    I don't know anything about the Z6III but on my Z9, I've assigned everything I use regularly to buttons and rings on the lens itself where my left hand typically is. I'm guessing it will have the same capability to assign functions as needed in the Custom Shooting menu.

    • @KungPowEnterFist
      @KungPowEnterFist 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      This example with the PSAM dial he is hogwash. On Nikon Z8/Z8 and it looks like also the Z6III you can program shooting mode (PSAM) or shooting bank (the actual video modes, 6k60p, 4k120p, etc.) to most buttons+dial combinations. Meaning, you hold down a button and then scroll through with the aperture or shutter speed dial to cycle through each option, and release to set it. Much better than having to lift your hand off the grip and fumble around with the PSAM dial regardless of what side it is on. This is the typical Sony mindset on display. They transpose problems that only exist on Sony camera's to other manufacturers, and then when Sony fixes their Sony only problem its a come to Jesus moment for them and everyone else should do this fix.

      Can you assign min SS in Auto ISO to a button so I no longer need to dive into the menu? On every of my Sony and Fuji cameras I just press a button and all shutter speeds are shown right away. But on my Nikon cameras, I have to go through several levels of menus.

    • @highsidephoto
      @highsidephoto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@USGrant21st I can't speak for all Nikons but, ever since the D5, and later the D6, and of course the Z8 and Z9, you can assign "Recall Shooting Function" to a function button to instantly change a variety of settings including iso and turning auto iso on and off. I use this when panning, for example, if a bike goes down and I want to capture the crash sharply, I hit the topmost of 3 function buttons on the Z9 and my shutter speed goes from whatever slow speed I'm on to 1/1000 and aperture changes to f/13. Auto iso remains on so that adjusts automatically. I also change the focus mode to auto with vehicle detection since crashes tend to be chaotic. Works perfectly. I would imagine the Z6III, drawing from the Z8 and Z9, will have this feature as well.

I won't trade in my Z f on the Z 6 III, I actually prefer the old school ergonomics, as I still shoot film with an F3, and FM2N, and an FM3A. The Z 6 III makes a mockery of the A7S4 and the S5II - in every way - and sad to say, makes ur beloved A7SIII look even more tired and worn-out :) I get that u prefer the A7SIII for your use case, but how long are u going to remain slavishly devoted to that camera body and Sony's absolutely awful telephoto lens selections for wildlife and BIF? Remember the old adage - "Date the camera, marry the lens." Keep up the good work; always entertaining content...

    YEP 100%! Just place a mode BUTTON on the right! I was at least hoping for the "clover" setup with a mode button, but then Nikon would have had banks instead of user modes. With a button, you COULD potentially FULLY customize it with only the modes you need. Or you could have unlimited user modes. I only need 4, but I need them to save more settings than they do. The lens button mapping is limited. Not every feature is available on them. On the Z8 I couldn't even set F1 directly to spot metering like I can on most other Nikon's, including most of the other Z's. Thom Hogan did an article on firmware recently, pointing out how there's no coordination or consistency between these teams.
    I never use the top LCD, but some like it, just put it on the left side of the hump. Hopefully it has a FEW (or one) recall settings you can access without the dial; which the ZF should add as well.

    The best part of the Sony design is that the left side is free to mount accessories. On the A7III I had a Smallrig coldshoe extender I used to mount my mic on the side, so I was free to use the briefcase mode on my gimble. Then I switched to the A7IV, and even tho the extender didn't fit the camera, the left side was still free, so I just used a 3am doublesided tape, to stick a penny-worth cold shoe to the body, and I was good to go again. This also opens up possibilities to use on camera flash/trigger, and a go pro at the same time to record BTS for photography. On my Fuji X-H2s (still the best bang for the buck hybrid video camera IMO if you don't need a fancy AF tracking since it is kind of bad) I am forced to use a bulky L bracket, with coldshoe attachment for that same functionality, and since no good brand produces L brackets right now (small rig discontinued it) the fit is terrible, and the weight it adds is enourmous. On top of that it limits the LCD movement, so I got the anglegrinder out and cut the s**t out of it, to free up the screen and reduce the weight LOL. Funny how I used plenty of sony camers (A7 II, III, IV, A6300, A6600) professionaly for number of years, and the only freaking thing I miss from them is the bloody free spot on the top left of their bodies FFS!

If only they didn't shackle themselves to m4/3 15 years ago, we could've had a full-frame camera with LiveND, in-camera macro stacking, all customisable buttons, super cool live composite modes that work in handheld because the stabe is lightyears ahead of everyone and an actual IP-rating that only Leica matches or improves on. It's fucking INSANE that nobody except Panasonic is even trying to offer these things in their cameras to this day. It just keeps getting even more sad and pathetic for Sony. They released a pro FF body nobody wants or can afford (A9III) and a pro 300 f2.8 nobody wants or can afford (E 300 f2.8GM). Meanwhile its just hit after hit with Nikon, especially for the wildlife/sports action crowd. You have four wonderful PF lenes (300, 500, 600, 800), five phenomenal FL lenses (180-400, 400, 500, 600, 800), the very best pro lenses (400 f2.8 TC and 600 f4 TC), the best 100-400 semi-pro zoom, the best ~180-600 budget zoom, and the incredibly cheap and still viable 200-500 f5.6 for the entry level. Oh, and throw in the 28-400 just to sprinkle that last little pinch of salt right in the Sony users eyeball. Best FF pro flagship, best FF semi-pro flagship, and now the best FF mid-range. Unless Sony releases 8-10 great 300mm+ lenses along with a new FF semi-pro and FF mid-range this year, Nikon's lead will be insurmountable.

He can't possibly be the only user who has his preferences?

    Here is whats hilarious to me Kasey, the Nikon Z6 III, has worse dynamic range in BOTH video AND photo than the Panasonic G9M2 and GH7, now. Lets take a moment and realise, WHAT IN THE F"&/#????
    How the livid cup did Nikon achieve worse dynamic range than a micro four thirds sensor? LOL! Its too funny for me, we are literally going backwards in features, 4k120p WITH A CROP? LOL
    Again its just ridicules, the IBIS is basically the same from Z f which means its basically Fuji level, unusable.
    Nikon Z6 III for 2500 dollars, is it better than S5M2? Yes and no, better slow mo video, WAY WORSE dynamic range, unusable IBIS in video, it does shoot internal RAW, but the latest Pannies also shoot RAW to a SSD which imao makes more sense cause a 4TB SSD is a lot cheaper than a 1TB Express Card which you definitely need those RAW files are monstrous.
    I also like they made it a hybrid yet includes that silly tiny little screen on top of the camera for some reasons, I mean no one ever thought about just moving that tiny little screen to the left side I mean we do not need that screen even in photography its literally just look down to the mainscreen and "oh wow my shutter speed is 1/200 oh my ISO is 320?" but no, Nikon adding a tiny little screen so that those perverts can keep taking pictures in mens baths with the camera at their waist without looking suspicious.
    Its just all a big joke to me, the industry is a joke, I been in this for way too long like over a decade and I basically used MFT cameras for all the jobs as long as I just add a grip to them and use the big lenses, the customers do not care they cannot tell the difference, "Oh your camera is so large, you must be a real pro" thats basically their reaction, full frame is so nice but A7s3 was the only one that appealed to me because I have greater hatred for jello effect then I do for Canon cripple hammer.

You cannot go wrong, all brands have their pros and cons. I think that increasingly as all cameras get that bit better each generation there is no feature that would make me even consider jumping ship to another brand. Unless your channel is devoted to whining { about everyone 😀 } there are no shortage of cameras more than capable of doing talking head type videos . I find it a touch comical when you see some of the crazy set ups some YT channels have to post typically 4k videos with poor bit-rates and compression applied by YT

    I'm all for having as many dials and physical buttons as possible, but any dials on the left side of the body should be strictly "extra", redundant, or 100% customizable. Whatever function they control should either be able to be controlled by another button/dial on the right side of the camera, or be a function that would otherwise not have any physical dial/button at all. No mission-critical or frequently used functions should be placed over there, especially if that is going to be the only way to control that function.
