legit tiler thats not worth it for the average DIY'er
This was good. I don’t have that tool but it’s a small area I need to do, so I can use a Stanley knife. I was going to use filler from a tube, like a waterproof mastic type one. I find them really messy though. So I think I might try regular grout like in the video better. Thank you Bill
What kind of blade are you using? It looks like a carbide blade. I'm using a carbide blade and it only lasts for about 6 tiles. At $14.00 a blade, that gets very expensive.
You are officially my DIY hero LOL. I would never have thought to use the multi-tool. I've been procrastinating over this job for 2 years, dreading the thought of scraping the old grout. Thank you.
👍
Now if you wouldn't mind coming to mine next. I have tiled many places over the years and I have always struggled with the grouting. now I know why. Thank you for sharing.
You saved me a lot. Cancelled my $300 contractor (he had bad reviews too) and did it myself using your advise and came beautiful. Thx V.
M.
$300!! My quote was $1000!
Good video mate, but next time emphasis on not getting the blade to far into the back of the grout so you dont risk damaging any waterproofing would be another useful tip. I thought the same thing. Didn't need to go nearly that deep.
my thoughts exactly
Didnt know that... hopefully i havent damaged the WP

The calls for a sequel to Shawshank Redemption, lolll
The multi-tool is hands down one of the best tools to own. So damn useful for home projects.
First video I've watched and you had me sold when I saw a ryobi tool! Off to Bunnings tomorrow. Thanks for the video.
Good video, in addition cover the floor with a suitable cloth to minimise clean-up, once grout is applied wait at least 10-15 minutes for initial set, then clean off excess grout in a diagonal motion with well wrung sponge and rinse often in your bucket of water, when dry polish off haze...
Nice job !! Just about to start doing mine now and I now have a lot more confidence after watching your tricks and tips. Great job 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
How did it turn out? Did you end up hiring someone?
Looks great! Once the grout has dried i also use a grout sealer to waterproof wet areas like showers, reason being the grout remains porous. @Dawn Johnson try this dawn www.bunnings.com.au/spray-seal-300g-grout-and-tile-sealer_p6650152
That's the step I have a question on... sealing
Just followed the procedure and the result is amazing, really happy with the result, thank you so much, really great tutorial
Brought a multi tool for this job and have used dozens of times since doing the regrouging, I can’t imagine how I have got on before.
Glad I could help 👍
Thanks a lot Bill! There was no BS yammering about.....you got me zeroed in soooo quickly and efficiently! I'm smiling.
Now I am really convinced YT is reading my thoughts. I need to remove grouts from some floortiles and have been thinking of how to do it. Just thinking.....have not googled anything yet. And this vid pops up in my feed😁Good vid btw as I have a multitool with a new set.
dude you are a fecking life saver . Spent two whole days trying to get out all of the old grout out .
Great video!
Very well explained. Yet another reason to have a multi tool. Don't know how we got along without one before.
lovely clear instructions, really gives me confidence that I could do this. Gonna give it a go this weekend!
Multi tool is the best, excellent investment...get the cordless...makes doing stuff around the house a dream.
I have some grout on the floor tiles I laid. So wish I went with dark grey and not beige.
I tried dye but didn't work as it removed most of it trying to clean it. Definitely going to do this job as have both floor and wall tiles to redo. So thankful for this. Now to buy a multi tool
Thanx a lot. Your demonstration is super easy to follow by a beginner
Thank you, this has really given me confidence to do this myself! 🙏🏽
Thanks for this! Just did my first grout replacement job after watching :)
Hi, thanks for the great video. I see that you recommend not cutting too deep if the old grout is still good. That means the new layer of grout is a bit thin. Is there a recommended minimum depth for the new grout layer to be strong enough? Cheers!
Thank you so much for your video Bill. You have saved me so much money with this video. Thank you.
Useful to have a link to products used. Great video
Watched this to do it tomorrow. Great video dude. I feel like a pro already
You are great! Your explanations are clear and your work looks very nice. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for making this video. Thank you for the tips. If I don't seal the grout, does it mean that wall isn't water proof?
Waterproofing is under the tiles 👍
Great video and method to clean the grout lines. I learned something new about using the multi-tool. Question: any types of grout or tile in which you would NOT use the multi-tool due to its aggressive abrasion which might damage the work? Thanks.
About to do some cleanup at a holiday house tomorrow. Thanks for your information. Good quality video.
Keep em going and you'll become a legend. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Glad you are enjoying the content
It’s all in the wrist action! Great video and tips - thx for sharing!
Good video -- dentisty for your tiled walls! That CFL? lightbulb is playing havoc with your video refresh rate.
Thank you for the vid. I'm useless at DIY but found this very helpful. Will be buying a multi tool tomorrow. Cheers

It will take many extra blades and a helluva lot longer than two seconds to remove all the old grout. But yeah, you’ll get a better job.
even in the corners???
Thank you very much for showing this step by step. Much appreciated
Excellent video that showed every aspect of doing a tile grout job. Thank you for showing the tools, techniques, and tricks. Nice job!!
Will give this a go based on your excellent video tutorial. I have seen ready made tile grout. Is either better for this job. Many thanks
Great video, I’m going to remove some awful grout and replace it with the techniques you just shown me. Thanks 😊
Nice one, just been asked to do this very job, not one I have done before, but I have more and more people wanting to use my do-it-yourself skills. So ta muchly.
Thanks for sharing Bill and making difficult job easy 😀 well done and keep up the good work, from London
Excellent! Great instructional video and right to the important points.
May I ask - To remove grout do I need a carbide or diamond tipped blade?
Perfect timing and answered a very pertinent question for me.
Very novice. First tile job in shower. Panicked when haze wouldn’t come off. Thought I’d scratched tiles. Used 50/50 vinegar water and massively pleased to clean the haze. Perhaps over exuberant cleaning started to pit new grout (post 48hr dry)

U made it look so easy!!
WOW AMAZING VIDEO VERY EDUCATIONAL

game changer to use multitool. Thanks mate!
Mate. What a brilliant video thanks a lot
You’re welcome 👍
Never would have thought of using one of these tools, almost set to work using a hand tool then I saw this video! How do you know how deep to go with the tool without scoring into the plaster?
Brilliant nearly 1,000,000 views congratulations
Thanks for this wonderful tutorial
Awesome explanations. Well done mate
Thanks for the tips, doing a glitter grout project and this has helped, feel more confident doing the task 👍 oooh sparkles 🤣
Thanks for a great video! Is there a good sealant that will preserve the grout (to avoid needing to do this again!) How often would you apply and what's also the best way to clean grout (again to maintain.). Thank you!!!!
Thks for this video.do you need yo seal the grout?
Thanks Bill, great advice and it's going to save me time removing shower grout, thanks buddy
👍
Awesome job! Thanks I learnt something!!!
Hi, thanks for the video. Is it easy to. Avoid cutting into the tile accidentally. Im a little worried I may cut into the tile itself
Hi Bill, thanks for the instructional video, one question, how many cutting blades did you use to complete the whole shower?
thanks, Nicole
You are AWESOME, Bill!
Great video…how do you avoid affecting the water proofing?
I've had to do this on a floor and I still have nightmares over it! Great video. Thanks!
Multi tool makes it very easy. 👍
@@billshowto It sure does. The last one I did was pre-multi tool days. I used a dremel and carbide grout bits and it was a nightmare
I enjoyed your instructional video. Can you tell me will this method work on glass tile mosaic on the floor? Thanks in advance.
My shower grout is mostly in good condition but the installer also grouted (rather than caulked) the corners. Can I use this tool to just remove the corner grout? Also, does this tool cut through whatever waterproofing is behind the tiles?

Mint job, bro. To those not needing to record audio for YT - please wear a face mask.
I wear a mask for this and pooping. That's it
Good onya Bill, very helpful, first timer at attempting this, Ryobi from Bunnings tomorrow, greetings from Sydney mate.
Good video is there sealer already in grout or do you appreciate apply later
Nice work Bill, that Ryobi multi tool is Handy as heck
Very nicely done Bill. Thanks for sharing your talent and videos, Rodney
You’re welcome 👍
In a shower, seems like this could damage the waterproofing membrane on the cement board underneath if you go too deep. I'll be using this method on my kitchen backsplash though!
G'day Bill, great job mate. Have a look at the Rubi Scraper.
Little or no dust, quick and easy oprion
That one tool costs double the multi tool including attachments, great looking tool but unless you are a legit tiler thats not worth it for the average DIY'er
Great video! Just curious about the caulk/sealant that’s already there at the bottom tiles. Did you need to re-seal them or did you work around it?
Just wanted to say, the vacuum part was satisfying haha
Thanks Bill easy once you have been shown how to do the job.
This was good. I don’t have that tool but it’s a small area I need to do, so I can use a Stanley knife. I was going to use filler from a tube, like a waterproof mastic type one. I find them really messy though. So I think I might try regular grout like in the video better. Thank you Bill
Very helpful..... Thank you 👍👍👍👍

Hi Bill thanks for this video. Do you recommend adding a mould inhibitor to the new grout mix?
Thank you, really enjoyed the tips. Job well done. Can't wait to get started on my kitchen tiles. Cheers
Good stuff, going to grab one of those multi tool to do just this.
Awesome video mate very informative. Merry Christmas to you
Thanks Bill... how do you apply grout to ribbed tiles..., Rich
Great explanation. It's just what I am planning to do with our bathroom. Thanks!!
👍
Great video sir. I’m bookmarking this in my how to
wow thanks, very informational. going to try now mine shower.
Outstanding video. Thank you for the wisdom.
👍
Do have to be careful not to go too deep as could lose the waterproof sealant behind the tiles ?
Great Stuff, wish you had have shown how to get into the corners with the Multi tool.
Excellent video!
Thanks. Very informative.
How do you ensure you don't compromise any waterproof membrane/red guard?
Your video has been a great help, thanks!
Good man. Top job. Thanks for helping me gain wisdom.
great vid, thanks fella - explain real good :)
Well done champ on a good video. You speak quickly but clearly and you're easy to follow.
Liked and subbed brother. Keep it up!
when removing grout with the oscillating tool, will it not damage the wall/dry wall behind the grout?
